Congrats to Southern Sudan for been free Northern Sudan(Sharia Country) and terrorist people after the genocide in Darfur that claimed over 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people.Very soon a New Southern Nigeria will emerge and be free from terrorist Northern Nigeria, only time will tell. Congarts Southern Sudan!!!! |
I doubt if she will successed because the National Assembly and Governors will frustrated any reasonable reform she may want to introduce.Nigeria is a doomed country and not worth dying for. |
Dauchman:Maybe Bankole should have been the best candidate. |
kcswat:I have always seen him (ahj haram) as a terrorist agent and he should be on the terrorist watch list in Nigeria.SSS take note!!! |
greateros:It seems you are foreigner in Nigeria. You need to first study the history of Nigeria and understand the social, cultural and religious dynamics before you make baseless comment. |
The author of this letter is assumed to be southern by his name(Ambassador Abdulrazaq Oyebanji Hamzat) who is also not considered as true Muslim by his northern fellow counterpart because of his liberal views on what Islam is all about.A northern Muslim is a conservative and understands Islam differently from a southern Muslim. Therefore this letter is only relevant in the south and total nonsense in the north. |
Walmart will not make any difference in Nigeria retail markets in terms of low pricing.Their products are cheap because 80% of their products are Made in China and very low in quality.Am very sure big markets in Lagos,Aba and Onitsha will still sale cheaper than Walmart because of their low overhead cost but Walmart overhead will be high(energy cost) and higher pricing. |
President Goodluck Jonathan has assured that Nigeria will soon become one of the developed countries of the world, with emphasis placed on qualitative education and steady power supply, while assuring that the nation will be transformed. He also stated that he directed that there must be entrepreneurial studies in Nigerian universities, in order to have better and well-equipped graduates, who would contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development. President Jonathan, who was represented by his deputy, Namadi Sambo, stated these yesterday at the 27th Convocation of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State. The best graduating student, Miss Dieteke Oke, with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CPGA) of 4.68, from the Department of Guidance and Counselling, was offered automatic employment at Diamond Bank, by its Managing Director, Dr. Alex Otti, who was in attendance. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/9803-nigeria-will-soon-be-one-of-the-developed-countries-in-the-world-president-jonathan.html Oke, in her speech, on behalf of the graduands, urged President Jonathan to give jobs to graduates and employment opportunities and further studies for the youths, as leaders of tomorrow. Also in attendance at the colourful event were a former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme; the Governor of Rivers State State, Rotimi Amaechi, and his counterpart from Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, both alumni of UNIPORT. Others were Acting National Chairman of People Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Mohammed Bello; former Chairman of Board of Trustees of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih; former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia and the 19th President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. O.C.J. Okocha, SAN, among other dignitaries. At the launch of UNIPORT’s N5 billion endowment fund and Dame Patience Jonathan’s Centre for Gender Studies and Women Development in the university, a total of N590 million was raised. Jonathan, in his address, said: "This (yesterday) morning, I asked the Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT (Prof. Joseph Ajienka) to tell me what the needs of the university are and he said it is power (electricity), I told him that power has been taken care of by this administration and we will soon have steady power supply throughout Nigeria. "Rapid progress will be made in the Nigerian education sector. There is need for good education in the country. The policy of this administration is education, education and education. "Nine more federal universities were established by this administration, to bridge the education gap. I have also approved, through the ETF, the sum of N3 billion to be expended in UNIPORT." Jonathan further charged the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education, to pursue the education road-map. He noted that there was the need to reward honesty and hardwork, stressing that the quality of higher education must be increased. The President expressed displeasure over the attitude of the graduands, who almost all left the convocation arena, before he presented his address. He then lauded UNIPORT’s vice-chancellor for his remarkable achievements in the university in just one year, especially his dynamism and introduction of policies and programmes. The crowd at UNIPORT was unprecedented, as there were many centres of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB’s) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE) there, coupled with Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and others who attended the convocation. Honourary doctoral degrees were awarded five eminent Nigerians, comprising the President’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan; a renowned educationist and novelist, Chief Elechi Amadi; the President of African Business Round-Table, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; a former Executive Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Stanley Lawson and a legal luminary, Chief Jacob Nwokolo. They were honoured in recognition of their quality contributions to national development and service to humanity. Their recognitions were approved by UNIPORT’s Senate, solely on the basis of merit, with each of the recipients recording verifiable achievements that could easily pass all measures of merit, anywhere in the world. Responding on behalf of five eminent Nigerians, the President’s wife urged UNIPORT’s authorities to put in place gender friendly policies, while lauding the initiative of making the institution an entrepreneurial university. For the 2009/2010 session, a total of 7,509 students graduated, with 16 having first class honours. The 7th Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, who is the first alumnus