Politics › Amaechi: FG Has Paid $150m Out Of $500m Chinese Loan On Abuja-Kaduna Railway by Updating9JA(op): 2:48pm On Jun 15, 2021 |
Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, says Nigeria has commenced repayment of loans obtained from China.
The federal government had sought loan facilities from Chinese lenders to implement several infrastructural projects, including standard gauge rail lines.
According to the Debt Management Office (DMO), the total borrowing by Nigeria from China stood at $3.12 billion as at March 31, 2020.
In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Amaechi said Nigeria has never defaulted on loans from foreign countries and international lenders.
The minister said the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan obtained $500 million from China but added that about $150 million had been repaid.
“What I am aware of is the fact that when you take the loan, you are expected to pay back, and as I am talking today, we are paying back,” he said.
“Under the regime of President Goodluck Jonathan, the loan for Abuja-Kaduna (rail line) was taken at about $500 million. As we are talking today, we have paid about $150 million on that loan, and Nigeria has never defaulted when it comes to loan repayment. I don’t also expect that we would default in any other loans that we have taken.
“The loan for Ibadan-Kano (rail line) is about $1.5 billion, the remaining $500 million came from our budget. I expect that whatever loan we take, we will be able to repay. Amaechi added that there is no clause in the loan agreement that cedes assets of the federal government to China in the case of repayment default.
“I am not aware of whatever clause in the loan agreement that hands over any of our national assets to China.
“When you default, they may go to court and it depends on the outcome of the court case but I am not aware that there is any clause signed by this government or the previous government of President Goodluck Jonathan that mortgaged any of our national assets.” https://www.thecable.ng/amaechi-fg-has-paid-150m-out-of-500m-chinese-loan-on-abuja-kaduna-railway

Nigerian sex therapist, Angela Nwosu has taken to Facebook to eulogize her husband for being her support system since she got pregnant. Angela described her husband as her God and stated that she will continue to worship, honor and adore him with pure bliss because he deserves it .In the lengthy post she shared on Facebook, she wrote, “A girl is like an egg that deserves to be handled with care. A pregnant woman is like a full crate of egg that deserves to be handled with extra care.
Turning on bed effortlessly is a luxury you will miss, when you get pregnant. Not sleeping on your back and belly, only on both sides. Sometimes, the pains on the sides will hit at once and you will either sit or stand through the night until the pain subsides for you to lay down again. You need to experience it, to understand.
God bless the man I call an earth God. My God that is always there for me, without a single complain. I don’t know what to do or give to him or how to appreciate him for being the best. Should I give him a house? He has enough. Should I buy him a benz? He already has that and another. What material things should I give to him that he doesn’t already have enough? None!
I guess I will continue to give him my whole life. Adore, worship, honor and submit to his every guidance and control of my life, with pure happiness. If I had the world, I would hand it over to him without a second thought or public opinion.
My husband is my God!” See her post below, Source: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=4144405485652127&set=a.105641439528572

Webmasters › Web Designer Names His Son HTML In Honour Of His Profession - Photos by Updating9JA(op): 1:52pm On Jun 15, 2021 |
A Philippines web designer has gone viral after he disclosed the name of his newborn son.
In a Facebook post, the newborn was introduced as Hypertext Mark-up Language Rayo Pascual - or HTML for short
The child's father Mac Pascual, a web developer, reportedly chose the unusual name as a tribute to his profession.
He told local news site inquirer.net that uncommon names run in his family, explaining that his own name is short for Macaroni 85.
He said that one of his sisters' official names was Spaghetti 88 and claimed her two children are called Cheese Pimiento and Parmesan Cheese, though they go by Chippy and Peewee for short.
Inquirer.net reported that HTML was born healthy, weighing 2.25 kilograms (4.9 pounds) at the Bulacan Medical Mission Group Cooperative Hospital, about an hour's drive north of the capital, Manila.
His mum, Salie Rayo Pascual, told the website that she is delighted to welcome her child and said relatives were pleased with the choice of name.
HTML's aunt, Sincerely Pascual - full name Sincerely Yours Pascual - shared a snap of the newest addition to her family on Facebook, writing: 'Welcome to the world HTML.'
The post has been shared more than 8,978 times and inspired numerous jokes from social media users.
