The attention of AKPABIO MEDIA OFFICE has been drawn to series of quotes attributed to him which he is purported to have made against some South-South leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC.) Contrary to the online reports, Senator Godswill Akpabio did not at any time, whensoever, make any mischievous, vacuous and disparaging statements against the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege nor the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. The statements, mischievously credited to Senator Akpabio are nothing but evil works of deranged and obsessed imposters who have lately taken to writing and publishing fake stories about the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. The stories fail the basic test of believability. For instance, when did he make the statements attributed to him? Was it in an interview and if so with which medium? Who were those present when he made the statements? What is obvious is that these publications are sponsored by a network of Akpabio haters in high places, both within and outside Akwa Ibom State, who flood social media platforms with lies and vacuous statements aimed at pitching him against other South-South leaders while subverting peace in the region. Senator Akpabio's commitment in changing the developmental narrative of the Niger Delta region and one who is set to accomplish President Buhari's Niger Delta agenda has unsettled a few elites of the region. That is why they have conscripted some social media trolls to execute a sinister plot, which is to disseminate fake and disparaging news, disrupt his well articulated agenda for the development of the Niger Delta, if possible, truncate his robust political career. We wish to state that all public events attended by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs are always given adequate media coverage so as to leave no room for hearsay and speculations. Press statements emanating from him are duly signed by his media aide or office. Any report attributed to him that is not reported by the mainstream media nor signed by his media office is the handiwork of mischief-makers and should be ignored. While Senator Akpabio can never be distracted by any shade of mischief or shenanigans of his traducers, we enjoin all Nigerians to appreciate and embrace President Buhari's national development agenda that is already bearing fruits for the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole. Signed: AKPABIO MEDIA OFFICE March 15, 2020.

Abasifreke Effiong On Monday 30th December, 2019, during an end-of-year meeting convened by the Uyo local government council at its secretariat Wellington Bassey way, Obong Bassey Albert better known as OBA, senator representing Akwa Ibom North East senatorial district was quoted to have admitted to being a cultist, a 'cultist for christ', while addressing the Christmas event. OBA said, "they have said that I am too close to the youths. They have said that OBA is a cultist. I am a cultist, for christ." A number of persons who are directly and indirectly involved with the senator have tried furiously to knock off the import of the statement from public discourse with some rather incoherent logic, despite the fact that the meaning of the statement remains explicit, simple and straightforward. There is no contention about OBA's right and freedom of association. But the credence he sought - using "christ" and "closeness to youths" as veils in that his cultism admission was blasphemy and manipulative. OBA's blasphemous "cultists for christ" balderdash has raised questions which the senator will have to address. Who said that OBA is a cultist? Which youths was OBA referring to? What were the embedded motives of OBA's statement? Answering these questions within the context of OBA's statement will be beneficial in ways more than one. Who are the 'they' Senator Albert referred to when he said, "they said, I am a cultist"? The first time cultism-related leadership in relation to the 2023 governorship entered the media space in Akwa Ibom state was at a meeting between the governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the clergy - fathers of faith, as they are called - in the state. At that meeting, the governor reportedly appealed to the clergy to support his desire not to handover the state to a cultist by the time he will leave office in 2023. For me, that was a genuine appeal even though the governor cannot excuse himself that he was driven on the crest of a massive cultism-induced support to power in 2019, a position OBA is clinging onto. Governor Udom Emmanuel has invested huge capital in the spiritual uplift of the state; as such would not want the state to lose such capital by entrenching an inglorious reign of cultism. Prior to OBA's statement, it was only the governor that talked about cultism and public governance in the state. So, was OBA's comment viewed by many as infantile and irresponsible a subtle and indirect blackmail against the governor who said that he will not handover the state to a cultist? Why was OBA desperately responding to the governor's cult/governorship narrative if it is true that "cultism is a religion and everyone who supports a religion is a cultist" as advanced by his supporters? Why is OBA jittery? Could he be suspecting that those who accused him of breeding cultists during the last administration have told the governor that he is a cultist? Is he afraid that the cults he is alleged to have bred may come after him should he lose political relevance? Senator Albert is not alone in the governorship race; there are other respected Akwa Ibom persons including, Senator John Udoedehe, Mr. Udom Inoyo, Engr. Mike Enyong, Mr. Akan Okon, Senator Ita Enang, and Barr. Onofiok Luke. Why has the governor's blanket statement pinched him alone? Senator Albert claimed that he was accused of being a cultist because of his closeness to the youths. Which "youths" was he talking about? Was he talking about his closeness to the hundreds of unemployed youths who hang around his house at Shelter Afrique every Christmas? Who is not close to the youths amongst those seeking the governorship? OBA is not popular among responsible youths than Onofiok, Akan, Ita, Mike, John, and Udom. Therefore, his claim that he is close to the youths was superfluous, deceptive and manipulative. Strictly, his motive on this was to manipulate the youths to buy into his profane sentiments, while extracting their endorsement using a very crude and out-of-fashion propaganda. Good leaders do not seek to manipulate the people they want to lead, they inspire them. In the eternal words of Myles Munroe, on "keys to becoming a leader", true leaders do not use their capacity to tantalize the sheepish emotions of the people with their words. True leadership is completely opposite to manipulation, it's about inspiration. OBA's claim of closeness to the youths was aimed to "tantalize their emotions." Also, OBA wanted the youths to think that his governorship ambition is driven by their interest. This is not true. The governorship is his personal quest for power, not for the service of the youths. How many youths have OBA sacrificed his resources and pride to give the kind of opportunity he was given by Senator Godswill Akpabio? Senator Albert was appointed commissioner for finance, Akwa Ibom state at the age of 35 in what was a deliberate capital investment in the youths by the Akpabio administration. Twelve (12) years down the line, OBA has sat as chairman senate committee on gas resources, and currently sits as chairman senate committee on petroleum (upstream). These are very 'juicy' committees. How many sustainable jobs and business opportunities has he opened for the youths he desire to be seen as having so much love for through these committees? It is time for those whom the "gods have cracked their kernel" to give account of the strategic capital investment they have made in the state for the youths, not rice, wrapper, house rent and 'tokunbo' car empowerment. Engr. Michael Enyong who has not enjoyed half of the public privileges OBA has enjoyed, has shown record that he has facilitated 55 exotic employment in federal institutions for his constituents. Emmanuel Ekon who chaired a low grade committee in the house of representatives as compared to OBA's has attracted a whooping N700 million worth state-of-the-art carpentry workshop/equipment to Technical College, Abak. Buying of 'tokunbo' cars and rice and lining up 'youths', who are defined by 'brotherhood', 'families' and 'churches', (for whatever that means) and distributing it to them, has not conferred on anyone the status of a seer and mouthpiece of the youths. The rice OBA shares is bought from the rice farm of his contemporary, a senator from Kebbi state. One can imagine the number of youths and women who live off the farm and its value-chain. If OBA were to be genuinely interested in sustainable human capacity development, he would have as a mark of love for the youths attracted investors from his vantage position in the senate to invest in rice production in his local government, Ibiono Ibom which has vast landmass for rice production. He would have been interested in maximizing the enormous agric potential his local government is known for to create employment and a value-chain. People who genuinely love the youths think about lifting them out of poverty, not using their vulnerability to manipulate them to conform with their wishes. I will not contend with those arguing that OBA is popular. It can also be said that he has far-reaching business interests than any youth his age from Akwa Ibom who rode on the benevolence of the public to stardom. Bassey Albert should be proving his love by publishing the lists of Akwa Ibom youths who are drawing salaries from his investments anywhere in Akwa Ibom state. John Maxwell noted in one of his leadership treaties that, "a successful person finds the right place for himself. But a successful leader finds the right place for others." Senator Albert is interested in the governorship. I totally agree with him that 'no man can stop his destiny', provided divinity had included what he seeks in the chronicle of his life. In seeking endorsement for his 'destiny', Senator Albert should know that as a christian-dominated state, the people also have a destiny to reject his mindless, manipulative and blasphemous profanity. OBA should seek the support of the youths genuinely and courteously, not incite them against the governor and others whom he indirectly accused of calling him a cultist. The motive of his statement at the Uyo christmas get-together was clearly inciteful. Akwa Ibom state needs a governor who will inspire positive influence. Senator Albert does not trust the peopel who work day and night for him. He said so at the congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on 23rd December, 2019 while advising the chairman of the union. At that congress, OBA said, "don't trust any man; don't even trust me, because I don't trust you." The import of that statement may have been lost on him, but the audience was startled by those words of caution which left a strong query on the character of the man who wishes to become governor.

