Abdulrazak Gurnah was born on 20 December 1948[2] in the Sultanate of Zanzibar (now part of present-day Tanzania).[3] He went to Britain as a student in 1968,[4] after fleeing Zanzibar at 18 to escape persecution of Arab citizens during the Zanzibar Revolution.[5] He initially studied at Christ Church College, Canterbury, whose degrees were at the time awarded by the University of London.[6] He then moved to the University of Kent, where he earned his PhD in 1982.[3] From 1980 to 1983, Gurnah lectured at the Bayero University Kano in Nigeria. He was a professor and the director of graduate studies at the University of Kent's department of English until his retirement.[5][additional citation(s) needed] His main academic interest is in postcolonial writing and in discourses associated with colonialism, especially as they relate to Africa, the Caribbean and India. |
I see a lot of people here are still nursing the believe that covid19 is a scam. Some call it Plandemic or Scamdemic. You need to go visit all the government hospital in Lagos to see how people are wailing and begging for bed. So many people are on admission and the beds are not available. Even the health workers are getting tired. The new strain is more contagious and destructive. It is no longer the nemesis ofmthe rich and powerful again. Poor folks are now in the net. Lets be careful and prayerful. May the good Lord help us all. |

While the qualities listed for Benita seems attractive compared to Susan, I will suggest you wait a little more for her. She just entered university and haven't experienced life as a lady. She may just change her mind seeing other younger guys with greater prospects and from rich homes. Time will tell if she has that true love to endure temptations and still prefer you to all else. On the Susan Lady, its a Capital NO from all said about her. Except you prefer to live the rest of your life in misery and regret. Remember your family will walk away after the wedding day. Benita is your best bet but if you feel her parents won't permit her to marry while in school, wait for her or find someone else BETTER THAN HER who's ready and LOVE YOU. |
Ayemileto:I agree with you that good portion of their cars are not beautiful. Hiring a a graphic artist to design a logo is cool and acceptable but not to design panels and shapes. It goes beyond beautiful shapes oo |

Life is worthwhile if you learn. Life is worthwhile if you try. Life is worthwhile if you stay. And life is worthwhile if you care.” These are the words Victor Ogomebunam Ekwueme lives by everyday. After battling with depression for a while following a loss of most of his eyesight to a rare condition known as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), Victor keeps learning, trying, staying and caring. Victor Ekwueme is an IT Consultant at Super Digital Highways Ltd, a Lagos-based system IT company. In his five years at the company till date, he has helped various clients install and modify the software they use for their day to day operations, using Python. His deep understanding of the programming language has also led him to partner with Python Nigeria and WAVE Academies to create a programme that would train kids of 13 years and above on the concept of Python. “I am teaching the WAVE Academies staff first on data analysis. Starting from August, we will begin training children from 13 and above generally on Python. With the way the world is going, they might need a little bit of knowledge of Python even if they might not eventually go into IT,” Victor tells Techpoint. Victor’s story of rising above his visual impairment to continue in his career path as a software consultant and trainer is one that is very inspiring. He shares his journey to discovering tech, living with an eye condition and working despite his constraint with us. An introduction to computer science Victor was born into a family of scholars. His father is the renowned professor of music and Nollywood actor, Laz Ekwuemeand his mother was a professor of music education. “My dad was actually the first professor of Music in Nigeria, West Africa even,” he recalls proudly with a wide smile on his face. “We lived in the University of Lagos (Unilag) growing up. So I grew up being one of the professors’ children.” When Victor was five years old, he moved to the US when his mum had to do her PhD. He returned to Nigeria five years later and enrolled at the International School Lagos where he completed his secondary school education. “My eyesight was not bad then so I went around like every normal person. But when I was seven years old, I noticed that I couldn’t see properly in the evening, from around 6 PM or 7 PM.” As a young boy, Victor’s interest in computers started with playing games on his father’s computer. Then he went further to learn DOS commands when his dad’s personal assistant gave him a diskette containing the commands. After completing his secondary school education, he enrolled at the Unilag Computer Centre for a diploma in Data Processing. “That year, I learnt different programming languages, word processing, system analysis and design as well as communication skills. This paved my way into computer science as my choice of course when I gained admission into Unilag in 1998.” After bagging a degree in computer science from the University of Lagos in 2002 and completing his compulsory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) year, he enrolled at the Nottingham University, England in 2004 for a master’s degree in Information Technology. “I actually have two master’s degrees. I got the second one in Intelligence Computational Systems in 2009 from the University of Dundee, Scotland.” Retinitis Pigmentosa hit and depression followed Fast forward to 