The Rivers state government said that it has withdrawn and discontinued the two separate charges ( PMC/532C/2020 and PMC/533C/2020) preferred against the two pilots of Caverton Helicopters Ltd and the 10 passengers on board before the Port Harcourt Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Politics / Amaechi Told Us Nyesom Wike Is A Cultist & Head Of Ogboni - Worgu Boms by Upritman(m): 9:53am On May 19, 2020
Worgu Boms, a former Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice has alleged that the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi told him alongside some close associates that the now Governor of Rivers State is a Cultist and Head of the Ogboni Secret Society.

In an article titled 'The Allegory Of A Big Small Boy And A Small Bigman', the former Commissioner during the Rotimi Amaechi administration in Rivers State accused Mr.Amaechi of previously using Senator Andrew Uchendu to seek peace with Mr.Wike and declaring him as A Leader but has turned around to use his other associates to condemn the Governor's fight against Covid-19 and his palliatives now.

He said:

"After you told us Nyesom Wike is a cultist and head of Ogboni and put it on ring tones and we followed, you now go back to call him leader after he won you, When he refused you, you Now waited for Convid-19 to Inspire us to renew the way you want us to see the same Wike."

"After all that, you now hide under COVID-19 pandemic fight, which the whole world is battling, and begin to speak tongue in cheek and use microscope to find Wike errors while saying nothing about other Governors who are doing exactly the same thing as Wike, infact, you dine with them publicly, you expect the public not to be amused."

Worgu Boms also narrated how Mr.Amaechi underrated Mr.Wike ahead of the 2015 Governorship Election describing him as a "Small Boy".

"Wike is a small boy".
"This is the First and last time.... ", boasted the then Governor Amaechi in a Thanksgiving Church Service at St Emmanuel Anglican church, Rumuokoro, presided over by Bishop Carthy ' "...that I will talk about my Former Chief of Staff in public. He is a small boy..."
This public boast that 'Wike is a small boy' has been told us (insiders) every now and again, especially when issues for discussion and tackling are raised on how to tackle Wike.
'Wike is a small boy, Why are you people worried'?, Barr.Boms recalled.

On how the Small Boy Wike turned into a Big Man and rained unending political troubles on the Big Man Amaechi, Mr. Boms said:

"And the small boy started winning by running the big Man first, out of the party and later out of Government House!

The small boy almost succeeded, nearly, in truncating the completion of the so-called Bigman's second tenure.
WE were all here and we all saw it.
The Bigman and all those who were serving in his Government were all gasping for air everyday from this small boy attacks on the Bigman's Government!
The small boy almost sacked the BigMan from his government: the legislative arm of the Big Man's government never sat properly throughout the remainder of the Bigman's government.
If the judiciary arm of the Bigman's government had opened for even a full 24 hours, the so-called Bigman's government would have been effectively sacked.
So, that too, was, like the Bigman's legislative arm, Never functioned.

The Small man restricted the so-called Bigman and his government to just Government House, gasping for air and biding his time for his tenure to come to a Constitutional end which it did on May 29, 2015, unceremoniously, with heavy political casualties all from the person publicly described as small boy!
Some of us were just looking, wondering When the BigMan will upturn the small Boy!"

The former associate of Mr.Amaechi blamed Him for all the problems that have befallen the Rivers State APC under his leadership and cautioned him against shifting unnecessary blames to Gov.Wike.

Mr.Boms urged the Minister to be serious, sincere and rebuild the Rivers State Chapter of the APC.

"APC Rivers under Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi CON made Gov. Wike through pride and arrogance for power to maximally control Rivers people for as long as the power mongers are able.

That's the Truth.

Leave Gov. Wike alone.
He did not destroy APC Rivers.
Rebuild APC Rivers before you can be taken seriously.
Wike is NOT our problem.

The mindset that sees the APC as personal property is the problem.
When we are serious and sincere as politicians or as a political party, you yourself will know", Mr.Boms concluded.

