Igbo's do need need Ngige to be a senate President. Anambra people would rather have Ekwunife in the senate minority than a senate President Ngige. Ekwunife is the future of anambra politics, a woman of real substance, a future first female elected governor and a future first female President of the senate. Mark my words, that woman will surprise you.

My brother get your facts right. which south are you talking about that love jonathan. The south dont love jonathan. They just hate buhari and i am referring to my south east brothers. They are voting for jonathan cos they hate buhari. i am from the south south and i am for buhari. To be sincere he failed and time has come when we should not let sentiments becloud our sense of reasoning
i agree with you that the north participate more in elections than the south. they collected more PVC than us

You may be right. And I am not a man of tribal sentiments. The actual inspiration behind this thread was simply that I have many southern social media friends that did not vote but are crying today that their preferred candidate 'Jonathan' seems to be losing. The point is, if you wanted him to win then why didn't you do your duty to help him win? Why cry later?

guy, voting is optional and not compulsory, why force people to come out and vote if they don't want to...??

No one forces anybody. But if we are too be truly a full democratic nation then the people should understand that there is power n the ballot. There's no fight or quarrel here. We just need to educate ourselves about civic responsibilities and building a democracy where the majority decides instead of sitting their asses at home then whining when things don't go their ways.

This sounds like a very honest opinion. SO much more honest than those who try to paint a decent picture of a false situation. Actually, the problem in the south was, many didnt want Buhari, and they wouldnt bother themselves voting for Jonathan. You need to understand the dynamics of the southern man. He would deny you if you let him down, thats a fundamental difference between the south and the north. People are angry with Jonathan in the south, and to be frank, if not that the Jonathan handlers did an aggressive marketing in the south using religious branding and tarnishing Buhari's image, Jonathan would have suffered defeat even in his former strongholds.

I have a close friend who honestly believed Buhari was an insurgent, but he didnt vote because he said Jonathan failed woefully, thats the situation

Very true. But then this is where the northerner becomes wiser than the southerner. The northener would choose what he sees as the lesser of two evils. The southerner would simply shrug and not care. In the end he starts wailing when the choice is made for him and he doesn't like it.

@poster......i dont know for south east and south south but we in the south west did not fail anybody, we came out and we voted for CHANGE.

Got it....

No you did not come out. Compare the number of voters that actually voted to the number of registered voters then you'll get the point. If 500K people out of 1.5 million potential voters only came out to vote that is still poor. We should have a democracy where voter turn out is not less than 70 percent per state.

Who told you they would have voted for Jona if they came out to vote?

Jona lost in my SW states except in Ekiti - laughinggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

The point in that is that Jonathan got so many online southern votes while Buhari got so many actual northern votes. I don't talk much about south west because even though Jonathan lost there, the margin was not so much.

All i can say is "Repent from your polarized ethnic and religious mind". Its not about region or religion, its about doing your job as president. When you fail to do it, you will be voted out and disgraced out of office. Southerners lost their opportunity because they decided to field a failed president for re-election. This same president surrounds himself with the most greedy, unscrupulous elements, he was warned, he made a choice, and this is the result.

While my post may sound polarized it is actually not so. This post was based on what is actually happening. You see while many would say that Jonathan failed the south, the truth is that the south still loves Jonathan. Cos he is a southerner so he is a brother. Even if Jonathan was the worst president the south would still love him.

The main issue here is there numbers. And this has nothing to do with Jonathan and Buhari. Southerners traditionally don't care about the electoral process. They just can't be bothered to go stand for hours in polling booths. It happens even in the governorship elections.

The difference is that northerners would vote no matter what. Southerners voted massively for Jonathan even with his shortcomings. But the problem is the numbers. More than two third registered voters just wouldn't go vote because they don't care. If they had gone out and voted for Buhari I wouldn't be here writing this. But my point is that they just are not interested in their political future.

While the so called 'illiterate and backward' northerners defied all odds including threat of boko haram to go out enmasse and vote... The so called 'learned and more advanced' southerners quietly sat in their homes and voted on social media. My BBM and WhatsApp and facebook were awash with 'Vote GEJ', GEJWinsIt and so many campaigns. But when I asked lots of contacts none actually voted. They all had excuses why they couldn't vote yet they believed that GEJ will miraculously upturn the expected northern votes Buhari was sure to gather.

Here's a lesson southerners need to learn. Elections are not conducted on social media. Not on Facebook. Not on nairaland. You actually need to drag your ass over to a polling booth and vote like all the rest.

Southerners treat elections with so much disdain and disinterest. And that's a disaster cos in the end they are the ones who cry hardest about injustice. Yet they just won't take their destiny in their hands.

Nobody is bigger than voting. If presidents and governors go out to vote then who are you to sit at home and not go?

Let no southerner come here and complain of injustice when the final result is announced. whoever wins is the choice of the people. You could have made a difference by coming out and casting your vote. Instead you chose to leave your future in the hands of people you consider illiterate and backward.

Meanwhile I have authoritative confirmation from INEC that social media voting will be included in the 2019 election. Until then, it seems congratulations to Pa Buhari are in order.

How the mighty falls.

