Toju200:
The Nigerian Air Force in coordination with the Nigerian Army and regional troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force ( MNJTF) launched a successfully coordinated intelligence-led aerial strike on Boko Haram Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP ) hideouts in the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin on September 26, 2020.

The precision airstrikes were deployed just hours after a surprise ambush by a unit of ISIS-linked Islamic State of West Africa Province on a resettlement convoy en route Baga - several brave soldiers, policemen and civilians were sacrificed and wounded. This is the second ambush on the convoy of the BORNO state government in less than three months. The governor was not in the convoy of the latest ISWAP ambush which occurred along Monguno cross Kauwa road in comparison to the July 2020 ambush in Baga town.

Impeccable sources have confirmed that the aerial strikes targeted ISWAP jihadist at a location given as ARINNA SORO — situated along the fringes of the Lake Chad and Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno.

An initial ground damage assessment revealed the operational leadership decapitation of at least two-battlefield hardened ISWAP commanders - One Amir Sa'ad and another known as Abu Rahi. These two commanders are known to have previously cheated death alongside hundreds of jihadist fighters in a recent targeted aerial strike by the Nigerian Air Force in coordination with ground troops of the MNJTF at several jihadist locations; Kirta, Wulgo, Kwalaram, Tumbun Gini, Bakkassi, Kusuma, Bukar Mairam and Sabon Tumbun.

In the September 26 Airstrikes, sources also confirmed that dozens of ISWAP fighters were eliminated while some of the insurgents' heavy armoury was hit and destroyed by the precision Airstrike. In a chain of misfortune for ISWAP jihadist, scores of escaping insurgents were killed after own planted mines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were ignited by the Nigerian Air Force strike.

In recent months, Boko Haram Shekau and ISWAP factions have lost major camps as a result of aerial bombardment from state and regional forces targeting locations in the Sambisa Forest and the fringes of Lake Chad Basin. Thousands of Boko Haram ISWAP fighters have been neutralised with more than 22 high profile Commanders killed in the same period.

State and regional operations have recorded a number of battlefield successes. This should not be impacted by jihadist ambush/hit and run tactics common in asymmetric warfare environment.

Recommendation:
It is imperative for the Nigerian Military, regional MNJTF and civilian intervention to maintain the tempo of current operational coordination and focus on delivering effective intervention activities in the region.

Intelligence-led and coordinated ground and aerial strikes continue to weaken and destabilise the battlefield capacity of Boko Haram ISWAP factions operating in North East/West Nigeria; Sambisa Forest; the Mandara mountains and the axis of the Lake Chad Basin states.

In asymmetric warfare, kinetic efforts are not designed to produce a stand-alone sustainable solution. These significant security and military efforts ( despite existing challenges) should be complemented with equal inter(Multi) agency engagement from civilian driven local government, state , Federal ( National), and regional coordination— with particular focus on reclaiming ungoverned or partially governed spaces to prevent jihadist from benefiting by deploying hearts and minds activities — including fund raising and recruitment of vulnerable men and women into their depleted ranks

Nawa for this 2020 oooo
ghen ghen.... another proxy war between strongmen Erdogan and Putin
Erdogan's turkey supports majority Muslim Azerbaijan
Putin's Russia supports majority Christian Armenia
supposed contested territory is the self-styled Republic of Artsakh located in between both countries
Both have accused the other of flying in Syrian fighters with promise of 800dollar monthly salaries.
well, well, lets see how this unfolds

Russia backs Armenia and also has a base there with MIG-29s stationed.

Turkey backs Azerbaijan, the country also has helicopters stationed there.
mehn, this one go rugged oh, reading that Armenia is accusing Turkey of transporting fighters from Syria into the zone, ready to battle Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan on the other hand also accused of having recruited mercenaries and terrorists from the Middle East.
Looks like this is one twisted plot with very many actors, all capable of causing serious damage.
Iran is calling for restraint on both sides, the fact that here are no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan makes this situation even more precarious.
Azerbaijan is 97 percent Muslim while Armenia is 97 percent Christian
Will this be another proxy war between Erdogan's Turkey and Putin's Russia, both men have been flexing muscle since Syria, Libya, both always supporting opposing sides... now this. This seems too close to home for Russia though, don't know if Putin will be able to contain this without it spilling over. Even though Armenia is 1/3 the Azerbaijan economy and population, Armenia always manages to bloody up Azerbaijan, due to Russia's backing. But this time Turkey's a bit stronger now since ottoman times, so we don't know if Erdogan will want to prove a point. But from the opening salvo, Armenia and Russia kicking ass right now abi?
and apparently they still hold on to the disputed territory called Nagorno-Karabakh now called the Republic of Artsakh albeit indirectly

It all starts with belief.

