We all know doing business in Nigeria isn't too easy as shown in Nigeria's poor position on the "Ease of doing business rankings". Here are the top 3 factors which contribute the most to the difficulty of doing business in Nigeria. 1. BAD EMPLOYEES This is the biggest killer of businesses in Nigeria today. The greater majority of Nigerian employees are wicked, greedy, self centered and fraudulent. All they care about is what they get from the business, they don't even consider what they can give to the business. They want to make your entire profit as their personal gain. They are just constantly looking for opportunity to steal via various methods. Because of all this, the business owner has to spend so much extra money on so many levels of internal controls, measures to avoid theft, CCTV, increased security, and so much more, just because of the dishonest nature of Nigerian employees. Fail to put all these in place and the employees will steal your business dry. No wonder businesses who can afford it prefer to employ expensive expatriates to fill sensitive positions rather than Nigerians. 2. CREDIT SALES This is another problem of doing business in Nigeria as some businesses require sales on credit to get reasonable patronage. This shouldn't be a problem if not for the dishonest nature of Nigerians. Nigerians don't like to pay debt. They look so meek when collecting goods and services on credit but turn to lions when it's time to pay. They'll come up with all sorts of stories and excuses, not minding how such bad debt affects the negatively affects the cash flow on the business being owed. The worst part is that there is actually no way to recover such debt in Nigeria. Report to the police and they'll tell you dragging debt is not their job. Go to court, and after spending so much time and money there, the debtor could be told to pay a N100,000 debt over 5 or more years. 3. TRADE UNIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS This is the name under which some Nigerians extort others in their line of business. These market and trade unions don't add any value to business whatsoever, they are just there to extort so money from the business in the name of dues and all sorts of fees. The money they extort is enough to be declared as profit. An example is the Lagos tailor freedom list that made front page few days ago. There are other factors which contribute to difficultly of business such as poor electricity and all that, but they are negligible when compared to those mentioned above which are the major problems. If they can be fixed, business will become far far easier to in this country. |
GoTV:Aaaammmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenn Firing squad is too lenient sef..... They should be burnt alive..... Or the body cut into pieces over the period of days, a slow agonising death, their hearts ripped out of their chest while still alive. Silly people. E no go better for them. |
I totally agree with the OP. The next big business killer after bad management are bad and dishonest employees who want to make more than your profit as their personal gain. The sad thing is that majority of Nigerian employees fall under this category. Really hard to get good employees in this country. Employ Nigerians and you have to spend a lot on all sorts of measures to decrease theft, internal controls, CCTV, more security etc. No wonder companies prefer to employ more expensive expatriates in sensitive positions than to employ locals. Next is credit sales. Nigerians will never pay debt. Nigerians always have this fraudulent mentality, some will even fight you on top of money they're owing you. I think its time debt is made a criminal offence on Nigeria. Next after that is bad market unions, trade associations and all that. The money they extort is enough to be declared as profit. Some silly Nigerians will just form a union and be using it to extort businesses in the name of all sorts of fees and dues. A good example was the Lagos tailor freedom list brough to front page some days back. In short, the very nature of Nigerians is the biggest problem to businesses operating in the country. |

Goodday everyone. Many people have different opinions about loans, some see it as way to destroy business, others see it as a way to grow. I'd like everyone who has taken a loan to come forward and share their experience during the period of paying it back, so others can learn. Whether personal or business loans from commercial banks, microfinance banks, cooperatives or traditional money lenders. What kind of institution did you get it from? Bank? MFB? cooperative? What was it for? starting a business? What were the terms, the interest rate, the tenor? How was the payback period like? Was it difficult? Did you default on payment, what were the consequences, did you finish paying as planned? Will you take a loan again after your experience? Share you experience so others can learn. Thanks. Mods, seun, dominique , FOD , naijacutee , puskin, front page please, so more people can share their experience and more can learm. |
Hmm... Nawaooo..... Has Ibikoke been caught? |
Hmmmm..... It's been 3 years now. Has Ibijoke been caught? |
She's very silly. What does she mean by "Doctor said they'll cut the leg but mercy said NO" Ungrateful girl, trying to demonize the doctors who worked hard, day and night to save her life. Who eventually fixed her "almost disfigured face and legs"? Who got her walking again? Not even a single word of gratitude to the doctors, but rather, words of spite. Mtcheeeeeew.......Next time she is sick or has another accident, she shouldn't go to the hospital. She should go to the church or wherever "mercy will say NO". Well, on behalf of this ungrateful being, let me thank the medical doctors who handled her case, all glory, honour and praise be to them. Wonderful doctors. |
nairaproject:Lol.... What is good for the goose is also good for the gander It's not only doctors that deal with life Lawyers should also offer their services free to avoid people been sentenced to prison or even death due to lack of funds to hire lawyers. Mechanics should fix and maintain cars for free. Up to 5 people and even more can die in a car accident due to break failure because the car owner didn't have money to pay the mechanic to fix and maintain the breaks . In this case, the persons mechanic is the murderer. Market women should give their goods out for free. If anyone dies due to hunger, all the market women around are the murderers. Engineers should offer their services for free to fix potholes on roads. If anyone dies from an accident caused by those potholes, the engineers are the murderers. All building material sellers should also offer their materials for free to fix the road potholes. If anyone dies from an accident because of those potholes, these sellers are part of the murderers too. Instead of you to recommend solutions like compulsory health insurance and ways to recover debt, you're calling doctors names. |

