kayjay69: And you are somewhat of an authority on this topic how?
You see this is the main problem with us Nigerians, here you are dragging to drag me into the mud which you have decided to make your dwelling.
You use the word "most" yet you have no statistic whatsoever to backup your horrid claim. You just throw around your stupidity disguised as a hasty generalisation.
I already cautioned the first guy but then again you willing choose to abandon the lesson I was trying so desperately to pass across to him, you abandon the meat of the matter and focus on something else, something clearly leads to nowhere. I do hate to say this but you and your ilk are what is wrong with Nigeria and if you so choose to be offended by my comments, then my work here is done. two questions I will ask you... one how old are you? I'm asking you this to know whether you were old enough between say 2003 and 2008 plus to remember how the news of corporate fraud was leaking out... 90% of those nabbed were Yoruba that is an observation that we all know for those who were attentive then from the guy who was doing creative accounting to the other guy who declared non existent inventory and the list goes on It's an observation that makes many believe that indeed MAYBE there is something about Yoruba people that pushes them into these clique thing and fraud, which in reality is NOT SO. it is based on that observation that the guy you quoted made his statement. his observation is 100 % true.. It's like when one is caught in South east Asia with dtugs, most of them caught are igbo, that is an observation Or when a terrorist attack strikes, most of them are Muslim fundamentalists. I don't know why you are pained about that, it is a fact we all know even Elemosho478 knows this So refusing to believe that is self deceit in your part. Dey dia dey talk mud and stupidity the truth cannot be changed, and the truth is that MOST people implicated in corporate fraud and abuse in Nigeria are YORUBAS |

kayjay69: Sure you are not igbo but you are a mad "insert here whatever you are" man. Four director names were mentioned, one happens to be Yoruba, your fish brain interprets and shoots out whatever junk you managed type below. When does one equal four? And what does it even matter where they are from, is the main story about their tribe or about the actions they were found to be complicit in? Well, I guess it does'nt matter to binary thinkers such as you. What you live for is to spew bile, it is unfortunate Nairaland does not screen off people like you. I'll say it as it is MOST of the corporate fraud in this country has been linked to Yoruba names MOST does that mean Yoruba folks are natural killets of companies? of course not! But most of those who were caught just happen to be Yoruba and it was their choices that made them commit fraud.... Not because of something aboyt Yoruba that makes companies they lead fail... it's all abt personal choices But then Thinking that Yoruba folks are corporate killwrs is as stupid as people thinking that igbo are natural criminals this is a fact that many Nigerians have not developed enough brain power to decipher. MOST of those caught selling drugs in SEA are Igbo names BUT they chose that path. it's not abt their ethnicity When we as Nigerians get to the level of mental maturity that it is people's choices that determine whom they are are not ethnicity or religion or whatever, the better for us. The guy you quoted observed right, but he is WRONG |

The thing I find more disturbing are the women who fall in love with killers. This is someone who murdered women & didn't stop there- he had sex with their rotting bodies & kept some of their heads!!!!! But I guess the fact that they're either going to die or will never set foot outside again, makes things more...romantic
Bundy has so many worshippers, both men & women, as a result, authorities never disclosed the place where they scattered his ashes in fear that it'll be turned into some type of a shrine for his fans! Mind you, people are so obsessed with killers to the point where they even steal their gravestones after they die. They did that to Ed Gein, stole his entire tombstone after many years of chipping pieces off of it as souvenirs. Now his grave is unmarked, but I bet people still hold a vigil every now & then. wow it's a strange world |

liberalchick: Sorry Nigerian guys brought this on themselves, what we are witnessing is a symptom of the excessive materialism in our culture. In the 90s and early 00s, girls were happy to receive mix tapes, handmade cards or a wooden frame with an insert of your portrait as gifts. Then internet came, ‘yahoo yahoo’ came and the game changed.
Nigerians always have some need to show off their wealth or believe the success of a man can only be measured by his wealth. Nigerians will rather worship money THAN intellect. Nigerian society only respect people with money. Who better to show off this new wealth to than girls? As time went on Nigerian men started throwing money at girls to prove they were the best suitor for her affections. The more need to show off the higher the financial expectations became.
Black Americans girls chase Nigerian dudes even though they say they’re sexist because, Nigerian guys have a reputation of out SPENDING men of other race/culture.
For example, ‘The act of proposing’, before girls were ok getting engaged without a ring. Then, boys started buying rings and the rings became more expensive. Now one dude upped the ante and started the whole ‘public proposal with a car’ now it’s almost a norm in our culture to propose with an elaborate gift and show off on Instagram.
Sorry the chickens have come home to roost. You have said it all |