Nobody believed in 2015 that Nigeria would become a net exporter of MRAPs.

If Pakistan, Serbia can build fighter jets, Nigeria will also be able to do so.
Abi oh, we can vividly remember those years, begging FG to buy hand me down MRAPS from America, second hand from eastern Europe, anything from anywhere to save personnel from soft-skinned death traps . It took the believe of a few Nigerians to point the way, showing what was possible, we all remember igirigi... we've come a long way abeg... Now, are we where we need to be, NO, as long as we still see personnel in active engagement riding soft-skinnies, we have a lot of work to do, but at least the work is now somewhere in a factory in kaduna not over the bloody seas. We might still have to import steel and aluminum but that too will come to an end very soon with the reactivation of ajaokuta and alcon.
so yes locally built fighter jet, for sure yes. Especially with the jf17 coming in, the Pakistanis show us the way.

Because dicon built mraps now you think they can build combat jets??

Wawu!!
Can start with reverse engineering turbo-props too if that's easier to fathom.

Note the NAFSA Eagle, a turbo-prop light utility aircraft is been developed by the Air force, we saw the fuselage in 2018, that project's still ongoing
Chief of air staff Sadiq Abubakar did state that "The push for improved domestic capabilities follows Nigeria's success in refurbishing and re-commissioning several helicopters, fixed-wing turbo-prop aircraft, fighter and trainer jets, and aerial defense systems."

Wawu!!
Well, as earlier stated "its all in the mind" If a person believes they cant, then they will never, but if they believe its possible, then the rest is logistics. Note, for starters, I mentioned to replicate, i.e reverse engineering, not so long ago, some so called Nigerians were laughing at her attempts to develop MRAPs but I think we can all agree that we have a number of companies doing that now, DICON included.
The most difficult part of a jet aircraft is the engine, this can be sourced off-shelf, avionics sourced off-shelf what's left?
precision machining aluminum and steel to form the body can definitely be done in-house
hydraulic pipe bending, wiring, can also be done in-house,
hydraulic pipes for actuators, stabilizer motors, motor pumps, brake valves can also be done in-house, motors and pumps and be sources off-shelf
the point is to show that its possible. If engineers are already capable of overhauling, its not a great leap to reverse engineering. fact.

Avionics upgrade on Nigerian Air Force alpha jet.
Dopeness of life, these upgrades are not as difficult as we sometimes think, the believe just need to be there that its possible, then watch, see magic. Even more impressed with the jet engine assessments and teardowns to replace the turbine blades, the scopes used to inspect the blades for damage. The engine seems like the most difficult part, and if they're already building expertise in this aspect then, definitely looking forward to a modern ground-up Alpha jet replica soon. Its all in the mind.
PS: Alpha jet replica for in country use, not for export so there shouldn't be any need to acquire IP rights. Better yet, modify slightly so beat any backlash. grin Dicon can achieve this, with the level of sophistication they're showing with the newer version MRAPs.

GENERAL COURT MARTIAL SENTENCES MWO OYEBANJI, 3 OTHERS TO 21 YEARS IMPRISONMENT, REDUCTION IN RANK

Four executive members of the 151 Base Services Group (151 BSG) Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Makurdi, who were standing trial before a General Court Martial (GCM), sitting at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, Makurdi for criminal misappropriation of over N41,000,000.00, were, on 24 September 2020, awarded various sentences. The 4 NAF personnel, who were arraigned before the GCM for Misappropriation of Cooperative Funds, amongst other offences, include Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Sherifi Olawoore, Flying Officer (Fg Offr) Ademola Adekoya, Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Michael Oyebanji and Warrant Officer (WO) Paul Atteh. The personnel were sentenced based on their levels of involvement.

Delivering his judgement, the President of the GCM, Air Commodore Nazib Aliyu, pronounced the 4 accused personnel guilty of various charges. Flt Lt Olawoore was tried for negligently performing his duty as the President of the Cooperative, found guilty and awarded 6 months loss of seniority. In the same vein, Fg Offr Adekoya was tried for negligently performing his duty as Secretary of the Cooperative. He was found guilty and awarded one year loss of seniority.

