An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Thursday dissolved a 10-year-old marriage after a 45-year-old businessman, Mr Mutiu Bamgbose, accused his wife, Aliyah, of stealing.
Mutiu, in his statement to the court, said, “My wife is a thief; she is not always satisfied with whatever I give to her; she keeps stealing my money at will.
“The most painful incident was when she stole my N3m and squandered it. Because of her habit, I started keeping my money in the ceiling, but that didn’t stop her.
“When I could no longer condone it, I opened a bank account and she became angry, making life miserable for me.
“It is obvious that my wife doesn’t love me; she is just after my money.”
The embattled man also accused his wife of adultery.
“She started having affairs with a married man in our community. I approached the man and warned him seriously to stay away from my wife,” he added.
The petitioner further said his wife abandoned their matrimonial home and took away all his belongings.
He said, “Aliyah is fetish; there was a day I opened her bag and saw charms. I took it to my family head and she was summoned; but she could not explain how she got the charms.”
The President of the court, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, held that it was obvious from available testimony and the respondent’s refusal to appear in court that the marriage had hit the rocks.
“Throughout the duration of this case, the respondent refused to honour court processes despite being served several times.
“Therefore, the court has no other choice than to dissolve the marriage. The court hereby pronounces the marriage between Mr Mutiu and Mrs Aliyah Bamgbose dissolved today.
“Henceforth, both of you cease to be husband and wife.
“Each of you should go your separate ways unmolested; the court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours,” Koledoye said.
The court gave custody of their twin girls to the respondent and ordered Mutiu to pay N10,000 monthly for their feeding, while their male child was given to the petitioner.

Actress, Tonto Dikeh’s ‘husband’, Prince Kpokpogri, has dismissed claims that he was the one speaking in the audio recording making rounds on social media.

“Fake news, fake clone voice recording . Kindly disregard it . I will be on Instagram live on Sunday for clarity sake, distinguishing the fake voices from the real voice if need be.”
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode says the events in Afghanistan and Nigeria were long planned.

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have shot dead a fuel marketer in Ondo State.
The deceased, identified as Bode Dangunro, was said to have been killed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
Before his gruesome murder, Dagunro was said to be a successful fuel marketer at Olotu, a riverine community in Ugbonla axis of the local government.
According to sources, his killers, who murdered him in cold blood at his residence, also carted away the sum of N2 million.
Speaking on the incident, the deceased’s brother, Mr Malo Olorunwa Francis, a staff of Niger Delta [color=#000000]Development Company[/color], NDDC, in Okitipupa, disclosed that the robbers invaded the residence of the victim around 9pm.
Francis added that after he was shot in the stomach, he rushed him to a private hospital in Igbokoda where he gave up the ghost.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami, said that investigation is ongoing to unravel the incident and apprehend the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the incident has thrown the community in a mournful mood as they described the killing as a huge tragedy.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has remanded two unemployed men in a custodial centre in Lagos for allegedly being in possession of a toy gun.
The police charged 25-year-old Toheed Tajudeen and 27-year-old Segun Jayeola, whose residential addresses were not given, with conspiracy and [color=#000000]unlawful possession[/color] of a firearm.
Magistrate Elizabeth Adeola did not take their pleas, but ordered that they should be kept in the Kirikiri Custodial Centre.
The magistrate also directed that the case file should be sent to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Kenrich Nomayo, had earlier alleged that the suspects conspired to own a dummy gun, an act prohibited by the Federal Government.
“The offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” Nomayo said.
The case was adjourned till September 7,2021 for mention.
Makinde seeks approval of N50b supplementary budget from Oyo lawmakers
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has asked the State House of Assembly to approve a supplementary budget worth N50b.
DAILY POST reports that Makinde sought the consideration and approval of the budget on Tuesday.
The request was contained in a letter sent to the state lawmakers.
Makinde said that the supplementary budget would cater for three projects.
He explained that the projects were not captured in the approved 2021 budget.
The three [color=#000000]projects[/color] according to him are: Ibadan Circular Road, Iseyin-Ogbomoso Road and Ibadan Airport Improvement.
Makinde said that Ibadan Circular Road would cost Twenty-Five billion naira (N25,000,000,000,00), Iseyin -Ogbomoso Road would be constructed with Fifteen billion naira (N15,000,000,000,00) while Ibadan Airport Improvement will cost the sum of Ten billion naira (N10,000,000,000,00).
