The main opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State has suspended some of her members including Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the 2019 governorship candidate of the Party in the state, David Lyon. Didactic Information Hut reports that other members also suspended were APC members serving in Gov Douye Diri's PDP Government - Commissioner for Power, Engr. Karin Kumoko and Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barr. Peres Biewari, a former APC state chairman, Mr Jothan Amos, an ex-officio member of the National Executive Council, Godbless Diriwari, and Southern Ijaw APC Youth Leader, Sabi Morgan. Also suspended was a party stakeholder and APC Chairman, Ward 3 Southern Ijaw, Omiebi Fuoebi, including all ward executive members as well as the APC Ward 4 Southern Ijaw, Mr Claudius Odobu and all the ward executive members, were all suspended by the party for alleged anti-party activities and gross misconduct. The suspensions were issued by APC executives in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State. The two LGA Executives also accused the suspended members of factionalisation of the party at the state level and undermining the party’s interests, particularly during the 2020 Bayelsa State bye-election. The APC said more investigations are ongoing and more members found guilty of anti-party would be punished. © https://dinfohut.com/apc-suspends-lokpobiri-lyon-others-in-bayelsa/

Rivers Lingering Political Crises And The Self-destructive Docility of Gov Fubara I blame Gov Fubara for all that happened at the various local government Secretariats today. And by now I expected him to have addressed the State on this sad development under his leadership. Nobody should come here in his defence to whip sentiments that He doesn't have the support of the Federal government and security agencies on the political crises in the State. Because the obvious difference between Sim Fubara and Nyesom Wike is that even without the support of federal government and the security agencies, a sitting Governor Wike won't have allowed this to be unleashed by his political opponents. More so when he was fully aware of this. But what our Gov Fubara did yesterday was to merely say the plan and urge his Supporters not to do anything about it or confront them at all. And what this means and does is to give more audacity to those on the side of the FCT Minister against Him (Fubara). A clear evidence of this was when these Wike Supporters on Saturday defiled the restriction of movement order by the Governor on Election Day and heavily mobilised themselves to storm the streets in continuation of their protests. And of course nothing happened. If not where were the supporters of the Governor when all these attacks were taking place almost simultaneously across the State? And now I wish we could estimate the costs of these damages today across the affected LGAs. Public funds will still be used to renovate these destroyed infrastructure. Politics like the jungle is for the brave, resilient and though-hearted. And if Gov Fubara isn't ready, then he should announce his defeat early in time. Or if He (Gov Fubara) is aware that these same characters want to storm the Government House tomorrow, will He simply say it out and continue to stay there and watch them burn Him alongside the edifice? Like former Governor Fayose wisely advised, if Gov Fubara wants to fight his benefactor, Chief Wike, then He should strengthen his balls as a Man and do it with all his might and sophistication, otherwise He should be humble enough to go and meet Chief Wike on his knees and apologise and settle with him in order to end this silly mess. © SPP

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered withdrawal and the unsealing of the 23 Local Government Council Secretariats in Rivers State. This was disclosed in a statement by the Spokesperson of the Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police, Grace IRINGE-KOKO. The statement reads below: In view of the recent political developments in Rivers State, the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha hereby convey the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel previously deployed to seal and safeguard the Local Government Secretariats in the state. This decision is in line with the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure neutrality and the smooth functioning of democratic institutions. Consequently, the IGP has ordered the unsealing of the Local Government Secretariats, which were earlier secured by police personnel. The police will only be redeployed to these locations in the event of any crisis or breakdown of law and order, in which case emergency measures will be swiftly implemented to restore normalcy. The Rivers State Police Command assures the public of its readiness to maintain peace and order across the state and will continue to act professionally in discharging its duties. We urge all residents and stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding as the situation continues to evolve." The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the main opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC, have shared victories in Saturday's local government elections which took place in Akwa Ibom State. The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Aniedi Ikoiwak, who announced the results of the local government election at the commission’s office on Udo Udoma Avenue on Sunday said the PDP won 30 out of the 31 local government areas in the state while the APC won in one. Didactic Information Hut reports that the APC managed to secure victory only in Essien Udim, the local government area of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Some Political Analysts said the victory of the APC in the Senate President's LGA may be a political compensation to oil his political ego. Also, the PDP won the majority of the councillorship seats across the state, indicating its strong grip and presence in the State. Meanwhile, the APC has rejected the results of the election, claiming that the process was marred by widespread rigging, violence, and theft of materials by the PDP. The state publicity secretary of APC, OtoAbasi Udo, while addressing newsmen accused AKISIEC of compromising the integrity and credibility of the election in favour of the PDP. “Yesterday, 5 October 2024, Local Government Elections to usher in