'[That baby] will grow up to hack the Pentagon. It's in his name,' one comment reads.
Several users suggested some computer-based names for any future children: 'Results-based management system', 'JavaScript' or 'Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)'.
'In the future, he could be targeted by bullies and ridiculed,' one user wrote.
'Parents should be sensible and responsible in naming their child... it's child's lifetime and identity and why make her/him suffer for obvious reasons... it's not actually a human name!,' another commented.
A third Facebook user said: 'If I were that child, I'd sue my parents one day.' Source: https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2021/6/web-designer-names-his-son-html-in-honour-of-his-profession-photos-2.html

Politics › Twitter Writes FG Over Suspension, Seeks Dialogue by Updating9JA(op): 1:43pm On Jun 15, 2021 |
The Federal Government on Tuesday confirmed that Twitter has formally written to seek for dialogue on issues leading to the indefinite suspension of its operations in the country.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, confirmed this when he featured on “Politics Nationwide,’’ a Radio Nigeria call-in programme monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“I can confirm that Twitter has written the Federal Government that they are ready to talk.
“As we have always maintained, the door is not locked and we are open-minded but Twitter must work toward it,” he said.
The minister reiterated the government’s position that it would not tolerate any platform that would be used to destabilise the country.
Mohammed said among other conditions for Twitter to resume operation in Nigeria, there must be an agreement as to what contents it could post.
He said Twitter and other platforms must also register as a Nigerian company, obtain license from the National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) and be guided by the rules of the licensing as well as pay taxes.
According to the minister, regulation of social media platforms is becoming a global practice.
He said most countries were just waking up to the fact that the platforms were becoming more powerful than even government and needed to be regulated.
“Singapore, Algeria, Pakistan, Turkey regulate the social media, Australia has done so.
”Even EU that does not have particular laws on social media has made recommendations in a white paper,” he said.
The minister said that the UK initiated a new law which would make social media companies to be fined up to 18 million pounds (about N10.8 billion) if they failed to stamp out online abuses.
He said Google was fined 220 million Euros (about N110 billion) on June 7 by French Competition Regulator for abusing its dominance in the online advertising market in France.
Similarly, the minister said the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan had approved a new set of rules to regulate social media.
In the rules, according to the minister, companies such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and even TikTok were to register and open offices in Pakistan.
He said in compliance with the new online broadcasting rule of Turkey, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video had obtained licences from that country’s broadcasting authority.
Mohammed noted that regulation of social media was not synonymous with stifling press freedom.
“We must not confuse press freedom with irresponsibility.
“How can you stay in your country and allow your own platform to be used to propagate war in another country?
“The suspension of Twitter is to ensure that no particular platform is used to cause war in Nigeria.
“Secondly, to ensure that whoever is making money in Nigeria must be made to pay tax.
“Our appeal to Nigerians is that they should understand where we are coming from.
“We have no intention to stifle people’s freedom or to cut off the source of livelihood of anybody.
“There must be a country devoid of war before we can talk of freedom and a source of living,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the Federal Government on June 4 suspended indefinitely the operations of the microblogging and social networking service in Nigeria.
Mohammed, who announced the suspension, cited the persistent use of the platform for activities capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.
He said the Federal Government had also directed the NBC to immediately commence the process of licensing all Over the Top (OTT) and social media operations in the country.
NAN reports that OTT media service is offered directly to viewers through the internet. (NAN) Source: https://thenationonlineng.net/twitter-writes-fg-over-suspension-seeks-dialogue/

Crime › Bullets Fired By Oyo Customs Men Chasing Rice Smugglers Kill Residents by Updating9JA(op): 7:08am On May 29, 2021 |
How bullets fired by Oyo customs’ men chasing rice smugglers left families in sadness
Residents of Iseyin, Oyo State, are still grieving over the death of some people in the area allegedly felled by the bullets of trigger-happy men of the Nigerian Customs Service on Eid-el-Fitri.
Saturday PUNCH gathered that the dead were killed by men of the service pursuing a Sport Utility Vehicle loaded with suspected smuggled rice. The victims who had waited for the day with high hopes were denied their dreams by the killer officers. Their remains which further drew wailing from the villagers lay lifeless and drenched in their pool of blood on the dusty road.
