Fitch Ratings, a global ratings agency has stated that Nigeria will continue to experience sluggish recovery following a weak business climate, regulatory uncertainty in the oil sector and tight credit supply which has held back investment.  The agency which predicted that the country’s GDP growth would average 2.2 per cent in 2019-2020, below its previous 10-year average of 4.2 per cent and the current ‘B’ median of 3.4 per cent, added that the high unemployment and inflation would constrain private consumption. 

Fitch who affirmed the country's long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating at ‘B+’ with a stable outlook, stated that Nigeria will continue to experience a sluggish recovery, driven by the rebound in oil prices and the expansion of services.

“A large infrastructure deficit, which is illustrated by acute power supply shortages and security challenges, also dampen the medium-term growth outlook. Nigeria’s ratings are supported by the large size of its economy, a track record of current account surpluses and a relatively low general government debt-to-GDP. This is balanced against poor governance and development indicators, structurally low fiscal revenues and high dependence on hydrocarbons. The rating is also weighed down by subdued GDP growth and inflation that is higher than in rating peers," it said.

Is it any wonder then that they excelled in professions which placed a premium on skills they'd inculcated for entirely different reasons?

Besides, as grandstar already noted, due to rampant discrimination it's not as if there were many other occupations open to them other than finance, business, law and industry. In 19th century Europe, the "prestige" careers were in government, farming and the army, all of which barred Jews (in many places they couldn't own land). Being "in trade" or working in industry was regarded as "undignified", which only slowly changed as people in these fields began to make vast sums of money.

In any case, it isn't even correct to say that "Ashkenazi Jews" as a group were "successful", even in the 20th century, as the prosperous Jews of Britain, France and Germany were vastly outnumbered by the pauperised "Ostjuden" of Poland, Russia and other Eastern European countries, from whose ranks the great majority of American Jews are descended. This vast number of penniless Jews only "disappeared" after 1939 because Hitler systematically murdered them, not because of any unique talents they supposedly had. Ironically enough, the same quacks who go on and on about "Ashkenazi Jews" today have very close personal and political links to the Hitler-admiring types who deny the Holocaust ever happened!

Nigerians are the most educated demography in the USA. Does that mean they are better than other Africans or African Americans? Certainly not. We are all products of our environment.

The Jews as a people were all literate due to the fact they had to study the scriptures and that was a divine law.

Also, because of the divine law, they were compelled to be conservative. Conservative people tend to be serious minded and this gives them the discipline needed to succeed in life

Also. the Jews faced lots of racism in Europe and were barred from many professions.

Finance wasn't one of them. They became money lenders and they thrived in it. Education was probably another area they did not face limitations.

So the discriminatory laws at the end of the day favoured them for it forces them to specialise.

As for Sephardic Jews, they were poorer than the Ashkenazi. Also Israel was founded by the European Jews who discriminated against the Sephardic Jews.

Even in America where many Jews emigrated to, the Jews discriminated against each other. Germanic Jews and Polish Jews did not get on well.

The Chinese are another conservative race and it is believed that it's because of Confucian values that are very successful. Anywhere they go, they dominate.

Look up the "Flynn Effect" on Google Scholar to see what I'm talking about.