By Udeme Ankott I'm a clown without a circus. There's no-one to see my act. I can laugh and sing and stand on my head, Nobody knows where I'm at . . . The above is the chorus of a song titled, CIRCLES, from the 1978 album, WATCH by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, an English rock band. It depicts the precarious situation society finds itself when passion and talent are wrongly channeled because of a lack of a proper platform. A clown, buffoon or Scaramouch is simply a comically dressed performer at a circus who entertains with playful tricks and a ridiculous behaviour. At a circus, the clown is a delight to watch as the audience is thrilled with all sorts of pranks and mischievous acts. But outside the circus, the clown has no identity. Any attempt to assert his status without the circus translates into public nuisance and an aberration to civility. Ini Ememobong, the Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, is a typical example of a harlequin who has lost his way and drifted into the society with his complete regalia. In a recent supposed press statement dated 13th December, 2019, Ini Ememobong once again gave us reason to probe his moral rectitude cum mental health. The content of the hate laced press statement further magnifies the outright destruction of our value system. With his verbose delivery, Ememobong has entertained public domain but discerning minds have seen through the smokescreen that he is simply a clown earning his lucre, no matter how filthy. The job description of a publicity secretary of a political party or any other structured organization entails keeping the public up to speed with the activities of the party or organization. It is a noble portfolio that requires proper and ethical conduct by the office holder. But Ini Ememobong, given his proclivity to disparage and cast aspersion on the good person of Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON, is a far cry from this ethical standard. Joining issues with Ememobong's ilk is an effort in futility because by his recent vituperations against all logic, the publicity secretary of PDP in Akwa Ibom State insists on exercising his fundamental human right of refusing to have common sense. Or put it interrogatively, what on earth is Ini Ememobong smoking? As Senator Representing Akwa Ibom North West, Senator Akpabio's span of positive impact with effective representation is statutorily limited to the local government areas that make up the senatorial district in Akwa Ibom State. By the grace of God upon his life, Senator Akpabio experienced a minor setback that culminated in his recent appointment as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs where he is charged with the responsibility to rewrite the story of the Niger Delta by replicating his Uncommon Transformation feat in the area. But Ini Ememobong's mind has been cluttered by lucre over logic. Ini Emembong has closed his eyes to the wanton ineptitude perpetrated by his party through the Government in Akwa Ibom State . Over the last five years the people of Akwa Ibom have been subjected hardship in diverse pseudonyms. Ini Ememobong and his paymaster have lost touch with reality that governance is not about groundbreaking but by ground expansion via visible life impacting projects. The Ponzi scheme style of governance in the State reduces the likes of the collapsed MMM to mere shoe shining. The much vaunted managerial prowess of the Harvard trained, deacon governor leaves much to be desired. From the billboard located industries to the failure to provide school head teachers with imprest to procure mere chalk, even in the bare faced lie of Free and Compulsory Education, the State seems to be in for more and more ponzi schemes. 2019 General Elections have come and gone and Ini Ememobong's post election blues has turned him into a clown without a circus. In the circus of Ini Ememobong's life, Senator Godswill Akpabio "fathered" him, polished him up and gave him a platform. His emergence as a factional leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) was by the benevolence of Senator Godswill Akpabio who was sincerely excited that an Akwa Ibom son was running for the highest office in the students' union in the nation. Narratives back then suggested he had diverted campaign resources provided by Akpabio to his personal use. Right thinking students were watching him keenly. To encourage Ini Ememobong, Senator Akpabio facilitated his National Service redeployment to Akwa Ibom and thereafter appointed this colossal ingrate Special Assistant on Student Matters. Ini Ememobong's penchant to circumvent grew in leaps and bounds and he ensured that his stomach infrastructure was secured at the expense of students' interest. Ini Ememobong and his love for filthy lucre is an aberration that should be loathed by anyone who has any modicum of moral decency. Uptill date, the famed comrade publicity secretary of PDP and his paymaster cannot tell Akwa Ibom State who owns IbomAir, and how much of our common patrimony has been wasted on the industrialization scam. Akwa Ibom State depends on Cross River State for its garri consumption. Crayfish sourced from Oron, is cheaper in Aba than in Uyo. Ememobong has unconsciously placed his paymaster in the dock for public appraisal. Performance wise, the PDP led government is clueless, too low for zero and obviously bereft of any life impacting project or venture to celebrate. But what would one expect from a man whose departure from Zenith Bank precipitated and enthralling celebration ? Ini Ememobong has suddenly forgotten how Senator Akpabio offered himself to be instrumental to saving the life of his (Ini) father. Ememobong has also forgotten how Senator Godswill Akpabio provided Ini's father a roof over and a new car all in a bid to make life better for them. Ememobong's rise to the office of the chapter publicity secretary of PDP is traceable to the foundation Senator Akpabio had built for him. Is it the naira rain that follows every press release that fuels Ememobong's insatiable desire to hurl fiery darts of misleading narratives against a man he has no moral justification to denigrate? He has forgotten his journey into matrimony and how Senator Akpabio played an important role to ensure the success of that phase of his life. Ini has forgotten. But Ini Ememobong has decided to talk and talking he has been doing to the detriment of his political party. I say because when you use political platform to injure public sensibilities, you alienate followership. Ini Ememobong has carved a niche for himself as a liability to his, party, principal and paymaster or is he simply taking advantage of the latter's naivety. Because Ememobong is privy to his paymaster's political preferences concerning 2023 governorship elections, he is reported to have boasted in a conversation that he would chase Obong Bassey Albert out of the race. This where ineptitude meets greed. How can a serving governor with a below par performance be thinking of how to decide the outcome of an election that is scheduled to hold about three and a half years from now? But what would one expect from man who immodestly flaunts credentials and prides himself as the first and last Aristotle to grace Akwa Ibom space? Ini Ememobong cannot give reasons why this administration has not been able to pay students' bursary since its assumption of office in May 29, 2015 or can he defend his boss as regards the deplorable state of Akwa Ibom roads and the general filth that has overtaken the metropolis. Ini Ememobong should please release a press statement concerning the refunds from the federal government for the federal roads constructed by the Akpabio administration which runs into billions of naira and how it was squandered during the 2019 elections. Ini Ememobong should release a press statement on the professional capabilities of the contractor handling the Ekom Iman flyover because with information gotten we are dealing with a "shovel and spade" construction concern and we sincerely do not want to experience another Reigner's Assembly disaster. Ini Ememobong should please tell us why it is very difficult to explain where the St. Gabriel Coconut Refinery sources its coconut from and how much it has created in revenue or is it another version of the street parlance, "wash wash"? The clown in Ini Ememobong has always deceived him to believe that his fusion of lexical items translates to the truth. His ability to captivate his audience with verbose inanities, is a mere grand performance by the head clown in the falsehood ridden government of Udom Emmanuel. Ememobong and his sponsors should know that Senator Akpabio's growth and relevance, against their evil expectations, vary directly with the slur and barrage of insults hurled at him. His testimonial of service to humanity is constantly speaking on his behalf in contrast to the pain inflicted by the insensitive PDP government. Ini Ememobong is paid to talk, thus he must talk. The cost of sponsoring this hogwash would go a long way in providing classroom chairs and tables in public schools. As evidently recorded by performance by states in WAEC organized examinations, Akwa Ibom is gradually drifting to a low ebb and Ememobong cannot tell us why. Ini Ememobong as a clown is definitely efficient but he needs to find himself a circus because between now and December 2022, Akwa Ibom people will demand governance with a human face not one masked with piety but evil dwells in its crevices. Ememobong can talk on and talk his sponsors into trouble with the EFCC for the day of reckoning is nigh. Udeme Ankott resides in Lagos

