frosbel:America is not a religious country as you claimed.80% of Americans don't go church even on Sunday.The very few who go to church are old people and is very difficult to see most Americans discuss religion the way Nigerians do(miracle healing,deliverance,prosperity,monthly night vigil ect). I don't see religion solving the problems in Africa in 100 years from now. |

If you want statistics on the level of illiteracy in the North just take a trip to the streets of Kano or Kaduna and you will get it first hand(In statistics class it is called primary source) or take a look at number of enrollment for Jamb and WAEC each year and you will also get it second hand(In statistics class it is called secondary source) Stop making Northern think they get away from any senseless killing of Southerners in the North.It is time every Southerners in the North should be ready to defend themselves from Alimajiri's both night and day. |

Jonathan Causing North-south Division – Cpc The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, yesterday accused President Goodluck Jonathan of stoking ethnic division in the country, faulting his alleged claim and appreciation of Igbo votes during the presidential elections. The party in a statement expressed concern that under the Jonathan presidency that the North-South had become more pronounced. The party’s statement conveyed through its national publicity secretary, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin was in reaction to reported comments made by the President during the visit of a delegation of South East Leaders to the State House, Abuja on Monday, September 12, 2011. President Jonathan according to the statement was reported to have told the delegation, inter-alia, “We thank you for the support you gave and please convey our appreciation to our brothers and sisters back home. We also know that even from outside the South East, one group of people that gave us most of the votes we have in some of the states in the North are Igbo.” Reacting, the CPC said: “In CPC, we wish to alert the nation not to look elsewhere for the cause of the excessive overheating of the polity. Mr. Labaran Maku, Minister of Information, in Abuja, said if care was not taken, the North will be left behind while the nation moves forward. BY EMMANUEL AZIKEN, Political Editor LAGOS— FORMER Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), allegedly lured former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar into a political battle with ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo prior to the 2007 general election, the United States diplomatic mission in Nigeria was quoted to have reported in a dispatch to the States Department. While allegedly secretly encouraging Atiku into a political spat with Obasanjo, Babangida was also at the same time allegedly hobnobbing with Obasanjo with the hope of getting his endorsement for the 2007 presidential contest, according to the United States cable obtained by Wikileaks and downloaded to the internet. The revelations were the outcome of interactions between US Consul-General in Nigeria at that time, Mr. Brian L. Browne and notable political stakeholders in the country in that period. Among those in contact with the US senior diplomat was Prof. Ukandi Damachi, allegedly a close confidant of Gen. Babangida and a former staff of the University of Lagos now into private business. Damachi was, yesterday, said to be out of the country to Geneva, Switzerland. Associates of Babangida and Atiku preferred not to enter the fray yesterday following the new political unity that was forged between the two men ahead of the 2011 presidential election. The cables arose from the US mission’s observations on the political future of Atiku which the US diplomat reported as dimming on the basis of his troubles with then President Obasanjo. The leaked American cables disclosed how pro-Obasanjo elements in the administration in 2005 allegedly looked with expectation towards the investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, FBI, into the alleged relationship between Atiku and US Congressman William Jefferson with the hope that the investigations would indict Atiku. In his distress, Atiku, according to the cables, allegedly sought alliance with Babangida, who in turn was said to have promised to secretly support Atiku while at the same time allegedly hobnobbing with Obasanjo with the alleged intention of getting political mileage from the latter. Browne for reasons 1.4(b) and (d). 1. (S) Summary. A long-standing consulate contact said pro-Obasanjo hardliners in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were eagerly waiting information from the FBI they hoped would incriminate Vice-President Atiku. In his political distress, Atiku is reaching out to former head-of-state Ibrahim Babangida (IBB). The contact, who is close to Babangida, said this is the type of situation in which Babangida thrives. Babangida will secretly support Atiku while informing Obasanjo of some of what Atiku is up to —this way hoping to score points with the President. End Summary. 