President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday returned to Nigeria after ten days trip to the United Kingdom.

The presidential jet touched down at about 6.20pm on Sunday, at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja.

On his return to Nigeria, the President said he is ready to settle down and swear in the new cabinet.

He, however, refused to comment on those who will make his next cabinet.

Buhari said this while fielding questions from reporters.

A reporter asked him, “What kind of people will make your next cabinet?” and he responded: “I won’t tell you.

Six suspects in possession of poisonous cow skin, famously known as ponmo have been arrested by Lagos State Police Command. The six suspects were apprehended on Sunday 5th of May at about 5am.

According to Lagos State Police Spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday in Lagos that the suspects were arrested following a police tip-off.

“On May 5, at about 5 a.m, acting on the strength of information from a credible source that a truckload of cow skins, popularly called ‘ponmo’, suspected to be poisonous were heaped in a warehouse at No. 9, College road, Igando.

“A team of Police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer Igando, mobilised to the scene.

“The huge pillage and pyramid of poisonous ponmo and the chemicals used in the preservation of the cow skins were recovered.

“One TATA Truck with registration number AKD-375-XB which was used in conveying the goods was impounded

“Officials of Lagos State Ministry of Health were contacted and after due examination, the cow skins were confirmed to be poisonous and not fit for human consumption.





“Six suspects Adelowo Yinka 50, Olawumi Onabanjo 40, Omowumi Wasiu 43, Adeshokan Taiwo 43, Iyabo Oluwa 38 and Taye Kazeem 40yrs were arrested in connection with the case.’’

It wa also added that the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, CP Zubairu Muazu mni assured Lagosians that the Command will continue to protect life and property of the people.

Muazu also assured that the command would ensure the preservation of public health and safety as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source and destinations of those poisonous food items, and suspects will be charged to court,’’ he said.

1 Nigerian fraudster killed, 7 arrested during a police raid in Philippines

A Nigerian man was, yesterday, shot dead while 7 others were arrested when police raided an alleged online ‘love scam’ den in Imus, Cavite.

The arrested suspects are identified as Kenneth Chukwu, Ikenna Dickson Okalla, Chukwuma George Adibe, Chiboy Stanley Agbasi, Dim Remedios, Abas Kashmir and Uba Living.

The suspect killed has been identified as Orisakwe Ifeanyi Emmanuel. The
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) anti-cybercrime agents, armed with a court search warrant, swooped on the suspects’ hideout.

The NBI’s report says that during the raid, the now-dead suspect grabbed a pistol and attempted to shoot at officers. .

After being subdued, the official account says, he then tried to grab a hand grenade, prompting the agents to fire at him. Comrade Benson Efeotor, a civil servant working with the Delta State Ministry of Finance (Project E-Delta), has returned the sum of N53,121,650, recently erroneously paid into his account by the state government.

In an interview with newsmen, Efeotor said, “I returned the money because I don’t have such money in my bank account.” He added that anyone who will say he was wrong for returning the money to the government is a “thief.”

However, on May Day, he was rewarded with a brand new car, courtesy of the Delta State government.

EFCC arrests 37 Yahoo boys, seizes 25 exotic cars in Imo state - Photos

The South-East Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The arrest followed a raid on some targeted residences in Okwu Urata, Aladinma and Egbu areas.

The Commission’s action followed intelligence report which pointed that the suspects were living lavish lifestyles without any known means of livelihood, alleging further that they specialize in defrauding unsuspecting victims, through the internet.

Items which included laptop computers, 25 five exotic cars, which include several brands of Mercedez-Benz, Lexus,Toyota and expensive mobile phones, were recovered.

Speaking on the development on Thursday, the Zonal Head, Usman Imam, who said the exercise was in line with the Commission’s mandate, decried the high rate of cybercrime in the zone which he blamed on the erosion and breakdown of country’s values.

“It is true that no society has been able to totally eradicate crime, but we are ready at least to reduce it to the barest minimum and it appears that this cybercrime is one of the challenges of our time, which the EFCC is willing to face drastically.

“What is the business of a university student, a new graduate or youth corper looking for money to buy a car of N10 million? Obviously, this is rushing life and a collapse of our positive value system where people rarely want to start from a humble beginning,” Usman added.

He lamented that if nothing was done, the country’s leadership could be jeopardized as many youths involved in cybercrimes are expected to take up leadership positions in the future.

Hikmat Gbadamosi, 100 Level Chemical Engineering student of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has died of apparent suicide after a long-standing battle with depression.

It was reported that Late Hikmat was found dead in her room, yesterday, April 29.

According to her best friend, the deceased had been battling a medical condition since birth and the resulting pain sent her into depression.

She is assumed to have consumed two bottles of a poisonous substance on Saturday and was only discovered on Monday after her best friend mobilized classmates to her room to know why she didn’t show up in school for a test they had yesterday.

Detectives from Ondo State Police Command are on the trail of suspected ritualists who killed a 60-year-old woman with hunchback. The police are also on the trail of the woman’s son, who colluded with the kidnappers after being paid N7million.