There has been a lot of media reports lately alleging that Mr. Nsima Ekere, former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and APC Governorship Candidate in last general election in Akwa Ibom State and his successor at NDDC, Prof Nelson Brambaifa have been indicted in the United States following the discovery of USD11m (or is it USD12m, USD16m or UDS17m) in an account belonging to the wife of a serving Army General deployed to the Commission between 2016 - 2019. This apparently mischievous story is absolutely false and incorrect especially as it involves Mr. Ekere. For the records, let me state that Nsima Ekere has not been indicted by anyone in any country on earth and traveled for a well-deserved holiday on December 21. An indictment means one has been investigated and a prima facie case established in accordance with legal procedures. We have recent examples to guide our understanding of the issue. Ekere served meritoriously as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, resigning voluntarily to contest the Akwa Ibom State Governorship election. He welcomes the forensic audit ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari and is in support of any move that will translate into sustainable development for the Niger Delta region. Mr. Ekere is on hand and ready to account for his stewardship while he served as helmsman of the NDDC. Until that is required, he is entitled to and deserves the right to continue to live peacefully as any other law abiding citizen of NIGERIA. Imo E. Akpan, Coordinator, NUEMEDIA. 31/12/2019.

By Udeme Ankott That Akwa Ibom is progressively raring to a moral abyss under Udom's watch is becoming glaring by the day with the reward of mediocrity witnessed in the piecemeal and staggered appointments of personal aides that are coming as some flash in the pan. A fact that underpins most of the appointments is the history of the ferocity of the beneficiary to insult and cast slur on the person of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio. The only credential needed for appointment in Akwa Ibom State is that uncouth behaviour, not certificates that build character in the course of acquisition. This explains why John Asikpo, Richard Peters, Ani Asikpo and many others of their ilk are appointees of government today. It was therefore not a surprise when I read an article with the above caption today by one nitwit called Rev. Richard Peters. This character is everything but a Christian. His conduct, utterances , kindergarten and perfidious writings, his penchant to lie with such ease and hate that rules his heart make his ecclesiastic role suspect and dubious. A Christian is known for his basic inclination to truth and a heart that does not harbour hate. However, one can say without equivocation that the article appended to by Richard Peters as author is not written by him. Anybody who doubts this assertion should review a few of the things he has written which are always replete with grammatical flaws, poor logic, inconsistency in reasoning and would come to the conclusion that even though this said article is also has reservations, Richard Peters does not possess the mental resourcefulness to author it. But as a capricious and pliable character, he is always on hand for use by the government of the day for evil. To the hollow article which he has dubiously patented, it is fallacious, non-factual, specious, spurious and only contrived to serve the end of injustice that Mike Igini, in active collaboration with Akwa Ibom State Government meted out to the people of the State. The self serving article which is as much as ironical, exposes the shenanigans the State Government deployed in scuttling the collective wish of the people of the State, especially in the election of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District. The perfidy which has come to define the government of the day in Akwa Ibom State is in full display in the ill fated piece. Hear this; "The presence of Mike Igini in Akwa Ibom State as the Resident Electoral Commissioner marked a watershed on how election should be conducted". But it was also in this dubiously embellished election that a TOYOTA HILUX vehicle that was conveying sensitive materials to unknown destination, to destroy any evidence of heist, somersaulted and the said materials were strewn on the road in Abak, close to Holy Family College. Up till now, INEC has not explained what happened. It was this same "Saint Mike Igini" who only accepted Adhoc Staff provided by PDP and rejected even neutral persons on the orders of his favoured party in the State. INEC, in the State under Mike Igini filed several cross appeals against APC evidencing its bias. His overt support for PDP was patent and served to validate the widespread rumour that he was not only in cahoot with PDP, he was also compromised with irresistible financial inducement from the State Government. The claim that Akpabio often manipulated elections in his time is a mere ruse to cover Governor Udom Emmanuel's impunity in the conduct of elections. The Local Government elections of December 2, 2017, conducted by AKISIEC, lacked every semblance of election expected in any modern clime. Governor Emmanuel in that election suffocated the will of the people even in the stronghold of the opposition and carted away all the 31 local government areas. With the glaring manipulation of that election vis-a-vis public resentment, the Minister, who was then in PDP as Minority Leader raised the alarm with the famous "all is not well" as a clarion call that the party needed to sit up. It is on record that during Akpabio's era that the impish writer is trying to demonize, opposition party used to win elections in their strongholds. One recalls that there was a member of the opposition who was in the Federal House of Representatives and there was yet another in the State House of Assembly. Of course, opposition party was in the leadership of many local governments. But in Udom's administration, despite his dismal performance and groundswell support APC is enjoying, PDP committed electoral malfeasance by carting away every elective office through dubious fiat and in collusion with INEC. A wise saying notes that it is only in a community of imbeciles that you have an unanimity of opinion. Are Igini, Udom and this jester who claims to be a writer, thinking we are all imbeciles in Akwa Ibom State? The writer is economical with the truth. He claims that Akpabio and his group were known for writing results and allocating votes and INEC was made to declare same on behalf of the people of Akwa Ibom State. This is exactly what happened under Igini's watch in 2019. Votes scored by APC were cancelled arbitrarily on the orders of Igini after the said votes had been duly collated and announced at constitutionally designated centres by the appropriate returning officers. The Returning Officer for Essien Udim Local Government Area in the Senatorial election said this much in his testimony at the Tribunal. The much vaunted integrity of Mr. Mike Igini remains a mere grandstanding predicated on duplicity. There are a surfeit of evidence including videos on how Igini manipulated the 2019 election to favour PDP. There are also verifiable facts to support the widely held assertion that the Akwa Ibom State Government bought over the State INEC and made it an appendage of the State Government. INEC events were even anchored by the State Compere and the Resident Electoral Commissioner was sighted severally in Government House sometimes during unholy hours. Mr. Igini cannot in all honesty claim impartiality in that election. Mr. Igini has been loquacious in claiming that he resisted bribe from Akpabio. Let Igini state where and when he met Akpabio for any discussion that bordered on his claimed attempt of bribe offering. This writer has it on good authority that Akpabio and Igini have never met. The specious claim revolves around the attempt to tarnish Akpabio's hard earned reputation and cover up the scandalous and putrid financial dealings he perpetrated as Akwa Ibom INEC REC. This writer does not reckon with the so called Richard Peters. He is unworthy of any edification. But those who did this piece and offered him the entitlement of ownership are the real danger to the society. They do not encourage the cultivation of knowledge. Akpabio is reported to have written to his party that he is opting out of the rerun to enable him face his work as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. But rather than look at the propriety of the action, his traducers are busy chastising him and leveling allegations that he is hatching a plot to remove Igini. Akpabio has done what he is expected to do as a true party man by informing his party, the APC that it should not expect justice under Igini. The actions of Mike Igini in the 2019 general election which Akpabio was a victim of contrived machinations make that warning valid. Hurling tantrums and concocting falsehood to demonize Akpabio can only be viewed as their trademark of crying wolf while plotting invidious action against the people. The world has always been under burden with smart alecs like Mike Igini. Igini compromised the integrity of the elections in Akwa Ibom State, giving cause to unbridled public resentment against the electoral body. The attempt in this piece laden with perversion to decorate him with a garland of piety is either an act of ignorance or imbecility on the part of those who consider him for such nobility. He does not deserve it. Udeme Ankott writes in from Uyo.

