I reserve my comment on this topic. But to rate Nigerian economy among the world fastest growing; hm very ludiCrous and unbelievable. With over 70% unemployment rate to be modest. Total black out and average of 3 hours a day power supply across the nation. Dilapidated and deplorable road network. A consumer oriented economy, importing almost everything including tooth pick and pencil. And plundered national reserves courtsey of corrupt public officers. Haba, who is fooling who? Hmmm, truly the fastest growing |
I read the AGF remarks, very ridiculous, and bemusing but am not surprise, he never disappointed me and am sure he has spoken his boss' mind. After all, the resolution of House that FG should revert to N65 pump price /litre in January was said to a mere advise that lacks. If anyone expects this administration to give corruption a serious fight, such individuals should have a rethink, how can corrupt people fight corruption? As far as am concerned, both EFCC and ICPC exist a means to silence opposition or punish loyalists who goofed in one way or the other, no more no less. Well back to his remarks on previous cases of corruption charges being discarded by Nigerian courts for lack of evidence, I wonder where UK found the evidences to jail Ibori whereas he was discharged and acquitted by Nigerian Court. Do we then say that our judiciary in Nigeria is incompetent or they have being bought over. -(dis)Honorable Minister of (in)Justice knows better. |
chinwe11: Nairalanders, i have some questions oh. I am getting married in August..............my fiance and i are both working, but the house where he is staying now is having some problems, and might fall soon, so the landlord told them all to evacuate so he can renovate. (The rent was expiring in September anyway) My fiance then decided to use part of the money for the wedding to rent a new house for us. The problem now is, after renting the house, he had to do renovations etc, and now the wedding for the money is almost finished to about 20% left. he is now saying shebi i also have money that i should make up the remaining 80%. Please nairalanders what do you think? Is a woman supposed to pay the bulk money for the wedding? What in your own opinion do you think marriage is all about? is it not meant to be a partnership sort of? If someone chooses to marry u, then he must carry all ur loads? He paid heavily for rent, u have excess cash and u want him to go and borrow to finance other wedding expenses? I guess he forced/begged u to marry him. I was expecting u to say "his" wedding. If its "your" (you and him) wedding, how on earth is it a taboo for you to contribute. Hmmm, seems you are still a baby. Pls wake up. You are meant to be his help meet, a partner and source of succor. |

Often I wonder what exactly is our greatest problem in Nigeria. Is it truly corruption? its becoming apparent that this is not our greatest problem. Don't misconstrue me, corruption is an evil that has stooped us from getting to where we should be, but itself is not the major issue. The major issues are those elements, attitudes, behavior in us that blindfold us to the reality and prevent us from fighting a noble course. The worst of it all is IGNORANCE. Then there is greed, then SENTIMENTS (he is my party man, we are from the same place, we practice same religion) I cant just understand why many Nigerians are so gullible, a man is invited for interrogation on issues bothering on fraud, and the next thing is to take to the street, protesting in defense of him in exchange for a morsel of eba/ paltry 10r 2k, Haba!!!. These are the same people at whose expense this man is living large. Is Saraki above the law. |

violent: I agree completely with you. The poll must be accurate and reflective of Mama Ngozi's view of the current leadership especially given that her three daughters are now forced to walk 6 miles to school since the oil subsidyLOL |
manny4life: If they had said "approval ratings by the international community" then I'll say TRUE, but the average Nigerian does NOT agree with this. The average Nigerian hasn't benefited "directly" from GEJ leadership just like his predecessors. Let's look at it this wayI cant agrees the less. We don't need to talk about the state of our roads; DEPLORABLE!!! The HELPLESS AND PITIABLE state of power supply. The testimony that our political leaders bear to the Medical and health sectors, you can imagine when they have common headache or cold its either Isreal or India. And worst of all, the MORIBUND educational system, which none of the political leaders can boast of, otherwise why do they all send their children to school in yanke. May God deliver us |
OlowoTee: I'm sorry, but i was going to ask when do we prepare for mass protest over the d BokoHaramss ? Aren't they deadlier? And let me add that corruption begat every othevil that u see today. BH or what have u. I hav a colleague from Borno and it was shocking to hear how political thuggery metarmophosed into BH that you are witnessing today. Still greed and corruption |
