Kai. .. This same thread that helped me in getting prepared for visa interview. Nawa o. Coming on here and seeing certain people misbehave, seeing the thread become something else. Read through 6 pages and not more than 2 success stories, it's appalling. I urge you guys to revisit old threads and see what this was like. Let's join hands together and bring this thread to normalcy. I pledge allegiance to join the movement. God bless you all. Meanwhile tuale to everybody wey dey carry the thread along. I see you all grin grin

Pls house can anyone lists the name of schools that do not require TOEFL and GRE.... Either both or one..... Thanks
it's not advisable to see fire and still stick your hands in it.. save yourself the chances of visa denial and take TOEFL and GRE. Not everyone is lucky at the embassy. If you insist on looking for schools that won't ask for TOEFL and GRE, then search Google and make your choice.. I'm just saying though. Good luck in your endeavors

Please nairalander, is it the truth that scholarships are no more awarded to any SAT exam takers from Nigeria again. thanks
I can't ascertain people getting scholarships from Nigeria for undergraduate studies but what I can advice u is this, do not, do not, do not apply to a community college. To get a job with a community college or scholarship is difficult because they have limited funding but if you get admitted to a university and you come over and get a good G.P.A and get involved in extra curricular activities, you definitely gonna get at least half scholarship.

No need for that. Apply afresh and save the stress
curiobling:
that is to start afresh as total undergraduate ryt? tot i could transfer som of my major courses where i had B grade in my ND1 so as to reduce my credit workload at undergrad level coming summer
like slimmy said, best thing is to start afresh. Grades stick to your transcript forever and I'm not sure u will like to come here and see others grabbing A's while you have B's in your result. so save yourself the stress

I heard someone saying that international student never get funded, How true is that?
international students get scholarships, my cousin paid just for the first semester and he didn't pay a dime till he graduated and it also depends on your school and the foundations that give scholarship . Just maintain a high GPA and you're good

OK thanks. I could be wrong and I stand to be corrected. A little advice I got from someone who has been in the military for 10years, he doesn't encourage anyone who comes to America for the sole aim of schooling to join the army because you can't just sign up and start receiving benefits without serving them, you have to leave school for a while and go on to serve the country then after some time, they'll permit you to return to school before coming back to finish your contract with them.. Like I said, I stand to be corrected, I no sabi all things

How true is this information because I know joining the US military is not something anyone should just dive into without proper research.

Shout it out let everyone hear.. No be everybody destiny dey yankee... Gather a lot of money before traveling to the states... It's pretty difficult down there if you're an international student except you ggot scholarship and you must maintain a high GP to renew your scholarship... Gather a lot of money before traveling to Yankee... Odikwa dangerous... Lol
reekadohbanks:
Got another post for y'all. And like I said in my previous posts, you're gonna have to get used to my sense of humor and brash delivery. Now that we have that out of the way, lets begin
Now that you have been granted visa and you know deep down in your soul that you cannot afford close to $15k and above per semester (by the way, unless you get a TA/GA, limited scholarships or some type of grant, international students do not get any type of financial aid!), youre probably wondering "How I wan take do am?". Got a couple of ideas, some of which I tried out myself. First of all, the honest truth, which a lot of folks don't tell you is that it is EXTREMELY HARD for international students to find jobs. For example, it's practically almost impossible to find any under the table jobs at places like target, walmart or any retail chain (unless the manager is your father!) because they all do E-Verify. International students don't get SSN (unless you get a job in school, and before you start thinking smart, your SSN is only valid for school employment. It will be written on your SS card). Having said all that, you still have a few options, if you're smart enough and like the saying goes "naija boys no dey carry last". IF you're able to save up some money (3k-5k), you can buy a car when you get here and get your drivers license asap. With your car, you can find pizza delivery jobs that'll pay you under the table. Its not much, sometimes as low as $5/hr, but the more hours you work the more money you make. you can be doing this, while you try to figure out how to get your papers straight and then you can find a better job. The thing is even if youre a doctor in naija or a lawyer or anything, and you enter here with anythin other than an immigrant visa stamped on your passport, you won't get a job (for health professions, its a little different, but that will come in another post).
Its good to have a plan before leaving naija. I can't emphasize that enough.