new elected executive chairmen and councilors were conducted by AKISIEC (Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission), the tenure of the exiting chairmen and councillors having since come to an end by effluxion of time. “AKISIEC just like any other SIEC in Nigeria is controlled and managed by the State Government. To that extent, there is a perceived and real influence of the electoral umpire by the State Government. “And to that extent, the obvious result would be tilted in favour of the ruling party in the State. Therefore, what we saw and experienced yesterday was a manifestation of such influence beginning with acute shortages of election materials which disenfranchised quite a number of accredited voters, and actions of financial inducements on voters by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the State. “In spite of the above and more, the teeming supporters of our great Party, the All Progressives Congress, and APC in the State, all came out to support our candidates on the ballot. “The Party, ably led by Obong Stephen Leo Ntukekpo, uses this opportunity to express her sincere thanks and appreciation to you all for your tireless, steadfast, unalloyed support and commitment to the Party and assure you that with the Supreme Court judgment that returned full autonomy to the third tier of government, the local government, enshrined in our constitution and the steps taken by the National Assembly to give full effect to the judgment, from the next local government election, all SIECs in charge of local government elections now, would have been dismantled, incapacitated and laid to rest and a bright prospect for future local government elections firmly put in place,” the press release reads in parts. A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to secure a court injunction to block releases from the Federation Account to the 22 Local Government Councils in Rivers state. Frank who made this disclosure in a statement in Abuja on Sunday said Wike and his co-travelers who are opposed to the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, resorted to the plot following their failure to stop local government elections in the state which held successfully on Saturday the 5th of October, 2024. According to him, Wike through his proxies will tomorrow (Monday) or any day soon, approach a Federal High Court in Abuja with spurious writ with prayers that monthly funds allocation to the 22 LGAs in Rivers State should henceforth be withheld with claims that the elections were held in violation of a court ruling. But Timi Frank urged Wike to abandon the plot in the interest of the people of Rivers State and find alternative means to settle his rift with Governor Fubara. He further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to allow Wike to dent his democratic credentials with such a retrogressive court action seeing that local councils in Lagos state suffered similar fate during his administration as Governor through the devious orchestration of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. Frank who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and Middle East, also warned the Judiciary especially Judges and Justices always out to do Wike’s bidding for personal gain not to grant any frivolous prayer brought before them on this matter. The Bayelsa-born Political Activist also condemned the partisan role the police have played so far in the political crises rocking the state and called on them to protect all Rivers’ people instead of taking sides with the Ruling All Progressives Congress. He said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot afford to fold his arms and watch as Wike plots to reverse democracy in Rivers State and by extension Nigeria. “The anti-democratic tendency of former President Olusegun Obasanjo who seized funds meant for local councils in Lagos during Tinubu’s administration as Governor must not be allowed to repeat itself in Rivers State. “As we speak, Wike is putting finishing touches to plans to secure a kangaroo court order to stop monthly funds allocation to local government councils in Rivers State. This must not be allowed to happen.” He warned that such a move could lead to economic disruption in Rivers State in particular and the country in general as well as reversal of of democratic gains the country has made since 1999. “Any action capable of truncating democracy in the country similar to ongoing scenarios in some West African States must be avoided. “The people of Rivers State have elected their council chairman and councilors in line with the recent ruling of the Supreme Court to democratize all LGAs in Nigeria and any attempt to truncate democracy in Rivers would be resisted by the people,” he said. Timi Frank who congratulated the people of Rivers State for successfully electing their council representatives and urged them to redouble their support for the Governor also encouraged Gov Fubara not to be distracted by the evil machinations of his traducers and political opponents. He added that by doing that they will always win eventually if they are patient. He also encouraged them to perform above board and not disappoint the confidence reposed in them by the people. Gov Fubara reiterated his membership of the PDP amidst the desperate situation that resulted in a different party winning majority of the contestable seats in the just concluded local council poll. He apologised to people who might have been offended by his utterances or actions in the course of the travails that characterised the conduct of the local government election in the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GBaf35mcTw?si=FP8cwtMT6QlDnkpP The Factional Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State of Chief Tony Okocha who Heads the Caretaker Committee of the Party has been bombed. Didactic Information Hut reports that the incident happened in the early hours of today, Saturday - October 5th, 2024. The Secretariat which is located along Aba Road in Port Harcourt was reportedly heavily attacked with explosives by suspected armed thugs which the Okocha-led APC has accused as working with the Rivers State Government. Chief Tony Okocha is a Supporter of the FCT Minister and He is behind the controversial Court order against today's local government election in Rivers State. Didactic Information Hut recalls that Chief Okocha and his faction of the APC had earlier in