The killings sparked an outrage and the customs base in the town was attacked by angry youths who were protesting against the mindless act. Some vehicles were torched to show their anger. Some of the residents who spoke with our correspondent justified the youth’s action noting that it wasn’t the first time customs men would shoot indiscriminately inside the town while pursuing smugglers.
The Onisiles in the community were one of the grieving families. Thirty-three-year-old Ibrahim Onisile was one of the slain youths. Onisile’s wife was said to have been delivered of a baby six weeks before he was killed. Other victims included 31-year-old Tobi Opeyemi; Abdullahi Abdulazeez, 32 and 34-year-old commercial tricycle rider, Timothy Gbadegesin.
It was gathered that Gbadegesin, a house painter turned commercial motorcycle rider popularly called okada, went to fix the tyres of his motorcycle when a bullet allegedly fired by the customs hit him and he died on the spot. A Hausa man selling watermelon identified as Umar Abu was also a victim.
The Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba AbdulGaniy Salau, who was miffed at the killings, issued a statement to condemn the act which he said was becoming many in his domain.
The monarch, who is a veterinary doctor, also appealed to the people not to violently react to the incident while also urging rice dealers in the area to always be law-abiding.
The monarch said, “We will no longer allow custom officers to continue wasting the lives of our promising young ones, who are our future and hope and so drastic steps shall be taken to look into the remote and the immediate causes of the killings.
“The Aseyin-in-Council is going to wade into the matter and we shall get to the root of it. I enjoin family members of the victims to repose confidence in the traditional institution because prompt actions are being taken to allow peace to reign permanently in the town.”
The monarch, when contacted by our correspondent to speak further on the killings and efforts of the town to ensure the prosecution of those responsible for the killings, said the community had raised a panel to carry out detailed investigation into the incident.
He said the service refused to abide by its Act which limits pursuing of smugglers to within 40 kilometer radius to a border. According to the monarch, Iseyin is more than 200 kilometers away from the nearest border to it. The monarch said the Sallah-day killings had brought sorrow to the bereaved families, adding that the killing of their breadwinners would worsen their poor living conditions.
The media aide to the Aseyin, Mr Semiu Azeez, told our correspondent that the situation in the bereaved families was terrible because many of those killed were youths who left behind wives, children and aged parents.
He said, “Onisile left a wife with a six-week-old baby. That is a terrible blow to the family. How will they cope with that considering the state of the economy?”
Reacting to the incident through a statement, the NCS claimed that some rice smugglers hired hoodlums to attack its officers on lawful duty and injured some of its officers in the process.
The statement, signed by Theophilus P Duniya on behalf of the Ag. Controller, F O U Zone ‘A, indicated that one of its injured officers was abducted by the hoodlums with his rifle and his colleagues in the process of rescuing him fired at the hoodlums and three of them were killed.
The statement read, “At about 1500 hours of Thursday, May 13, 2021 some daredevil smugglers mobilised themselves with the help of some thugs; attacked a patrol team serving with the Federal Operations Unit Zone A, who were on lawful duty at Iseyin.
“The officers who were on routine patrol intercepted two Nissan Pathfinder SUVs fully loaded with smuggled foreign parboiled rice at Iseyin. Sequel to the interception the officers were attacked by a mob who were mobilised by the smugglers. The mob attacked the officers with dangerous weapons which led to the infliction of serious injuries on two officers.
“They attempted to abduct one of the officers that was brutally attacked; who sustained deep cuts on his head and other parts of his body. The assailants had taken the injured officer with his rifle before his team members who acted in self-defence, shot at his suspected abductors leading to the death of three of them before he was rescued and taken for immediate medical attention.”
However, members of the bereaved families disagreed with NCS claims that those killed were hoodlums hired against customs officers. They noted that their loved ones killed by the men were neither rice dealers nor hoodlums. Many residents corroborated the claims of the grief-stricken families while accusing NCS of “fabricating falsehood to justify their act of wickedness.”
Speaking with our correspondent, Alhaji Rasaki Tijani, who is Gbadegesin’s uncle, told our correspondent in an interview that his nephew was neither a smuggler nor a rice trader. He said the deceased trained as a house painter but due to the country’s poor economic situation resorted to riding a commercial motorcycle.
He said the late Gbadegesin’s father died not long ago and his bereaved mother just completed the prescribed number of days to mourn her late husband before her son was also killed.
