Politics / CORRECTION: Anambra Guber Election In Ihiala LGA To Hold On Nov 9, Not Nov 13 by Upritman(m): 7:33am On Nov 08, 2021
An earlier thread with source from the New Telegraph had erroneously reported that the governorship election in Ihiala LGA will hold On November 13.

https://www.nairaland.com/6838986/anambra-election-inec-shifts-election

Read the correction below;

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared the governorship election in Anambra State as inconclusive.

This follows alleged irregularities discovered in most communities in Ihiala Local Government Area which has 148,407 registered voters.

The declaration was made in the early hours of Monday, around 12:20 a.m by the state Returning Officer for the election, Florence Obi, the vice-chancellor of University of Calabar.

Mrs Obi said; “Based on constitutional provision and consideration of the Electoral Act as well as the revised regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections issued by the commission, supplementary election is indicated for Ihiala Local Government Area,” the state returning officer.

She added that the constitution provides for a candidate to secure both the highest number of votes cast and 25 per cent of votes cast in at least two-third of the local government areas of the state to declare the winner.

“Therefore, it is important to complete the election in Ihiala to make this determination,” she said.

Politics Hub Nigeria recalls that on Sunday, Mr.Ahmadu Umar, the Collation Officer in charge of Ihiala Local Government had announced that there was no election in the council area on Saturday due to the activities of some politicians who tried to rig the election.

It was further gathered that the election has been rescheduled to hold on Tuesday, November 09, 2021.

The INEC Official also warned trouble makers to steer clear of all the venues where the election will hold in the Ihiala Council area.

Politics Hub Nigeria reports that Prof.Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has so far scored a total of 103,946 votes and won the election in 18 out of the 21 local government areas of the state.

Valentine Ozigbo of the PDP and Ifeanyi Uba of the YPP won in one local government area respectively.

Politics / Anambra Poll: APGA Council Chairman, 10 Ward Chairmen Defect To APC by Upritman(m): 8:47am On Nov 05, 2021
Politics Hub Nigeria

The Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area under the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Hon. Uzoma Mbonu, 10 ward chairmen, and other members of their executive have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Anambra State.

This is coming less than 48 hours to the governorship election in Anambra State.

The defectors were received into the APC by the governorship candidate, Senator Andy Uba at an event which was held at Central School, Ebenebe, in Awka North LGA.

Uba. who assured residents of Awka, the state capital, that his administration will restore the original master plan of the town, if elected on November 6 also decried the deplorable state of infrastructure across Awka Municipal, saying: “Awka has been robbed of its glory by previous administrations in the state.”

According to Him, none of the previous administrations has paid meaningful attention to the development of the state capital and the satellite towns around it.

He said: “It is sad to note that more than 30 years after the creation of our dear state, our capital town is not reflective of who we are as Ndi Anambra.

“Although we are nationally and internationally regarded as an educationally advantaged state with innovative and industrious citizens to boot, the neglect of our capital town of Awka, especially by the outgoing Governor Willy Obiano administration, remains a poor reflection of who we really are.

“Besides the last-minute attempt by the APGA government to hoodwink our people with an airport project, Governor Obiano, in seven years, did not construct, reconstruct, or rehabilitate any road in the capital city.”

“Yet, Awka, by reason of its status as the capital of Anambra State, remains our common heritage and so deserves close attention year in, year out.

“But because of Governor Obiano administration’s refusal to develop Awka Municipal, infrastructure in the state capital has collapsed, leaving residents spending endless man-hours on avoidable traffic congestion.

“As your governor, I will make Awka a focal point of my administration. And in doing so, we shall develop the satellite communities as a strategic plan to decongest Awka town and make it really livable.”

Politics Hub Nigeria recalls that a United States-based research and political risk consultancy firm, Hallmark International Consulting Company, has tipped Senator Andy Uba to win the November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra State.

His candidature has enticed many top politicians to defect to the APC. It is unclear if these defections will translate into his eventual victory on Saturday.

Politics / Anambra Guber: Chukwuma Umeoji Defects To APC by Upritman(m): 3:53pm On Oct 30, 2021
A former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, was received into the APC by the Yobe State Governor and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, on Friday.

In a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Gov.Buni was quoted to have said;
“APC will stand for you and your supporters, and protect your political interests at all times.
“You will enjoy every privilege enjoyed by every member of the party”.

Gov.Buni also urged the Hon.Umeoji and his supporters to work for the success of the APC in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.
“We expect you to be part of the success story in the coming Anambra election as our victory in the election is getting much more clearer every day”.

He added that the people of Aguta federal constituency will be carried along in the decision of their representative into the Nigeria project which will later attract more federal presence to the constituency.

