Gunmen on Tuesday killed 35-year-old lecturer at the D. S Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, Mufutau Waliu.

Our correspondent gathered that Waliu, who was the Head, Department of Electrical and Electronics, was shot by his assailants as he came out of the institution.

The lecturer was rushed to the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, where he was confirmed dead.

The Head of the Public Relations at the institution, Yinka Adegbite, said the police had taken over the investigation.

He said, “The report we heard is that as he was coming out from the campus, he was waylaid by some gunmen[color=#000000].[/color] They shot him several times.

“The institution’s management, with the cooperation of the police, immediately took him to the State Hospital, Ijaye. On getting there, he was pronounced dead.

“We have left the police to do their job. They will do the investigation and they will come out with their findings.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer , DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, described the incident as an assassination.

He said, “It is a case of assassination. They did not touch anything in his vehicle. He was trailed to Itori. The Commissioner of Police has ordered investigation into the incident.”

THE Ondo State Security Agency, Amotekun, on Monday said it arrested no fewer than six suspected hoodlums, who allegedly took part in the looting and arson that occurred during the last #EndSARS protest in the state.

The #EndSARS protest was hijacked by some hoodlums who allegedly set ablaze two police stations, National Correctional Service Centre in Okitipupa, a high court building and some other buildings, which included the state Secretariats of the All Progressives Congress and that of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akure, the state capital.

The corps stated that the suspects were arrested in various parts of the state.

According to the corps, some of the suspects are, Femi Ibine, Oyewole Olayeye, Omotubora Iyanuoluwa and Olamiju Sunday.

Speaking on the development, the Commandant of the security agency in Ondo State, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspects were arrested with exhibits linking them with the looting, arson and attacks on police stations that happened in the state.

Adeleye said, “The items recovered from the suspects suggested that they (suspects) participated in the burning of police stations in the state.”

One of the suspects, Oyewale Olayele, said he only picked some items from a police station and a high court already set ablaze with the aim of selling them as scraps, pleading that he did not know it was an offence to pick things in such a circumstance.

The Kano State Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Kiru, on Thursday, threatened to cancel the third term in the state if proprietors of private schools fail to reduce their school fees by at least 25 per cent before November 1, 2020

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Aliyu Yusuf, in a statement, said the state would be left with no other option than to cancel the third term of the 2019/2020 academic session if the proprietors fail to adhere to the directive of the state government

, in the statement, explained that the decision of the Ministry became necessary in view of the ongoing difficult economic situation, following the lockdown due to the menace of COVID -19 which affected both the socio-economic position of the general public.

Recall that the Kano State Government had directed the reopening of private and public schools from October 11, 2020, after over six months of closure due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

According to the resumption schedule, the first three weeks would be used for the conduct of the second term examination, while the third term 2019/2020 academic session commences thereafter.
