Blue3k2: DICON unproductivity is troubling co siding they been around 1964. They should be making more sophisticated weapons after decades of bring in exist but all they do is design light arms. Recently Nigeria bought a cache of ammunition from Europe. If they got rid of security votes and just channeled it towards military and other security forces it be better. Its more efficient than splitting it 100 ways.
Im thinking DICON role should be re-examined. They private sector can manufacture everything from weapons to equipment. They can do PPP to contract work domestically. Proforce and Innoson already do things like armoured vehicles. It seems like there is nothing the Nigerian public sector can do right. |

Ethiopia recently spent 6 billion dollars to make a dam generating 6450 mega watts. Meanwhile 20 billion dollars could get us merely 1000 me because of corruption. That's why buhari once talked about probing obasanjo because it's so obvious that the 20 billion dollars was embezzled. |

LoJ: What is the cause of this tendency to scam among Nigerians.
If I had not known great Nigerian people, in the like of sarassin or Mizmycoli, or happypagan I would have run away from anything related to Nigeria for life.
90% of all Nigerians I later got in touch with, tried to scam me one way or the other. A few successfully did. Others failed. Most were totally dishonest.
What is the cause of this. I went from Being the greatest supporter of the Nigerian culture, to a disillusioned and disenchanted observer of the country.
Poverty can't be the only reason, as most subsaharian countries are even doing worse than Nigeria.
Thank god for the few men of integrity left in that otherwise great country. I like the Nigerian culture a lot, but I fear some of the people equally much. I Which country are you from ? |

Acidosis: They expect Samsung to open a silicon mining firm in Nigeria, revive Ajaokuta steel firm, launch an iron ore and aluminum industry, revive PHCN etc.. All in the name of manufacturing phones in the damn country.
If global companies reason in that manner, none will survive the first year of business operations.
The way Nigerians reason baffles me a lot. It is clear we don't even have the human resources. So I guess Samsung will end up building new schools in the name of producing phones in the damn country where minimum wage stands at #18,000. Phones that majority can't even afford the screen.
Anyone that picks offence on seeing this glaring facts about Nigeria should have his/her head checked. Let me remind us all that Nigeria has one of the worst power supply/generation in the whole world.
Tecno and Infinix sef never consider manufacturing in the country Best they can do is exactly what they've been doing -- produce the phones in China, ship it down to Nigeria, and get some dancers, print some blue Tecno shirts, get some choreographers and speakers in Ikeja When it comes to hiring dancers, street marketers and disturbing the whole computer village with noise, we are very good! I am certain that present day Nigerians have better lives than the the inhabitants of the area 400 years ago. However, they are now comparing their lives with Europeans and Americans, hence the reason they feel they are in some sort of "hell". This is very very true. |

Politics › Re: BREAKING: Buhari Unveils New Electricity Target For 2021, 2023 by urahara(m): 4:54pm On Jul 22, 2019 |
Ebullience: President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled a new power target for the country, following the signing of electricity road map agreement between the Federal Government and German-based Siemens. The signing of the implementation agreement was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.
The Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), Dr. Alex Okoh signed on behalf of the federal government and the Chief Executive Officer of the Siemens, Mr. Joe Kaeser signed for the firm.
The deal, our correspondent reports, was the product of a meeting President Buhari held with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel on August 31, 2018.
Speaking during the signing of the agreement, the president said the government’s goal was to deliver electricity to Nigerian businesses and homes. The target are in three phases. 7,000 megawatts in 2021, 11,000 in 2023 when the president’s second term will elapse. The final phase has a target of 25,000mw. The president said: “My challenge to Siemens, our partner investors in the Distribution Companies, the Transmission Company of Nigeria and the Electricity Regulator is to work hard to achieve 7,000 megawatts of reliable power supply by 2021 and 11,000 megawatts by 2023 – in phases 1 and 2 respectively. “After these transmission and distribution system bottlenecks have been fixed, we will seek – in the third and final phase – to drive generation capacity and overall grid capacity to 25,000 megawatts.”
He said, with the strong commitment to the development of Mambilla Hydroelectric and the various solar projects under development across the country, the long-term power generation capacity will ensure adequate energy mix and sustainability in the appropriate balance between urban and rural electrification. “Our intention is to ensure that our cooperation is structured under a Government-to-Government framework. No middlemen will be involved, so that we can achieve value for money for Nigerians. We also insist that all products be manufactured to high quality German and European standards and competitively priced.
“This project will not be the solution to all our problems in the power sector. However, I am confident that it has the potential to address a significant amount of the challenges we have faced for decades,” he said. “It is our hope that as the power situation improves, we will improve investor confidence, create jobs, reduce the cost of doing business and encourage more economic growth in Nigeria,” he said.

philip0906: Lagos state generated internally $1 billion dollars in 2018 and has borrowed more than 500 billion naira...So that money cannot fix street lights/traffic lights? or fix potholes? Or cannot even get us a bare face rail system? Or maybe the $1 billion was spent to pay salaries...? About 80 percent of revenues for states in Nigeria is spent on paying salaries to an over bloated public sector. 1 billion dollars isn't enough. |

philip0906: You have completely side stepped the core of my arguement which is Lagos state generates MORE THAN ENOUGH to have these; functional mass transit system, no potholes on their roads, functional traffic lights/street lights
How much does Cape Town generate? How much does Algiers generate? But these two cities have solid infrastructure that MATCHES their population and dwarfs the nonsense we have here. Or you want to tell me that the revenue that Lagos state generates is not enough to even provide the basic of these amenities that other sane cities enjoy? Algeria revenue for 41 million people is more than that of Nigeria's revenue for 200 million people. |