2012, Victor began working at C2G Consulting, a Lagos-based SAP company, after he returned to Nigeria in 2011. While working at the company, he noticed that his eyesight was deteriorating and his productivity at work took a major hit. “I realized that I couldn’t see my laptop screen and stuff on paper anymore. That kind of scared me a bit and it affected my productivity. My doctors in England told me that something like this ‘may’ happen. That the problem might deteriorate as I got older but I was hoping it wouldn’t happen.” In 2012, he was advised to resign. And he slipped into depression shortly after. “In November 2013, I went back to England for a medical checkup and I was told that there’s no cure for my condition but it could potentially get worse. So they gave me some medication to retard its deterioration.” Still depressed, as a result of feeling helpless due to his condition, Victor returned to Nigeria not knowing what to do with his life. “It was tiring for me to just stay at home and do nothing but feel sorry for myself. As a Christian, I went into fasting and prayer. I prayed for strength. Not long after, an old friend of mine walked into my house and offered me a job at his company.” That company, Super Digital Highways Ltd is where Victor currently works. Getting back to work without his eyesight wasn’t easy. He had a lot to catch up on and he had to be very dependent on other people to get things done. He got an intern to help him when he needed any assistance. “I could still type, I had been typing since I was 17 years old but I had forgotten how to code. That’s the thing about depression, it retards your mind in the sense that you forget what you have learnt and if you’re not careful and remain in that state, it gets even worse.” “Anyway, I had to take some courses online to refresh my memory. I went back to introductory courses in computer science before it all started coming back.” https://techpoint.africa/2019/07/31/victor-ekwueme-feature/

With this thinking towards other tribes and people, do you actually expect them to vote or accept any man from your tribe to be in power? If you continue to show this naked hatred and sense of superiority over other people you'll never get power anywhere and at anytime I am sure you will be here in few weeks time shouting Biafra and victimization. If Igbo continue to play politics of bitterness they'll never get a nod to take the seat of presidency in Nigeria. Let's be careful and play politics with wisdom. The Osborne Towers in Lagos where evil men pay Two hundred and Fifty Million of our stolen money annually is the issue of discussion today. Chief Peter Obi and a few others are the occupants of this evil apartment known as Osborne Towers. Sure, at 20 Million Naira a month, Chief Peter Obi has three apartments in the towers! Now here is the real information, each of the apartments has four bedrooms and two sitting rooms. Why will Chief Peter Obi have three apartments at the Towers meaning he has twelve bedrooms and six sitting rooms? It is authoritative that the last rent of apartments 7A and 7B was paid by Peter Obi! The story of Osborne Towers will continue to explain the thrifty behind the saintly Peter Obi who wants use to believe that he carry his bag at the airport, books economy on air trips and and eats once a day so as not to spend so much money but pays rent of 60 Million a month on three apartments in Osborne Towers. He even want us to believe that he eat just one piece of kpomo in his soup for lunch! Biggest lies from the biggest lier of the century. I am beginning to believe that Chief Peter Obi is not straight. If not, how can one be paying 250 Million a year for rent in a four bedroom apartment and still go about preaching saving culture. This to me is hypocrisy and idiocy joined together. Do Peter Obi thought that we all are fools? What the hell is wrong with Ngerian leaders. I am surprised that Peter Obi is not what he preaches. He is a stark opposite of who he wants us to believe he is. The gathering of the evil men at Osborne Towers has finally exposed Peter Obi and confirmed what people has been saying all along that he is the a human with the most complex characters. From what I have read about Peter Obi as a former Governor who lead the other Governors to court and obtained that judgement that forced Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to share our National savings, I am forced to believe that Chief Peter Obi is the most flexible mind ever to come out of the South East. Allow me to borrow this line from Mr. Aghaduno that thoroughly describes Chief Peter Obi inter alia “The trouble with Peter Obi is that he thinks that he is cleverer than everyone else. He maintains a bland and colorless surface that conceals a grandiose interior. He talks with the voice of a woman in labor but carries a heart of stone. He maintains a well-cultivated religious outlook but his soul is the engine room of demons. The former governor of Anambra State reminds me of a luscious apple with a large maggot neatly embedded in its middle”. He is a contradictory person who will tell you a story in the morning and come out in the afternoon to tell the exact opposite of the story he told in the morning. How can the world ever trust Peter Obi again? How do we believe him again each time he mounts a podium to display his craft of petty lies? Peter Obi should just disappear before he becomes an object of caricature. A friend once told me I want to do ‘Peter Obi’. I was bewildered but he laughed and told me that doing Peter Obi is just pretending to be who you are not. Please the new generation should not do ‘Peter Obi’ as it is not in the character of the Igbos to pretend. Only God knows where Peter Obi picks his unusual unlike Igbo character. Benson Nweke writes from Nnewi, Anambra state. |
