The auxiliary matron who is equal to a doctor minus surgery. She and her cohorts will be crying blood right now, maybe she's even dead from a heart attack or stroke she got upon hearing this news. I feel her pain, her high hopes of becoming a consultant auxiliary nurse where heartlessly dashed, just like that, chai, this is wickedness, WAEC crushed her dreams of study medicine, now NMA/FG have dashed her hopes of been called consultant and earning like doctors.

Amarabae, if u like, shout from now till next 2000 years, doctors will always head you and receive far more than you, it was so before you were born and it will continue to be so. Be expecting a pay rise for doctors soon. If you don't like it, go and buy jamb form and apply for MBBS or better still, you can jump into the lagoon.

I sympathize with you Amarabae, better start preparing to resume work tomorrow and take orders from the doctors, even medical students . Hope the shame won't kill you, just try and bear it. It's a pity.

Rather if you must dream, I urge you instead to dream in the night so that you will perceive reality better.In the recent history of health sector, this is a complete lockdown. like one US President once said, when injustice becomes a law and modus operandi, resistance and civil disobedience become the order of the day. Current crop of JOHESU are saying enough is enough to the injustice and rot in the NMA led health sector which is among the worst in the globe.

For example, if johesu salary is supposed to be N10m, tell the doctors to do their work and this N10M will be shared amongst them. The hospital will run at 150%.
Pathologists will takeover the lab.
200/300l medical students will takeover nurses.
100l medical students will takeover the pharmacists. (even wassce holder can takeover).
If traditional practitioners are doing physiotherapist work, then doctors can do it as well.
Aboki is already doing optometrist work.
Cleaners and gatemen can be employed on contract. Even patient relatives will be glad to volunteer

It's just a matter of time, when hunger wan finish johesu, no-one will tell them it's time to call of the strike. JOHESU will cry blood when doctors salaries are once again increased later this year.

In medicine, in many parts of the world especially Nigeria no one cam tell whether thete is real value in the cost of services. Noone lnows how much things should really cost, services are arbritrarily priced and overpriced because a man in pain or at the foothills of death wiil do all he can and beyond to get relief.

Simply because new technology is introdiced that produces a better product does not and should not necessarily mean the astronomical difference in price charged for such services and there should be a body in Nigeria that modulates these. Right now it is left to the profession to charge what they want, hoe they want, backed by a very powerful union in the NMA. Some body should speak for the citizens.

I 'm aware of the unusually high costs of some medical imaging services in Nigeria and often wonder what the basis is and criteria for such. Who sets and approves these sums in general, but I understand the health business is a 'sellers' game and as they say, dead men tell no tales, but should it be.

do you think the equipment comes cheap, the expertise nko. Should someone buy MRI machine for 50 million and be charging N1000 per scan.

Doctors should not be the only ones heading the Units. Why will the doctors be the heads of all Federal Medical centres? You will see a small boy Doctor who left school barely 5 years ago will be controlling a senior matron Nurse who has been working for 30 year with Masters Degree in Nursing. Johesu is right on that! Being a doctor is by choice, many people did not want to be doctors from the outset of their lives, they wants to Medical scientist, pharmacist, Nurse, Radiologist, etc. Must everybody be doctor to head a unit?

dont bother yourself with amarabae. Everyone knows she's just a frustrated being who has dedicated her miserable life to insulting and fighting doctors. She wanted to study medicine but unfortunately couldn't pass WASSCE. In order to achieve something close to her dreams, she proceeded to one maternity home where she qualified as an Auxiliary Nurse. It's a shame shes here denying her profession as posing as a university nurse. I don't pity her, it's her husband I pity, she has made it her career to sit at home and be a liability to d husband and d whole family while channeling her energy to insulting and fighting doctors. That's why u see her on NL at odd hours looking for any opportunity to pour out her frustrations on doctors. Go through all her posts and you'll see they are all targeted at doctors while posing as d nurse that she isn't. Please, don't take her seriously and don't be angry at her, you know that when u carry so much hatred, bitterness and envy, it reduces quality of her mental faculties. Have it in mind that many are mad, but few are roaming. Amarabae is not roaming yet, but she will soon.