Tijani said, “Gbadegesin was my nephew. I am his father’s younger brother. My brother died recently and his wife just completed the required days to mourn her late husband. She was sick immediately after that and her children took her to hospital for treatment. She just came out and three days later, her son was shot dead. It has been difficult to console her. Killing the boy has thrown the family into a deep sorrow.
“He was a Christian and he decided to use okada to make some money in the afternoon on Eid-el-Fitri because he wanted to use the opportunity to make money as many people were in town that day. He went out around 2pm and his bike’s tyre got punctured. He took the motorcycle to where he would repair its tyre. He was there when customs men started shooting and was hit by a stray bullet and died. He was a young man. He had two wives; one had a boy and the other had two boys. Who will train the children now? Nobody can promise to assist because the situation is so bad that everybody is managing to live. We need help for the children. We are praying that God should raise helpers for the kids.’’
The mood in the Onisile compound was gloomy when our correspondent visited.
One of Onisile’s elder brothers, Alhaji Abdulateef Azeez, told our correspondent that the tragic incident had destabilised the entire family because nobody envisaged it.
He said, “The entire family has been mourning since the incident happened. We are praying to God to console everybody. The only child he left behind was less than 40 days old before he was killed. The wife and everybody in the family are in sorrow. It is unfortunate. We call on the government and on anyone who can help. We never thought this could happen. It was shocking but we have to accept our fate. But this type of killing should not be allowed to happen again. We don’t know who will be their next victim.”
The National President, Iseyin Development Union, Alhaji Bayo Raji, who also expressed anger over the killings, said the customs men had almost turned the town to a shooting range. Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, he said the killing of innocent residents by customs had lingered, adding that Iseyin people were ready to ensure that the trigger-happy-officers were punished according to the law.
He said, “Nobody has the right to take another person’s life except the court and the court will not order that innocent persons should be executed without trial. Killing of innocent residents by customs has become regular in Iseyin. We have had five of such cases in the past five years and four of them were by customs officers. Iseyin people are peace loving and I don’t know why they want to kill in our town. They shouldn’t turn Iseyin to a battlefield where they just kill anyhow and most times, they kill innocent people.
“If they are to shoot criminals, they should do that at the outskirts of the town. If they do that in the bush, the tendency to kill innocent people will be low and even shooting should not be the first action. Iseyin is over 250 kilometers away from the border with Benin Republic. We don’t want them in the town, they should be at the border. They are aggressive and kill anyhow believing they are above the law that is why it has continued unchecked.
“The people are peace loving and we are not saying smugglers should continue to undermine the economy, no, that is not what we are saying. Customs are government agents and they should do their job but not in a way that will end up killing innocent people whose interest they should be protecting. We have briefed lawyers and they are working to see that those who carried out the killings are brought to justice. We won’t allow this to go away like others. We want the grieving families to be compensated though no amount of money can buy life. More importantly, we don’t want a future occurrence of this in our town.”
Similarly, one of the youth leaders in Iseyin, Babajide Oniyo, told our correspondent that everything must be done to prevent a recurrence of the dastardly killings.
Oniyo said, “There should be periodic training, retraining and seminars for officers of the NCS on how to go about their duties, without killing, maiming or oppressing other citizens. Officers must be mandated to face their jobs and ensure arrests and interceptions are made only at borders and in the bush.
“Their area of jurisdiction must not be less than 40km away from borders, as enshrined in the Customs Act. In the event where they failed in their duties to make arrests at borders or in the bush, officers must be instructed to apply civil measures when trying an arrest in the middle of town.
“Regular mental checks should be carried out on every officer manning our borders, to ascertain their fitness and qualification for such assignment per time. More scientific modalities should be devised for better surveillance and arrest of the smugglers, instead of the use of firearms as it is practised in saner climes. Human lives should be valued above anything and any officer who violates the laid down guidelines should be punished according to the law.”