Also speaking, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, pledged his loyalty, that of his political associates and the people of his constituency to the APC.
“We shall contribute to the success awaiting the party in the Anambra election.
“We are part of the Nigeria project and will from now henceforth work and defend the interest of APC at all levels”, he assured.

Politics Hub Nigeria recalls that Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji had earlier emerged as the governorship candidate of APGA in Anambra State from the Jude Okeke faction of the party and was recognised and accepted by INEC.

However, upon the judgement of the Supreme Court affirming the APGA Chairmanship of Chief Victor Oye and the APGA Governorship candidature of Prof.Charles Soludo, Hon.Umeoji's name was removed by INEC.

Hon.Umeoji is the current lawmaker representing Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State.

Politics / Rejoinder: The Man Wearing A Tinubu 2023 Polo Not A Rivers Commissioner by Upritman(m): 3:42pm On Oct 26, 2021
My attention was this afternoon drawn to a post by someone on this thread > https://www.nairaland.com/6821230/rivers-commissioner-justice-wore-tinubu >, in which the person had claimed that the Rivers State Commissioner of Justice in Rivers State was the one wearing a polo with inscriptions in support of Bola Tinubu becoming the president of Nigeria in 2023.
That is absolutely FALSE, FAKE and MISLEADING.
The person with the Tinubu Polo there is Barr.Worgu Boms, a former Commissioner of Justice under the Rotimi Amaechi administration and not Prof.Zaccheus Adangor, the incumbent commissioner under Gov.Wike.
The said Mr.Boms has long lost friendship with Amaechi, especially in 2018 when he pitched his political tent to Senator Magnus Abe.
He is one of the key personalities in the camp of Senator Abe whose case in court denied APC the chance of contesting the 2019 general elections in Rivers State and currently leads a faction of the APC in Rivers State.
Mr,Boms is also the Rivers State Steering Committee Chairman of the 2023 Pro-Tinubu Group. It was during his recent inauguration that he was given the said polo, after which he later visited his principal who just returned from abroad to brief him.
As at today, no current commissioner under Gov.Wike can dare to wear a polo or face cap in support of APC's Tinubu.
Recall that Gov.Wike had even vowed not to support his benefactor, former President Goodluck Jonathan if he defects to the APC and flies their 2023 presidential ticket.
Even wearing that of Atiku of the same PDP can land any commissioner who dares it in regrettable troubles. More so, at a time when Gov.Wike is seriously interested in the 2023 presidency.
Finally, while people are entitled to their over-zealousness, it is important that MODs on Nairaland take to the required due diligence so as to ensure that people are not misinformed or misled via this very important platform.
Thank you.

Politics / Almost A Year After Reelection, Gov.obaseki Finally Nominates Commissioners by Upritman(m): 4:37pm On Sep 28, 2021
Nearly a year after his reelection and subsequently running the government without a cabinet, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has finally nominated commissioners.

Gov.Obaseki's delay in setting up his cabinet had elicited viral condemnations including a rumoured defection plot by his deputy who was aggrieved by the delay.

However, the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, on Tuesday, announced the names of the newly appointed commissioners.

Politics Hub Nigeria reports that the Commissioner-nominees include;

Oluwole Osamudiamen Iyamu
Obehi Akoria
Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe;
Osaze Ethan Uzamere
Monday Osaigbovo.
Marie Edeko
Joseph Eboigbe
Moses Agbukor
Isoken Omo
Andrew Emwanta
Otse Momoh-Omorogbe

The SSG added that their appointments were subject to the approval of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Politics Hub Nigeria recalls that Gov.Obaseki had said He was taking his time to accommodate the political interests of those who joined him from the APC to the PDP as well as the members of his new party.

The Governor who was screened out of the APC Primaries ahead of the governorship poll, had defected to the main opposition PDP then and emerged victorious in the keenly contested election.

In a similar development, Gov.Obaseki has also reappointed Crusoe Osagie, as his spokesman and Ajose-Adeogun as his Special Adviser, Strategy, Policy, Projects and Performance Management.

Politics / Reno Omokri Supports Northern Governors, Says "Power Should Remain In North" by Upritman(m): 2:18pm On Sep 28, 2021
Former Presidential Aide, Reno Omokri, has supported the recent position of Northern Governors against the compulsory demand for a Southern President in 2023.

Omokri, in a tweet on Tuesday joined his voice to the debate saying that power should remain in the north.

According to him, the North claiming the 2023 presidency will teach Southerners how to unite. He lamented how some Southerners in 2015 betrayed their own, former President Goodluck Jonathan and supported Muhammadu Buhari, who later won the poll.

“I support Northern Governors’ rejection of power shift to the South. Let power remain in the North after 2023 to teach Southerners the power of unity.

“Southerners united with Northerners to betray an innocent Southerner in 2015 and expect Northerners to trust them?”