It may interest you to note that Barr.Boms belongs to the Senator Magnus Abe faction of the APC in Rivers State and was the Director-General of Senator Abe's governorship campaign organization, Freedom House.

Bittertruth Media recalls that it was the grievances of the Abe faction that sprung up litigatons that denied Rivers State APC a chance to be on the ballot papers during the 2019 General Elections and the continued legal cases filed by the faction have prevented the party from having its executives in Rivers State till now.

Popular Nigerian televangelist, and founder and senior pastor of Salvation Ministries, in Port Harcourt, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, says, there is no Coronavirus in Nigeria, that politicians and other institutions are just using it to steal money.

The renowned cleric stated this on Sunday while preaching at Salvation Ministries, Headquarters in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Pastor Ibiyeomie also said what Nigeria has is the normal malaria that Nigerians are seriously immuoned to and not Coronavirus. Making reference to the experience of the Founder of DAAR Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Ibiyeomie questioned the alleged treatment they were giving to Covid-19 patients and expressed serious doubts over the daily statistics issued by the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control, NCDC.

The cleric also condemned the borders closure and lockdowns declared by the Federal and State Governments due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

He further condemned the use of facemasks even when speaking, describing those who wear the facemasks as "masquerades".

Pastor Ibiyeomie also advised the Federal Government to give money to other states like was given to Lagos State Government so as to appease the other aggrieved governors. He made special appeals for governors from oil producing states, saying if monies are giving to other Governors as was given to Gov.Sanwo-Olu, Coronavirus will automatically end.

The Pastor also advised Nigerians to read their Bible always for them not to suffer from the Coronavirus.

Politics / Wike's Fight Against Covid-19 Draconian & Counter Productive - Sen.abe by Upritman(m): 11:06am On May 11, 2020
A former Governorship Aspirant in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has described the approach taken by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in his fight against Covid-19 in the state as "Draconian" and that such will be " counter productive in the long run".

The former Lawmaker representing Rivers South-East senatorial district stated this in his official reaction on what He called the recent worrisome development in Rivers State.

In the piece titled "A Dangerous Gamble" and posted on his social media page, Senator Abe said:

"The demolition and auction of private property, the closure of all sources of survival for citizens of Rivers state without due consideration for their means of sustenance in the name of the battle against Covid 19, are draconian measures that will prove counter productive in the long run.

Lockdowns must come with clear provisions for the sustenance of the people, particularly the vulnerable population (the young, the old, the sick and the infirm) and exemptions must be made for emergency and essential services, such as foodstuffs , pharmaceuticals, press, medical care and security services, electricity, telecom, fuel supply etc.
To do otherwise even in times of physical warfare is a war crime, for power without compassion is tyranny."

The APC Chieftain lamented that Gov.Wike's approach tends to further divide Rivers People.

"The Rivers state war against Covid 19 at this rate runs the risk of dividing the state into two distinct camps, those who support the Governor and will justify, glorify and applaud any action taken by the Rivers state government no matter how callous and ill advised, and those who oppose the governor and will oppose every action of the state government no matter how well thought out or well intentioned the action may be.

In the face of glaring excesses, everyone will be compelled to choose one side or the other, and our state will suffer", he said.

Senator Abe urged Gov.Wike to reconsider his strategy so as to win the real war against Covid-19.

"This need not be so, there is still time for the Rivers state government to reconsider its strategy, and understand that this is a scientific war against a virus and all of us will need to be involved.

At this rate the government may win the lockdown battle and loose the war.

Covid 19 is going to be here for sometime and we need the goodwill and cooperation of the majority of our people to win the war against this virus.

True victory will be when we survive united in utmost solidarity and our economy rebounds as we hope for recovery and prosperity.
This war is fundamentally about collective humanity, it must, therefore, be fought on strictly humane and just terms", the former lawmaker said.