I've read Falana's press release, it's expected as the defense lawyer. I remember in El Zakzaky's case when Falana said his client is almost going blind due to a medical condition that needs an urgent treatment. Zakzaky was eventually flown to India where attempts for his escape to an Arab country was made unsuccessfully. El finally got tired of his tricks and said he prefers Nigeria's medical abi DSS treatment to that of India. He was brought back. Everyone has been quiet on the matter since. Nobody remembers how DSS was abused over a character with penchant for extreme religiosity capable of causing national insecurity, and Falana hasn't apologized for misleading the public over the true condition of his client's health. We moved on as usual. So for me, on the Sowore matter esp regarding the courtroom saga, neither the DSS nor Falana should be trusted to say the whole truth. They'll only choose to recount the part of the story that favours them. This is when we need the press most, where investigative journalists take time to interview eyewitnesses randomly chosen to get the entire picture and report same, objectively. By now, we ought to read WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN THE HIGH COURT. But no, newspapers are lazily lifting speeches from both parties to report, leaving the helpless public to fill in the void and figure out what is the truth while accusations and counter-accusations continue. It's sad. #Aima |
This is what happens when a state government care less about the educational standard of public schools in the state. Oh they think qualitative education is by granting a free and compulsory educational system from primary up to the senior secondary school three? No no , because there is more to that. It is quite unfortunate that states such as oyo is investing over 23.85% percent of their total annual budget for the 2020 fiscal year in education while an oil rich state like Akwa ibom invests only 0.83% of its total budget on education. This alone goes a long way to prove that the state government cares less about the future of the Akwa ibom children studying in our public schools. Assessing the state of infrastructure of schools in the state, one can see that so many of them are decayed, dilapidated and does not fit into the environment of a standardized infrastructural renaissance to promote a qualitative learning atmosphere. No functional libraries, no equipped science laboratories, no workshops for technical education as we are currently facing crisis of unemployment in the state. It is rather unfortunate that people still sing praises of a failed government who are held bent on clamping down on opposition social media influencers who are criticising the negativities of the emmanuels' system of governance. I could recall sometime during the first term of the Emmanuel led administration particularly the day the governor commissioned the west itam sports centre which is currently a shadow of its own. The governor promised to construct ten model schools across the ten federal constituencies in the state each having a standardised educational facilities, Medical facilities, sports and recreational facilities (arena) similar to that of west Itam secondary school to help build up children in the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains of learning. But as i am speaking to you, no such project, i mean no single project of that calibre is going on anywhere in any locality of the state. Which i hope the government is not taking the future of our children for a ride. It is time to rise up as a people and ask questions about the poor welfare of education in the state. Any government who doesn't invest heavily in the education of its people in planting seeds of a porous and tensed society in future. Its high time the government redirect its investment efforts from other frivolous areas to the educational sector.. Education is the essential foundation for prosperity and opportunity. Which strengthens our democracy, enriches our civic life, and serves as a pathway to economic success. Education as we know help cultivate young people’s talent and creativity, encourages them to connect with other people, and inspires them to discover and analyze the world in which they live. Previous studies carried out on the relationship between economic growth and human capital development concluded that the availability of the requisite and qualitative educational infrastructure guarantees a prosperous economic growth. Therefore significant economic growth cannot be realized without appropriate development in human capital through dogged qualitative investment in education. I want to conclude by saying that the government needs to go back to the drawing board, rearrange its scale of preference thereby putting education first in its areas of development so as to guarantee a prosperous Akwa ibom we will be proud of in the near future. Plans by the PDP government in the Akwa Ibom state to clamp down on targeted APC social media influencers have been concluded. A Commissioner in the state government from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom State is coordinating the evil plans in collaboration with some compromised security agents. The targeted persons are to be persecuted for being critical of the inept and rudderless government in the state. The plan is to round them up, arraign in court on some trumped up charges, and remand them in prison custody. Some of the targets are to be rounded up this weekend and arraigned in court on Monday next week. By this statement, we are charging our comrades to remain undaunted in the struggle. Nobody should be intimidated or cowed. The evil plans to intimidate the populace into silence by the failed government in the state would fail in its entirety. As confirmed by the State lawmakers, 97% of the projects initiated by this government has failed and we have identified and located not less than four hundred of such failed and abandoned project. We are very committed to spotlighting all of them. Nothing and nobody can deter us. Obong Iniobong John Akwa Ibom State Chairman APC NATIONAL YOUTH CAUCUS.

The plot by the Department of State Security (DSS) and Governor Udom Emmanuel to secretly arraign a man identified as Michael Itok and send him to Prison was yesterday foiled at the Chief Magistrates’ Court premises, FULGA street, Uyo. Michael Itok has been in the custody of the DSS since October 7, 2019 when he was trailed and whisked away by unidentified persons suspected to be operatives of the DSS acting on the orders of the governor. He was abducted from his office on Nwaniba road by men who came in a Hilux truck with Akwa Ibom registration number KPD 427 AA and ever since his whereabouts have been unknown as enquiries to the Police, DSS and other security outfits have turned up negative responses, thus fueling rumours of his death. Trouble started for Michael Itok when he was alleged to have abandoned his employment with Governor Udom at Government House and took to his Facebook page to post news which Governor Udom has considered as nuisance. Michael Itok was today smuggled into the Court premises at exactly 12.05pm in an unmarked, tinted, black Toyota Hilux truck with registration No. AG216UYY with armed security dressed in anti-riot gear. The plot to have him arraigned secretly was foiled when the security operatives realized there was a team of Lawyers on hand to represent Mr. Itok in Court. He was represented by Imo E. Akpan, Esq, Anthony Udonsa, Esq and E.E. Philip, Esq. He was arraigned on a one count charge under the Akwa Ibom State Internal Security and Enforcement Law, 2009. The charge reads: “That you MICHAEL ITOK “M” and another now at large, sometimes in October, 2019 at 1000 units housing estate, Idu-Uruan, Uruan Local Government Area, within Uyo Magisterial District did *constitute yourself into a nuisance by publishing damaging and annoying articles on your Facebook page with the aim of harassing, blackmailing and bringing to disrepute His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and other staff of Akwa Ibom State Government House* and thereby commits an offence punishable under Section 6(1)(f) of Akwa Ibom State Internal Security and Enforcement Law, 2009”. He was remanded in prison immediately after the court session.

The official i met unknowingly to me turned out to be the State Coordinator of NYSC, Katsina State". The State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Ahidjo Yahaya lauded Miss Momoh for demonstrating impeccable character, true chauvinism and exceedingly empathetic spirit. By ETIM ETIM The perception that Senator Godswill Akpabio is a transformational leader is further strengthened by his plans to overhaul the NDDC. Leaders who serve as change agents are disruptive and they go against conventions. Such change creates turmoil and such leaders attract hate, controversies and spite. If Akpabio did not come into the scene, we wouldn't have known that somebody has been receiving a billion a month for years now, just for serving as a consultant. His job? To help the NDDC receive funding from the oil companies!! What a waste! We are also being told that a Senator has over 300 contracts from the NDDC. Just one Senator! I have been told that these startling revelations are mere tip of the iceberg of the NDDC Cesspool. The people of the Niger Delta region should come together to support the forensic audit being ordered into the affairs of this agency by the President. This audit will eventually lead to the overhaul and repositioning of the agency to better serve the people of our region. I should emphasize that the forensic audit is not about Chief Akpabio; nor is it targeted at any former chief executive or past management team of the Commission. The audit is not a witch-hunt exercise, rather it is a medical diagnosis of the several ailments that have plagued NDDC since inception. The auditors should therefore get to the bottom of all the issues in the NDDC. This is therefore the time for elders and leaders in the Niger Delta region to support the President's initiative to make the Commission work better.