“The Presidency should remain with the North until Southerners learn unity. Traitors are by their nature unreliable. If they can betray one so close to them to you, they can also betray you to others. Look at FFK. No Northerner can ever exhibit such a trait! Tueh!, he tweeted.

Politics Hub Nigeria recalls that Northern Governors Forum on Monday had condemned calls by Southern Governors for a-must-power shift to the south in 2023.

Politics / Gov.wike Borrows N25bn To Finance Key Infrastructure In Rivers State by Upritman(m): 5:18pm On Sep 27, 2021
Governor Nyesom Wike is to borrow the sum of N25Billion to finance key infrastructure in the State.

This follows the granting of an approval to secure the N25Bn Loan by the Rivers State Executive Council.

Politics Hub Nigeria reports that the loan will be used to finance infrastructure including the construction of the 27km Chokocho-Igbodo Road, Oyigbo-Afam Road, Nabo Graham-Douglas Campus of the Nigerian Law School, the Judicial Institute, New Magistrate Courts and the Rumuokwurusi-Elimgbu Flyover.

It was further gathered that the loan has a repayment period of 18 months and is to be repaid before the end of the Gov. Wike's administration.

Specifically, the borrowed sum would be deducted from October 2021 to April 2023 at a monthly rate of N1,547,874,350.66 against the State's Internally Generated Revenue.

Gov.Wike, a strong critic of President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC, had at various times condemned the excessive borrowings by the current Federal Government.

Politics / Senator Odey Dumps PDP, Defects To APC In Cross River by Upritman(m): 2:35pm On Sep 27, 2021
Senator Steven Odey of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The former lawmaker representing Cross River North in the National Assembly defected at an event in his ward- Yache in Yala local government area of Cross River State at the weekend.

Odey, who defected with many of his supporters was received into the APC by the Deputy Governor Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu, who represented Governor Ben Ayade, APC Acting Chairman Sen. Matthew Mbu Jnr, Commissioners, Local Government Council Chairmen and other top government functionaries.

Speaking at the event, Senator Odey said his decision to join the ruling APC was for the interest of the people he is serving because service to the people is not about the political party one belongs.

He said; “My policy and my lifestyle is to serve my people and not for my selfish gains.”

Politics Hub Nigeria recalls that Senator Odey was in August sacked by a judgement of Appeal Court and replaced with Senator Jarigbe A. Jarigbe, still of the PDP over wrong nomination.

He had spent barely nine months in the Senate before his sack.

His defection was long speculated since He is believed to be a long ally of Gov.Ben Ayade.

Politics / We Will Deploy Everything In Our Arsenal To Ensure Victory For APC In Anambra by Upritman(m): 6:46pm On Sep 25, 2021
We Will Deploy Everything In Our Arsenal To Ensure Victory For APC In Anambra - Senator Oduah

The lawmaker representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Senator Stella Oduah has vowed to work with others in deploying all in their political arsenal to ensure that the All Progressives Congress, APC, wins the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

Senator Oduah who stated this during the APC stakeholders meeting in Awka, the state capital on Saturday, boasted that no person or political party can stop the APC from winning the November 6 governorship election.

The former Minister also promised to deliver the zone (Anambra North) to APC and its governorship candidate, Senator Andy Uba during the election.

Senator Oduah who had recently defected from PDP to the APC was represented at the meeting by Princess Nwaka Ononuju.

While calling on all APC Leaders and aggrieved persons to close ranks for the party’s victory, Senator Oduah said they were not leaving anything to chances in delivering Uba at the poll.

She said; “We are committed to deploying everything in our arsenal to ensure victory for the APC in Anambra North come November 6(2021) and this is not a contest I take lightly, as I have immense respect and confidence in the ability of Senator Andy Uba to turn, and position, Anambra to a state every Anambrarian can be proud of.

“That being said, I am making a personal commitment to ensure victory for our great party and the work has already begun, in the way and manner our various support groups, NGOs and teeming supporters spread across the length and breadth of Anambra North have already been deployed in a massive polling unit to polling unit campaign drive.”

” For far too long, Anambra has been unfortunate to have political parties at the helm of its affairs that are alien to governments at the centre, which invariably meant that the dividends of democracy that should accrue to it, have not really trickled down as they should.

“We have been too disconnected from the centre, to the point where everything we ever got were either through the personal efforts of individuals like Senator Andy Uba, our party candidate, or an almost slavish arrangement that meant we had to go cap in hand(begging).”

“Come November 6, 2021, the APC shall take centre stage in Agu Awka.”

Oyo PDP Leaders Vow To Work Against Makinde In 2023, Pass Vote Of No Confidence In Him

Some aggrieved Leaders of the PDP in Oyo State have vowed to work against the reelection bid of the state governor, Engr.Seyi Makinde in 2023.