the week joined the PDP faction loyal to the FCT Minister to stage a protest in Port Harcourt against today's local government election in Rivers State. The Explosives reportedly destroyed the gate of the secretariat and the doors and other properties. Speaking on the incident, the chairman of the faction of APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha said: “About 3:20am some gun-trotting young men with their explosives and all that, came here and dropped the first explosive, maybe because the one they dropped here did not detonate, they came back the second time to burn the structure – look at the security house is gone. “Behind me you will see that there was also an attempt, our people came and we were able to quench the fire” . Mr Okocha further alleged that the incident was politically motivated and blamed the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, whom he said had earlier declared war over the local government election. “Is APC secretariat here any voting unit? There is no voting unit here. So, it was deliberate to see how they can annihilate us, it is deliberate to see how they can embarrass us, it is deliberate to see how they can decimate us,” Okocha said. Meanwhile, reports from Rivers State indicate that the local government election is going on peacefully wlbyt without the presence of Officers of the Nigeria Police. © https://dinfohut.com/breaking-factional-apc-secretariat-in-rivers-state-bombed/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_lXbhfG0bo?si=Ut595TuIuC2vsHS8 A desperate attempt by some Police Officers acting on orders allegedly from Abuja to take over the headquarters of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC was foiled following the arrival of the State Governor, Sim Fubara at the scene. Didactic Information Hut reports that the Police Officers were led by the DC Operations and they stormed the RSIEC Premises at about 1:00am Friday, 4th October 2024. But the Governor accompanied by His Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Victor Ono-Jumbo and State and National Assembly members, alongside other stakeholders arrived and reportedly chased them away and have reportedly also manned surveillance at the RSIEC office to ensure that the elections will go on as scheduled. Gov Fubara who expressed disappointment at the role the Police was playing to frustrate the elections said "Enough is Enough" and threatened that the State may resort to providing its own security for the exercise. Meanwhile, the Police has pulled out of the 5th October 2024 local government election in Rivers State citing a federal court judgment. A statement by the Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace IRINGE-KOKO, reads below: "The Nigeria Police Force seeks to inform all law-abiding citizens and stakeholders in Rivers State about the upcoming Local Government Election, particularly in light of recent court rulings. On July 19, 2024, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a restraining order preventing the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from providing security during the Local Government Election. Additionally, on September 30, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a judgment that again prohibited the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from participating in the Local Government Election. Given these circumstances, the Nigeria Police Force has been advised by the Force Legal Department that the ruling from the Federal High Court on September 30, 2024, takes precedence. Recently, an opposition party protested, calling for adherence to the court orders and expressing their determination to prevent any disregard for the law. The Nigeria Police Force encourages all parties to seek appropriate legal redress if they feel aggrieved by any decisions or actions related to the election process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCm1Lj3fooI?si=o86bT1rr3kM4TRqM The Nigeria Police Force is dedicated to maintaining law and order and will not stand idly by in the face of potential disturbances. Necessary actions will be taken to enforce the court’s orders. All Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders have been directed to ensure full compliance with the judgment of the Federal High Court. In view of the above, the Nigeria Police Force has been advised by the Force Legal Department to comply with the judgment of the Federal High Court dated September 30, 2024, which bars the Nigeria Police from allowing, participating in, providing security for, or taking part in the Rivers State Local Government Election on October 5, 2024. All other security agencies are also implored to comply with the Federal High Court judgment. In light of these developments, the Nigeria Police Force calls on all citizens to remain peaceful and orderly and to cooperate with law enforcement in upholding the rule of law during this crucial period." Didactic Information Hut recalls that there was an earlier attempt to take over RSIEC on Tuesday. However, this was denied as a mere security presence to protect the premises against invasion by the #1stOctoberProtesters . The current situation in Rivers State is raising political tension in the oil rich state as the PDP in a protest yesterday had threatened not to fold its hands should the Governor decide to disobey the court order and continue with the election. Ahead of this Saturday’s local government election in Rivers State, the leading party in the contest, the Action People’s Party, APP, has been hit by a major leadership crisis. Didactic Information Hut reports that a case has been filed at a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt by Hart Badom, Destiny Omereji, and four others against the Rivers State APP chairman, Sunny Wokekoro. Others also joined in the suit are the 23 chairmanship candidates of APP in the upcoming Saturday election, and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC. The plaintiff are seeking the reinstatement of Badom as the legitimate State Chairman of APP, calling for the removal of Sunny Wokekoro from the position, challenging the legitimacy of the 23 chairmanship candidates, questioning when they became members of the APP in the state and a declaration that all actions taken by Wokekoro be considered null and void. Didactic Information Hut reports that presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Obele has granted an ex