The state governor, Seyi Makinde, during his visit to Iseyin promised to give the bereaved families N1m each to enable them cope with economic hardship at the initial stage of their grief. Also, Senator Fatai Buhari representing Oyo North Senatorial District and a member of the House of Representatives representing the constituency Shina Peller, had taken up the fight to ensure justice for the slain constituents. Crime › Man Defiles His 3 Underage Daughters In Anambra (Photos) by Updating9JA(op): 7:40am On May 28, 2021 |
A 48-year old man has been arrested and paraded for allegedly defiling his 3 daughters in Anambra state. Thomas Igbo from Ikolo, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State was paraded by the Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for alleged child defilement. Mr Igbo, who lives in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra state, with his wife and four kids, is accused of sexually abusing his three female children aged 8 years, 4 years and 18 months. The suspect allegedly confessed to sexually abusing his eldest daughter but denied molesting the remaining two, although his 4-year-old daughter allegedly confirmed the molestation to Child Protection Network, the human rights group that facilitated the arrest. A medical report from the Ntasi Centre, General Hospital Enugwu-Ukwu also confirmed that the three children have been molested multiple times. The suspect insisted he only had intercourse once with his eight-year-old daughter and blamed his action on alcohol. The State Commandant, NSCDC, Mr David Billie said the investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be charged to Court immediately the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) ends its strike and the court resumes full activities. Narrating how the abuse was discovered, Mrs Okwuchukwu Chukwuenyem, the Spokesperson for Child Protection Network, said the case was brought to their notice after a neighbor noticed the behavior of the man. According to her, the man was in the habit of taking the children separately on daily basis, mostly between 9pm and 10:30pm but what made the neighbor suspicious was when he was allegedly heard asking the children in Pidgin English, "e sweet" to the neighbor's hearing. Crime › Officers Injured As Ogun Cultists, Land Grabbers, Police Clash by Updating9JA(op): 7:19am On May 28, 2021 |
An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Tajudeen Adeleke, and an Inspector, Babatunde Olayiwola, have been injured during a clash between some cultists and men of the Ogun State Police Command.
Four of the cultists, suspected to be notorious land grabbers, were arrested after unleashing violence on the people of Babaode-Onibuku community in the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, the suspects — Najimu Ojumola, Monday Olaleye, Kehinde Martins, and Felix John — were arrested after invading the village with weapons and holding residents hostage.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by policemen at the Onipanu divisional headquarters that Babaode-Onibuku village was under siege by a group of land grabbers.
The PPRO said, “Upon the distress call, the Onipanu DPO, CSP Bamidele Job, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene for a rescue operation.
“On getting to the scene, the hoodlums launched an attack on the policemen and injured one ASP Tajudeen Adeleke and Inspector Babatunde Olayiwola, but they were later subdued. Two among them, Najimu Ojumola and Monday Olaleye, were apprehended.
“While the policemen were taking the hoodlums to the station, their colleagues ambushed them at Idiroko road, and attacked them with a view to freeing the suspects. They were dispatched and the duo of Felix John and Kehinde Martins were equally arrested.
“Recovered from them were eight expended cartridges, one live cartridge, one cutlass, three Bajaj motorcycles and one Toyota Corolla, with number plate, FST 42 FT.”
The PPRO, however, said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation. ,, Source: https://punchng.com/officers-injured-as-ogun-cultists-land-grabbers-police-clash/

Politics › Woman Reportedly Brutalised By Rivers Police Loses Pregnancy, Demands Justice by Updating9JA(op): 6:21am On Apr 12, 2021 |
A 30-year-old woman, Mrs Joy Ihunwo, who was allegedly brutalised by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police Command, has said she lost her pregnancy after the incident and is calling for justice to be served.
The woman was arrested alongside her husband, who is the head of a vigilante group in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt following a petition against him over alleged illegal activities by his group.
Joy, while speaking to our correspondent in Port Harcourt on Sunday, said she had gone for a pelvic scan at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and the results showed that she had lost the pregnancy.
The scan result dated April 10, 2021 was sighted by our correspondent and Joy called on the human rights community and Nigerians to assist her to get justice.
Narrating her ordeal, Joy stated that she was at home on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, when policemen from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit came looking for her husband, who is the Chief Security Officer of the Rumu-Elechi community in Mile Three, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
She said despite arresting her husband, Mr Godstime Ihunwo, and about seven of his vigilante members, some of the cops broke into their apartment, allegedly beat her with the butt of their guns and took her away to their office alongside her husband and his and the vigilante members.
She added, “Now, the pregnancy I was carrying when they broke into our home and assaulted me has disappeared. I was crying and begging them to leave me that I was pregnant. They called me a thief and said I would give birth to a premature child.