Arysexy: they only stand up when their son is not in power, where were they when OBJ was looting naija dry? Dis subsidy palaver is a rot frm OBJ regime.@ Arysexy What a senseless, absurd, annoying and unintelligent thing to say? Anyway, I have always said that the only problem we have in Nigeria is our sentiment and tribalistic way of life. Nothing is wrong as long as its ur town's man that is involved. I wonder if some people have anything called brain in their head, or else how could a reasonable human being compare subsidy under Obj which was 200 to 300 billions to roughly 2 trillion in GEJ first year and someone will be saying nonsense here cos of tribal affiliation. Am not absolving ObJ and am not saying he is not corrupt, bt do you know the pains that the hike in price of petrol has brought to many Nigerian. I plead with you and anyother person who have same brain and reason like you to learn to keep their mouth shut whenever a sensitive issue is being discussed otherwise we will invoke the wrath of God upon you as we are doing for those plundering our nation. Finally, to all sensible guys out there, let's stand for the good of this nation. Let's put our religion and tribal affiliation or differencies aside, wrong is wrong and right is right irrespective of who is involved. |

kulutempa: I have just finished reading Justice Awokulehin's judgment in the Ibori case and his reasons for his decision. The man must be either a liar or an ignorant fool. What he failed to mention is that a defendant can be convicted not only on the basis of direct evidence but also on circumstantial evidence which taken together point to his guilt. What he basically did in his judgment is to require the Prosecution to prove that all the Defendants directly laundered money by way of payments into and out of their personal accounts, without considering the role of intermediaries which we all know is not the way it works in practice. Even more shocking, is the count that relates to the attempt by James Ibori to bribe Nuhu Ribadu with $15 million in cash through Dr Andy Uba. The Judge held that there is no witness statement from Dr Andy Uba to say whether Ibori gave him money, and the purpose to which the money was given! Apparently Justice Awokulehin expects Dr Uba to either incriminate himself, or turn to a Prosecution witness! It is on the basis of the lack of such a statement that the count and all the other 169 counts were dismissed. As a lawyer what I find even more shocking is that the case was not a trial but a preliminary hearing about whether Ibori has a case to answer (prima facie case). However I think that there is a lot to be said for money laundering legislation in Nigeria to be redrafted to include lifestyle inferences such as a civil servant living about his means and owning 5 houses and 10 cars. The link to the case is here http://www.debateandreview.com/law/personal-tech/347-efcc-vs-james-ibori-the-decisionKulutempa. Please help u tell your learned colleagues to stop collaborating with criminals in killing our economy. If all cases of corruption have be decisively and unbiased dealt with, by now this country would be on a path of greatness. But people steal and commit all manner of atrocities with impunity, knowing fully well that they can always pay through to suppress justice |
DEAD conscience |
Am not surprised, that is the best comment any reasonable Nigeria should expect. How can a thief call another one a thief. It just tells you what is going on currently. He that must come to equity, must come with a clean hands. My fear is that the money will just change hands form one**** to anoither **** How i wish UK can manage the money to provide infrastructure in Delta state rather than hand it over to the current admin. Finally, am ashamed on the nation's judiciary, and i have always said that the solution to this vice is in the judiciary hands until we begin to do like China in dealing with corruption. Why dont we have light--- Corruption Why is are the roads so bad? Why is the unemployment rate so high Why do we lack medical facilities Why inadequate housing Why is the educational system paralysed Why the insurgence in the Northern part of the country Name it, everything is traceable to corruption Hmmmmmm, i pray we stop this monster before it "stopped" our Nation |
It ws a saturday evening, precisely, 13th June 2009. I had just got wedded and went to see my parents at Ipaja side of Lagos. On my way home (ogba area), i took a bic and loo and behold, a police officer jump on the road from behind a trailer (apprently he was hissing there) We (the cyclist and i) fell from the back i had initially thought it was an armed robber ( oh sorry yes he is, only that he is licensed to operate that way).As i was getting up, someone flashed light on us and it was trhen i saw his partner in police uniform. Releived that we were not delaing with armed robbers, I asked, "oga why did u do this, see what you have caused us" that was my crime. Haba!!! u have the gut to question a police officer, so they descended on me and beat me with all brutality. I was in their custody tilkl about 12.20 am before they released me, many thanks to a Dierctor of service in Lagos state then. I was beaten to the extent that i had a dislocation on my right shoulder. I was home for weeks before i could resume work. I received the greates shock of my life when i got to Lagos Teaching Hospital and a doctor there told me that Nigerian Police is full of insane men. I agree that many, perhaps above 90% of them satisfy the doctor's description. but i have met few of them who are thorogh bred professional, but they are so few in numbers to wield any siognificance influence. |
