The ‘A dara, a dara’ singer’s widow, Latoya, relayed the death announcement through music promoter, Bimbo Esho.
“Bimbo, Daddy Has Passed On….This was the message I stumbled on waking up at exactly 3 am to peruse my WhatsApp page. It was a message sent to me by Orlando Julius’ beautiful and supportive wife Lady Latoya.
“Orlando Julius, a native of Ijebu Ijesha, succumbed to the cold hands of death and breathed his last few hours ago at the age of 79.
“May daddy Orlando Julius’ soul journey well. To the entire Ekemode family may God give you the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” Bimbo Esho posted.
According to his Wiki profile, Julius was born in 1943 in Ikole, Nigeria to a merchant family during British colonialism. His first musical teacher was his mother, who would sing and dance while he played drums.
He went to St. Peter’s Anglican School in Ikole and played in the school band.
In 1957, after dropping out of school and the death of his father, he left for Ibadan to pursue a career as a musician. He worked at a bakery while playing the drums or flute with juju and konkoma bands. There was no music school in the area at the time, so the premier, Obafemi Awolowo, created one in his political party’s secretariat.

She died in early hours of Sunday, 10th April, 2022, after a protracted illness at the age of 69.

Reactions on social media on the suspended police officer has been mixed. While some praised the Director-General of NDLEA, Buba Marwa for the sting operation, some have expressed doubt that the narcotic charge is an attempt by the government to prevent the extradition of Mr Kyari.
The fact that Mr Kyari, despite his suspension could access the seized cocaine, is raising more questions on the police.
Henry Shield on Twitter said, “As a suspended Officer, how did Kyari gain access to seized cocaine? What is the Police not telling us?”
Although the police made the arrest and handed Mr Kyari over to the NDLEA for prosecution, and also suspended some other officers involved, the ability of Mr Kyari to gain access to evidence has fuelled conspiracy theories on social media.
Inibehe Effiong, a rights activist lawyer, told DAILY POST that the case can only proceed to a reasonable conclusion if there is an inter-agency collaboration between the police and the NDLEA on the matter.
He stated that it would be preferable if Mr Kyari is extradited to the US first to face prosecution on the cybercrime related offences.
“The nature of the case against Abba Kyari is the one that requires inter-agency collaboration, but ultimatey, it is the responsibility of the NDLEA to investigate the matter and reach a conclusion. We have consistently maintained that the proper thing to do is to extradite Abba Kyari to the US, to face trial, when that trial is concluded, he can be brought back to Nigeria to face the narcotic related charges.
“I do not believe the case should start with the NDLEA, that would be wrong because there is already a case against him in the US with the FBI, under Nigeria’s extradition act.
“So, the proper thing for the government to do is to allow the justice department’s investigation to run its full course. If he is convicted, the country under the legal mutual assistant treaty can now have Mr Abba Kyari brought back to Nigeria to serve his term for the conviction in the US. If he is acquitted, he can still be brought back to Nigeria to face charges on the case of drug-related matter that the NDLEA has brought against him,” he said.
Mr Effiong added that the arrest of Mr Kyari has not addressed the gap in the anti-corruption fight of the present administration.
“It depends on how serious the government is on pursuing the matter, to either prosecute him or not. If the government is serious about prosecuting him diligently, the right thing may be done. But if the government wants to play game with it, the outcome can be predicted.
“There is no evidence that the government is serious about corruption. As far as some of us are concerned, nobody is fighting corruption in Nigeria. Marwa has shown some semblance/willingness to handle the matter, that is not to say that the government is fighting corruption, the political will is not there,” he said.
A police officer, who spoke with DAILY POST, said the litany of accusation against Abba Kyari could make the police not to corporate with the investigation.
“The Nigeria Police has always been having image issues. Shining stars in the police does not happen daily, they come once in a while. The force was really proud of Kyari, but with all the scandals now, it is hard to tell.
“If you go through the letter by IGP, and you read in-between the line, you will see that the police are trying to point accusing fingers to men of the NDLEA,” he said.
He noted that since the NDLEA is prosecuting the case under the NDLEA act, the matter could get a speedy hearing.