The N50 billion will be provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria under the Differentiated Cash Reserves Requirements, DCRR, of which N100billion was approved by the House of Assembly.
The 2021 budget will be increased from Two Hundred and Sixty-Eight billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy-Seven million, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Four thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty naira only (#268,770,964,860,00) to the sum of Three Hundred and Eighteen Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy million, Nine Hundred and Sixty-four thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty naira only (318,770,964,860).
DAILY POST earlier reported that the lawmakers had on Tuesday approved an additional sum of six billion naira credit facility for Governor Seyi Makinde.
This latest loan request is in addition to the loans that had been borrowed since Makinde became the governor of the state.
The lawmakers had in July, 2019, approved a sum of ten billion naira loan for the governor.

The duo, between 11th August and 13th September 2020, obtained the sum from one Alhaji Bukar Kime under the pretext of selling to him a purported plot of land measuring 50×50ft laying and situate at Pompomari Residential layout, Maiduguri which did not belong to them. The offence is contrary to section 1(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act."

The Federal Government of Nigeria has allayed the fears of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) workers of any lay-offs as plans to concession four major international airports in the country get underway.
Hadi Sirika, the Aviation minister, gave the assurance at a virtual meeting with aviation stakeholders in Lagos, on Wednesday, on the concession update of the four airports[color=#000000].[/color]
Sirika said instead more hands would be engaged as most of the airports were understaffed.
NAN reports that the four airports billed for concession are: the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Port Harcourt International Airport and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The minister informed the stakeholders that there wouldn’t be any need to sell the country’s assets, but to concession them in a manner that would modernise the airports and have them operated to create more jobs as well as generate more revenue for the country.
“We will not sell the assets that belong to over 200 million Nigerians and the future generation of this country.
“We’re not going to sell because those that were sold were lost, so we in government believe that we should hold those assets for the Nigerian people in trust.
“We must make those assets better to provide the services that are needed. So, we said, rather than sell out rightly, we’ll concession.
“In other words, we would give it up to someone who would operate them and make them better.
“We will then get more money, the people will enjoy better services, the industry grows and after a certain time, the airports will come back to us,” he said.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Obol Ubi Itam Ettah, a two term Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River state.
It was gathered that the oil baron popularly known as Bomboy, was abducted by gun wielding men on [color=#000000]Monday[/color] , August 9, at his fuel station on Ikom-Calabar highway, close to Ediba junction in Ugep.
"He was sitting at this station when the vehicles arrived and five men came out and immediately displayed assault rifles," a source narrated.
"Several motorcyclists were buying petrol, abandoned their bikes and took off while the men grabbed Bomboy, pushed him into the vehicle and drove to the Ediba junction, turned right and drove off with him." the source added.
A stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party, Bomboy served as council chairman from 2007 to 2013.
He was also in charge of the Ekori Paradise Toothpick Factory constructed by the Cross River State Government and later defected to the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) to contest for the seat of the Senator representing central Cross River at the National Assembly.
He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is said to have returned to DPP recently after the Governor, Benedict Ayade joined the ruling party.
Brig Gen Isah Aderibigbe, Chairman, Governing Board of Osun State Security Network Agency, code-named Amotekun, has revealed that over 90 women have been recruited into the network in the state.
He said the women, selected from the 30 local government areas of the state and one [color=#000000]area office[/color] . formed part of the 360 newly recruited personnel.
Aderibigbe, who disclosed this during a news conference on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital, said camping for the enlisted candidates will commence on August 15.
He stated that the recruitment would be in three phases.
According to the chairman of the agency, he said the outfit printed about 2,000 forms, out of which 1,647 people reported for the interview and they were screened. We engaged 360 of them.
“Our camping will start on August 15 at Wole Soyinka High School, Ejigbo. The candidates are expected to report to the camp on that day between 8am and 6pm,” he said.
“Any candidate that fails to turn up during the period will forfeit his chance. Our passing out will be held on September 4 after three weeks in camp. The candidates should come to camp with a medical fitness report from a government hospital and other items such as white vests, blue shorts, cutleries etc.
“We picked at least three women in each of the 30 local governments and one area office. If some of those shortlisted fail to report to camp between 8am and 6pm, we have a reserve list that we can call upon within 24 hours.”
