Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari has deleted a Facebook post of his statement denying taking a bribe from Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi, checks by The Nation has revealed.

Hushpuppi had alleged he gave Kyari money to jail the rival after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari businesspeople.

But Kyari denied, saying he never collected or demanded money from Hushpuppi.

Kyari had released a statement on his authentic Facebook page narrating how he only connected the Hushpuppi to a fabric dealer whom the latter paid about N300, 000.

He also edited his statement to further include another money-related case he handled involving Hushpuppi.

But he deleted where he had earlier claimed to have linked Hushpuppi up with his tailor.

“Nobody demanded or collected any money from Abbas Hushpuppi. He can be interviewed publicly in the presence of world media by the people holding him to confirm this,” the now-deleted version reads.

Suspected armed herdsmen invaded the Mgbuji community in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State and killed eight people, injured and kidnapped many people, and also destroyed farmlands.

There are rising fears in the community that causalities may rise in the coming days due to the level of injuries sustained by some of the villagers who were caught in the attacks.

A villager, Chinaza Akan, who witnessed the incident said one of the casualties was a pregnant woman who was killed by the armed herdsmen, her stomach opened and fetus removed.

Lead Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Ifeanyi Ejiofor on Thursday alleged the Department of State Security Services (DSS) denied him access his client

This, he said, was in violation of a court order.

He shared a copy of the order by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court that access must be granted to his client.

He said the DSS insisted the request to meet Kanu would be looked into and accordingly approved by their DG before access can be granted.

In a statement on his Facebook he said: “On the 26th Day of July 2021, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Nyako of Court No. 2 Federal High Court Abuja, after listening to our application, wherein I raised serious concerns about the safety and medical condition of Our Client, whom ordinarily was supposed to be produced in court on that day, ordered that the Detention Authority (DSS) should allow us access to him.

To enable the party transmit their gubernatorial candidate to the INEC, the INEC had devised a mechanism. The mechanism required the INEC to generate a special secret code to be made available to the party national chairman to enable the party to log on to the INEC online platform to download the necessary form for the gubernatorial candidate and the deputy gubernatorial candidate.

The INEC made the secret code available to Chief Victor Oye at the capacity of the national chairman of the APGA. The code was used to download the forms for the gubernatorial candidate and the deputy on July 2, 2021. The forms were filled out by the candidate and the deputy. Another code was generated by the INEC and made available to the party national chairman – to enable him submit forms online to the INEC platform. Both forms were submitted by Chief Oye on July 2, 2021. A confirmation of receipt was generated and delivered to the party national chairman. On the same day, a hard copy of the forms were delivered to the INEC office in Abuja.

As expected, the INEC was bound to publish the names of the party’s candidate seven days after the names are submitted to the INEC. In APGA’s case, the names were to be published on July 9, 2021.

But INEC did not.

Rather, INEC waited till July 16, 2021 to publish the names – for reasons known only to the top officials of the Commission.

Justice Obiora Nwabunike said this at the hearing on Motion Exparte by Dr Ugochukwu Uba which among Orders barred Mr Valentine Ozigbo from parading himself as PDP candidate.

Nwabunike also ruled that the Motion Exparte could no longer be heard as it had abated following the inability of the legal teams to conclude their responses before seven days which elapsed today.

The Order in Motion A558m/ 2021 obtained on July 5 also asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reject any name submitted to by PDP pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The said order, initially granted by Justice Obiora A. Nwabunike, going by Order 40, Rule 3(3) of the High Court Civil Procedure Rules could only subsist for 7 days after which the Court may choose to renew it or it stands abated as a result.

Going by the proceedings of today, Monday, July 12, 2021 and the Courts refusal to renew the said order, it stands abated and vacated. Thus, the order which restrained “the Peoples Democratic Party from presenting, receiving, parading or accepting Ozigbo as the authentic Governorship Candidate for Anambra State” stands vacated.

The polity is twitching sequel to 17 Southern governors’ demand at their meeting last Monday in Lagos, that the South should be allowed to take a shot at the presidency in 2023.

Tongues are wagging over the issue as many political bigwigs from the North see it as a way of shutting them out of the presidential race.

Pundits have argued that zoning can only be guaranteed by political parties which field candidates for various political offices.

The Federal Road Safety Commission has approved the promotion of 62 Assistant Corps Corps Commanders (ACC) to the rank of Deputy Corps Commander (DCC), 44 Chief Route Commanders (CRC) to the rank of Assistant Corps Commander (ACC), 50 Superintendent Route Commanders (SRC) to the rank of Chief Route Commander, as 128 Route Commanders got elevated to the rank of Superintendent Route Commanders (SRC). In the same sitting, the Board equally meted punitive actions on erring officers, amongst which 2 were dismissed, the appointment of 2 terminated, while 1 was awarded reduction in rank, 3 suffered loss of seniority and 1 was awarded severe reprimand. The punitive actions given were as a result of varying offences committed in service.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, who made the statement, revealed that the promotion takes effect from July, 2021. According to him, the approval came at the end of the meeting of the Commission on 7 July, 2021, ratifying the resolution of the Establishment Committee of FRSC on promotion of Officers, where the exercise was diligently deliberated upon.

The Commission’s Chairman, Mallam Bukhari Bello expressed delight over the height of transparency and objectivity that ushered in the whole process and urged the promoted Officers to show more commitment and continually dedicate themselves to achieving the Corporate mission of the Corps which is to eradicate road traffic crashes and create a safer motoring environment in the country.