jiangchu:What you just described as Transgender is actually Hermaphrodite in Biology. It is called Intersex in humans especially in USA.Intersex is the modern and socially acceptable way to refer to people who were born with biological characteristics of both male and female. Transgender on the other hand is a decision to change to another sex or have both .In the United States, transgender is an umbrella term that refers to people who are either transitioning to one binary end of the spectrum or the other, or are middle path, genderqueer, etc. Intersex people can identify as transgender, but not all of them do. |
My friend. There is no better or best university in Nigeria. I graduated from one of the high ranking high cut off university some years back here in Nigeria. I struggled and waited for so long to gain admission and finally got it. What I realised was that the same rot and fallen standard (actually no standard) pervades all the higher institutions of learning in Nigeria. Individual brilliance and self development is what stand anyone out in job market. Guys here are just mentioning their alma mata. If you must choose any university here for any reason, CU is ok for the seriousness and teaching facilities availability. It's costly though and the churchy stuff comes with package. |

Three “graduates” of Enugu State University of Science and Technology mobilised to participate in the National Youth Service Corps scheme have shown lack of competence and intelligence level expected of genuine degree holders, Blueprint learnt last night. In education circles, questions are being asked over the competence of the university and indeed other institutions of learning. The three corps members are: Nwankwo Elias Chukwuebuka, a graduate of BSc Electrical/Electronics, with code number NG/11B/1660 and a NYSC call-up number NYSC/EST/2011/1777093; Mbah Linda Akunna, a graduate of BSc Electricals/Electronics with code number LA/11B/5245, a call-up number EST/2011/178882 and matriculation number ESUT/2005/96998, and Okochi Adaeze Kate, a graduate of Geography/Meteorology, with code number AD/12B/0389, call-up number EST/2012/148292 and matriculation number ESUT/2006/10400. According to documents obtained by Blueprint, the three “graduates,” who are serving in Niger, Lagos and Adamawa states respectively, were rejected, with formal letters sent to the state coordinators by their areas of primary assignment and forwarded to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja. The national headquarters, in a August 29, 2012 letter signed by the Director General of NYSC, N.T. Okore-Affia, had informed the NUC of the presence of corps members who displayed “glaring lack of academic ability and intelligence level expected of genuine Nigerian graduates, which were consistently exhibited by the three students from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.” Attaching copies of letters from NYSC secretariats in Niger, Adamawa and Lagos, Okore-Affia noted: “As contained in the reports, the corps members exhibited signs of incompetence and low intelligence level which range from inability to complete registration formats correctly to not being able to teach pupils at nursery school level. These inadequacies led to their rejections by their employers in their various states of deployment.” The case, according to an insider’s account, has baffled the National Universities Commission (NUC) and prompted the setting up of a committee to “verify the integrity of the degrees,” and find out if there was collaboration by the university. Federal education authorities are suspecting a wide-ranging scam that might have been going on for years. To unravel how the three corps members were mobilised, the NUC has already set up a panel, comprising officials of NYSC, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the State Security Service (SSS). The mandate of the panel, according to a letter dated September 24, 2012 signed by NUC Director of Quality Assurance, Professor C.F. Mafiana, “is to fully investigate the report with a view to identifying the culprits, including others similarly mobilised and their collaborators, and ensuring sanctions accordingly. The team would be chaired by a visiting professor in the NUC.” Out of the three corps members, Okochi could hardly write the Roman figures from one to 10 in words, just as she could not write three states and their capitals. She could not provide the names of two major rivers in Nigeria, just as she failed to name three countries that share border with Nigeria. Akunna, according to the documents, was rejected by Kings College, Lagos, after it was discovered that she was grossly incompetent to perform her duties. A further test on her by the Lagos state NYSC secretariat revealed that though a graduate of Electricals/Electronics, she never passed any of the science subjects at the secondary school level. The third fellow, Chukwuebuka, who was posted to Niger state, was rejected by a nursery/primary school known as FEMA Schools because of his inability to read and write. Having been rejected by two employers, he had to be reposted by Niger state NYSC to a bakery, pending the final determination of his case by the NYSC national headquarters. When queried on his incompetence, Chukwuebuka proved his incompetence when he responded in writing: “I awarded a degree in Enugu State University of Science and Technology I have a probeam in my university am manegn my siefe to funsh my school.” A source disclosed last night that members of the panel would soon commence probing the circumstances under which the “graduates” were released by the university to participate in the NYSC scheme. -Blueprint |