The woman identified as Mrs. Rukayat Abodunde, was abducted by two gunmen who came to her home in Ayetoro Street in Ondo town, pretending to have come to buy fish from her, according to The Nation.

The abduction happened around 10 p.m, the paper said, without indicating the actual date of the incident.

The report said the suspected kidnappers reappeared few days after the abduction of the woman to demand refund of N7m from his son, after they discovered that the hunchback was not natural, but caused by an accident.

The woman appeared to have been killed and the son is also on the run.

Police spokesman, Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident.

He added that the two suspected kidnappers invaded the home of the victim and whisked her away.

According to him, “the incident was reported at the police station by one Omotola Oseyemi and detectives swung into action to ensure the release of the abducted woman.

“They interrogated the people in the area but members of the family were not showing enough interest in the disappearance of the woman.”

Saudi Arabian authorities have revealed that at least 23 Nigerians are currently on the death row in Saudi Arabia for drug-related offences and may executed anytime from now.

In a report, The Nation newspaper said the Nigerians were convicted for contravening the narcotic and psychotropic substances control law, which is punishable by death.

They were said to have been arrested between 2016 and 2017 at King Abdul-Aziz International Airport, Jeddah and Prince Muhammad bin Abdu- Aziz International Airport, Madinah having concealed the banned substances in their rectums, the Saudi document revealed.

The Sokoto State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Philip Enaberue, has described the late corps member, The Fortune-Ihieche, as a vibrant and patriotic young man.

Enaberue told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday at the orientation camp in Wamakko Local Government Area of the state that the deceased was a dedicated and most popular corps member in the camp.

Nnamdi Kanu reveals ‘only way’ Atiku can defeat Buhari in court, reclaim his stolen mandate

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed the only way the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, can reclaim his allegedly stolen mandate to lead Nigeria.

Air force officers involved in the fight against insurgency suffered a setback as the rotor of a helicopter killed an air marshal simply identified as Umar.

An airman, who witnessed the tragic incident, told newsmen that it happened at Bama in Borno state on Saturday evening. The aircraft was said to have developed a fault. The deceased, who was the co-pilot, had gone to the pick his bags and on his way back, he passed through the side of the rotor which was functioning.

“Immediately his head was chopped off. The aircraft has been recovered and taken back to the air base. No damage was found the on tail rotor,” the source said.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred around 4pm on Satirday. The source said family members of the deceased have been informed while the burial arrangement was on as of the time this report was filed.

A corps member serving in Calabar was allegedly sprayed with tear gas by the Nigerian police because he asked INEC to pay him for the services he rendered as an adhoc staff during the last elections.

In a video shared online, the corps member is seen being led by a woman because he couldn't see. His eyes were shut due to the tear gas that had been sprayed on his face.

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday arrested two suspects in connection to the killing of a medical graduate of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Dr. Stephen Urueye, at Idi Araba area of the state.

Stephen Urueye was reportedly stabbed to death at the gate of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, on Thursday, just a day after having his convocation.

His death has since led to an outcry by students and doctors at LUTH, who protested in demand for justice

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to release the result of the February 23, 2019 National Assembly election for the Ajeromi-Ifelodum Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

The Justice Bello Kawu-led court also barred INEC from conducting a re-run poll for the constituency until the results already announced at the various polling units and collated alongside the result of the presidential election are declared in accordance with the extant provision of section 69 and 71 of the Electoral Act 2010.

Dr. Urueye Stephen aka Sarutobi, a House Officer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, has died after being stabbed by some robbers.

The robbers had stormed Idi Araba, Lagos, last night and accosted him near LUTH, stabbing him in the process.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has not registered FanYogo Gin and Ginger drink in Nigeria.

Its Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, made the clarification on Thursday in Abuja.

Adeyeye said that the drink, which contained 12.5 per cent alcohol, and being circulated in the social media, was not a product of Fan Milk Plc.

“NAFDAC has carried out a thorough investigation at the facility of Fan Milk Plc.

A 42-year-old newspaper vendor, simply identified as Amaechi, has committed suicide in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

The deceased was seen dangling on a rope tied to his ceiling fan in his apartment today, an indication that he allegedly hanged himself.

It was learnt that the deceased was last seen on Monday.

An eyewitness said the deceased, who is a native of Kwale community said nobody knew when he returned back to the house

The eyewitness said, “We never knew he had hung himself in his room.

“It was only this morning when we were beginning to inhale some foul odour and people has been coming to ask of him that we suspected foul play.”






Neighbours described the deceased as a “withdrawn person” who hardly interacted with people.

“He was much of a mystery man; nobody knew much about him. We only know him as Amaechi, not even his landlord knows his other name.

“He was not known with any friend or wife, the only family known with him was that his older brother, who died last year and since he died, we learned his family moved back to Kwale.”

Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Orisewejie Chuks said he was also informed of the development, but could not immediately lay hands on details as at the time he was reached for comments.

Ex-Niger Delta militants under the aegis of Niger Delta Ken Saro Wiwa Adaka Boro Biafra Freedom Fighters, have pleaded with the United Nations, UN, and the international community to compel the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian government to allow the people of Biafra go.