Any advice from the gurus in the house?
bro, I don't know how this is gonna sound but I think you're not gonna like oklahoma.. Oklahoma is filled with whites and they are racists.. I have friends that transferred from Oklahoma down to Dallas cus of that.. but if you get there and can adapt, that's good.

Idazbawz: sorry this is coming late....
y'all read my epistle
MY TRAVEL EXPERIENCE
i had my flight scheduled with emirates airline at 8:50p.m on thursday, 28th Aug. 2014... i got to MM Airport at exactly 7:00p.m. i went for check-in and followed other protocols. During the check-in, i met one Hausa boy heading to Boston with the same flight... so we had a long gist. The dude is on full scholarship by MTN football blah blah... infact, MTN paid for his flight...
You need to see the crowd a the airport... Infact, my flight had to wait extra 45 minutes cos of the sluggish way Nigerian officers are checking in MMA is just too wack! Nigerian immigration officers were even requesting for bribe. You can imagine, anyway, me nor drop shishi..
My flight was from MMA to Dubai to Boston to JFK NY.
Long live emirates airline... i really enjoyed my trip with them.. the air hostess are so hot! shocked shocked
They kept bringing foods, one thing is that i never said NO... i ate everything given. YES, my money must not waste.. The on-board entertainment was cool... infact the 3D moviemania is so on point, tho i used my lappy through out.
when we got to Boston,i passed through port b4 i even knew it's port of entry...
when i got to the port of entry, the immigration officer requested for my i20.. i took out only the front page and he was like 'what the Bleep is this'... i confuseundecided he den later asked "where is the 3rd page of your i20"? meanwhile, i no even remember where i keep am... i sha scatter all my bags for floor. Then LUCKILY, i found it... And the immigration officer stamped my passport with duration of stay (D/S). emirates kon turn jetblue... this really made me confused and argued a little bit....
we got to New York on friday evening... Na hin the carrousel no gree pass my baggage... i reported this, and the woman said my baggage didn't make the flight... meanwhile, na that baggage all my clths dey. my carry-on only consists of books and laptop.. which cloth i won wear for yankee?? i sha dey give those officers straight face, and dey fear me well well... like play, like play... i sleep beside the carrousels, waiting for my baggage... the next morning around 7:00a.m... na hin i see my bag dey shine teeth for one corner grin grin... i shouted HURRAY!! and went to pick my bag
na God talk say make i fix my connecting flight date in the next day i land New york.... i had to board a bus from JFK NY to Laguardia Airport.. cos dats where my next flight (spirit airline) is taking off...
then i discovered that wifi seff dey bus... chai!!! YANKEE sweet, no be small grin grin
I got to Laguardia for my next flight and met this white pretty damsel.. as she hear say i be Nigerian, she begin dey shine teeth with me, as she don sabi me b4, una kuku sabi me. As a correct sharp guy, i finish her parrol...me n am kon dey go DETROIT MICHIGAN... lipsrsealed forget the rest
when i got to Detroit, Mi... i called my roommate to kom pick me up... in 15 minutes, he was there and even recognized me ( sweet) you should see wat this dude is driving... one mad cheverolet like that, we went directly to walmart and get some stuffs for our room... this dude came with 42 inches lcd tv, play station 4(first time i'm seeing this in my life), etc.... w got to the dorm ( the dorm be like 3D cartoon... neat furniture and all that,,,, it looks better than the pictures i shared here sometimes ago)
my roommie is the jaiye jaiye type...
we had our first four orientation... its really fun... there, i met some Nigerians... in fact, i met a Mushin guy called Biyi, one of my DAD's workers knows him very well.. and he's like a superstar here.. he organized a welcome party for all international students, and he kept calling me on stage, and made me kinda popular.. infact, we had d DJ play us Naija gbedu..
Right now, i have so much American female friends... they like me sooo much.... here's the thing; walk up to any American and say "HELLO! i'm a Nigerian" dat statement is just like JAZZ!!! dem go start to dey shine teeth with u, and even request for your own number....
i've met so many Nigerian friends... Nigerian folks are all around here.. mehn... Infact, there's a Nigerian girl in the room next to mine.. Though we haven't seen each other.. but her igbotic name is on fer door...
that reminds me.... lemme go knock her door cheesy
Most, If not all the girls here wear bum shorts, and other crazy outfits... even mothers wear stuffs like that... this doesn't make them bitches. They kinda give wrong signals to us....
believe me, Nigeria can never be like America... This country seems like MAGIC!... E make mad sense... food is never a problem... I've not paid shishi to my school, and i've been serving myself with whatsoever i want...
omg shocked the classes i've had so far has been soooooooo cool.. we are about 15 in a conducive classroom... every building in school's like 3D Cartoon..... i love Eastern Michigan University... i an TRuEMU....
I HAVE TO GO NOW... i need to get my ass some food in the eatery dining grin grin grin grin grin cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy
I see you bro.....good luck in ur hustle and welcome to obamaland

