Breaking: Stampede Over Abuja Palliative Leads To Death of 10 Persons, Others Injured A stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday morning has reportedly led to the death of at least 10 people, including children, are feared dead, and several others sustaining various degress of injuries. The stampede occurred as thousands of residents scrambled to receive palliatives distributed by the church. Didactic Information Hut reports that the event organised by the Church to provide relief to struggling residents, drew over 3,000 people, mostly from Mpape, Gishiri Village, and other nearby settlements. The National Director of Social Communications at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Padre Mike Nsikak Umoh, who confirmed the tragic development noted that the palliative distribution has been suspended. “Yes it’s true but with sketchy details,” he said. An eyewitness who revealed that at least seven of the deceased were children added that the scene was chaotic and tragic. Didactic Information Hut gathered that many attendees arrived as early as 4:00 AM, hoping to secure their share of the palliatives. Unfortunately, the stampede occurred between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM when the crowd surged forward. “10 people have been reported dead, including children. We just received a call that they have passed on. “Over 3,000 people came out to receive the palliative. It’s unfortunate. Some of them arrived as early as 4:00 AM. Most of those present were residents of Mpape, Gishiri Village, and other nearby settlements. “The stampede occurred between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. The distribution of palliatives has been suspended indefinitely, and people are dispersing. May God receive the souls of the departed and protect us from harm,” the eyewitness, a mother of five, said. Meanwhile, a combined team of police, military, and DSS officers has been deployed to restore order and disperse the crowd. This is coming after over 35 children died in a palliative event in Ibadan. Ahead of the 2027 governorship election, the Archbishop of the Methodist Church Nigeria (Lagos), Most Rev. Isaac Ayo Olawuyi, has advocated for a Muslim governor in Lagos State. The clergyman who said this during the Lagos House of Assembly’s 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Service with the theme: ‘The Voice Of Mercy,’ said that 2027 will make it 12 years that Christians have successively occupied the seat of Lagos governor. In a statement on Saturday by Eromosele Ebhomele, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, the Archbishop was quoted to have advocated religious tolerance by electing a Muslim governor for Lagos in 2027. Didactic Information Hut recalls that while Muslims in the persons of Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola had ruled Lagos for 16 years, Christians in the persons of Akinwunmi Ambode and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, should have governed over Lagos for just 12-year by 2027. “I also want to add that we have consideration for religious inclination in Lagos State. It would be 12 years in 2027 that we have been in the system together and we have been having Christians as governors. “Now, it’s time to give our Muslim brothers a chance to govern us in Lagos State. We want to pray that when it’s time for the election, it would be a time for us to elect who will govern us in Lagos State effectively,” Archbishop was quoted as saying. Archbishop Olawuyi also called on Nigerians to show mercy to one another as instructed by God. “When the mercy of God is upon you, all protocols are be broken. All things are possible by the mercies of God. We receive forgiveness of our sins from Him by His mercies. The nation needs God’s mercy and it is by His mercy that we can overcome our predicaments and our shortcomings. “How many people have you helped and taken care of? Go and show love and mercy,” he said. The Archbishop hailed Speaker Obasa for his leadership and collaboration with the other arms of government saying these have kept the state strong. “You have been a true and sensitive leader with a big heart. You have proved yourself worthy. We pray that God will continue to use you to make us smile in Lagos and also grant you your heart desires,” he said. Also speaking at the event, Speaker Obasa advised Nigerians not to despair as the government of President Bola Tinubu is working to resolve Nigeria's challenges. “The outgoing year is indeed a challenging one, especially considering the economic situation of the country. Nevertheless, we have solace in the fact that the government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR is not leaving any stone unturned to bring us to our promised land. “Mr. President is busy doing everything possible to put smiles on our faces. Trust me, succour is coming. I urge us to keep the hope alive,” Obasa said. Didactic Information reports that this renewed crisis follows the imposition of the Son of the second wife of the Church Leader on the Church as His Successor. There are unconfirmed reports that the current Church Leader, Rowland Obu, is facing severe health challenges claimed to be fatal stage of cancer which has affected his availability at the Church headquarters and has prevented him to be performing his functions. Some key members of the Church believe that He may not survive his deteriorating health, hence the current leadership tussle. Leader Rowland Obu has reportedly navigated between US and UK Hospitals in desperate need to remedy his health challenges. But back home is the battle over who will replace him. There is a first Son of the Church Leader known as Prince Olumba Olumba Obu, who is believed to take over from the Father has not been around for some years now, therefore the second wife perfected her own first son to take over as the successor. Historically, the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is a spiritual organisation that has its headquarters in in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star claims to be different from mainstream Christianity because