Suffering cos of our ignorance. If most people knew the p[rovisions of the Constitution of this land (pls read section 40) u wud realise that what they did was grevious. my only concern is our judiciary, we all witnessed uncle "head cover" case |
My personal opinion is that price reduction is the only strategy for Nissan to penetrate the auto market and have a little of Toyota's share. Needless to say, there are more Toyota in town than Nissan product. I have been using nissan for over two years and i can say categorycally that it has no mechanicall issue ( or may be i should say my own). Other than the normal services and when some one bashed me, i havent experienced any problem with my car. I only go to mechanic for regular services. period. The only thing is that most Nissan come with big engine, which makes the fuel consumption higher than common Toyota and the rest. But there is an advantage in this if you are a regular long distance traveller. Cheers. |
I read with consternation all the write up in defence of our petroleum minister' family and I was amazed how gullible some Nigerians could be despite our level of education. Hum. Well the boy did a good job, am sure the parents would be proud of him, am not surprised though, at least that should be a huge return for the parents' heavy investment on him education wise. Smart Ugo, I salute. Prof ugo, please give the name of the establishment where u worked while u were an undergraduate to supplement the "meagre" upkeep your parent gave you so that people can verify. Also give the details of your current employer and your salary package and let's weigh your standard of living with an average person who earns same wages in your chosen country of abode. As much as I want to be fair wt ds guy, and without dismissing his explanation. However am being forced to ask a question, how many of our brothers and sisters who school abroad can afford this type of lifestyle, rented or not? One thing I know is that, the liar knows when he lies. (Eni meji ki padanu iro). Let's wait for the ongoing probe to be concluded, then and only then can we prove people's innocence. |
Who is talking? What are Koro's antecedents that he's cominmg out to condemn people? While am not in any way supporting/absolving ACN, but Koro of all people has no moral ground to condemn anyone. To start with, what are his achievements as a local govt chairman, ,what value did he add as a commissioner/ senator e.tc, Besides, if Obasanjo was to have his way, would he not have been a beneficiary of stolen mandate to become gov of Lagos in 2007 (did he rebuke Obasanjo, when he publicly told Lagosian (at Ketu in 2007) that whether they vote or they dont Koro was going to be their gov. And talking about his son, what does he have to convince the people that he is fit and capable of serving the people other than his father is an ambassador. Finally, any obe can criticise the ills in the society but not the likes of Obanikoro. His one of the kind. |

This is part of GEJ promises------ Hard/harsh economic decisions and policieswill be made, albeit after the election. This was published during this week. I wonder if our leaders, policy drivers and national decision makers have blood flowing in their veins. Nobody is talking about improving performance, yet we are talking of 500% tarrif increase. I pay 3k monthly (just a small family) despite that i dont use any heavy equipment and this light doesnt come everyday, sometime, it goes for a whole week. yet am paying 3k, now i shud be ready to pay 15 k abi. God will punish their wickedness. I would have expected GEJ to slash all the outrageous allowances being paid politicians to cater for waterever increased cost of providing amenities for the masses. Rather, they want to take more from us to cater for their selfish interests. Nigerians, please lets demand our dividends of democracy. Infrastructure and social amenities at affordable prices, this is one of the reasion i learnt Govt exists for during my days in senior secondary school |