Nigerians have resorted to trekking as fuel scarcity in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT bites harder.
DAILY POST recalls that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency, Mr Farouk Ahmed, had assured Nigerians of adequate fuel supply following claims that the petrol with high methanol has been withdrawn from the public.
However, that seems not to be the case as the shortage of petrol in Abuja has worsened.
When DAILY POST took a trip around the FCT, workers were seen stranded at bus stops with fewer cars on the road.
Many resorted to trekking to their destinations seeing that many public transport providers are trapped in the filling stations waiting to get fuel.
In some areas of Abuja, fuel is sold in black markets at the rate of N400- 1000 per litre.
The fuel crisis has also affected the cost of transportation as fares have doubled around every district of the city.
On Tuesday, there were long queues at AYM Shafa filling station, Wuye, Keke and cab drivers were all in the queues waiting for the non-existent fuel
Speaking with DAILY POST Correspondent, a worker identified as Joshua said, “I don’t know what the government is doing because this fuel situation is becoming worse.
"I got home 9pm on Monday because of lack of transportation, I had to trek to Berger and then hustled to get a cab to my destination at double the price.”
He urged the government to repair refineries in the country to salvage the situation as Nigerians are suffering.
Another commuter, Toris told our reporter that she left her house at 6:30am and was still at the bus stop at 8am, lamenting that she trekked from Jikwoyi to Karu.
One cab driver, Mr David who commutes from Apo bridge to Jabi said it is difficult for Taxi drivers, adding that they have to queue at filling stations for hours before they get fuel.
They even lamented that some filling stations have refused to fill the tanks of customers to ensure the limited product reaches everybody.
“This fuel scarcity in Abuja is a serious problem oh, I spent almost three hours at the filling station in a queue yet no fuel.
“Some people are saying fuel has finished, we have no option but to increase the transport fare it will reduce once the fuel is available,” he said.
Mrs Caroline, a market woman, said before she pays N200 for transport to the market but now pays N400 because she cannot afford to walk long distances.
"This fuel scarcity will affect our businesses because before you know it, suppliers will increase delivery of products. Buhari should help us oh, This country don tire me.”
A woman passing by an uncompleted building in Marabar Kankara town in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State has rescued a four year old girl kidnapped and hidden in the building, aiding the arrest of her kidnapper.
According to the police report, the woman who was aware of the disappearance of the four years old girl, was passing by an uncompleted building in the area, when she saw the missing girl in company of one Abubakakar Abdulbasir.
Vanguard gathered that the suspect, Abubakakar Abdulbasir is a 16 years old JS 3 student in one of the schools in the locality.
Vanguard also gathered from sources that when the woman quizzed Abdulbasir on what he was doing with the little girl, he said, they were just chatting but told the woman that she can go back home with the girl if she wants and she gladly did.
On taking the girl home and narrating the encounter to her parents, the father immediately reported the case at the Malumfashi Police Station and Abdulbasir’s father was invited for questioning concerning the whereabout of his son, who was then at large.
Abdulbasir who later returned to the house was informed by his mother that his father was invited by the police and is being questioned over his whereabout. So, Abdulbasir decided to turn himself in and confessed to commiting the crime.
Abdulbasir Abubakakar, the 16-years-old JS 3 student in his confession said: “Yes it is true that I kidnapped Halima my cousin. I hid her in an uncompleted building outskirt of town and then put a phone call through to her parents demanding for N70,000. I also threatened that they may lose her if they fall to provide the money. Immediately, I terminated the call, my conscience prick me that this path I have toed is dangerous and against my religion. I am very sorry for my action. I am asking for forgiveness. I have realized my mistakes.”
Narrating the incident to pressmen, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Superintendent of Police, SP Isah Gambo, while parading the suspect at the state police command said:
“One Sanusi Abubakar of Marabar-Kankara village in Malumfashi LGA reported to the police that since his 4-years-old daughter, Halimatu Sanusi got missing and all efforts to trace her whereabout proved abortive. He later received a phone call that his daughter has been kidnapped, and he is being threatened to pay the sum of seventy thousand naira (N70,000) or risk losing her. Subsequently, the Police Anti-Kidnapping unit, swung into action, carrying out a diligent and meticulous investigation which led to the arrest of the mastermind, one Abubakar Abdulbasir, ‘M’, aged 16yrs of Marabar-Kankara village. In the course of investigation, suspect confessed to the commission of the offence.”