and first engineer to become VC, earlier in his address, entitled: "The New UNIPORT: The Making of an Entrepreneurial University," said plans had been initiated to establish a Technology Park and an Arts Village, where research would meet business and enterprise. To lay the foundation for an entrepreneurial university, he said the institution was establishing academic structures and infrastructure for research and development, as well as partnerships between industries, faculties and institutes. Ajienka reiterated that the national strategic Vision 20: 2020 could only be achieved through education, stressing that by 2020, Nigerian universities should be ranked among the best 20 universities in Africa and 200 universities in the world. He said: "In line with the Nigerian Content Bill of 2010, universities offering Petroleum Engineering should be adopted by oil and gas companies in their areas of operatio "The Nigerian Content Policy should not be limited to the oil and gas industry alone. It should be extended to all industries if we are to effectively grow our economy. "It should be mandatory for all industries to contribute tax-deductible research funds and partner with universities in their areas of operation. "Universities should become centres of excellence in strategic areas of competitive advantage and move to the next level of becoming entrepreneurial universities. We should also deliberately encourage a policy of brain gain." Ajienka, who is the first petroleum engineer to be appointed vice-chancellor in any Nigerian university, further described President Jonathan as a worthy ambassador, as the first alumnus of UNIPORT to become its visitor. |
This is the turning point on the frustration Nigerians are going through on daily bases and pretending that nothing is happening. The suicide bomb that took place today has open a new chapter on what to expect in weeks and months to come.I cry for Nigerians!!! |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday said that he will be the first victim if a revolution happens in Nigeria due to threat of unemployment and rising restiveness by youths as is currently happening in some North African and Arab countries. Obasanjo gave the insight to world leaders, employers and labour leaders as a panellist in a meeting on building sustainable societies in the ongoing 100th Session of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) holding in Geneva, Switzerland. The debate was organised by ‘Club de Madrid’ an independent non-profit organization composed of 80 democratic former presidents and prime ministers from 56 different countries. The ex-president also declared that former Ghanaian President John Kuffuor and other African leaders will have no hidden place if the revolution knocks at his doorstep. John Kuffour, also a member of Club de Madrid together with other ex leaders was at the debate. Though he did not state why he will be the first victim in Nigeria, Obasanjo said that if the unemployment situation in African countries is allowed to continue and not checked, the revolution that would take place will be more severe than what is being witnessed in the Middle East. “I want to underline this as a situation that must signal red alert for us in Africa, I am worried, I am apprehensive about unemployment in our continent, it is not being taken as seriously as it should be, I give the example of my own country Nigeria; we now have 120 universities. “When I was growing up and I had to go to university, there was only one university in Nigeria. Today, 120; there are other tertiary institutions; polytechnics, colleges of education, when you take all of them together they are more than 200, much more than 200. “If you count that they are graduating about 3000 every year and some are doing more than that for one tertiary institution. You have well over 600, 000. We are not creating 100, 000 jobs every year for graduates of our tertiary institutions; that is a tinder box on which we are all sitting and the fuse can be ignited anytime,” he said Speaking on social justice, he said “can we really have social justice with 50 percent of citizens of a country being unemployed or being under employed? Can you really have social justice in a situation where democracy, rule of law and popular participation are absent? Obviously the answer will be no.” http://www.dailytrust.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=21080:ill-be-the-first-victim-of-revolution-in-nigeria-obasanjo&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8 |
In a statement released on Sunday, Mr Bankole issued the first authoritative confirmation of an intimidating payroll which the outgoing lawmakers approved for themselves alongside the Senate in 2010. Mr Bankole said the loan was not a personal facility but was sourced on the directive of the House to foot the large increment in quarterly allowances approved for each member. He said the directive was reached by a 37-member committee and endorsed by an executive session of the house. However, as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively, Mr Bankole and Usman Nafada, were not part of the proceeds from the loan since they already earned a whopping N100 million and N80 million quarterly each, the statement signed by Media Aide to Mr Bankole, Idowu Bakare said. "Before the increment quarterly allowance to the office of the Speaker was N100million while his deputy received N80 million. The loan in question was distributed among other principal officers and the remaining members of the House," the statement read. All feed fat In the distribution as shown in the statement, Mr Bankole and Mr Nafada's allowances remained at their initial N100 million and N80 million respectively, while those of the House Leaders rose from N46 million to N60 million. The Deputy Leader took N57 million instead of the former N43 million while the Chief Whip took N55 million instead of the initial N41 million. The deputy Whip received N54.5 million instead of N40.5 million and the Minority Whip took N50 million from N36 million. Other members, including the members of the so-called Progressives, led by Dino Melaye, who claimed the loan was not known to the House, collected N42 million instead of N28 million. In all, the differential of N14 million each for the 360 members, except for the Speaker and the Deputy, accounted for N5.012 billion and for two quarters which the loans were drawn, the amount became N10.024 billion with interest, the former speaker claimed. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5711346-146/story.csp |