parte motion to serve the defendants through substituted means. Although the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara is yet to dump the PDP, all his top Loyalists are candidates of the APP for the October 5 local government elections. Fubara had sought political refuge in the APP for his Supporters for the council elections following the taking over of the leadership and PDP structure in the State by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Many of the Councillorship and Chairmanship Candidates of the APP were former members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before switching to APP amid internal disputes within PDP in the state. Although some Political Analysts are saying that the fact that they have not formally resigned from the PDP may pose some legal challenge to their candidature in another party and mandates if they eventually win the elections. Meanwhile, a Chieftain of the APP in Rivers State who wouldn't want his name mentioned has accused the FCT Minister of being behind this recent move to cause crisis in the leadership of the Party since his earlier case through the APC to thwart the local council poll had failed. Didactic Information Hut recalls that Justice Peter Lifu in delivery judgment in a suit filed by Wike's Kinsman, Chief Tony Okocha, who serves as the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers State had ruled against the conduct of the local government election. Justice Lifu also stopped INEC from releasing the voters register and the Police from providing security for the elections. But RSIEC is relying on an earlier judgment from a Rivers State High Court to continue with the elections. © https://dinfohut.com/fresh-leadership-crisis-hits-app-ahead-of-rivers-lga-polls/

An official of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has denied insinuations in some quarters that the Commission headquarters along Aba Road, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State, was on Tuesday sealed by the Police. Didactic Information Hut reports that there was a rumor about the sealing of the RSIEC Headquarters on social media allegedly by supporters of the FCT Minister. Those who shared posts about the purported sealing had said it was in a bid to compel the commission to obey the judgment of Justice Peter Lifu who had ruled against the local government election. But the Commissioner in Charge of Civic Education and Public Affairs, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Tamunotonye Profit-Tobins, says it is not true that the Commission has been sealed by the Police. He said the presence of the Police Officers is at the instance of the Commission and part of its preparation for the 5th October 2024 local government election in Rivers State. Gov Fubara had earlier visited the office of RSIEC and vowed to personally confront anyone or security agencies who tries to frustrate the plan to conduct the local government election. © https://dinfohut.com/rsiec-headquarters-not-sealed-by-police-official/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlti0z_NZvs?si=v8mKsgioSIdcMe7k Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara on Monday visited the headquarters of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the State capital. Didactic Information Hut reports that the impromptu visit was to check the level of preparedness of the commission ahead of this Saturday’s local government election in Rivers State. The Governor who was briefed by the Chairman of RSIEC, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, vowed to personally confront anyone who dares to prevent the smooth conduct of the local government election. Gov Fubara reiterated his earlier comment that Rivers State doesn't belong to only one Man. He said, "Our election will hold on October 5. I am aware that RSIEC told me they already have an order mandating them to conduct the election on 5th and the security agencies should support them." "So, I think with that order the election will hold. I might not be a lawyer, but there is something they call first in hand and since they have the first in hand we will give them all the necessary support for that election to be conducted and it will be one of the best elections ever conducted in Rivers State, free and fair in this State.". Retired Justice Enebeli reassured the Governor during the visit that all was set for the conduct of the local government election in Rivers State. Didactic Information Hut recalls that the APC had dragged RSIEC to a Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, who set aside all the processes taken by the Rivers State Government, and also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing the voter’s register used in the conduct of the 2023 general election to the RSIEC for the purpose of conducting the October 5, 2024 local government elections in the state. Justice Lifu, in a judgment delivered on Monday, further restrained the Inspector General (IG) of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) from providing security for the said election. Justice Lifu's judgement is against an earlier order issued by a High Court in Rivers State, which had cleared the coast for the conduct of the October 5 polls. Justice I. Igwe of the Rivers State High Court had, in a judgment delivered on September 4, had ordered the Rivers State electoral body to conduct the October 5 council polls using the 2023 voter’s register. It is unclear if the local government election will still hold as scheduled on the 5th of October, 2024 if the Police chooses to obey Justice Lifu and refuses to provide security for the exercise. But Retired Justice Enebeli insists that there is no legal impediments to the exercise as RSIEC had earlier got the voters' register from INEC before the commencement of the controversial suit by the APC. © https://dinfohut.com/gov-fubara-visits-rsiec-insists-council-poll-must-hold/

President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria. This followed her earlier confirmation by the Senate on 25 September 2024. Kekere-Ekun took the oath of office and signed the oath register at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, on Monday in the presence of her predecessors including the first female CJN, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Justice Walter Onnoghen, Justice Ariwoola and members of her family as well as the other justices of the Supreme Court.
