The treasurer of Oruku Neighborhood Watch in Nkanu East local government area of Enugu state, Mr. Callistus Amushi, has been shot dead by gunmen who laid an ambush for him near his residence in the village Saturday morning.

Community sources said the shooting might not be unconnected with the unending communal conflict in Oruku which has claimed many lives and property since December, 2020 when the conflict was renewed with killing of the traditional ruler, Igwe Chidiebere Mba.

Mba was shot dead by a ‘paid police officer’ from Abuja in December 26, 2020 while one Mr. Okey Ogbodo, who was Chairman of Aguikpa Neighbourhood Watch was gunned down by assailants in Oruku on June 13, this year.

It is a shame that the All Progressive Congress, of which I am a member, postponed the zonal congress earlier scheduled for Okpara Square, Enugu on 30th of May, due to the scare of IPOB, ESN and UGM. It is a big shame and it shows the caliber of people plotting the affairs of the party in the South East.

I was called by some key chieftains of the party and drafted into one or two sub committees for the success of the rally, but I smelt foul when I heard that Governor Uzodimma was in support of postponing the event for fear of attack.

APC has two Governors in the South East, and Six Cabinet Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama, Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of State for Education, Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba, and the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Uche Oga, Minister of State for Women Affairs, Sharon Ikeazor with four of them substantive ministers. So these men do not have enough boys to dialogue, appease, or contain members of IPOB, ESN or UGM, and hold a successful rally.

One of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants, Dr Godwin Maduka, is currently disturbed at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center, Awka, the venue of the Anambra PDP governorship primary after 10 of his campaign officials made away with $450,000.

According to an eye-witness at the scene of the PDP guber primary holding on Saturday, Maduka had earmarked $45,000 as a bribe to give to the super delegates from each local government.

The source further revealed that about 10 of his staff reportedly collected the cash from him at the hotel where he was lodging and became unreachable later on.

Ezenwankwo, who represents Orumba North and South Federal Constituency in a statement on Thursday said said people were threatened to vote a particular aspirant.

“The level of intimidation witnessed inside the venue of the primary arena where people are threatened to vote a particular aspirant or be dismissed by the party is indeed against good conscience. Our party cannot degenerate to this level.

I Won’t Drink Water Used To Bath My Late Husband, Widow Cries Out

A 34-year-old widow, Mrs Chioma Asomugha from Ubahuekem in Ihiala area of Anambra, has raised alarm that her in-laws were forcing her to drink water used in bathing her late husband’s corpse.Chioma, the widow, confirmed the report in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Awka.

She alleged that the brothers of her late husband, Charles, said she must drink the water to prove that she was not responsible for her husband’s death, but that she would not do that.

Chioma said that she and her late husband lived peacefully in Ojo area of Lagos before his death.“I have four children with my late husband and we lived at Ajangbadi, Ojo area of Lagos before his demise.“The burial is fixed for Monday June 14, but since we came home for the burial, the relatives of my husband forced me out of my matrimonial home.“They insisted that before I will be allowed to come in that I will drink the water used in bathing my late husband’s corpse,” she claimed.

Chioma said she took the matter to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Awka as well as her Oraifite people with a view to resolving the matter.Mrs Laura Ugwuanyi, Coordinator of NHRC in Anambra, confirmed the report, describing it as obnoxious.She said efforts made to handle the matter did not yield positive results as the family members were not cooperating.Chief Gerald Nnabugwu, a community leader in the area, told NAN that the leadership of the community was looking into the matter.

Mr C-Don Adinuba, state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment also promised to intervene in the matter. When contacted, Mr. Okey Chukwu, President General of Ubahuekem community said he was in a meeting and promised to call back, but as at the time of this report, his phone was switched off.

The menace of endless killings in select regions of Nigeria appear to continued unabated. This is as twelve more persons were slaughtered in Kuru, a community located in Jos South Local Government Area [LGA].

According to on the ground information received by 247ureports.com, the attackers, suspected to be Fulani killer herdsmen, attacked the community by 9pm. The attack concentrated in an area known as Shol along Maraba Jama’a. The killers wore long black coats armed with automatic rifles. “They were young men”.

Two women and ten men were found dead at the end of the attack. Some of the dead were found inside the drinking parlours and bars. Some of the dead were reported to be passer-by who were gun down and hacked to death. The local chief is said to have survived the attack.

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja has sacked the state and Local Government Executive Councils (EXCOs) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State.