Politics / Gov.wike Vows To Totally Lockdown Rivers State, Sends Almajiris To Their States by Upritman(m): 7:53pm On Apr 27, 2020
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to totally lock down all parts of the state, calling on Rivers People to expect more tough times as the battle against Coronavirus continues.

" ..... we should all be prepared to go through more stringent measures, including a possible total statewide lockdown, if the situation so compels, in the days and weeks ahead."

He however added that only more patience and strict obedience and observerance of all established measures will make him not to completely lock down Rivers State.

"However, we may not get to this drastic point if we exercise more patience and strictly obey and observe all established measures, including the rules, behavioural protocols and restrictions on lockdowns and social distancing".

Gov.Wike stated this in a state wide broadcast on Monday monitored by Bittertruth Media.

The Governor also announced that all Almajiris will be sent back to their respective states.

"We have also directed the Commissioner of Social Welfare to round-up and deport all vagrants, including the almajiris, to their States of origin to protect our people from the threat they present to the transmission of this pandemic."

Also, Gov.Wike announced the extension of the earlier declared lockdown to more parts of the state.

Bittertruth Media recalls that the lockdown was part of measures to halt the spread of Coronavirus in the State.

The new areas affected by the lockdown include:

(i) Elekahia, including the entire stretch of Rumukalagbor-Elekahia link road;

(ii) Rumuomasi, including Stadium road; and

(iii) Rumuobiokani.

Gov.Wike said " all residents in these areas must stay at home. All shops, mini-markets, officesand business outfits in these areas must also cease to operate until further notice".

He added that "Landlords in these areas must take personal responsibility to enforce this lockdown as we will not hesitate to pull down any commercial building or structure that opens to business in violation of this specific directive".

He blamed the decision on non or passive compliance with the earlier  measures.

The Governor frowned at sabotage by security agencies who have allowed people to come into and leave Rivers State.

Gov.Wike revealed the plan of his Government to inaugurate a Taskforce to monitor the borders of the state.

"Furthermore, we can no longer tolerate the situation where security personnel allow people to leave or enter the State in spite of the closure of our boundaries with other States.

These unscrupulous security officers are deliberately putting our State and the lives of our people at risk as our health system can hardly cope, should there be a surge in COVID-19 cases.

To contain this threat therefore, we will be inaugurating the State’s Taskforce on Border Closure on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 to effectively monitor our boundaries and ensure that no unauthorized person and or vehicle leaves or enters our State under any guise in breach of the lockdown order."

On the current state of the Coronavirus pandemic in Rivers State, Gov.Wike said:

"As at yesterday, 26th April 2020, Rivers State had 6 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 2 fully recovered and discharged, 2 confirmed deaths, while 2 are active and presently receiving treatment in our isolation and treatment centre at Nchia General Hospital, Eleme."

Religion / Easter: Pope Francis Demands Debt Forgiveness For Poor Nations by Upritman(m): 2:27pm On Apr 12, 2020
Pope Francis on this Easter Sunday has called for the reduction or forgiveness of the debt of poor nations suffering in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

In his live-streamed message, he said: “May all nations be put in a position to meet the greatest needs of the moment through the reduction, if not the forgiveness, of the debt burdening the balance sheets of the poorest nations”.

Pope Francis also prayed for those killed and suffering from a novel coronavirus that has killed more than 100,000 people globally.

“Today my thoughts turn in the first place to the many who have been directly affected by the coronavirus: the sick, those who have died and family members who mourn the loss of their loved ones, to whom, in some cases, they were unable even to bid a final farewell,” the pope said in a live-streamed message from an empty Saint Peter’s Basilica.

The Head of the Church used his Easter sermon to also called for an “immediate” ceasefire in global conflict and urged European nations to show “solidarity” in the face of a coronavirus pandemic that has claimed more than 109,000 lives worldwide.

“May Christ our peace enlighten all who have a responsibility in conflicts, that they may have the courage to support the appeal for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world,” the Pope said.

Pope Francis urged Europe, which he described as his “beloved continent”, to “rise again, thanks to a concrete spirit of solidarity” similar to that shown after World War II.