A Catholic priest has resigned from an Arizona church after the Vatican ruled that thousands of his baptisms are invalid because he used the wrong words for 25 years
Father Andres Arango left his post at the St. Gregory Catholic Church in Phoenix this month after disclosing that he used an 'incorrect formula' that invalidated the baptisms. He has previously worked in churches in Brazil and San Diego.
Instead of saying 'I baptize you' which invokes the power of God, as required by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Arango said 'we baptize you' - which refers to the community.
According to the ruling, using the wrong phrasing invalidated all the baptisms Arango had performed since being ordained in 1995 through June 2021. And as a result, this could also invalidate ensuing confirmations and Eucharists.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix said that it was possible that some marriages could be affected, but did not explain further.
He'll now work full-time offering spiritual guidance to Catholics whose baptisms were ruled invalid so that he can baptize them again.
The church said the number of invalid baptisms runs into the thousands, but did not reveal exactly how many Arango performed.
The Vatican issued a doctoral note in 2020, clarifying that Baptisms conferred with the formula 'We baptize you in the name of the Father and the Son of the Holy Spirit,' were invalid.
Church leaders at The Roman Catholic Diocese investigated its faith leaders after the note was issued, and last month found that Father Arango had incorrectly performed the baptisms. It included baptisms at his previous parishes in Brazil and San Diego.
Following the Vatican's note of clarification, other priests working in Catholic diocese across the United States realized they had also been improperly baptized by priests.
It was explained that after becoming an ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City in 2020, Father Zachery Boazman reviewed a video of his 1992 baptism and realized the wrong wording had been used.
He was re-ordained following the discovery, the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City said.
In a letter announcing his resignation, Father Arango apologized to those his mistake has affected and asked the community for 'prayers, forgiveness, and understanding.'
'It saddens me to learn that I have performed invalid baptisms throughout my ministry as a priest by regularly using an incorrect formula,' Arango said. 'I deeply regret my error and how this has affected numerous people in your parish and elsewhere.

Arango remains a priest in good standing, and the situation has not disqualified him from his vocation and ministry, the Diocese said.
Those whose baptisms were invalid might have to repeat the second and third sacraments - confirmation and Eucharist after receiving a second, valid baptism.
It's not clear how the situation could impact marriages, but the Diocese said that it could.
'Maybe!' it said in a statement. 'Unfortunately, there is no single clear answer. There are a number of variables when it comes to valid marriages, and the Tribunal is here to help.'
Diocese of Phoenix Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted said he did not believe Arango didn't intentionally harm or deceive parishioners.
'On behalf of our local Church, I too am sincerely sorry that this error has resulted in disruption to the sacramental lives of a number of the faithful,' Olmsted said in a statement.
'This is why I pledge to take every step necessary to remedy the situation for everyone impacted.'
The former head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari is in fresh legal trouble after a sting operation by the officers of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) indicted him.
Mr Kyari, who is facing possible extradition to the US on cyber fraud-related offences risks life imprisonment if convicted by a competent court for the offence of selling cocaine.
The police on Monday arrested Kyari some hours after the NDLEA declared him wanted and released a video of him selling cocaine.
According to the statement by the police, Kyari was indicted for official corruption, tampering with narcotic exhibits and other unprofessional conduct.
Consequently, the police have handed Kyari to the police for further investigation and prosecution under the NDLEA act.
Part II, chapter 11 of the Act provides that “(a) Any person, who without lawful authority imports, manufactures, plants, or grows the drugs popularly known as cocaine, LSD, heroin, and other similar drugs shall be guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for life.

“(c) sells, buys, exposes or offers for sales or otherwise deals in or with the drug popularly known as cocaine, LSD heroine or any other similar drugs shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for life.”
Section 16 of the Act also provides the punishment for tampering with evidence, which is one of the crimes Kyari is being accused of. On this count, Kyari risks 25years imprisonment if convicted for evidence tampering. [color=#d7e0c9]Catholic Prayers For The Sick[/color]
Speaking on the matter, a legal luminary, Henry Kelechukwu, who spoke with DAILY POST, said the chances of Kyari getting a prison term were high.
“Every case usually has loopholes to be exploited, however, this case is quite close-knitted. The reason is simply because the offences for which he is being accused to have committed are offences which have semblance of strict liability where you need not to even prove intention; of course, it depends on the charge which the prosecuting agency wants to prosecute him with.
“The nature of the offence: you are looking at selling, possession, particularly if the quantity you are in possession of is of marketable quantity, it makes it difficult for you to exonerate yourself.
“If you now juxtapose it with the proceeds of crime aspect, which is the dollar exchange made for the said drugs, it makes it a multifaceted charge sheet against him and his co-conspirators. The law has already prescribed in some instances life imprisonment, 25years in imprisonment, it is actually even more than corruption cases.
“In corruption cases, you can have a plea bargain option, where you could return the money to the government for lesser charges, but in this option, you do not have the option of fine or returning money, the least option is jail term, at no time would a jail time not be given.”
It would be recalled that Kyari in his glorious days was celebrated by Nigerians and even the House of Representatives had honoured him at the Green Chamber for his exploits.