MWO Michael Oyebanji, who was the Vice President of the Cooperative, was tried on a 46 count charge, including; Criminal Breach of Trust, Theft, Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Misappropriation, Making of False Documents and Conduct to the Prejudice of Service Discipline, contrary to Sections 114 and 103 (d) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Sections 312, 287, 96 and 309 of the Penal Code Cap P3 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. He was found guilty on all 46 counts and subsequently sentenced to serve 21 years imprisonment, cumulatively, as well as reduction in rank to Corporal and ordered to refund all monies misappropriated. In the same vein, WO Paul Atteh, who was tried for negligently performing his duty as the Treasurer of the Cooperative as well as for the Making of False Documents and Criminal Breach of Trust, was found guilty of all 3 charges. He was awarded reduction in rank from WO to Sergeant, in the first instance, and then eventually reduced to the rank of Corporal. He is also required to pay a fine of N1,000,000.00. Meanwhile, the GCM has ordered the release of WO Atteh from detention.

While pleading in mitigation, the Defence Counsel urged the Court to show leniency, describing the Accused Persons as first-time offenders. The sentences were announced as being subject to confirmation by the Appropriate Superior Authority. However, it is within the rights of the Accused Personnel to appeal the judgment of the GCM, if they are dissatisfied.

Your story about the F-35A not flying was to do with a particular fault to their aircraft. Other F-35s have been flying as the F-35B clip from the QE aircraft carrier below shows.

No, this is a program wide issue for the F35A. Its due to the leakage of inert gases that greatly increase the possibility of spontaneous combustion if the airplane flies in or around complex weather systems like thunderstorms. Meaning the airplane can explode if its hit with lightning. Word. Lockheed Martin has advised operators of the plane to fly at least 25 miles away from thunderstorms.... I find myself shaking my head vigorously while I type this because it seems so unbelievable, but I reiterate, this is all fact. This has been a reoccurring for the f35a issue since 2010

every new aircraft must have an issue to be resolved, it doesn't mean that the jf17 won't have its own issues too.
ikr, abi oh, its just that for the price of the F35 (90 - 120 million dollars), to find out that it cannot fly when there's a thunderstorm just sounds absolutely unbelievable. That's like buying a huge generator only to find out it cant work when the sun shines too bright..
Again, one simply cannot make this up. The so called Russians are looking at them with side eye, so much for a so called 5th gen jet. In the opinion of almost every professional fighter jet aficionado, this f35 is a boondoggle.
Yes the JF17 will have issues but inability to fly when it rains heavy is definitely not one of them.
I get your point tho; for sure with the local capacity been built, repairs and overhaul of the jf17 should be a walk in the park.

Who is following up on what is happening in Ghana... I don't think such a thing can ever happen in Nigeria.

Some armed men took over a state, and they declared independence.
They blockaded the roads leading to the Volta region
They say they want their Western Togoland back championed by the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF). They've been training soldiers for years now; arrests are usually made but nothing comes of it. The Ghana government apparently doesn't want to handle the group with a tough fist, they are hoping the group will die a natural death; bad idea. Now they've sacked a police station and carted away guns and ammunition, blockaded the roads leading to the Volta region claiming independence, saying they did not agree to be part of Independent Ghana ab initio.

The Volta region where HGSF is domiciled is majority EWE people, they constitute about 13% of the country

distinct from the AKAN people who are the majority in the south and constitute about 57% of the country

GA people control central Accra, where Ghana's capital lies.

Current president Nana Akufo Addo identifies as GA

Current past president John Mahama also contending in upcoming elections identifies as NORTHERN

President before him was John Atta Mills identifies as AKAN

Longest ruling president Jerry John Rawlings identifies as EWE

His Majesty DF Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI is the Osu Mantse or King of the GA people of Osu in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana,
he is the King that allegedly ordered the demolition of the Nigerian building not too long ago.

we are waiting to see how the Ghana government deals with this issue. Lets see if their gra gra is for real.
about 19 persons were arrested out of the hundreds that participated in the demonstration. airlifted to the capital.

impressive, local content at its best, kudos, kudos.
we need drones, drones, drones... God we need more drones. I know some more are coming in, just cant wait.
who believes the attack on the Governors convoy would have been possible with a MALE drone loitering above.
who believes soldiers going out on routine clearance operations should have drones overhead for support to identify where enemy fire is coming from and taking out those targets.
In my opinion, I'm thinking controlling the drones with satellite(uplink) and relaying videos(downlink) is proving super expensive, could that be the reason why we don't have these UAV's in great numbers at this time, no other reason comes to mind as to why we dont have 50 to 100 UAV's at this point. I know we've been clamoring for UAV's since forever because it just seems like a no-brainer right? If we factor in the dollar cost of the communication link for these UAV's then maybe it makes sense as to why we dont have UAV's in great numbers just yet .

