Yeah, thanks guys for the updates. I think the improvement is a bit a matter of where one stays. Looks like PH issue is a peculiar one. Anyway, I don't know how it used to be. I'm just 2 months old here. I wish our government the best, with less propaganda and more tangible achievements. God bless Nigeria.

Politics / There's An Improvement In Electric Power Supply Now! Pls Tell Us About Your Area by uptoHim(m): 8:58pm On Sep 30, 2015
There has been much news in circulation lately about an improvement in electric power supply by the APC/Buhari led government. Some even say that they now enjoy 24hrs power supply and have sold off their generators. I remember reading a cooment here from someone about how he, probably leaving abroad, got a call his family here in Nigeria to come back home and enjoy the steady power supply with them. Sadly enough, I can't seem to wrap my head around all the hype, as power supply in my area has over the last one/two months become too epileptic. Sometimes we go days without a flash, and even when it comes, it doesn't last for a few hours. In fact, it usually come very late at night, and before morning it's gone. Most times I feel all the testimonies and claims are all lies, may be because I'm not an APC/Buhari fan. But sometimes I also feel the epileptic power supply experience in my area might just be a peculiar one. And that's why I have come here to make my findings and reach a true and unbiased conclusion.

Nairalanders, pls tell us the experience in your area. Tell us the name of your area too so that someone else may attest to whatever claim you'd make.

N/B: I am in Port Harcourt, Rumuoadaolu Mkt Junction (Rumuola Y junction) Rumuola Road.

tete7000:

I found it mind buggling that all those at the ministry can't even understand the terms of the projects under their watch. Imagine the enormity of this refutation: under the sign agreement, there is no way any money could have been diverted. Reason: The chinese government itself releases money directly to chinese contractors doing the projects. Their own people asses projects and give approvals for release of money. Worse still the project mentioned by presidency is not even among funded projects.

If the government got it wrong on simple details like this, how can they be trusted on all other information they release to public? At this time I think it is becoming apparent how imperative it is for the President to appoint minister with needed qualification and experience to handle the job of studying those books.

Spot on bro. I'm just angry with what APC has turned us to. You hardly see people sound sense of understanding more to talk of judgement.

"[/b] The chinese government itself releases money directly to chinese contractors doing the projects. Their own people asses projects and give approvals for release of money. ". At least I have first hand information on the Galaxy Backbone Project. A Chinese company, Huawei, is the one running it. All the govt does is supervise. At the moment, the project is still on-going, at the gay end of completion.

" Worse still the project mentioned by presidency is not even among funded projects.". Just so surprised that non of the APC brainwashed supporters here, too dense in seeing that NOI is killed and buried, could read and understand that part. They can't see even the part she said the Chinese releases the money in stages. Really appalling

It seems many people have adopted this pseudo blindness to the part where there were contracts and Mou where stated and how she asked people to refer to the Chinese government for further clarification as the contract has been awarded. Secondly for the dolts that can't comprehend the loan is from a cooperate institution with the aim of making profit and they would have a monitoring team on ground to check implementation and also disbursement because contract were signed and you can not spend on what is not covered in the mou/contract and if the contract has not been done satisfactory you sue them and not the awarder

if you observe carefully whenever NOI responds to her accusers the never have a good comeback instead they resort to name calling and that is the end of that story

Thank you for his.
I don't always do this, but it hurts me when I see people, even the learned ones, try to fall for political foolishness like this just in the name of being partisan.
Hatred and the need to sustain all their(APC and their blind supporter) propaganda has clouded their intellect and every sense of good judgement in them.
NOI explanation here clearly shows that the Oshomoles in the steering wheel of Buhari's probe/witch-hunt panel are leading him(Buhari) and this country to somewhere regrettable.
The figures from NOI here is more that $2b, meaning that her accusers are in a limbo of un-knowing regarding how much money was borrowed from the Chinese.
Her explanation further shows that her accusers know nothing about what and what the loan was taken for and the terms of the loan. They didn't even know that the loan was never even for the railway project they talked about. And yet, they fed Buhari with the lies and went all out in the media, with their blind supporters raining insult to a woman they may never meet her equal in their 10 lifetimes. In saner societies, coming out with such sensitive but inexcusable accusation would cost some people their jobs and positions. Not here. In fact, they will look for how to modify the lies - with more lies. After all they have their supporters. I tried to see a single APC intellectually sound mind here who could show even a slight surprise here as NOI explanation has clearly revealed us that the Oshomoles are talking about what they know nothing about. Shamefully, I could see any.
It is very out of place for APC to think that they will silence and "lyingly" jail EVERY person who is not one of "their own". Sometime I just imagine if they really believe they can jail GEJ, PEG, NOI, Diezani, Ihiejirika, Etteh, and every other they see as their enemy that worked under GEJ; the people they tell us are the only ones behind the corruption in Nigeria since 1914. The way APC is going, if they and their supporters do not call themselves to order, the calamity they'll bring to this country might be worse than Somalia. I just pray God intervenes.