The Court of Appeal today heard the appeal filed by the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 9, 2019 Governorship Election, Mr. Nsima Ekere. The Appeal was filed against the judgement of the Tribunal which dismissed his Petition on September 19, 2019. In a Notice of Appeal dated 7/10/2019, the Appellant formulated 28 grounds of appeal and distilled triable issues therefrom. At the hearing before the 5 member panel of Justices, Counsel to the Appellants Jubrin Okutepa, SAN leading Prof. J. O. Amupitan, SAN and a team of lawyers representing Mr. Nsima Ekere and APC told the Appellate Court, "the trial Tribunal engaged in technical justice throughout the proceedings without examining the merits of the case of the Petitioners and avalanche of exhibits before it". He said the "Appellants case was slaughtered on the abattoir of technicalities" and urged on the Court of Appeal to upturn the Tribunal's decision and do substantial justice by nullifying the elections. Adumbrating further, Okutepa, SAN decried a situation where the trial Tribunal sat on appeal over its own rulings earlier made in the course of trial. He submitted that the entire trial was perverse and a travesty of justice and ought not to be allowed to stand. On their part, Respondents Counsel in unison urged on the Court of Appeal to discountenance the case of the Appellate and affirm the decision of the trial Tribunal. Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN argued that the Appellants case on appeal reinforced the reason for dismissing the Petition in the first place. He argued that the Appellants could not have succeeded with only 11 witnesses. Counsel to 2nd Respondent Tayo Oyetibo, SAN also speaking in same vein said the Appellants' case was an after thought and should be dismissed. He urged the Court to affirm the judgement of the Tribunal. Sylva Ogwuemoh, SAN also urged on the Court to dismiss the Appellants case and affirm the decision of the Tribunal. The Court of Appeal thereafter adjourned the Appeal to a date to be communicated to all Parties in the Appeal. #JusticeForONE #JusticeForALL |
Our attention has been drawn to a press release by the Ijaw Youth Council, accusing the Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, of undue interference in the NDDC affairs and calling for his sack by the President. Apparently, the avowed commitment of the Hon. Minister to reform, restructure and reengineer the Commission to achieve its core mandate is ruffling and unsettling some feathers within the sub region and as such,he is bound to face some distractions and resistance by those who prefer the Commission to remain business as usual. For the Presidential order for forensic probe of the Commission since its inception in 2001 to be carried out without compromise or interference by any person or group of persons,a new acting management team was totally necessary. You can't allow the bureaucrats who had been part of the activities to be probed to oversee the probe and expect the expect the process not to be compromised. To that extent, the appointment and subsequent inauguration of the acting management team was in order and we hereby endorse it. Accusing the Hon. Minister of scheming to use the new acting management team to achieve self aggrandizement is,to say the least, pettiness of the highest order. To us, the decision by the President to delegate supervision of the Commission to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs was well advised. The Ijaw Youth Council must appreciate the bold and tough decisions and steps taken so far by the Hon minister of Niger Delta Affairs to reposition the NDDC.The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is the most suitable ministry to supervise the affairs of the Commission and this must be sustained. The Hon. Minister didn't award any water HYACINTH CONTRACT as alleged by the Ijaw Youth Council. The water hyacinth contacts he ordered the immediate past acting MD of the NDDC to pay were awarded by the Commission many months before his assumption of office as Minister and the employment exercise by the Commission had been suspended by Hon minister. We therefore, see no reason why the Ijaw Youth Council could make such allegations against him. Niger deltans must support and encourage the Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs to fast track the development of the sub region. With Senator Akpabio as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, we have no doubt that the East West road shall be completed and commissioned within his tenure. The running mate to Gov. Yahaya Bello, Chief Edward Onoja in the forthcoming Nov. 16, governorship election, would be sworn in on Saturday as the new Deputy Governor of the state. NAN reports that the seven-member Judicial Panel of Enquiry was set up by the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, on Aug. 26 to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct leveled against Achuba had earlier submitted its report to the House. Chairman of the panel, Barrister John Baiyeshea, flanked by six other members of the panel, submitted the report to the Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole, at plenary. Baiyeshea said the committee members had done their best, “We have done the best we know how to do according to law and evidence presented to us. “The report is in three volumes; volume one contains all documents forwarded to us by the Chief Judge that he received from the assembly, and additional reports made available to the committee. “Volume two contains the evidence given during the proceeding and volume three contains reviews of the committee and recommendations,” he said. The chairman, however, declined to reveal the position of the committee, saying doing so would amount to violation of constitutional provisions that guided the setting up of the panel. Receiving the report, the Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole, expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge for appointing men of proven integrity as members of the panel. Kolawole explained that the task of ensuring good governance required collective efforts of all, and thanked the members for the timely presentation of the report. “We shall go into the reports thoroughly, look into the recommendations and do justice to it,” saying that the committee had gone into the annals of history in Nigeria as the first to perform a thorough work devoid of interferences. In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Ahmed Mohammad (APC- Ankpa I), said the exercise followed due process and thanked everyone for being responsive to the development of Kogi. NAN reports that the committee which was inaugurated on Aug. 26 with a 90-day duration within which to complete the assignment and submit it’s report, completed the job in 49 days. ~(NAN)

By Ukeme Idiong Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, this morning shunned a meeting of all governors of Oil Producing states with President Muhammadu Buhari, in the presidential villa. The meeting which was at the instance of the governors to once and for all settle some grey areas in the recently released names of the yet to be constituted board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), saw the Akwa Ibom state represented by the Deputy governor, Moses Ekpo. Sources informed peesreporters.com that, the absence of the Akwa Ibom State governor from the all important meeting, after he hosted some military top brass in the state, might not be unconnected with his strain relationship with former boss and benefactor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who was in attendance at the meeting as the Minister in charge of Niger Delta Affairs. It was also gathered that, his fellow governors from the zone, could not hide their shock at his absence from the all important meeting. It would be recalled that, few days after the announcement of NDDC board members by the Presidency, the Akwa Ibom state governor was in the fore front of those agitating for the cancellation of the appointments.

By Maxwell, Uyo In 2013, the Faculty of Pharmacy block in the University of Uyo was set ablaze by rioting students. Information gathered from some sources had it that the protest which led to the destruction of school property was triggered by increment in school fees, but the remote cause of razing the building, I learnt, was Pharmacy students attitude towards non pharmacy students who intended using their classrooms for night class. Same issue occurred some weeks ago, students of English were locked out of same block by pharmacy students, this led to a little fracas between the two sides. But the school management kept quiet. It seems history is about to repeat itself. Examinations have started, due to shortage of classrooms in the town and annex campuses, students have to share halls to do their night reading. But yesterday, Pharmacy students locked out non pharmacy students in the same block. Same thing happened at College of Health Sciences in which non medical students were locked out. The aggrieved students protested for a while, some had to return to their hostels disappointed. The school management is silent about this. The students are not fools, they have emotions, they can be angry and anger can cause anything, but they are Tuskers, and must display 'ivory' attitudes. Recently, the hostel accommodation fee has been raised from N8,000 to N12,000 when no facility has been repaired, no room has been repainted, toilets are deplorable and many socket outlets are not working. Yet we're students who must be proud ambassadors of our school. Sometimes, too much loyalty kills one's sense of judgement. But I'm a Tusker, I must remain silent in the face of oppression. The student Union is silent about the matter, activities go on as per… but there are times when silence becomes betrayal. In my Tusker's Republic, school resumes on a fixed date, three or four weeks later, departments are yet to release lecture timetable, lecturers are yet to give out course outline. But once exams timetable is out, some lecturers will use an hour to lecturer four to five topics. Some even fix tests and classes on Sundays just to clear their conscience. Many bring into exams topics they never taught. And then you'll wonder why in a class of 170 students, 60 fail a course, and the result is still posted online. They say the three core values of a university are: learning, research and community service. But what happens to a school without a bookshop and a printing press? It means research and look for where to get it published. I say again, too much loyalty kills the truth. There are times when silence becomes betrayal. The school teaches us virtues such as honesty and integrity, they punish us for cheating in exams, but same school teaches us to lie, to say things that are not as if they are, so as to portray a good image of the school when Nigerian University Commission pays a visit. Same school has no facility, but once NUC decides to pay a visit, then everything is provided within the span of two weeks. Buildings repainted, fans in classrooms, fixed, office blocks, arranged. Then we blame the government of corruption. Uniuyo is a brand, I'll protect it. I'm protecting it. They say the pen is mightier than the sword, I do not write to castigate, or to implicate and indict, I write to correct. Annex campus is now a cattle ranch, either you watch your steps or step on cattle dungs, the students have posted and written a lot about it, nothing has changed, we're tuskers, we must protect our brand. Think about it..