DrTee1: As the social media is the fifth realm, right?
These effects are only very important when there is am EDUCATED citizenry with BASIC life needs assured.
That however isn't the case in Nigeria. The media is insecure. 90% of Nigerians are below poverty line. Media is all but 'bought' by the highest bidder(s) in Nigeria - in spite of the FOI Bill.
Daring media houses like NEXT have been run into extinction. Where is TELL & TheNews?
The Nigerian (largely youth) citizenry enjoys very mediocre things like sex discussions, objectification of the female gender, criminal activities like Internet fraud in the name of 'hustling' and all manners of trite activities.
Nigeria currently lacks the necessary CRITICAL MASS of young people with vision, education and direction who require experience to drive national goals.
Where such exist, they are either hamstrung, harried, ignored or driven into the periphery or abroad by the current unfavourable realities of the day.
So when we talk about Realms of the Estate, the value of that phrase is currently lost on Nigerians - especially with our almost non-existent Educational values.
PS: 90% of those who come by this may not read it to its end. No, Nigerians 'hate' EPISTLES.
So how do we improve when we don't read to engage ourselves and enlarge our horizons? You have said it all |

kakakii: I'm not here to argue or trade words rather to provide my view from practical point of views. I have tried setting up business in some African countries and I know which is doing well while some things are relative Nigeria is still better than most African countries I repeat, you can let the UN index hinder you from carrying out proper research in setting up a business
You have to remember the subject here is about setting up a profitable business and the comparison is between African countries not Norway
Nigeria is still a shit hole country and that's the reality but I'm not here to talk about where we got it wrong ( I'm tired of complaining about that) and I'm not here to put blame on the government ( I'm also tired of that) I'm comparing Nigeria to other African countries in terms of setting up business.
You said What is the point in having a “ good” economy if you can’t provide a good life for your citizens?
Well the good thing about it is that we know we have money and we. Just need someone to put it to good use ( without embezzling it) And we know we are not Somalia
We can all sit down and start complaining or look at the possibilities All African countries are shitholes (Ghana inclusive, NIGERIA inclusive ) only very few can be seen as not too shitty (the likes of Morocco) Just that some are more shitty than others e.g. South Africa being less shitty than Ghana, and Ghana being less shitty than Liberia And some $hitholes are failed, some are failing and some have refused to fail |

PetroDollax: Thank you. This is the honest, well-informed view most Nigerians need to hear. Most Nigerians are too fixed on the giant of Africa, largest economy mantra, while other African countries are steadily building their economies. I have been back in Ghana since 2010. I have seen the gradual positive changes that are happening in Ghana.
It doesn’t make sense to throw your weight around, saying I am the largest economy in Africa, and crap when your country is not only poor but has no clear agenda to move forward. Other African countries are making progress but Nigeria is stuck in the past. Some of you should travel around Africa more. we have a bad president and that slowed out progress Nigeria was one of the fastest growing economies in the world with so much prospects under previous govts, we elected an idiot and all of that progress has been reversed to an extent Nigeria still have MORE business potential than the rest of West Africa out together But the operating environment right now is not the best we have very enterprising people BUT the laws and business climate is not the best RIGHT NOW things could still change when a new leader comes in tho Nigeria is NOT poor, it only has too many poor people there is a difference The riches in Nigeria cannot be attained by a Ghana, Ivory Coast or even a Senegal in a century We just have more poor people, that's it. (extremely poor) The middle class is thin; but it's more in absolute terms than say Ghana or CIV Nigeria RIGHT now is struggling but still has potential Ghana voting in a bad leader will equally send Ghana into a worse position that it is if care is not taken. And your statement is true Ghana is making steady progress. But still needs to work on the currency aspect tho. But Ghana is doing well. |

kakakii: because we lack basic amenities ( security , 24/7 electricty, good roads and water ) people always mistake it for bad economy and think other african countries is the best place to start business compare to Nigeria.
Nigeria has a lot of problem but when we are comparing ourselves with other African countries we take the lead. take Kenya for example they have the basic amenities but their economy is not as vibrant as Nigeria own, electricity in Nairobi is 24/7 and security is top notch, if your business revolve around electricity then you will find kenya interesting but overall Nigeria is better than most african countries.
just like the other guy have said, don't be deceived by what you read online and in the news, foreign investors are storming Nigeria on a daily basis ( especially the chinese, not the chinese government, the chinese! ) foreign investors are pouring into Ghana, CIV and even Senegal in their numbers too Infact too much FDI compared to their size so the investors you see coming to Ngr is no big deal in the real sense of it compared to the sizE of the economy The countries ailing in FDI from what I have experienced is guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone /Burkina to an extent... Nigeria is no longer the beautiful bride for FDI as if used to be... Those of us in the system know What still keeps Nigeria to an extent is the bigger market, but that's it take that away and Nigeria as it is is useless The future could be really bright for these Africans countries all we need are sensible policies |