Ngige chose to dwell in past glory. He thought his earlier popularity would swing votes for him. Unfortunately he lost relevance the day he became an APC member. Nothing wrong with APC but it's still a party treated with skepticism by the South East.

Ngige should quietly retire from active politics Cos I doubt he will ever win an election again.

While the rule of law should be always adhered to, I think Jonathan should invoke presidential powers and doubt that court order. Face it, without soldiers at our polling booths there will be chaos and loss of many lives especially in the north.
Culture / Re: 10th Century Great Wall Of Kano And Associated Structures by ugojamali(m): 5:51pm On Mar 20, 2015
Impressive. Colourful. It shows that civilization has been in Africa long before the whites came.

I remember my visit to Kano as a child. Those dye pits... The ancient wall, the horse riding events; those days tourists crowded Kano, it was a city of pride. I also remember passing through Kaduna. Such beauty. Such glory. Northern Nigeria was and could have been much more. Now we weep.

We southerners try our best to avoid the north. A foreigner would be warned by his country not to go anywhere near northern Nigeria. Even indigenes seek peace and greener pastures away from the region. All because a set of misguided fanatics decided to misinterpret the teachings of the prophet.

I wish to God that these Islamists will be defeated so that Kano and the other northern cities would reclaim their pride.

My last piece on this thread. There is nothing wrong with building that piece of contraption. There is everything wrong with celebrating it publicly and calling the guy a genius.

For the ignorant, this is not an engineering work. It is a mechanical work that any illiterate apprentice mechanic can conjure. It also doesn't belong in the 21st century. If seen, road safety and police should arrest the car and charge the owner to court for publicly disgracing 9ja. It only belongs to the owner's backyard for his private entertainment.

That said, I'd encourage the owner to continue with the good work. He will go places if he dreams bigger than this. But I will frown on the OP and any other person celebrating this Cos they don't belong to this century. This is not where 9ja should be. And anybody that tries to drag 9ja back should be ridiculed.

And for the guy who said the maker would get a job faster than an engineer I laugh at your ignorance. If you had attended school, you'd know that this is not anywhere near engineering. An engineer is a designer of complex systems, not a welder of scrap metals and Barrow wheels.

Next some asshat is going to ask us to post what we've done ourselves.

I tell you. These things have been done and left behind in the early 20th Century. Why anyone in this country will celebrate this in the 21st century means that we are still too far away from civilization.

Seriously students of foreign universities will laugh at uniben students for showcasing such. While these kids need to be encouraged they should also try to perfect their craft before rushing to showcase their non achievement to the world. This consists of welded scrap metals and bicycle tyres. Wonder what engine it runs on. Probably okada engine. The work above can be done by any combination of apprentice mechanics, panel beaters and electricians.

Instead our universities should be encouraged and funded to design better things. They should move forward and not drag us back to the era of carriages.

Politics / Are Muslim Nations Responsible For The Rise Of Terrorism Against Them by ugojamali(m): 1:32pm On Feb 04, 2015
Few days back President Obama, on national TV, declared that he would not consider the war against ISIS and Boko Haram as a religious war because they not only targeted other religions but also have turned on their fellow muslims. One begins to ask, how did the terrorists deviate from their original mandate of attacking only the so called infidels?

Today no one is safe. Christians and muslims alike have all suffered at the hands of muslim terrorists. That's in contrast with what happened a few years back. In 2010, a muslim could safely walk the streets of maiduguri rest assured that he was safe and free. But today muslims look over their shoulders when they walk the streets in fear. In sept 2001, a good part of the muslim world rejoiced gleefully as American buildings lay in ruins and rescuers struggled to pull out dead bodies. But in contrast today, many muslim nations are quick to seek alliance with USA and leading nations to help them fight off their muslim brothers. few years back, notable Nigerian leaders condemned the handling of The Army's bombardment of Boko Haram and insinuated genocide. Today with one voice they all cry that the government isnt doing enough to defeat the jihadists. A few years back many muslim governments openly allied themselves and supported terrorists but today no Islamic nation wants to associate with terror groups.

How the muslim nation has changed. And why? Because today, the terrorist has landed at their doorsteps. The same group they once sympathized with, cheered on and financially supported, have turned against them. Now it is no more the Christian affair. what is even ironic is that these so called followers of Mohammed no more attack Christians as they used to. It seems that their new aim now is to wipe out, subjugate and terrorize their own brothers! They kill, maim their brothers, kidnap and rape their sisters, slaughter their own sons. Madness! Insanity!

This morning the world woke up shocked at the barbaric slaughter of a Jordinian pilot. Jordan is a muslim nation. It is obvious. The tide has turned. The people that peaceful nations silently supported for years, turning their blind eyes on the murder of christians, have come to kill them too. The muslim terrorist has become a terror to the muslim.

As the entire world unites in the fight to defeat the jihadists; as Chad, Niger and a half muslim Nigeria unite to defeat Boko Haram insurgents, muslims (Who i still believe are majorly peaceful people despite the occasional bouts of violence) should soberly reflect on their past and wonder why they ever supported these criminals that have permanently destroyed the image of Islam and The Prophet Mohammed SAW.