The time has come for us as stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom Project spotlight all the failed and abandoned projects by the current government to enable the public pass a fair judgement on its performance. Beyond billboards, pages of newspapers; where else can one locate projects successfully completed by this government. This is the so called International market in Itu local government. It was conceived and used as a campaign tool during the electioneering period and has since been abandoned. Four years and five months in office and with the over four trillion naira accrued to the coffers of Akwa Ibom state Government, all we can see everywhere are failed and abandoned projects. Before PDP apologists would call Senator Akpabio's world class projects monuments, they should point at one project initiated and completed by this government. It is only fair to conclude that this government is clueless, inept and rudderless. #ExposingTheManyDeceitsOfUdom'sGovernment #AReflectionOnAkpabio'sEraOfUncommonTranformation

There was a successful Medical Doctor with a flourishing private practice. He was also a very good and responsible family man. One morning, as he was driving to work, he saw a secondary school girl on her way to school. In his magnanimity, he offered to give her lift. But he made the costly and destiny altering mistake of referring to her as a young girl, to her hearing. She was young in age but wasn't spiritually young or naive by any stretch of imagination. She felt insulted to be so referred by a spiritually empty and powerless man. So, she vowed to deal with him with her demonic powers. The demonically inspired seduction began immediately. The good family man was incapable of resisting this powerful demon possessed girl. He surrendered and tasted her forbidden fruit. That was the beginning of the end of an enviable career and exemplary family life. After being spiritually manipulated into making love to her, he was left with a boil- like wound in his manhood. The boil came with crazy sensations which could only be assuaged by indulging in sexual intercourse. The once self respecting and responsible boss started molesting his nurses. Female staff started leaving in droves and in one of those moments of escapades, the wife coincidentally visited the clinic to discover the unbelievable as she entered his office without knocking the door. Her darling husband was right before her eyes in an intense moment of pleasure with this small girl. Marriage ended, medical practice failed. A thriving career cut short by forces beyond human comprehension. I'm sure those who heard the stories of his serial and crazy acts of sexual molestations, adulterous escapades and marital infidelity blamed him, and rightly so. In fact, they supported the wife to call it quits and were happy that the "Sexual Harassment Centre" misnamed Clinic had finally closed (up) shop. You can't blame them for reacting that way. The man's misfortunes were deserving and self inflicted. He should have been responsible enough to zip his trousers outside his home. Unfortunately, as humans, they could only see the symptoms, not the actual cause of the disease which ate up the man's promising future. Even the man himself was too blinded and doomed to seek help from God. Stellamaris(I'm not sure of both the name and the spelling) completed her secondary school and was offered admission into Ibom University. She was still demon possessed and probably more powerful and vicious than when she effortlessly ruined the Medical Doctor as a mere secondary school student. On transit to the University for the first time, she met returning students of the school. She asked them questions about the school and in particular, her potential lecturers. She enquired to know the principled and the womanizers among them. The name of a certain Dr Osakwe became prominent. She came prepared and looking for him. They finally met and the meeting expectedly marked the beginning of a sizzling love affair between them. Beyond her demonic powers which she was said to be inborn, Stellamaris was a young lady of sublime beauty and irresistible looks. These, coupled with her demonically powered seductive abilities would turn a disciplined man into a helpless prey at the drop of a hat. Surprisingly, unlike the unfortunate Medical Doctor, Stellamaris seemed to have genuinely fallen in love with Dr Osakwe. Her demonic powers neither harmed nor frustrated him. At least it wasn't obvious. She might have been waiting for an auspicious time to bare her fangs. After all, she needed him alive and intact to earn undeserved marks and grades. While their affair lasted, he was as vulnerable as an innocent baby in the custody of a blood thirsty wolf. Suddenly, there was a protracted industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU). As a result, student Stellamaris travelled home while the randy, philandering and unbelieving Dr Osakwe remained in his base. Dr Osakwe neither believed nor respected the gospel of Jesus Christ. I think he was something close to an atheist. In the course of the long ASUU strike, a friend invited him for a meeting of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship. He honoured the invitation because the name was suggestive of a gathering of businessmen, not that of the "irritating" born again Christians. It turned out that the power and mercy of God through His spoken Word located him at the meeting and he surrendered his miserable, decaying and troubled life to Christ. He became very zealous and grew fast in the Lord. By the time school resumed, a changed Dr Osakwe had gained reasonable mileage in the faith. His conversion angered his sex partner, Stellamaris who attempted to invoke her demonic powers to either harm or get him to backslide. In one of those encounters, God used Dr Osakwe to deliver Stellamaris and convert her to the faith. The foregoing is the summary of my faint memory of the novel "Broken Chains" written by Dr Chris Egharevba. I and my classmates read it around 2000 when it was first published as part of one of our elective courses which was taught by the author. Its characterization, plot, settings and the way it was taught by the author made us believe the novel was a true life story written as a fiction. As one of its possible themes, it explores the spiritual dimensions of some acts of indiscretion perpetrated by people. It portrays the helplessness of human efforts and discipline in the face of the faintest spiritual manipulation or encounter. It demonstrates the overbearing power of the spiritual over the physical, human affairs and conduct. Above all, by Dr Osakwe's deliverance of Stellamaris from the bondage of demonic powers and her conversion to the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the author was able to establish the superiority of the power of God over demonic forces. If you have read The Broken Chains or this poor attempt at summarizing its contents, you should be asking yourself how many Stellamaris are parading our campuses. We ought to wonder how many magnanimous and hitherto disciplined men like the unfortunate Medical Doctor in our society have been wrecked by Stellamaris and Co. Remember as stated in the part one of this article, Iam not in any way trying to excuse misbehavior. All Iam driving at, is the need to look at issues from different perspectives before passing judgements and the desirability of creating room for repentance, rehabilitation, restoration and reintegration after the judgements. Some of them are victims of forces beyond them. Some smokers, drunkards, womanizers etc may be under demonic spells. It may be very easy for those operating at levels or in environments where they commit evil by consciously going for it. It's a different ball game for those who find themselves in environments which make them constant targets of the kind of evil Stellamaris distributes. There are many female undergraduates who decide ab initio to exchange their bodies for marks. They are both unwilling and incapable of reading to pass examinations. They don't even like the idea of paying cash as an option(as unethical as that is). Payment of cash, for them is tantamount to a loss when their bodies are readily available. They die a million times when female lecturers are assigned to take some courses. Recently, a lecturer told a story of a female student who submitted an empty result sheet enclosed with her nude picture and phone number. Thank God he is a Spirit filled lecturer who was able to rebuke her immoral action. To expect most of our lecturers to constantly overcome this level of onslaught is to expect a near impossibility unless God takes control of their hearts. For now, we can only pray God not to lead our sincerely disciplined lecturers and male students to temptation and to deliver them from the evils in "pantless" short skirts and "braless" sleeveless and body hugging blouses. Please those who also read "Broken Chains" are free to oblige us more details. Omen Bassey 12/10/2019 |
By Clement Ikpatt | October, 2019 Revenue coming into Akwa Ibom State from statutory allocations and from other sources have increased significantly since 2015. Akwa Ibom State is in top three of the most funded States in Nigeria. Yet, since Udom Emmanuel became governor, there are no improvements in quality of life indices, education standards are on a free fall, good public utility and social security services are totally absent, etc. The distress alarm has been sounding so loudly that nothing by the Udom Emmanuel led Akwa Ibom State Government is averagely working. It is obvious that most Akwa Ibomites were better off in 2015 than they are today. Perhaps, we need a BBC documentary on Udom Emmanuel's failure to jolt into the reality that all is not well with Akwa Ibom State. Udom Emmanuel Destroys Health Care Delivery System About four years ago, Udom Emmanuel inherited a state-of-the-art Ibom Specialist Hospital complete with a team of medical experts. Because it was built by Sen. Godswill Akpabio, he refused to pay the experts and other workers. Also, he left some of the equipment to rot away, but was pressured to reopen a shell of what the hospital used to be. About two years ago, Udom Emmanuel lied that 100 container loads of medical equipment had been bought for Akwa Ibom hospital and health centers. He boasted that 25 of the 100 containers were already offloaded for hospitals in the State. Yet, the best of Udom Emmanuel's propaganda hospitals is worse than any community medical center in the civilized world. Citizens Forced To Beg For Help These are how come most Akwa Ibomites with serious medical issues are forced to beg profusely and queue for help from Udom Emmanuel. No hospital in Akwa Ibom State can successfully handle their serious and critical health matters; they are too dirt poor to afford any good medical service away from home. When Udom Emmanuel is sober enough to give help to the sick and dying, the beneficiary must be a verified PDP supporter, go through a long and winding bureaucracy and must glorify no other person than the "onlygod" governor. Nobody will beg Udom Emmanuel to sponsor health care trips away from Akwa Ibom State if the Ibom Specialist Hospital is working well. But, Udom Emmanuel loves to be begged. Nobody will care to launch an online campaign for donation of funds for medical bills if Udom Emmanuel can facilitate just one effectively working hospital or provide any social safety net for medically challenged Akwa Ibomites. But, Udom Emmanuel must be signified and dignified no matter which method is used. In just four years, Udom Emmanuel has written his own autobiography as a clueless and habitually lying governor. Now, he is doubling down to become the most callous Akwa Ibom leader using weapons of poverty, poor healthcare, condescension and petty politics against Akwa Ibomites. |
The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is to partner with Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) in the development of infrastructure, provision of health facilities and employment creation in the Niger Delta Region. The Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio, CON, said this when the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission Engr. Chidi Izuwah paid a courtesy call to the Ministry on Thursday, 10th October, 2019 in Abuja. According to Senator Akpabio, the collaboration will chart a new future for the region and ensure that the Niger Delta youths do not go back to the Creeks. Adding that it will also help in the reconstruction of accessible roads in the region. The Minister noted that Water Hyacinth has brought a great menace to the people of Niger Delta by killing their aquatic lives, increasing poverty in the region and making it impossible for vessels to navigate the water ways. He added that it has also affected the Education and Security of the region. In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of State, Senator Omotayo Alasoadura said that the Government need the expertise of the private sector apart from their money as there is nowhere government can provide everything expected in the society. He also charged the Commission to identify different areas they can explore for the development of the Niger Delta region and take the lead by bringing all the stakeholders together to chart the way forward. Speaking further, he said the infrastructural decay is not peculiar to the Niger Delta Region alone adding that the Ministry is ready to cooperate with the Commission to ensure that the people of the Niger Delta Region have good infrastructure, education, and conducive environment to engage in their daily economic and fishing activities. Earlier the Director-General/CEO of (ICRC) Engr. Chidi Izuwah, said that the Commission is proposing a summit on revolutionizing infrastructure delivery in the Niger Delta region through Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) which should be convened by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in collaboration with Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the (ICRC) to showcase and highlight to investors, financiers and development actors the critical infrastructure value chain opportunities in the region. According to the (ICRC) Director-General, “addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges will require sustained expenditure of over US$30 billion per year over the next decade, or about 12 percent of GDP”. He added that about US$15 billion is needed for Federal infrastructure alone, most of it for capital spending and power. “Given the huge amounts needed and the drive necessary for development, the Nigerian Government does not have the requisite resources to achieve this on its own and has thus among other options embarked upon the use of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), for the infrastructural development," he added.