Science/Technology / We Haven't Issued Any Licence For 5G In Nigeria -- FG by Upritman(m): 3:44pm On Apr 04, 2020
Amidst rumoured link of the dreaded Coronavirus to the 5G technology, the federal government says no licence has been issued for the use of the new technology in Nigeria.

This was stated by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy,
Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, in a statement he personally signed on Saturday.

The statement reads in full below:

The attention of my office has been drawn to the public concern about the health implications of the deployment of Fifth Generation Mobile Networks (5G) in Nigeria. Based on available records at my office and the earlier report received from the regulator, I would like to clarify as follows:

i. The National Frequency Management Council (NFMC), of which I am the Chairman, has not deliberated on or released any bulk frequency spectrum for the deployment of 5G;

ii. No license has been issued for the deployment of 5G in the country;

iii. A 3-month study trial commenced on the 25th of November, 2019 in order to critically review and study the health and security implications of deploying 5G in Nigeria;
iiii. As part of the study trial process, I directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure that a team of experts, security agencies and other stakeholders fully participate in the trial process and my office also invited these agencies to participate in the trial; and

v. The trial process has been concluded and the study and reporting process is currently ongoing.

His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, places a premium on the welfare, health and security of Nigerians. As such, our desire for technological advancement will never be at the expense of the health and welfare of our citizens.

Government will not act on the speculations only, but rather we will take an informed decision on 5G after due consultation with experts and the public. I have also directed the NCC to engage citizens on any questions or concerns they may have regarding 5G.

I wish to thank the general public for reaching out to us on this issue. We advise you all to remain rest assured that government will always take the welfare, health and security of the public into account while considering the deployment of any technology.

Health / BREAKING NEWS: Coronavirus Kills Another Nigerian by Upritman(m): 4:29pm On Mar 30, 2020
The global pandemic of Coronavirus has killed another Nigerian.

This is second death from coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

The death was confirmed on Monday by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, during the Presidential Task Force Briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Ehanire confirmed also that Nigeria has 111 confirmed cases of COVID-19, adding that a majority of them were persons who came in from overseas.

According to the health minister, the highest number of confirmed cases are in Lagos and Abuja because they serve as the major gateways to the country.

Ehanire warned Nigerians to protect the elderly among them, as well as those having underlying health issues as they were the most vulnerable.

He also informed the gathering that all retired but able-bodied staff of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the Federal Ministry of Health were being recalled.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said President Muhammadu Buhari has constituted a committee headed by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to care for the economic challenges that the situation may bring for the time being.

He also allayed the fear of Nigerians, saying workers in the financial institutions were not included in the stay-at-home order declared by the President in his Sunday broadcast to the nation.

He further said that the briefing would be a daily event to minimise the incidence of fake news in the country.

Politics / Tinubu Lists 9 Economic Actions To Tackle Economic Effects Of Covid-19 by Upritman(m): 6:41pm On Mar 28, 2020
The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has proffered pieces of advice to Muhammadu Buhari led federal government on how to handle the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 9 points were contained in his 68th birthday message.

The former Lagos State Governor urged the federal government to consider his economic action plans should coronavirus mortally threatens our economy.

The 9 points are as below:

1. MAINTAIN GOVERNMENT EXPENDITURES:

The natural instinct will be to reduce spending. Such reductions may be prudent for individuals and households. For government to move in this direction only feeds economic carnage by amplifying economic hardship. Prudent fiscal policy is generally “countercyclical.” As the private sector shrinks, government does more.

At minimum, the federal government must stick to its naira budgetary expenditures. In fact, government should increase Naira expenditures by at least 10 – 15 percent during an emergency.

Allocations to state and local governments should be included in this addition. If not, we risk subnational recessions in important sections of the country.

2. GOVERNMENT PROJECTS:

If the virus is largely kept from becoming a widespread public health menace, government should accelerate spending and actual work on key infrastructural projects particularly regarding transportation. This will lower costs while bolstering the economy by generating employment and business activity.