According to the ex-militants, the only way to stop the agitation for Biafra was to allow Ndigbo have their own country.

Chief Jasper Emmanuel, the leader of the group, made the call in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

He noted that the actualisation of Biafra Republic could not be suppressed or denied as everybody had right to freely express his mind on where to belong.

Emmanuel said, “all ex-agitators and militants must come together to support and agitate for the actualisation of Biafra Republic as that would give the Niger Delta region the tonic for rapid socio-economic development which had eluded the region for decades.

“We are seriously working with all necessary stakeholders and Biafra agitation groups within and outside the country to actualise the dream of the Biafra Republic where the people can be free in a country they can call their own.

The presidency on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise that governance would not take the back seat in spite of his busy campaign schedules across Nigeria ahead of the presidential election was fulfilled.

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, in a statement, listed the administration’s achievements in the last six months.

The release reads: “Minimum Wage: January 9, 2019: President Buhari inaugurated the Presidential Technical Advisory Committee on the Implementation of the National Minimum Wage (PTAC), with a mandate to advise the Federal Government on how best to fund, in a sustained manner, the additional costs of implementing the imminent increase in the National Minimum Wage.

The Committee, chaired by Mr. Bismarck Rewane, submitted its report on Monday, March 25, 2019.

Also in January 2019, President Buhari submitted a National Minimum Wage Amendment Bill to the National Assembly for passage, following the approval of the National Council of State. The Bill is now awaiting presidential assent.

2. FINANCING GOVERNMENT

January 23, 2019: The Strategic Revenue Growth Initiatives (SRGI) programme of the Federal Government was launched by Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, in Abuja

SRGI is built on three (3) main planks:

Achieve sustainability in revenue generation
Identify new and enhance the enforcement of existing revenue streams
Achieve cohesion in the revenue ecosystem (people and tools).

The Steering Committee of the SRGI, with membership drawn from all the major revenue-generating agencies, held its inaugural meeting on February 12, 2019.

3. FINANCING INFRASTRUCTURE

January 25, 2019: President Buhari signed Executive Order 007 of 2019: The Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme.

Through this Scheme, companies that are willing and able to spend their own funds on constructing roads to their factories or farms, will recover their construction costs by paying reduced taxes, over a period of time.

In the first phase, 19 Eligible Road Projects are to be undertaken by 6 leading manufacturing and construction firms, in 11 States, and in each of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, as follows:

The Companies: Dangote Industries Limited; Lafarge Africa Plc; Unilever Nigeria Plc; Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc; Nigeria LNG Limited; and China Road and Bridge Corporation Nigeria Limited.

The Roads: a) Construction of Ashaka-Bajoga Highway in Gombe State;

b) Reconstruction of Dikwa-Gambaru-Ngala Road in Borno State;

c) Reconstruction of Bama-Banki Road in Borno State;

d) Rehabilitation of Sharada Road in Kano State;

e) Rehabilitation of Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway / Bypass, in Kaduna State;

f) Reconstruction of Birnin Gwari Expressway – Road in Kaduna State;

g) Reconstruction of Birnin Gwari – Dansadau Road in Kaduna State;

4. CONSUMER PROTECTION

The Federal government has approved the renaming of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA, to Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki with immediate effect. Ekwueme who was the first elected Vice-President of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983, died in November 2017.

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has seized a boat and arrested its operator for ferrying 12 secondary school children on Lagos lagoon without life jackets.

The General Manager, Lagos Office, Muazu Sambo, said the children were going from Takwa Bay to Osborne for school events on one of the busiest routes in Lagos.

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force), on Monday, arrested two suspects for impersonating officers of the agency and extorting N15,000 from a motorist at Ojota.

The suspects are Ademola Oyegunwa, 40, and Olaogun Adamson, 48. Task Force chairman, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects presented themselves as Task Force officers and arrested a motorist for alleged traffic obstruction by Ojota bus-stop.

Mike Ezeuruonye angrily confronted a vendor who was selling pirated copies of movies in traffic.

In a video shared online, the actor is seen collecting the CD of the movie 'Chief Daddy' from the vendor and refusing to give it back.

The vendor explained that he's just selling the movies to make enough money to feed. But Mike was not appeased and he threatened to park his car and further confront the vendor.

Joshua Litza, a Wisconsin man is likely to serve up to seven and a half years in prison if convicted on animal cruelty charges after police found four dead cows on his farm and other emaciated animals with bones jutting from their flanks.

Litza, 19, is set to appear in court on April 8 after he was arrested on Friday and charged with two counts of intentionally failing to provide food to animals and four counts of failing to timely dispose of an animal carcass after officials say he neglected his father’s cattle that he was supposed to be tending to.

According to The Wausau Daily Herald, a Marathon County sheriff’s deputy was responding to a call of cattle blocking a roadway in the town of Norrie. Once there, the officer reportedly noticed that some of the cows were so thin that their bones were protruding. He also discovered four carcasses of dead cows.

Authorities eventually found out that the animals belonged to Litza, who was supposed to be caring for them while his father, 57-year-old John Litza, was away.