By Etim Etim Nigeria’s oil industry is understandably filled with expectations over the agenda of our new Oil Minister. Many industry executives and stakeholders believe that Timipre Sylva, sworn-in as the Petroleum Minister six weeks ago, has the gravitas to fix many of the challenges that have beset the sector for decades. Crude oil is central to the Nigerian economy. We are the largest producer in Africa and sixth largest in the world; and with a daily quota production of two million barrels, crude oil account for over 90% of the nation’s foreign earnings. In this year’s federal budget, the country expects to earn N3.73 trillion (over $100 billion) from crude oil sales alone. Our oil reserves as at 2011 was 37.2 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, while gas reserves as at last year was 193.35 trillion cubic feet. A major feature of the industry in the six decades since commercial exploration and production of crude oil began is its dominance by foreign-owned oil producers who dictate the costs and profitability of the business. This means key decisions that affect important aspects of the industry are taken in Houston, The Hague and other cities of the world where the oil majors are headquartered. No Nigerian is part of these decisions. In other words, although the industry is at the heart of our economy, Nigerians are not in the driving seat of its operations. Such abnormalities have created huge problems and distortions in the industry in particular, and the economy as a whole. An important item on the minister’s agenda is the need to get the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill and the Petroleum Industry Fiscal Bill passed and signed into law. These bills provide financial and governance framework to regulate and strengthen the industry, minimize inefficiency, ineffectiveness, rent-seeking tendencies, inequity, secrecy and corruption in the country’s petroleum industry. The Bills propose to reform the governing institutional framework of the Nigerian petroleum industry by setting up an independent regulatory agency, unbundling the NNPC into two limited liability companies and setting specific policy roles for the Minister of Petroleum Resources, amongst others. The loss in investments due to the absence of these laws is huge, estimated, for example at N1.74 trillion in 2013 alone. The minister will be working with the National Assembly to push through these reforms so as to enhance investment inflow into the sector. The nagging and protracted problem of gas flaring will also attract the attention of the minister. Huge volumes of gas, about 800 million standard cubic feet daily, by-products of oil explorations, are flared in the Niger Delta by the international oil companies (IOCs). It poisons the air, causes various illnesses and constitutes a huge economic loss to the country. Previous administrations have tried unsuccessfully, through moral suasion and imposition of fines, to get the industry to process the gas into liquefied natural gas for export. At the same time, the irresponsible drilling practices of the IOCs have polluted the waters and land in the Niger Delta, destroying the people’s means of livelihood and further driving them into poverty. The minister will continue to pursue the Nigeria gas Flare Commercialization Programme launched in 2016. The programme recognizes the wastes and noxiousness in gas flaring. Specifically, the federal government has ratified the Paris Climate Change Agreement, and is a signatory to the Global Gas Flaring Partnership (GGFR) principles for global flare-out by 2030 whilst committing to a national flare-out target by year 2020. It requires third party investments, and so the legal and commercial issues must be clear in order to attract investments. In the downstream side, Nigerians continue to expect uninterrupted supply of refined products at the pumps. The Buhari administration is the only administration in the last 25 years that has not recorded acute fuel scarcity. The four government-owned refineries are well passed their useful lives, and so all those intermittent turn around maintenance might just not lead anywhere. Rather, the government should encourage and support the Dangote Petrochemical complex being built in Lagos to commence operation as scheduled. With capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily to 50 million litres of petrol and 17 million litres of diesel. These are enough to meet domestic needs and provide for exports. In the meantime, the government should face the issue of petrol subsidy and do away with it once and for all. So far, N600 billion (about $2 billion) has been spent this year to support the N145 pump price. It would be better used to fund roads, railway or some other infrastructures. The minister will also have to look into the issue of local contents and abuse of this very important policy. Are companies supposedly owned by Nigerians, registered offshore like in the British Virgin Islands, qualified for local contents benefits? Are Nigerians having a fair deal from the Contents policy? It is notable that Mr. Timipre Sylva is well aware of these issues and he’s capable of addressing them in a methodical manner. A former governor of the core Niger Delta state of Bayelsa, the minister understands the challenges and complexities of our oil industry. He’s used to taking difficult decisions. So far, the minister has set out with the right foot, engaging with OPEC and non-OPEC partners, striving to ensure, among other things, that our daily quota does not slip below the threshold. In his first 30 days in office, the minister has already held a retreat with his team and unveiled his roadmap and deliverables for the oil and gas sector. At the retreat held in Lagos and attended by heads of departments and agencies in the ministry, Chief Sylva listed his priority areas to include: Implementation of the reduction of Federal Government’s equity stakes in Joint Venture (JV) participation to 40 per cent; Curbing petroleum products cross border leakages; Completion of the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme; Increasing crude oil production to 3million barrels per day and Reducing the current cost of crude oil production by at least five per cent. Other priority areas include: Aggressive promotion of the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB); Promotion of inland basin exploration activities; Promotion of deep offshore exploration activities; Collaboration with the private sector to aggressively increase domestic refining capacity and Working assiduously to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s vision of raising 100 million of Nigerians out of poverty. This roadmap underscores Chief Sylva’s capacity and energy to drive the industry up to the Next Level. Etim is a journalist |