If the virus does become a large-scale public health challenge, more funds should be allocated to the health sector.

3. TAX REDUCTIONS:

Government should announce a tax credit or partial tax reduction for companies or firms. VAT should be suspended for the next 2-4 months. This will help lower import costs and protect against shortages.

4. FOOD SECURITY:

We need to protect the people from food shortages and high prices. As such, we must quickly improve farm-to-market delivery of agricultural produce. Also, government should initiate a crash program to decrease spoilage of agricultural produce by construction of storage facilities in local marketplaces in and around major cities and towns throughout the country.

We must establish a strategic grain reserve. Government should help ensure supply by establishing minimum premium price for certain food products.

5. LOWER INTEREST RATES:

CBN should lower interest rates to spur borrowing and private sector activity.

6. QUANTATIVE EASING:

CBN and other financial regulators should be alert to signs of fragility in the financial markets and banking sector.

The Central Bank should be prepared to enact extraordinary measures should the financial sector exhibit stress. The CBN should be prepared to give banks liberal access to its loan discount window to ensure adequate liquidity within the banking sector. The Cash Reserve Requirement for banks should be revised downward.

Also to ensure liquidity, the CBN should be willing to expand its balance sheet and improve liquidity by purchasing government bonds and other instruments held by banks and other institutions.

The Nigerian stock market is falling. CBN and others should be planning how they might intervene to prevent a potential run on the stock market. Potential measures include expanding Quantitative Easing to enable the Central Bank to purchase strategically important instruments trading in the stock market and instituting a moratorium on margin calls.

7. EXCHANGE RATE: The Corona crisis will shrink the inflow of dollars. Hopefully, this is temporary, no more than a few months. CBN can allow some downward pressure on the naira without energetically intervening to defend the exchange rate. Only if and when the rate seems that it might dip precipitously should the CBN intervene.

The Bank may want to revisit its decision prohibiting non-institutional Nigerian dollar holders from participation in Open Market Operations. Greater leniency will bring more dollars into the CBN.

8. DEBT SUSPENSION:

If economic trouble does come, government must be willing to freeze payment of certain consumer-related private debts. Evictions, foreclosure and light and water cut-offs might have to be suspended. Suspension or partial reduction of payment of school fees for our most indigent families must be considered (that is when schools reopen) while government offers temporary support to the schools themselves.

9.INCREASE STIPENDS TO THE POOR:

We must be ready to increase stipends to the poor. We do this by widening the net, substantially increasing the number of recipients of anti-poverty stipends.

“In conclusion, I proffer these measures not as some comprehensive solution.

” I hope these ideas spark needed dialogue about the ways we may need to employ to protect our nation from assault by the coronavirus.

“I do not know if such a confrontation shall come.

“What I do know is that wise preparation will carry us close to victory.

“Unity, compassion and brave implementation of good policy will take us the rest of the way home”.

“We shall not go down. We shall rise”, he said.

Religion / Covid-19: Nigerians Knock Bishop Oyedepo For Launching A Short Code For Offering by Upritman(m): 10:32am On Mar 27, 2020
Some Nigerians have lambasted the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo for recently launching a Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code to collect monies in different categories from his members.

This move by the church follows the recent restriction on religious gatherings by the Federal and state governments over the global pandemic of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Bittertruth Media recalls that Winners Chapel had reportedly disobeyed the government's ban and held church services with crowded members against the social distancing order of the government.

The short code, Bittertruth Media gathered serves as means of collecting offerings, tithes, Shiloh offerings, transportation seeds, Thanksgiving etc.

This replaces the normal monies collected during the now banned Sunday church services by Winners Chapel.

Angered by the move, some Nigerians blasted Bishop Oyedepo for not even considering the Coronavirus pandemic situation to safe Nigerians from further impoverishment.

The Church was yet to react to the outcry as at press time.