So i will suggest we stick to line of sight communications for now, but instead of the just one base station that controls the gulma or tsaigumi, the military should have at least 15 - 20 base stations to cover the entire north-east, north central, base stations like the ones telecommunication providers use but special purpose for communication with UAV's and to also relay communication to the next tower and the next tower and the next tower until it gets to command station. This should eliminate the need for satellite for uplink and downlink; then GPS can just be used for current location of UAV relative to the map- this literally cost pennies.
Think about it, if a UAV loiters for 15 -24 hrs, constantly sending HD video over satellite, I think we can all guess it'll get expensive really fast.
But if we adopt the multiple ground station method, I think we can overcome this hiccup, even though we have a geostationary satellite of our own NIGCOMSAT 1R is 1 out of the 5 satellites we've put up, I'm guessing its still very expensive for the military to utilize this satellite effectively and efficiently.

There is nothing like bravery here. This is Common sense, even the US president won't wake up one and start touring war zones that is largely at the hands on Terrorists, even Obama had to sneak in unannounced to great troops and still yet Taliban's will find away to launch an attack. There is what is called High value target and terrorists are ready to give thier all to ensure they make a statement. It's just like saying Buratai should join the soldiers in trench. If BHT get the info they'll do everything possible to attack his location and good people may fall trying to defend him. Nobody is saying Zullum shouldn't show love to his people the thing is that he should know that his tour is endangering the lives of others it is common sense, he can delegate these things to people, do you know the kind of media outcry and lampooning of the military that will follow if it happens to be that the Governor gets killed in an ambush or his vehicle hits an IED, you will be the first to call for the head of military commanders.
Reading from the report pouring in, actually the Governor was not in the convoy attacked by the ideologically deranged elements.
The convoy attacked was that of government officials leading the way by road to the resettlement areas.
"The governor flew on a helicopter into the garrison town of Monguno, 60 kilometres (40 miles) away, and headed to Baga in a convoy under tight security, one of the sources said."
If the Government officials in Borno are not ready to lay down their lives for their home, Its over. This has not been a tea party and will never be.
Rest in peace to the members of the multitude of tribes that have given their blood for the North East, but the hardest battle will have to be fought by those whose ancestral lands are been overrun.

Comparing this situation to that of an American president visiting Afghanistan is not only disingenuous, it smacks of an absolute non-capacity to grasp the issue at hand. Thorough reasoning by a honest person will see that these two issues are diametrically opposed. Afghanistan is never the home of any American president, do we really need to spell this out.
Buratai has joined soldier in the trenches, or have we forgotten, so that's a non-issue.
This is not about Babagana showing love to his people, this is his job for God's sake, he took an oath to defend his people, is he just supposed to hunker down in Maiduguri and pretend as if he cannot see the abject poverty and squalor his people are been rendered into.
Babagana is ready to die for his people, this is the true definition of a leader, someone with no fear, lily livered yes men are advised to resign immediately. This is not a job for the faint hearted. Babagana Zulum has just been awarded the 2019 ZIK price for leadership.

We all recognize improvements need to be made in respect of fighting equipment for the troops, we must continue to agitate for this cause, but what we cannot do is condemn a governor doing his JOB.
RIP to the departed; adequate compensation must be made to the families.

I am beginning to believe he does this deliberately to feather his image. It's high time someone bluntly call his bluff and I think it's the military that's in the right position to do that.
Abi him know know say his presence attracts terrorists as par high value target.
its easy to be a coward sha. so if Bornu people will not live and die for Bornu, who will?
The governor in my opinion must continue to go where his heart leads him.
He must continue to insist on resettlement of the population albeit giving that population the means to defend themselves.
This lowlifes will eventually be crushed, definitely not by the cowardly, but by those who have the will to survive.
Yes, this sounds like some speech to lift the spirits, but I reiterate, if Bornu people are not willing to die for their land, they will loose it.
The Governor understands this, which is why he insists on resettlement, some people say its not yet safe, The governor knows to call their bluff.
People are ready to give their lives for this land. Rest in peace to the departed.
The people of Bornu must continually activate their traditional heritage filled with beautiful melodies, dancing and singing, in order to vividly separate themselves from the ideologically deranged.
I hear the agro-rangers are doing phenomenal. we need more of these. The number police and military personnel is not enough
if this story's true, rest in peace to the departed. May god forgive their sins.