Keep the baby! First you have to do your best to get back in good stead with your family. And also do your best not to give up on your education. Education is a great necessity. Two, there are institutions/NGOs/bodies that can help you. I don't really know of any at the moment, but I'm sure there are. Though you have to be careful with them. Don't go to them alone. Lastly, know that things will be difficult for you at some points because of this mistake, but be ready to pull through. Be ready to fight through. Be strong, and God will help you!

Yea brother. Thanks! Graduates really need to be told that their not so great degree certificates should not be allowed to define their post graduate lives. Success out here is about knowing what you need, knowing all it will take to get that thing you need, and going all out until you get it. It's all about having the right information and enough determination.

Whether first class or tenth class, everyone must put in much effort to succeed in the post graduate world. Everyone must put in faith/unwavering resolve to succeed. There really can't be failure is faith!

The OP has said it all. I made 2 .2. I graduated in 2010, did NYSC 2012, got a job with a telecom firm in Lagos in 2013, moved to a bigger one after 1 year. Then the oil job in me woke up, and I started pursuing it. And just last month, I moved down to Port Harcourt, and started with an oil servicing company here. I'm even in the field right now.

Yes, the OP has said it all. though I know I'll one day have the time and energy to share my story here.

JUST DO IT!!!!!!

I won't finish listing what things I've lost to indecision and procrastination. In three paragraphs, you've written a book. I can use them as a motivational talk for 2 hours.

I also think some of my best articles have come to me from a blank mind, not knowing what to write or even where to begin. But somehow after a while, the thought would come in torrents and I just inked them down.

Writers are readers. Totally agreed.

Thanks for sharing this experience. You wrote fro experience, not knowledge. I see you struggling to stop because you're just in your natural habitat.

Just keep it up.

Yeah, thanks man!

Very good from you. Books are very important. All we need is already written in books.

Haha. It's takes a lot of courage to write books. Can you share a thing from your fist book?

Time, finance, criticisms, were my major challenges. I had to become my own motivator and number one fan. And I had to learn to close all doors to procrastination. My maxim became, "just do it". Whether it was a chance impression that just flashed through my mind or a one liner I could pick out from a good read, I would just remind myself my "just do it" maxim, and I would immediately get on my table and start writing.

You see, procrastination is every writers enemy. It pushes the book away from you, from missing one or two writing sessions to finally abandoning the work. It rubs you every of your present writing moments until your writing future is gone. It tells you later, next time, after, until the desire dies. Just do it, which I am grateful to Nike for, was my defence against procrastination.

How did I come about my "just do it" maxim? I was the editor of my school's SUG Mag/newspaper. There was this article I had to write, and I was in a limbo on what to write. My time-line was 5 days. On the 4th day, without having done anything beyond just some occasional flash thoughts, I reluctantly dragged myself to my table. For some minutes, I just sat there, empty and confused. Then a quote flashed through my mind, and I began. Little by little, one sentence after another, ideas came pouring down. That day, I wrote an article everyone talked about till I graduated. It then dawned on me that the best a writer can do is to just write. Get on your desk, even if you don't seem to have any idea of what to put down, just sit there. It will surprise you how much ideas would run down your mind. And the more you write, the more you can write. Life's reward to us for doing something, is the ability to do it more and even better. Just start. As you do, the more you can do.

N/B
For one to be a good writer, one has to be a good reader.

The ability to write. Is it always a gift? Can it be learned? What's the challenges with writing a book?

Dearpreye, one of the most intelligent monikers on Nairaland. Thanks!

My opinion!
The ability to write is mainly a gift. The part nature plays here cannot be over rated. Some people are naturally imbued with uncommon literal imagination and word creativity. Truly, majority of writers are predominantly gifted in writing. You have to be cut out for writing to begin and also sustain a prolific writing life. The desire has to be natural to keep you going, and it also has to be stronger than the setbacks that'll come in your way for you not to give up.

But also, writing can be learned. For example, I grew up a loner (a shy boy in a girls sec sch environment where we lived) with only my mother's bookshelf as my only pay-ground. I grew up on those books. I read and read until the desire to reproduce all I had read began to take formation in me. Another example are the journalists - they learn writing.

The ability to write could also be inspired... born out of the desire to impact lives. Majority of human builders/motivators fall into this category. The strong desire to instill their philosophies and principles into the lives of others turn them to writers. Sometimes it could be their personal experiences and the desire to redirect others either to or away from meeting such experiences. Those in this category are mostly story tellers. They may not have great literary skills but the earnestness of their works and the inherent need in man to get into the "secrets" of others or learn from the tragedy(nothing sells like tragedy) of others, bring them renown as writers.