nairaproject:How will you feel as a doctor if your kids are driven out of school, your family is hungry, oxygen and drug suppliers are on your neck to pay them for the oxygen and drugs they supplied you on credit, your staff are on your neck for salaries you're owing, all because patients patients keep receiving treatment without paying for it. How will you feel if you lost your relative after rushing him to the hospital with cash on you but was rejected by the hospital because there are no consumables to use for him (they got exhausted and no money to replace), no oxygen (they're even owing oxygen suppliers already and they've refused to supply until debt is cleared), no power (no money for fuel), staff are not around dues to owed salaries being owed, all because people have been receiving treatment without paying. This issue of absconding without payment doesn't only affect the hospital, it poses a threat to future patients too. The solution is health insurance (Nigerians won't still hear, they'll call it what-if money, they rather insure themselves with the blood of Jesus), or the treatment of debt as a criminal offence by law enforcement agencies. |
nairaproject:If everyone is given treatment and leaves without paying, how will nurses and hospital staff be paid their salaries at the end of the month? Will you tell them "life first" How will you pay oxygen suppliers? Will you tell them "life first" How will you buy fuel to run generator? Will you go to fuel station and tell the attendant "life first" How will you replace used consumables to use for new patients? If only you see how wicked some patients are. I've experienced a case where after a patient was treated without deposit, when it was time for him to pay, he couldn't and wasn't allowed out of the hospital. You know what the relatives did? They hired thugs who invaded the hospital and beat up hospital staff and took their relative out. You think such doctor will treat without deposit again? It's painful to see a family who claimed they don't have money to pay you for the delivery you carried out for their wife, slaughtering a cows a week later for dedication and child naming. Nigerian doctors have had enough |
mozona:closed for what. If the patient absconds without paying his bills, will you pay the hospital on his behalf. |
deltateam:Would you keep quiet if you have nothing to say. Do you know how much tax Americans pay? If Nigerians are made to pay such taxes, you'll be the first to insult buhari for "suffering the common man" Do you know how much Americans pay for health insurance? Do Nigerians take health insurance, they'll rather insure themselves with the blood of Jesus. Take health insurance in Nigeria and no hospital will reject you. Pay taxes in Nigeria like Americans do and our hospitals will get better facilities for it. Nigerians want to get a Mercedes Benz at the price of a bicycle. It cant work. Stop paying taxes and health insurance in the US and let's see whatwill happen. |

They should just ban all these unions. They are the major reason doing business in Nigeria is difficult. All they do is extortion. All the money paid as dues and fines is enough to be declared as profit. |
Isn't this extortion? These unions are one of the major problems of doing business in Nigeria. lalasticala, FOD, puskin , naijacutee, dominique

Here are the requirements apprentice tailors need to meet before graduating as fully certified tailors. Is this not extortion?

donparosky:Good morning sir. God bless you for the work you're doing here, we really appreciate. Please, I have some questions Like how many kegs if oil can I get from mills in a Day? can I get up to 300 If I take kegs of oil to a big market like in Lagos or Abuja, like how many kegs can I conveniently sell in a day? Can I sell up to 300 How do I sell the oil at the market? Do I just park the truck there and buyers will come? Or I have to start shouting? What about those market unions? How do I deal with them? Do you have any idea of how much they charge as described and dues per J5 of oil at the market (you can use any market you're familiar with as case study) When people order oil, do they pay fully before delivery, cash on delivery or part payment on delivery? If I'm to collect any money after delivery, I'm thinking of getting a pos machine so the boys will carry it along and the customer will pay with it, I think it'll be safer than for them to be handling large amounts of cash. What do you think? If I employ boys to help me with these business and they follow a chartered vehicle to deliver oil somewhere, will they follow the vehicle back or they'll have to enter transport How do you recommend I compensate the boys? Salary or commission? Like how much do you recommend? |
diordaves:OK. Thanks. Really informative. More comments are welcome. |

Goodday everyone Please, I need advice on this. Which is cheaper to build between a storey/highrise building and a corresponding number of bungalows. For example, which is cheaper, building 4 different 4 bedroom apartment bungalows or a single 3 storey building with a 4 bedroom apartments on each floor. 10 floor skyscrapper with 2 apartments on each floor or 10 bungalows with 2 apartments in each. Let's neglect the cost of land (assuming one has access to an unlimited amount of free land), which will you go for based on cost, bungalows or storey building. |
DannyDarvay:Pls, do these easy admission universities include top universities like Oxford, Cambridge, UCL |
I'll like to get the opinion of experts in this field on the authenticity of this tomb. |

donparosky:okay.Thank u sir. Please sir, don't be angry at my many questions oo, just trying to get some key info before going into this business What is the average cost of kegs, for used and new. Do I need to buy used kegs or order new kegs from a plastic company. What is the maximum amount of kegs a J5 van can carry How much do they charge to transport per keg, maybe from the south (akwa ibon) to Lagos and abuja. Do I need to follow the vehicle to the north or I just give the driver and they deliver it. What is the average profit margin per keg. (not storage, just buying in South where it's made and cheap and selling up north) Thank u very much sir as I await ur reply. And once again, thank u for the good work you're doing here. may God bless u and ur family sir |

You will never enjoy peace and fruit of your fraudulent ways. Every yahoo boy, their friends and family in support of their fraudulent activities will die a miserable death.