it maintains that the organisation simply abbreviated as BCS is not a church but the new Kingdom of God on Earth and that its founder, Olumba Olumba Obu, is the Holy Spirit personified, the God of all creation. BCS incorporates into Christian teaching ideas of incarnation and reincarnation and also advocates veganism. A key aspect of the BCS Belief is that faith should be used to cure disease and medicine should be avoided. Earlier when Olumba Olumba Obu, the original leader and founder of the organization died, He was reportedly buried secretly having described him as immortal and widely believed by his members to be so. But sooner after his death, there was a similar leadership tussle between the first daughter and his brother, Rowland who succeeded in leading the Church. But reports indicate that members believe that Leader Olumba is still alive till date on the mountain or under the water praying. Even the death of Olumba's wife was characterised by deliberate secrecy and deception to members who believed in a very gullible way. Interestingly members of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star still believe their original Leader, his wife and daughter are all alive long after their death. Many members have rejected this imposition of new leadership of the organisation necessitating the current rebellion and resistance. The widow of the late Gov Rotimi Akeredolu, said these while comparing the US presidential election to Nigeria’s 2023 general election. In a recent post on X, Mrs Akeredolu compared the period it took to count and announce winners in both polls. “When dishonesty is prioritised, simple things become difficult,” she said of Nigeria’s election." “2023 Nigerian Presidential Election: Total Votes Cast: 25 million, Counting Duration: 5 days. 2024 U.S Presidential Election: Total Votes Cast: 155 million. Ahead of the governorship election in Ondo State tomorrow, three gubernatorial candidates have stepped down for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. This was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ayedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan on Thursday. According to Adeniyan, those who stepped down for Gov Aiyedatiwa included Dr. Ajibola Falaye, Hon. Jenyo Ataunko, and Olaide Ibrahim of the Accord Party, the National Rescue Movement, and the African Democratic Congress respectively. The three candidates announced their decision to step down when they paid a solidarity visit to Gov Aiyedatiwa. Dr. Falaye who spoke on behalf of the candidates hinged their decision to back the governor on his commitment to public service, track record, and outstanding performance in office. “We have been watching him, and his doors are always open to all,” Falaye stated, commending the governor for his inclusive approach to governance and for prioritising the welfare of residents. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has been summoned by the Rivers State Judiciary Panel of Inquiry set up to investigate the destruction of some local government secretariats. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State is to appear before the Judicial panel on the 19th of November, 2024. Didactic Information Hut reports that the summon is contained in an advertorial by the Panel of Inquiry which was signed by the chairman Justice I. R. Minakiri. The Panel said Mr. Wike was invited because of calls by some persons from Emohua Local Government Council, who submitted a memorandum to the commission, along with downloaded video clips from the internet indicting him. The panel which further said a copy of the summon and the video clip had been sent to Mr. Wike by courier service, also advised him to listen and take necessary action over the content of the video. Didactic Information Hut reports that some politicians loyal to the FCT Minister, including APC CTC Chairman, Tony Okocha, former Ikwerre Council Chairman, Samuel Nwanosike, former Eleme Council Chairman, Obarilormate Ollor, and others loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. While Politicians loyal to the Governor have honored the invitation, no Ally of Mr Wike have appeared before the Panel. Meanwhile, the panel is expected to conclude sitting on the 21st of November. Recall that violent politically motivated arson attacks had recently led to the burning of over 6 local government secretariats in Rivers State. The Founder and General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministries in Port Harcourt, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere has confirmed the kidnap of the Principal of the Church's free school in Jos, the Plateau State capital. Apostle Chinyere in a post on his social media page said the Kidnappers are demanding for N50m as ransom but He won't pay "shishi". The Cleric vowed not to use tithes and offerings which he described as God's money to pay ransom. He urged the Kidnappers to release the Principal unconditionally or face the anger of God. Apostle Chinyere also promised to pray for, rehabitate and sponsor their skill acquisition trainings if the kidnappers release the Principal, repent and surrender their guns. Meanwhile the Plateau State Police Command was yet to confirm or react to this kidnap incident. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the government house in Akure. This visit is coming few days to the governorship election to be held on Saturday, 16th November, 2024 in the state in which Mr Aiyedatiwa is a key contestant. Didactic Information Hut reports that Obasanjo who was in the State to commission the Ojaja Park, an estate developed by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi later paid a courtesy visit to the Governor in Akure. In a post shared on the official X handle of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, the Party said Obasanjo wished the governor a successful re-election. “I understand the challenges of this period for you. I remember my campaign for the 1999 elections; I covered the entire six states of the South West in one day. “I think we started in Akure, Ondo State here, then to Ekiti and we got to Lagos around 8pm.