Allegedly “revokes” already sold land and converts same The Paramount Ruler of Uyo and Chairman Traditional Rulers’ Council (TRC), Uyo His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Okon is reported to be enmeshed in a land grabbing mess involving multiple sales, land grabbing and illegal “revocation”. Reports have it that owners of undeveloped properties around his domain in Offot Ukwa Clan Nwaniba road axis, Nsukara and parts of Osongama now stand the risk of losing their properties to dubious land agents who are allegedly acting at the behest of the monarch. One of the victims has taken up the issue with the royal father and demands an immediate vacation of his property. The victim, Mr. Emmanuel Archibong Essien says he bought a plot of land in an area known as Urua Ntia in 2011 and paid the consideration and other accompaniments. He claims that at the time of the purchase in 2011, the monarch who was Clan Head of Offot Ukwa encouraged him to make the payment as the transaction was genuine. He said few days ago when he visited the plot, he discovered some excavation on the land. Upon enquiries, he was told that the Paramount Ruler would be in the best position to know. His visit to the Paramount Ruler was eye-opening. The Paramount Ruler pointedly told him he had “revoked” the land and would make a refund of the exact amount he bought the land in 2011 to him. Our reporter cited a copy of demand letter addressed to the Paramount Ruler and copied to the Commissioner of Police and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Akwa Ibom State dated 3/10/2019 written by Mr. Emmanuel Archibong Essien through his Solicitors, Cardinalli Chambers & Co. In the letter, the Lawyers expressed “sore embarrassment” at the action of the Paramount Ruler. It reads: “…we are sorely embarrassed that our client is made to go through the present situation at the hands of no less a personality than the Paramount Ruler of Uyo – a supposed father of all!” The letter continued, “That our client has not sold or authorized any person to enter into his property for any reason whatsoever. Any such entrance howsoever authorized is clearly illegal (trespass) and will attract legal consequences. The Lawyers argued that, “… Paramount Ruler /Traditional Ruler has no powers under any Law in Nigeria to “revoke”, let alone authorize trespass into our client’s plot of land situated in an urban centre. They concluded that the action of the monarch was “puerile and a desecration of the seat of Paramount Ruler. “Your Royal Majesty, owing to perceived utility value of the Traditional institution in nation and peace building, some of us have been in the forefront of clamouring for specific constitutionally defined roles for Traditional Rulers, and we dare say such contemplation did not include land grabbing, meddlesomeness and such other felonious dispositions seen today. It has been widely reported that purchase of land in Nwaniba axis of Offot Ukwa Clan is usually a subject of controversy as purchasers are subjected to multiples sales and other dubious tendencies. All efforts to reach the monarch for his comment failed as enquiries made to his phone were unanswered. |
Fellow Nigerians, As we celebrate Nigeria’s autarky at 59,we must reflect on the urgent need to pull Nigeria out of its marshmallow of centrifugal excrescences that currently weighs against our centripetal agglutinant. The Sisyphean challenge to the pax nigeriana of our dreams, more than anything else, still remains our malodorous, putrescent, frankeinstous and opprobrious drift into a cocoon of ethnocentric chauvinism and syphilitic parapoism. Until we extirpate the hereinbefore mentioned gorgon medusa, all efforts at nation building amounts to vacuous sciamachy. Best wishes, Nigeria.

The media was awash in the past few days with unverified allegations of contract inflation by the Coordinator /Special Adviser to the President on Amnesty, Prof. Charles Quaker Dokubo over inflated the contract sum to the tune of #400,000,000 ( Four Hundred Million Naira ) meant for empowerment of Niger Delta Women in Coastal Fishing. Citizens Quest like other groups and individuals read with dismay the allegations and what seemed like evidence through her social media platforms sent by concerned citizens, but decided to pay a visit to the Amnesty Office to search for the truth with verified information. This is to put on a scale the allegations against the claims of the Agency. Consequent upon the above, the team led by it's National Coordinator, Oby Ndukwe met with Prof Charles Dokubo and his Media Aide, Murphy Ganagana who laid bare all the process and documents involved in the said controversial Contract. 1. The Contract sum is #400,000,000 @#4,000,000 per Delegate for 100 delegates ( VAT inclusive ). This amount per delegate includes: 1. Training and Mentorship, Accommodation, Feeding, Transportation, Land Acquisition for building of Storage and Preservative facilities, Professional fees for Trainers and Mentors, and take off Cash for the Trainees. 2. An Outboard Engine ( Yahama 8HP engine ), Small Fiber Fishing Boat, Fishing net, Rope for Net, Fishing Hooks, Rope for Hooks, Marine ropes, Life ring, Life Vest, Fire extinguisher ( 5kg ), Paddle, Fire Bucket. Our findings so far reveal that there is no such amount of money for the Procurement of olden wooden canoes and paddles. According to the Amnesty Boss, the profit from the Contract is little or nothing compared to the aporoved standard for the Award of such contracts. "Here, no contractor can reap a profit of more than 15% of the total contract value", Dokubo said. But, it doesn’t end here, Citizens Quest will further visit the various areas and delegates to actually ascertain the position of things and how the delegates feel about the program. #JoinUs as we continue in our search of the Truth. #CitizensQuest #Search4TheTruth #C4Urself

AKWA SAVINGS AND LOANS LTD AT THE THRESHOLD OF TOTAL COLLAPSE AND GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL'S INDUSTRIALIZATION PROGRAM. It is a universally acknowledge truth that industrialization is successful where there is a strong financial institution. Unfortunately, the reverse is the case in Akwa Ibom State as our Governor Udom Emmanuel is very busy with his industrialization program when our state government owned bank, Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd is at the threshold of total collapse. Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd has a very low capital base and the bank is burdened with high profile debts from politicians who are very close friends with the governor and other top government functionaries. These debtors' relationship with the government has made them untouchable hence incapacitates debts recovery efforts by the bank. Recently, staffers and retired staff of the bank protested non payment of salaries and pensions of two years. As its name implies, Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd is supposed to offer both credit facility and expert advice to industrialists in Akwa Ibom State. The question therefore is, how the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel will address and reconcile the hard realities in Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd with his industrialization agenda. The governor worked and served at the apex management level of Zenith Bank and he should know the roles banks play in the success of industries. Furthermore, it is the highest level of disservice and insincerity to Akwa Ibom State that her one and only bank, Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd is not allowed to partake and contribute her quota in the Akwa Ibom industrialization project due to her travails sanctioned by the government of the day. Mr. Bassey Mfon Awah is Publicity Secretary, Akwa Ibom APC Youth Congress.
