FamilyRe: Must Marriage Be About Love? by UjSizzle(f): 7:23pm On Jun 05, 2015
I think that convenience is a good reason. Perhaps the sum of all possible reasons we can imagine.

Companionship, a feeling of incompleteness, societal pressure (status and children), legitimate sex to fulfill some religious law--- all boils down to convenience. If we could isolate each reason listed and eliminate others then I imagine a good number of the world's population would find marriage unnecessary.
If one didn't feel the need for a companion and society pressure isn't a factor, then why would marriage even become necessary?

Reminds me of someone who said all our actions are motivated by selfish interest.

I think it depends on the age the individuals are at
Younger couples are more likely to marry for love than older couples IMHO
When one is older and "set in their ways " it becomes more for companionship and perhaps a need to please others ( family ,society, clock running out, prove a point etc).when the older couples are in their second marriage,it adds on a whole 'nother dimension, love may not be tops on the list,I think.

This is a good topic for another thread grin
I believe the emboldened to be true irrespective of age. Otherwise we wouldn't have young, unmarried men and women looking for relationships (even if the aim isn't marriage).
FamilyRe: Ladies Talk To Me by UjSizzle(f): 7:02pm On Jun 05, 2015
Timbuktou:
I have a different hypothesis. We have been conditioned, by society, to value marriage, and rightly so, I might add. I mean, what, exactly, do men gain from marriage? We toil till our last for the wives and children.
It'll take a married man to answer this question. But I'm willing to bet that having a woman call you her sun and stars (do you watch GOT?) is something. So maybe the popular notion is that one who receives gains more, but what about the one who serves? I know there's greater joy in giving and seeing appreciation from the people you serve than when you're always on the receiving end. I think that the man's authority in the home places him in a position of servitude, but that isn't a bad thing in itself; it's the price of leadership. We aren't equal. We both have different roles, important but distinct roles. It shouldn't be a deterrent to marriage.

In a situation where the man, the wife and the child are in danger with the reality that only two of the three could survive, who dies, and why?
The man. He'll give his life for the people he loves as is the nature of love. Same way a mother will gladly give her life for her child.

Try answering these posers honestly and try to raise corollaries.
Hope you're satisfied.

Sex serves a million purposes, people could turn to it for any of these.[/quote]

Nobody marries for love, something your aunt neglected to mention. Everybody should know their place and role and act accordingly.
I think we marry out of a deep desire to feel complete.

Probably the same reason some people turn to sex when they're lonely and feeling empty.

I've met cheating men and women who are fully aware of his actions but do nothing about it. So maybe it is true that some men cheat and we can't change it, but how we deal with this fact is very subjective.
You can choose to ignore or rant or even lace his food with and OD of Tylenol (real nice cheesy)... whatever makes you happy. I know women who don't care what the man does so long he takes care of his family while at it.

Personally I have no idea what I'd do if that happened to me. I'll place my bet on the Tylenol though tongue or maybe I'll leave the nigger. But I sure as hell won't be killing myself for no bastard.

Still I'm keeping my aunt's advice close to heart.
"Men marry because they want legitimate children and not for love."
Could be bad advice depending on your prerogative, but it's bound to give every woman a goodnight's sleep.

Alexandra is a good one too.