Seems they weren't allowed to lock pharmacy, lab and other vital equipment hence their strike is innefective over there. When hunger sets in, they will start suspending strike in some LGAs.

what do you know? in case u don't know nurse's and pharmacist have be the people covering for all the incompetent doc. we have in this country.. useless doctors that doesn't know how to prescribe common drugs...pharmacist and nurse's have be correcting their wrong proscriptions...they are just b over hype.. one doctor that almost terminated my sister's pregnancy by proscribing indocid for one month and two weeks old ...it was a pharmacist that safe her..

that thread opened on here some years back by a nairalander who almost died after taking a pharmacists prescription but was saved by the doctor readily comes to mind. Let me find the link.

My prayer for you is that when you or your close relatives urgently need a doctor, you will see none, rather, you will see pharmacist and nurses.

Johesu is easier to replace, with the hundreds of nursing schools in the country, our pharmacists are willing to kill to leaving their pharmaceutical marketing jobs to take dispensing jobs at govt. hospitals, our universities produce thousands of lab scientists yearly, for every one doctor produced, more than 7 lab scientist are produced, cleaners and gatemen are everywhere.

if not for the division of labour what you said they should do is nothing but for surgeries. everything that concerns internal medicine and other investigations can be done smoothly by pharmacists. There are so many things a pharm is trained to do but couldn't cos of job description and you know that too.
I dear the government to open consulting rooms for pharmacist's should the NMA go on strike. Only then will the government, policy makers and the public get to know they've been hoodwinked by the NMA all the while. With the proliferation of private medical laboratories, radiodiagnostic/scanning labs the NMAs aggression is been checked at the door. The health field is one that is evolving continously and the NMA should accept the bitter fact that the dispensers of yesterday are today's clinicians. Already, governments and policy makers are been lobbied to expand the scope of pharmacy practice as we're ever ready to assume more roles and responsibilities...This is becoming the norm already across the globe before someone will come to preach international best practices. Across the world and even in the Asian subcontinent health care is all about collaboration and team work with the dr leading the clinical team not the administrative head of the hospitals unlike what we have here. anyone with the requisite knowledge, skills and ability can lead the hospital not necessarily drs or health workers...This i think is the reason for their success in health care.

Doctor writes prescription, u read it and bring it off the shelf, finish. You people know that if the pharmacist is left open, your strike will be ineffective, same with lab scientists who lock that labs and nurses who hide hospital equipment, sometime hospital security even lock consulting rooms. Without all these, johesu strike will be ineffective, no-one will even notice their absence.

Your mates in abroad are manufacturing drugs and doing groundbreaking research, you are here dragging salary with doctors and dispensing drugs made by your mates in China and India. And don't come with that lie of mentioning Nigerian pharmaceuticals, what they do is market drugs produced abroad, more than 95% of our drugs are imported, the remaining 5% have majority of their ingredients imported. It's a pity. Nigerian pharmacists ought to be ashamed of themselves.

FYI, the government knows what to do, they are just handling u pple with kids gloves. When the time comes and ur pple remain foolishly adamant, all striking workers will be sacked and made to return hospital property such as the pharmacy and lab keys they took. Those that fail to do this will be charged to court and prosecuted. The government will then advertise for their vacancies, you'll be surprised at how fast they'll be replaced.

yes, and let everyone have the same job description, lab scientist should manage patients which they run tests for, nurses should do surgery, maybe cleaners can handle chemotherapy. Doctors will run shifts and no more exams. A gateman should be able to become a CMD or professor of neurosurgery with his WASSCE. Let's see what will happen. Doctors will jejely be waiting for their patients in their private hospitals.

Your reply has exposed that all you have for doctors is hatred and envy and you just want to pull them down by all means. It's a crime for doctors to earn higher than nurses but it's okay when nurses earn higher than cleaners.

Rubbish, why do fresh nurses enter service on a level higher than a cleaner that has spent more than 8 years in service.