Police arrest, parade 29 IPOB, ESN members allegedly planning to attack Imo residents
The Police in Imo State on Sunday paraded 29 suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) reportedly planning to attack the State ahead of the Sit-at-home order on Monday[color=#000000].[/color]
The State Commissioner of Police, CP, Abutu Yaro, said the command was able to gather the information on their activities and they were arrested.
The Commissioner who stated this while briefing journalists at the Command headquarters, Owerri , said, “We got information that they have concluded their plans to launch an attack on the State as a way of enforcing their sit-at-home order and we moved our men to action and unfortunate for them, all of them were captured in their different camps of ESN, in the State. Also, arrested were some women who offer them catering services.”

Kidnappers demand N200m ransom to free popular Bayelsa nightclub owner Oyintare Ajanami
Kidnappers who abducted Oyintare Ajanami, the owner of a popular nightclub in Bayelsa, have demanded the sum of N200million from his family to release him.
Ajanami, an indigene of Ayamasa town in Ekeremor local government area of the State was abducted at his building site along Otiotio Road in the state capital on Wednesday, July 28.
The 43-year-old owner of Club 64 along the Bayridge area of Yenagoa, also works as a cash officer with Wema bank[color=#000000].[/color]
Although the police is yet to confirm the latest report, however, a member of the family of the abducted nightclub owner who pleaded anonymity confirmed that the family have been contacted by the kidnappers for ransom.
"It was shocking when they were demanding for N200million. I hope and pray that they release our brother unhurt.” the source told Nigerian Tribune.
Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has called for a more virile opposition party in the country, saying the country’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has failed.
A statement on Thursday by the CNPP Secretary-General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, noted that “unless a virile opposition party evolves ahead of the 2023 general elections, the country will have to return to a one-party system, which is very unhealthy for our democracy[color=#000000].[/color]
“Evidently, we are gradually returning to the dark days of one party state before the All Progressives Congress (APC) and their allies metamorphosed into a strong opposition party and gave Nigerians an alternative party platform in 2015.”
According to the statement, “The APC has been in power for six years but the lives of the ordinary person are not getting better, increasing the yearning for a new strong opposition party as possible choice against the ruling APC and the PDP.
“Rule of law has become a big challenge as the APC government has jettisoned that basic ingredient of democracy and have continued to manipulate democratic processes and have refused to obey several court orders in the last six years.
“So many valid court judgments have been disregarded by the APC with instances of the party’s failure to abide by its own party constitution in many instances till the recent Supreme Court verdict on its National Chairmanship position.”
“We, therefore, call on all opposition parties in the country to come together and form alliances or mergers to provide an alternative political party platform as both PDP and the APC have failed the masses of Nigeria as main opposition party and ruling party controlling both the executive and the legislature,” CNPP added.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has arrested three persons over alleged illegal exportation of pangolin scales and elephant tusks worth N22.3 billion in Lagos.
Hameed Ali, comptroller general of customs, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Wednesday. He said the items seized included pangolin scales in 196 sacks weighing 17,137.44kg, elephant tusks weighing 870.44kg, and pangolin claws measuring 4.60kg[color=#000000].[/color]
He said the intercepted items were evacuated from Ijeoma street in Lekki, Lagos state, adding that three suspects in connection with the seizure have been arrested. “Already, three suspects who are non-nationals have been arrested. They are: Mr Traore Djakonba, Mr Isiak Musa and Mr Mohammed Bereta. The kingpin, Mr Berete Morybinet, is on the run thinking he can evade the long arm of the law.
“Security agencies at all entry and exit points are on red alert to track and arrest him to face justice. He is, therefore, advised in his interest to surrender himself to the NCS,” he said.
The federal executive council (FEC) has approved the construction of 2x60MVA and 2x30MVA power substations Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states respectively.
Sale Mamman, minister of power, announced this at the end of the FEC meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
Substation is a transmission and distribution system consisting of transformers, circuit breakers used to regulate power gotten from generating companies (GenCos) then distributed to consumers.
“One is the construction of 2×60 MVA 132/33 substation at Gagarawa, Jigawa State in favour of Messrs Power Control and Appliances Limited in the sum of N454,212,396.05,” Mamman said.
“The second one is the award of the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of 2×30 MVA 132/33 substation at Bonny, Ibom, Akwa Ibom State in favour of Messrs YEMEC West Africa Limited in the sum of US$6.2 million offshore plus N1.8 billion onshore.”