I seek an avenue for Nigerians to collate and review the activities of our political class (both positive and negative anyway). I want to start with the legislative arm at the Federal level. I will not be able to enumerate all, so I want everybody to add to the list. Am starting with the negative one since the inception of democarcy in 1999. 1. Toronto Certificate saga by our first honorable speaker of the lower house in the fourth republic 2. Jumbo furniture allowance- Okadigbo 3. The controversial Ileya ram 4. Madam Etteh outrageous renovation expenses 5. The June 22, 2010 fracas and cloth stripping in the house 6. Jumbo allowance under Hon Bankole, the illegal bank loans (about 10b naira) e.t.c 7. Hon. Bankole and deputy’s trial by EFCC The above are few i can remember from the numerous accomplishments/successes of the house that I can remember. Dear N/L please lets see your own observation and it doesn’t have to be negative anyway. What baffles me is that I haven’t seen any legislation that adds significantly to the lives of a typical Nigerian. For example, one would have expected a review of our tax laws by this honorable house, the current tax law was last reviewed in 1979; most of the provisions are far below current ecomomic realities. For instance, businesses pay tax on the assessable profits, that is, what they earn minus all expenses incurred in earning that income. Same is not for PAYE (Tax on salary earners and business men), all earning are taxed EXCEPT some allowances listed below. • Housing Allowance- maximum of 150k per annum- Our friends in estate magt please give your opinion on the adequacy of this. • Transport N20k per annum- If you live in mainland and work on the Island, am sure you will spend close to this if not more in a month • Children allowance N2.5k per annum and child not above 18. We all know what school fees are from crech to university today, Govt owned schools inclusive. • Utility 5 or 6K per annum- Today, PCH charges me 3k monthly, DSTV is there, water board , GSM and waste disposal • Lunch 6k PA- I wonder if this can sustain one for a month • Dependent relative 2k PA- Your Govt thinks if you give your parent 2k in a year after all they have suffered for you then you have performed |
If you are known as a christian and you dont have money (cant afford a good home, good meal and clothing for your family and cant send your children to school), people will despise you and possibly the God you serve. Yet if you are rich in material things, you are seen to be evil and ungodly. Let it be told that Christianity is not synonimous to poverty. If in doubt go and read the book of revelatiion and see the decription of heaven (MADE OF PRECIOU GOLD). Christ only warns us against placing money before God, whether there is money or there is no money, God remains God. However, God has not called us to suffer. If you are a bible scholar you will know for sure that its not a crime to be rich, read about Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Even Jesus, the his garment was so expensive that peopl had to struggle over it whn he did. I think the problem with most people is that they want their pastor to be poor so he can be answerable to them. Pastors should come to church members for help before he can build a house, or even sent his children to school. While church members live in affluence their pastors should live in poverty, he would take commercial bus to visist them, while they have many exotic cars at their garage. Jesus however, teaches us to remember the poor and do good to all men with our wealth. I will conclude by saying: It is not a sin for a man of God to be wealthy Its wrong for anyone to judge his brother, man of God or not. God is the only judge That you are rich is not a determinat that you wuill go to hell neither will poverty open the gate of heaven to you and finally, FACE YOUR OWN RACE AND STOP BICKERING ABOUT MEN OF GOD |
got to office this morning and sent a "false" breaking news to some selceted staff INEC disqualifies Gov Babatunde Raji Fashola from participating in Lagos guber poll. See katakata, but eventually they knew i was fooling them. It was fun sha, i had fun and great excitement. |

WHAT ABOUT RCCG? If the fact that a pastor in RCCG was involved in a fraud makes all RCCG pastors or memebers fraudster, then every one who has contrubuted to this is a fraudster, a thief, an armed robbers,a kidnapper, a prostitute, aritualist and mention it. Why? Because in Nigeria, we have a least a fraudster, a thief, an armed robber, a prostitute, a ritualist and a kidnapper. THUS Every nigerian is one I do not know what the problem is with some people. Who told you that the mentioned pastor is a reflective of all redeemed member. Even if he is the GO he, is not Jesus who is the ultimate. LOOKING UNTO JESUS THE AUTHOR AND THE FINISHARE OF OUR FAITH If ttruly the man ids guilty , he has failed himself a, his family and God and God would judge hima ccordingly, he can however repent and God would forgive him, God said he would have mercy on who he will have m,ercy and compassion upon whom he will. Remember the thief at the right hand of the cross |
If I were you, I would make sure i disgrace and molest her to the extent that she would find it difficult to move around town. First, I would post her picture on nairaland with a bad label I would post her fraudulent acts to her wall on facebook I would download her pictures and make computer printout with her name and phone number telling the whole word that she is a fraudster and paste everywhere in Ikeja. , More, I will organize area boys to beat her up I hope ur side of the story was through? |