“I was crying and asking them why they were treating a pregnant woman that way. One of them pushed me; another slapped me and pushed me out of the door, forced me inside their car and said I was an armed robber, and they took me to their office. While we were at their office, I told them that the pregnancy was disturbing me; they said I was crying for nothing and that I would give birth prematurely there.
“Later that evening, they took me in their vehicles back to the house. When we got there, the door was locked. They broke the padlock, opened the gate and entered our house. They ransacked the house, stole my phones and N150,000. They also stole the money that husband wanted to use to pay his boys.
“They even took phone chargers, MP3 music players and wrappers. I am calling on female lawyers and human rights activists to come and help me. Look at the scan result. Imagine a pregnant woman losing her baby because of Nigeria police.”
Meanwhile, a lawyer with the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Jane James, has called on the police authority to carry out a thorough investigation into the complaints of the victim.
James stated, “It was because of the alleged brutality on her that she lost the pregnancy. Her husband was the one they were looking for and in the process, they arrested her. It is not as if they didn’t see her husband.
“They arrested her along with her husband even when her name was not on the petition. Now, she has lost her baby as the scan result showed. It was a battery as a matter of fact.
“So, we are calling on the police authority that there should be thorough investigation of all the police officers connected with the incident. We want justice not just served, but to be seen to have been served.”
When contacted, the spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, said, “Let her (Joy) make a formal report and the Commissioner of Police will look into it accordingly.” https://punchng.com/woman-allegedly-brutalised-by-rivers-police-loses-pregnancy-demands-justice/

Health › UNIPORT Student Slumps, Dies At Home After Exams by Updating9JA(op): 5:28am On Apr 09, 2021 |
There is panic at the University of Port Harcourt following the death of a student identified as Gloria Adeleye, who reportedly slumped and passed away a few days after taking her first semester exams before travelling to join her family in the Rivers State capital.
It was gathered that Gloria, who was of the Department of Animal Science, finished her exams on Thursday, April 1, 2021, and left the school for her family residence, but a few days later, news of her demise filtered into the campus, sending cold shivers down the spine of her friends and the entire department.
The 500-level student was said to have slumped at home on Tuesday, April 6, and was rushed to hospital, where she died. The cause of death has, however, not yet been ascertained.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Sammy Kpenu, expressed regrets at the development, but said it was wrong for anyone to say Gloria died on the school campus.
He stated, “It is fake. The lady, who put up the post that she died in school, has already apologised to the department, because it caused a lot of problems.
“The lady (deceased) had left the school almost a week ago and was in her family house. She finished her exams on April 1 and had been with her family.
“So, from what we heard, she just slumped and by the time she was rushed to hospital, she was pronounced dead. So, it wasn’t anything that had to do with Uniport community.”
Meanwhile, the Head of Department, Animal Science and the department’s students association in a statement obtained by our correspondent said they had tried to reach the deceased’s father, but that he was unwilling to speak.
“The department tried reaching the father yesterday, but he was not willing to communicate with anyone. However, the department is planning a condolence visit once a date is agreed with the father,” the statement read in part. https://punchng.com/uniport-student-slumps-dies-at-home-after-exams/

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 50-year-old prophet in charge of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Oke-Igbala, Ifo, Tayo Shobowale, for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old church member.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged with the Family Support Unit of the Ota Area Command by the victim.
The PPRO added that the victim was accompanied by her mother to the station.
He explained, “The victim reported that sometime in March 2021, the prophet invited her to the church for prayer and that the prophet took advantage of her being alone with him in the church to forcefully have unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“The victim further stated that after the illicit affair, the prophet ordered her to take a spiritual bath in the church with an already prepared candle, which he rubbed all over her body.
“Since then, the victim complained that she had been having spiritual attack, which always make her fall down and remain unconscious for hours.
“Upon the report, the Area Commander, Ota, ACP Muhideen Obe, detailed his Family Support Unit to the scene, where the randy prophet was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect initially denied the allegations, but when he was confronted by the victim, it was very difficult for him to absolve himself of the allegations.”
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered a thorough investigation of the case and that the suspect be charged as soon as investigation was concluded. Source: https://punchng.com/ogun-prophet-arrested-for-alleged-rape-of-17-year-old-member-in-church/