Recently, the federal government has invested in boosting electricity transmission and providing better access to Nigerians ranging from substations, solar grid system installations and power plants.
In February 2021, FEC approved the construction of a N35 billion power station for the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA) in Akamkpa, Cross River state.
In March, the council also approved contracts for constructing three substations in Kano and Benue states as well as for the extension of transmission lines in Abia and Imo states[color=#000000].[/color]
In the same month, it approved N6.2 billion for the execution of various power projects across the country.
Muhammadu Buhari had inaugurated a 1.52 megawatts-peak (MWP) and 2.28 megawatts-hour (MWH) solar microgrid system for the ministry of works and housing and the ministry of environment, in Abuja.
Also in July, FEC approved the construction of a $39.9 million 220km Calabar-Ikom 132 cable double circuit transmission line.

FG borrowed N1.3tn in four years to subsidise power consumers, firms – World Bank
The Federal Government has borrowed a total of N1.3tn since 2017 to ensure that generation companies and gas suppliers received enough payments to continue generating electricity, the World Bank has said.
The bank said this in its ‘Resilience through Reforms’ report.
According to the report, the power sector in Nigeria will cost the Federal Government an additional N3.08tn through 2023, if current performance levels and low tariffs persist.
The report said, “To ensure that Gencos and gas suppliers receive enough payments to continue generating electricity, since 2017 the FGN has borrowed a total of N1.3tn ($4.2bn).
“In 2019 total FGN support reached N524bn ($1.7bn), 0.4 per cent of GDP – higher than the N428bn budget for health and just 20 per cent less than the N650bn budgeted for education.”
Even though all the six generation companies, and eleven distribution companies have been privatised, the Federal Government through the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company buys electricity from the GENCOs and independent power producers before reselling to the Discos, the bank said.
The report noted that the government, through the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, regulates tariff in the sector rather allow market forces to determine it.
It added that the Transmission Company of Nigeria was still strictly government-owned.
Nigerians pay less than the cost of production for electricity, the report said, adding that this resulted in revenue shortfall.
From 2015 through to 2019, the FG paid N1.68tn as cumulative tariff shortfall, it said, adding that because of foreign exchange depreciation and rising domestic inflation, tariff shortfalls had also been on the rise.
The bank said, “Every Nigerian who receives electricity from a Disco pays less for electricity than the cost of supplying it.
“However, 80 per cent of the spending on tariff shortfalls benefits the richest 40 per cent of the population; only eight per cent benefits the bottom 40 per cent, and of this, less than two per cent benefits the poorest 20 per cent.
“Significant resources spent on funding tariff shortfalls disproportionately benefit the relatively wealthy who have access to the grid and use more electricity so that ultimately, a big chunk of government support goes to those who do not really need help with paying bills.”
The report said that 43 per cent of the population i.e. 85 million people lacked access to grid electricity, making Nigeria the nation with the world’s largest energy access deficit.
Access to grid electricity for the nation’s poorest (about 40 per cent of total population) is 31 per cent, it said.
According to the report, there are over 22 million gasoline generators that power about 26 per cent of all households and 30 per cent of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the nation.
The report said the generating sets generated eight times more electricity than the national grid.
The World Bank said inhalation of smoke from the sets was linked to about 1,500 deaths annually.
According to the report, in 2018, Nigerians spent about N3.7tn on the purchase and operation of the generating sets.
Every year, Nigeria loses between N7tn and N10tn annually to unreliable electricity supply, the report said, adding that this was about five to seven per cent of the Gross Domestic Product of the nation.
It said Nigeria had about 12,500 MW of installed capacity, dominated by natural gas, 88 per cent, with hydro making up the rest.
In 2020, over 51 per cent of this capacity was not available due to maintenance and repair work, it said.
Of the 6,158 MW that was available, an average of just 4,087 MW was available for generation, because of both insufficient gas supply, transmission and distribution constraints, and the inability of DISCOs to purchase power, it added.
In 2020 installed capacity functioned at 33 per cent. Of the 4,087MW of generation capacity that was available, only 32,181 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity was generated and sent to the DISCOS.
The report said seven per cent was lost in transmission, leaving the DISCOS with 30,000 GWh, three per cent above benchmark.