2. (S) In a September 1 meeting with the Consul- General, Professor Ukandi Damachi opined the PDP appeared to be moving up its timeline from early next year to right now to dump VP Atiku. He said Obasanjo loyalists believe the FBI’s investigation of Congressman Jefferson will unearth evidence of misconduct by VP Atiku. The rumour circulating among the political elite is that the USG will come down hard on Atiku’s wife, purportedly a U.S. citizen, for tax evasion. This should be enough to finish Atiku, Damachi smiled. 3. (S) Atiku has been making overtures to former head-of-state Babangida, Damachi’s political boss. Atiku wants to gather anti-Obasanjo allies to form a new political alliance of political heavyweights such as himself and IBB. Of course, IBB’s strategem is not as coarse and is more Machiavellian than Atiku’s. Damachi said IBB will likely give Atiku assurances of support in hopes of enticing Atiku into battling Obasanjo. Simultaneously, IBB will also keep his lines open to Obasanjo, informing him of some of Atiku’s plans. IBB hopes to keep Obasanjo and Atiku feuding so that they enervate themselves. At the same time, IBB figures he can better position himself in Obasanjo’s future political calculations if he is seen as helping Obasanjo by feeding him information on Atiku. Damachi said IBB would begin to perfect this strategy the weekend of September 2-3 when most of the Northern elite, including Atiku, would be attending a series of weddings in Kano. IBB, Damachi said, would encourage Atiku to start his own party as a way of not allowing Obasanjo to bury him and as a way of remaining in the hunt for 2007. Comment 4. (C) With Atiku under siege, IBB feels he has more room to manoeuver. IBB’s instincts are correct but he overestimates his ability to spin this situation to his liking. Both Atiku and Obasanjo are aware of IBB’s legerdemain and will not be taken by his expressions of support. Thus, while IBB may enjoy the gamesmanship of political intrigue, his vaunted mastery of the craft has actually restricted his ability to act effectively and will unlikely advance his position appreciably. A newly-released Wikileaks cable has identified a training camp lead by religious extremists in Kano state, where Farouk Abdulmutallab, known as the “underwear bomber,” who unsuccessfully plotted to take down Northwest Airlines from Amsterdam to Detroit, may have received training. The names of the alleged camp directors - Yakubu I. Kano, Ibrahim Maigari Ahmadu, and Gambo Othman (aka Dawoud) -- were included in a text message sent to U.S. embassy staff by cell phone by Mahmood Halilu Chiroma, a reputed brother-in-law of Gen. Buhari. Halilu Chiroma’s text message was sent two days after the attempted aircraft bombing in Detroit, Michigan, on Christmas Day two years ago. The text message revealed how extremism was being nurtured by the group in Kaduna, and said the trio hid their operations under the guise of a women’s charity group called “Al ihsan summer Madarasa,” which targeted children of the elite who studied outside Kaduna. When such students returned to their privileged GRA homes in Kaduna on holidays, “they organize them and hypnotize the brilliant ones by teaching them Islamic extremism,” the writer of the cable said. The fundamentalist group even targeted the daughter of General Buhari for indoctrination into their views. The cable writer noted: “They attempted Gen. Buharis daughter but we kept it secret and we organized and tackle then, but they are after her to date," the message said. The text writer also referred to a web chat room called Nigerian Muslim Network in which Abdulmuttalab was revealed to have burning desire for General Buhari’s daughter. With reference to Abdulmuttalab’s background, the writer said he was “groomed” by Yakubu Kano, Maigari and Sheik Gumi. It was further noted in the cell phone message Abdulmuttalab’s extremist tendencies started early, observing that “he left a mark” in his British School in Lome (BSL), in Togo. For further information about that, he the writer gave the name of Mr. Ian Sayer, the school principal whom he said was in the United Kingdom. It is unclear if Mr. Sayer had retired at that point, or was merely on vacation in the UK. The principal target of the fundamentalists was Dr Mahmood Tukur. The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 25 members of the Sara-Suka militant group in the last one week in a renewed effort to rid the area of criminals. The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, made the announcement in Bauchi while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command within the last one week. He said the militants, who were arrested in various locations within the state, were involved in heinous crimes, including culpable homicide, armed robbery, terrorism and arson. Aduba said the militants had recently chopped off two fingers of the right hand of a highly placed government official. He added that 12 machetes, two knives and some quantity of weed suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects. Aduba announced that the command had also arrested three men suspected to be NITEL cable vandals, noting that a motorcycle and an electric generator were recovered from them. He promised that the suspects would be charged to court after police investigations, and urged the public to assist the police with useful information on the activities of criminals.