Justice O.A. Adeniyi gave the order sacking the EXCOs in a judgment on a suit marked: HC/CV/774/2021 filed by Samuel Anyakolah (for himself and all Local Government Chairmen and Ward executives that emerged from the Anambra PDP congress conducted on November 28 and December 1, 2017 under the supervision of Sir Chukwudi, as acting Chairman State Caretaker Committee).

Listed as defendants in the suit are the PDP, Chief Ndubisi Nwobu and Barr. Uchenna Obiora.

Anyakolah claimed that the PDP arbitrarily imposed state chairmen, Exco members and local government chairmen and national delegates on members in its South-east zonal congress of March March. 6, 2021.

But the threat of attacks on the uniformed security officers by the unknown gun men has changed the normal arrangements where politician would employ and/or depend on the services of state owned uniformed security outfits. This normalcy was particularly perturbed following the attack on the frontline aspirant of one of the political party – All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] – who was attacked by the unknown gun men – at a public meeting at his hometown. A one-time Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN], Prof Chukwuma C. Soludo was attacked while holding a public meeting with political associates and followers when the unknown gun men stroke – killing four policemen and abducting a State Commissioner who also happens to be his in-law.

Following the incident, the dynamics of political gatherings has since changed dramatically. Using the normal Nigerian police force as security escort has stopped. Most politicians, particularly the aspirants have dropped the police. They have opted for private security firms instead.

At the recent event when a few of the APGA gubernatorial aspirants came to pick up their expression of interest forms in Awka, Anambra State, virtually all the aspirants arrived with private security arrangement, unlike during previous outings when the gubernatorial aspirants would be decked with stern faced mobile police officers. This time around it was strikingly different. Prof. Soludo arrived the venue to pick his nomination forms escorted by a private security firm.

Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic preacher, has not been proclaimed wanted, according to the minister of information, Lai Mohammed, since there is no evidence that the cleric is inciting violence against the federal government.

According to The Cable, Mohammed made the comments in response to a question from journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, June 2.

Gumi’s conduct, he said, cannot be equated to those of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Under the proposal, the State Governors would allow the IPOB to operate the security outfit without interference from the State government. The IPOB would be allowed to operate and manage the security of the entire south east – in return for the IPOB changing the name of the outfit to a less contemptuous one. The name change would legalize the outfit – and also allow the State government to ease off the restraints placed on the group. The move would get the federal government “off their backs”.

The game plan according to our source is – the name change will enable the Governors the leverage to claim the ESN has been routed out of the south east and that the problem of ESN/IPOB has been solved. And, Ebubeagu will replace ESN.

But the ESN/IPOB leadership are not buying into the game plan owing largely to distrust and a perceived conflict of interest. The leadership of IPOB view the intentions of the South East Governors as deceptive and not sincere. “The interests of these Governors are not the safety of our people. Rather, their concern is appeasement of their northern friends in Abuja. We don’t want any hand in it”.

A youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Kenneth Amukamara has been killed by unidentified gunmen.

Amukamara, the PDP youth leader in Oru-East local government area of Imo was assassinated by the gunmen on Monday night in Umuokwe village.

They also burnt down his house and car during the attack, Naija News gathered.

Yesterday 31st May, 2021, for persons were ambushed and killed in Goska village, Kaninkon Chiefdom, Jemaa Local Government Area of Kaduna state. They were coming from the farm around 4:30pm.

Villagers described the assailant as armed Fulani herdsmen.

The National Leadership of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) while speaking through the National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka in Owerri on Tuesday 1st June, noted that the Police have come again with their blackmail against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) all in an attempt to give a dog a bad name just to hang it.

He noted that the death of Dr. Ahmed Gulak in Imo State was a well-calculated script aimed to discredit Sen. Hope Uzodinma’s administration, “we, therefore, urge him to deploy every conventional and unconventional means to expose the perpetrators of this evil and make them to face the law,” he said.

“It’s important to recall that the immediate past Inspector General of Police within 24hrs of Owerri jailbreak categorically stated that IPOB/ESN are responsible for the crime, yet after twisting the crime to unknown men, till today, the perpetrators of this crime have not been arrested.

“Unfortunately, on Tuesday 25th May unknown gunmen attacked Orji police station in Owerri without being apprehended. During Owerri jailbreak, the so-called unknown gunmen engage in 4hrs operation at the Correctional center and Imo State Police Headquarters without being repelled by the police and army, the perpetrators went home freely. But today, within a twinkling of an eye, after the killing of Dr. Ahmed Gulak, they have allegedly traced it to IPOB/ESN.