According to the World Bank, distribution network losses were also quite high: The Discos delivered only 75 per cent of the electricity they received, losing 7,656 GWh to poor infrastructure and theft. Thirty-two per cent of electricity was lost during transmission and distribution.
In 2020, Discos billed 22,163 GWh of electricity to their customers (60 per cent of whom were not metered). Ideally, this should have generated N816bn in revenue for the DISCOs, but they were only able to collect N542bn as revenue, the report said.
In July 2020, the FG launched a N23tn Nigerian Economic Sustainability Plan to assuage the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy, the report recalled.
The bank said economic recovery was only possible when there was access to electricity, leading to sufficient power supply, and a financially viable power sector.
According to the World Bank, Nigeria needs to connect 500,000 to 800,000 households every year to achieve universal access to electricity by 2030.
The global bank said the government has to show real commitment to start turning around the power sector by taking the critical actions it set out in its Power Sector Recovery Programme more seriously.
It said, “The FGN has targeted reducing new tariff shortfalls from N502bn in 2020 to less than N300bn in 2021 in its PSRP Financing Plan as it moves the power sector towards full cost recovery and a fair electricity pricing policy – the transition to service-based tariff and the increased payment[color=#000000].[/color]
“Nigeria is a critical member of the West Africa Power Pool, the regional market launched in 2018, which can significantly improve the electricity supply not just in Nigeria but throughout all of West Africa.
“By the mid-2020s, it is expected that all 14 countries in the WAPP will be interconnected; efforts are already underway to increase the capacity of the network and to reinforce it in order to increase domestic supply and accrue the benefits of regional trade,” the bank added.
Responding to the report that N1.3tn was borrowed from 2017 to ensure that distribution companies and gas firms supplied electricity, the Federal Ministry of Power said the fund was released in two batches for gas payment and settling of collection shortfalls.
Special Assistant to the Minister of Power on Media, Aaron Artimas, told one of our correspondents that the interventions were done through the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading company.
He said, “In 2017 there was this intervention by the government, but it gave the money to NBET because the power generation companies were complaining that they were not being paid for the power they produce.
“And the Discos were claiming that they had shortfall in collection. So the gas suppliers were putting pressure on the government because if they were not paid, they won’t supply the Gencos.
“That was how the government came up with the first intervention of about N700bn and the second one in 2019 was N600bn. This brings the total sum to N1.3tn so that Gencos could defray the cost of gas.”
Artimas said the government took the decision following the public outcry that the sector was underperforming despite being privatised.
He noted that recently the government also intervened in the sector by providing funding for meters following complaints by consumers that millions of electricity users were unmetered.
The minister’s aide stated that the poor remittances by Discos over the years had warranted the continued intervention by government in the sector, but noted that the distributors had started recording some progress in remittances to the sector.
An Abuja-based medical doctor, Gabriel Adedoyin, has urged the police to help find his car following its disappearance from the Tako Market in the Federal Capital Territory.
The 25-year-old doctor and graphic artist told our correspondent that he was coming back from church when he parked at the entrance to the market so that he could purchase some items.
Adedoyin said when he was done, his red Totoya Corolla car with number plate BWR285TT was no longer where he parked it.
According to him, his laptop, tablet, €200 and other personal effects were inside the vehicle.
Adedoyin, who lamented his losses, said he had some pending jobs on his laptop that he needed to deliver to his customers.

My laptop, tablet, €200 and other personal effects were inside the car.
“The incident has affected me because it has been difficult to move around, and it has made things difficult for me. The big part is my laptop and tablet, which I use for graphic design and IELTS tuition. I have not been able to do any of that; these extracurricular activities have been grounded. I have a whole lot of pending jobs on the devices that I am supposed to deliver, but now I can’t complete them and customers are calling for their jobs.”.
Adedoyin told our correspondent that some friends opened a Gofundme account for him to raise money to buy some of the lost items.
He, however, lamented that Nigerians could not donate to the account.
“A Gofundme account was opened by a cluster of my friends, but Nigerians cannot donate; so, it has limited a whole lot of contributions; I have only been able to get about €200. A lady on Twitter led the fund raising for me to buy another laptop.
“I just want to order another laptop. I want the police to help me to find my car and its content, that’s the ultimate I want from them.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT, Mariam Yusuf, did not take her calls and had yet to responded to a text message sent to her mobile phone on the incident.