It wasn't easy..I left for abuja on staurday with abc...got to abj @ 6:00 or so.I was meant to stay in a hotel but my uncle offered to help me out so I stayed with him..On sunday by 12:30,we left for the airport.I flew arik to lagos..I had excess luggage so I paid for it #3500.My uncle was like,I don't like this Flight itinerary ..he has a friend in dakar cus my flight was from abj to lagos den to dakar and to washington...he gave me his friends number in dakar. We left for lagos from abj,our flight was delayed for hours. We got to lagos and my flight to dakar was scheduled for 8:30 but it was moved to 7:45..Meanwhile arik forgot my baggage at abuja and I was at the baggage services making complaints,*my time just dey waste*I did the check in and den rushed off to immigration..I was telling pple I was gonna miss my flight so evryone just gave me chance..after err'thing,we were settled for the flight but by 9pm nothing was happening and d told us we were gonna leave by 11pm...most of us had connecting flights to US....by 11pm..nothing was working and by 12:30 we started boarding. meanwhile my flight to washington from dakar was for 2:15 am..We got to dakar by 4:00am and I realised my flight to DC had left,I was stranded, nobdody,no money, couldn't understand their language..a man gave me his phone and stayed with me at the restaurant till morning,I tipped him 20 dollars and he was bent on taking everything I got* God punish the devil*..He was yelling at me to tell my family to bring money for him..Luckily,I got the number my uncle gave me and he came to my rescue,he spoke french,we called my mum I'm maryland and she sent in money via western union and we cashed it,went to south african airways to make a penalty for missing the flight and that will enable me get on the next flight, the told us to wait till 10:30pm...we called arik and they insisted we should make the penalty and they were gonna refund me.10:30pm we made the penalty, got the ticket and boarded by 2:15am...got to DC by 6:45am...I just thank God for sending a helper,u never wanna experience such in your life(a country where u don't understand their language)...thank God I'm in maryland, chilling and eating chicken like never before...meant to report in school on 4th august but there's no money on me...(God help me again)..thinking of deferring my admission till spring...

its not advisable for UG level cause his chances of practising are slim or NO.. And he can't appear in court as a lawyer in the states.he'll only work under someones chamber..its better he finishes in Nigeria and then furthers in the states..he might be interested in criminology for Msc grin ..preferably,he can go for international law in the states and then return to Nigeria to do a course that relates to the Nigerian Legal system before he can be called to bar.. I tought about this before tho, but it may look like money lodgement, that's how the VO will view it and it will result in outright denial, the best bet for him is to use his uncle as his sponsor, pray and hope that the VO don't ask why the change (there is a 90% chance that the VO will ask since they already have you details in their system) but if they ask, like I said before, its best you tell the VO why your uncle is sponsoring you, this is my advice to you bro..
Wishing you the best and God's favour..
I agree with you.. I see she's so tensed and nervous..she has to calm down and go through transcripts and be prepared for her next interview

I am afraid his present balance as a result of his condition at present cannot cover my tuition for the first year . He is distabilised that i dont even want to disturb him at the moment is why am shifting grounds to my Uncle and which he has accepted since my dad already talked to him.

my first year tuition is 28000$ from the account i sent to the school . they estimated the funds to be 45,000$

so my Uncle is my last hope. Just dont know how to package it and go about it is why i need that help and please correct me on my previous transcript.

God Bless as i await your correspondence..
why not get your uncle transfer the funds into your dads account little by little..though I don't know if the lodgement might be spotted by the VO..I know so many people who went through this track but I don't know if it is advisable..just my opinion..I stand to be corrected
