But this cheapness is it in price or in value?
Sometimes I wonder how we Nigerians reason... we are already on queues fighting and quarreling to buy petrol at 300, yet we resist to allow it officially!

Well I trust Nigerian politicians, they will soon tell us that our petrol cargo shipments were attacked by russian forces, and the ensuring scarcity will force the price to 500/litre. It's a game a perching birds and aiming hunters!

It is a difficult thing arguing for subsidy removal here on this site.

Most Nairalanders support it unreservedly. Even when they get what you say...the fact is, cheap fuel is what they want.

Did you go to school at all ? You think capitalism is only way to run a country ? If you don't subsidize then you actually handing your citizens to corporation for milking . A growing economy need industries and subsidies if not you run your country to become an imperial state ...very rich few and very poor many
Subsidy is not the issue ...
What should govt do ?
1. Priotise projects
2.cut down coat of governance
3. Make use of available resources to build industries
4. Encourage export by providing conducive environment for business
5. Encourage FDI by lower tax
We can go on and on ....
What we do currently is revenue draining And is the cause of revenue loss..where Government sell crude and import refined fuels .it's absolute madness .it is a recipe for disaster in any angle
I was hoping Buhari by 2015 wil prioritise building mid size refineries to solve and abolish our dependence on importation of refined crude . This will also create wealth , earn government foreign exchange and reduce pressure on the Naira . Now we are waiting for Dangote which in a sense is wrong as you are ultimately placing your citizens welfare in hands of one man. we should have as many refineries as possible . That way there is competition that can lower prices
Instead of borrowing money to bud rails , it should have been used to build refineries...
Rail is not an immediate need

Your roof is leaking...but what troubles you the most is building a factory for the manufacturing of aluminium roofing sheets? Why not stop the leakage first! Before being ambitious of building nuclear reactors and modular refineries. Nigeria is losing trillions annually to this subsidy scam!! These guys are not even subsidising anything! they subsidise a few million barrels, doctor and inflate the figures to hundreds of millions of barrels and get paid with taxpayers money.

Today a litre of petrol is 250, even 300 in some sections of the country... what was the proposed price of a litre of petrol if subsidy were to be removed?? Was it not 300? yet you are not seeing the broad day light robbery of your treasury. You are already buying at the 300 you are resisting and they are still paying the subsidy! pack of schooled idiots...a legion of educated fools

Jonathan paid subsidy too. What happened then? The minister of petroleum in the person of Diezani madueke looted 90 billion dollars plus other assets in her possession despite the $100 dollar price in crude oil.
Subsidy has nothing to do with this, these mumu African leaders are born criminals.

Am not in support of subsidy payments, am for a complete end to petrol subsidies in Nigeria

Subsidy is not Nigeria's problem. Corruption is the problem. They tell u Nigeria does not have money but politicians, contractors, friends, etc have been steadily stealing money since 1970. Imagine wat all the billions of dollars stolen can do in Nigeria

Yes, corruption is our problem but subsidies are a convenient cover and a legitimate system that helps cooperate thieves to strive and blossom. without this subsidy system, nobody will be able to effortlessly steal trillions from our treasury.

Politics / Re: Subsidy May Jump By 100% As FG’s Benchmark Oil Price Doubles by ugonology(m): 8:49am On Mar 06, 2022
This is what you get when you try to run a country like a poultry farm, Where government provides subsidies on everything from petrol, education, agriculture to power generation and distribution to health care.

Subsidy is the reason why ASUU will always go on strike (students can't be paying 80$ per section and you expect government to handle the rest) socialist government structures like subsidies will always spell doom for any growing economy, look at Syria and Venezuela. 90% of Nigeria's problem is tied to the senseless spendings on 'hypocritical' subsidies that eventually get looted by the high and mighty.
Until we tell ourselves the truth, we will continue to suffer needlessly.

Open a binance account... Start buying BTC, DOT or ADA with the money every month now that the market is crashing... By 2024 when the next bull run comes with the BTC halving event, the value of your money will go up...

Or use the money to buy original gold every month and store it safely till when you need it.

If you save your money in any bank, inflation will eat it away and you'll be surprised at how much the real value of your naira will be by the time you need it.

With Nigeria preparing to elect another old useless leader and the US preparing to actively defend the dollar by raising interest rate, the future doesn't look good for the country and the currency.

Cheers
DOT and ADA might fade away before the next bull run... buy bitcoin

This is what you get when you spend 70% of your revenue servicing needless debts

This is what happens when you plan and sign a padded budget based on unrealistic oil price expectations,

This is how far we get, when even the president does not care about his country...

Nigeria will continue to borrow, tax and devalue the naira, because a thief never gets enough.

Politics / Re: Zainab Ahmed: We Can't Continue, Nigeria Losing N250bn Monthly On Fuel Subsidy by ugonology(m): 9:42am On Nov 25, 2021
It's really interesting to read the intelligent views of fellow Nigerians, but the truth remains that Nigeria has always been structured to fail.
Nigeria extracts about 1.4 million barrels of crude oil daily but refines less than 10,000 barrels, and with the ongoing maintenance in warri and portharcourt maybe nothing! as Kaduna refinary is a dumpsite.
These economic blow-outs and internal financial Knots would have been foreseen and predicted even by an intelligent ss1 student of economics. My questions so far is as follows:

1) How fuel consumption jumped from 23millon litres in 2017 to over 90million litres in 2021?

2) is price equalisation part of the subsidy removal in discuss? Or they are only removing the cost of importing the refined products from abroad (Price equalisation is what makes the pump price of a litre of fuel the same in portharcourt, Maiduguri and every part of Nigeria.

3) is this current unsubsidisation process absolute and final? or is it a partial relief to unburden the government( as @backbencher posited) of the ever increasing cost of importing refined petroleum.

4) will the government now through the instrumentality of the NNPC completely hands off by completely deregulating both the up and downstream sectors and allowing the petroleum industry to operate as a free market and NNPC plays only regulatory roles?

I was in this very situation some 3 years ago, and I must tell you that I regret not going to Germany when I got admitted into trier university of applied sciences on an almost free tuition fee basis...I rather opted for a state distributorship right for a popular premium FMC'S product. This sounded like a good idea until time and experience showed me in 3D how hopeless Nigeria as a whole has become, how vile, evil, corrupt, cruel, crude and wicked the average Nigerian is!
It's easy to look at some successful Nigerian business men and feel '' if they can do it'' I too can, my brother...most of these guys are living on their toes, they are most of the time hopelessly in debt, some are deeply envied and silently hated by those they call family and friends, most have become spiritual slaves to prophets and mallams, running around and fighting countless spiritual battles. Brother, that money will likely be worthless in 3 years time, within that time you would most likely be hooked or trapped with love(marriage) or a dead-end sinking business, don't be a patriotic fool, Nigeria is finished. you will be forever grateful if you heed to my words.
leave this country. Don't be like me!!!
