zephrsmile: I will gladly bust ur bubble. If we like we can be yoruba history teacher sef. But we have a Constitution in Nigeria which supercedes any traditional customs. Besides where is the best interest of the child in this narrative. So, you would want to deceive us that yoruba women have no rights in marriage abi? Nice try. It's men like you that help to propagate this silly attitudes in some yoruba men. Does yoruba customs also support not providing for your family? Or exposing them to external shame and ridicule by raking up debts for your wife to pay. Or even drug use by the head of the family. Please enlightened us with your infinite knowledge on tradition. My dear Nigerian constitution does not supercede customary laws. Customary laws are annex of the Nigerian constitution and it's well recognized by the constitution. That is why we have customary court. Just a point of correction. |

haryomikun: Thanks for enlightening me sir. I didn't now before coz I once saw a mother in law and husband get into an argument where he threatened to leave the wife... Mother in law was like she'd drag him to court. Husband was like they can't make a case in court coz they are only traditionally married It's ok dear. The cons of traditional marriage is it is decided by the customary court. And customary court look at cases from the customs and tradition of the community. Nigerian legal recognize that each committee have different customs and tradition which must be respected. I will give you an example of what I am saying. In most Igbo land women are excluded from owning landed assets. But some part of rivers state allows women to own landed assets. So our women from the river line area are ok while those from the other side are endeared. So will is the only means of bridging the gap. Once you have tradition and court marriage. My dear if you meet deadly uncles the cab still mess you up. |

I guess you are just as ignorant as some post I read here. What do you mean that his mom have no legal right to claim her husband things if the man is not alive? We are talking about Nigeria here! Nigeria constitution recognizes and upholds customary marriages. The are at pair with the court marriages. Whatever you are doing make sure you have a will because in Nigeria judicial system there is always conflict of law. And customary laws most times wins. Lawyers in the house can help educate us about conflict of laws. Back to the op. I am not discouraging anyone. But if you have any type of marriage always have your will written. That is the guaranteed way of protecting your family. Remember once you have traditional and court marriage. You have invited the conflict of law and there will be validity test of the laws between customary and English law and it can go both ways. Only the wise will understand what I have stated. haryomikun: Omotayor123 You just brought sentiment into Toks2008's topic.
What she meant with her points,,,,
1. If your father wanted d to leave your mother he would have. Forget say I'm be ur papa. And if ur mum isn't independent then u'd suffer without him paying a dime. U say its impossible... U aren't your dad. U can't control what ur dad sees or feels. So if ur dad leaves ur mum today or sends her away well, she doesn't have any claim as the legal wife. The truth is bitter but its still true.
2. God forbid, if your dad died and your family members from ur father's side decided to seize his properties at the time when u were still young perhaps, well, it'd b legal coz ur mum isn't the official wife by law. Make dem drag to court o or anything, all d properties go end up with the family members. That's the point OP was tryna make.
I wish them more years to their already long lasting marriage though.

A friend say that his wife has changed and the first thing I ask him was if the woman watches soap and his response was she is glued to it. I visited them one time when the had this big fight and she called me over and the daughter said to me "mom is acting like Jessica now" I asked her who is Jessica and she said " Jessica in the movie" I have forgotten the name of that Indian Soap she mentioned. Right now they are separated. Ladies sometime didn't differentiate between reality and movie. |

Meanwhile, to improve local production we need to provide certain things like steady power supply and security which is not at its best currently.. My opinion thou, I studied computer not economics.. You just said my mind. It's a simple clear cut case that have proven to work. Example is India. Make import so Expensive like 500% of the import value. MadCow1: What Manner am I thinking?
So you are saying that Mitsubishi just makes engines and keep and wait for someone else to buy it and put inside another whip?
Seriously!!
Boeing, designs, engineers and makes the blueprint of the aircraft.. Fabricating the parts are left to others to do according to the specs DESIGNED and AUTHORIZED by Boeing.
Nigeria makes brake pads, but we did not design the brake pads. We simply just made it according to the specs of the company that owns the patent design for the car. That does not make the car that would use the brake pad Nigerian. In my response to you I gave you three instance were assembly plants are regarded as made by the company. In patent laws, after some years the design and patent becomes generic meaning anyone can use it without infringing on the patent laws. For instance panadol and paracetamol are all generic Patents. The companies that makes them never invented them. Tv, radio are all in the same category. So stop saying CKD are not made in Nigeria because no car plant is self sufficient. In the case of Malaysia car plant. You can read about it. All the parts and design are made Mitsubishi but the are made in Malaysia cars. In the case of Mercedes in the USA. 60% of the parts and design are done in Germany. But you are pride of them. In the case of Airbus. All the parts are sourced and made by other company. Rollce rose makes and design the engine. The do not make a single part. The are just assembly by Airbus. Be pride of your product. At least it is a step towards a right direction. |

Yes the not considered the are marked and printed MADE IN NIGERIA. You can go close to one if you didn't own one and see if it's written made in Nigeria. Mercedes and VW have assembly plant in the USA but the parts comes from Germany except some line. Malaysia local cars are their pride. But the engine and parts are made by Mitsubishi. Boeing and Airbus are just assembly lines. No car or aircraft manufactures cars in the manner you are thinking. The are all assembly line.

I guess you didn't know the history of Zimbawa and what happened to them. They never devalued their currency, what happened to them was depraciation and not devaluation as a result of the president decision to take over land owned by foreigners. That made international community to put an embargo on their export. This resulted to hyper inflation. Someone just explained this in a simple language guess you never cared to read. linearity: These links are directly from the source, like they say from the 'horse mouth' aka from First Bank, UBA, Stanbic Bank, GTB, etc; are you saying these Banks can be parading what they no longer offer online? It is understandable when one bank fails to take down such products from their websites, but all of them can not just forget to take it down at the same time.
If you say, their are some restrictions in obtaining a dom account, I will agreed, but a total ban? Haba, Nigeria never bad like that na....I know there was a time the Banks were complaining of been flooded with foreign currencies in dom accounts, because according to the Banks..'their faults were full": http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/cbn-domiciliary-account-and-the-economy/
..and as such they implemented some restrictions...in any case..it appear those same faults no longer have foreign currencies and they have gone in the opposite direction in terms of policies/restrictions...
That is 9ja for you, but I love that country die, it is the only place on earth where my body, soul, spirit and mind are in unison. The ban is on forex deposit into a Dom account. You can't physically deposit forex into Dom account any more except it's a wire transfer which defects the purpose of having one in the first place. You are free to open one but you can't make deposits physically. |

linearity: It appear the answer is to open a dom account in Nigeria, base on my understanding from what I have read so far, this policy only affects naira accounts.
Yes, buying dollars on the streets to fund your dom account can be expensive, but what is the use of that money, when you can't spend it.
Another method is to look for 9ja abroad who operate accounts in Nigeria and strike a deal with them, do Internet transfer into their 9ja account and they can pay you cash abroad in hard currency or make a reciprocal transfer into your foreign accounts. I have done this for countless friends, it is a win-win, but again be ready to make the transaction at the prevailing market rate.
Many 9jas abroad having one or two on going projects in 9ja or the constant need to pay someone in 9ja and as such can be open to such one way transactions i.e. Money going into their 9ja naira account without needing back abroad. Your number one solution is out of place because banks didn't accept forex deposit anymore. The second option can work and I think is the only way for OP. |
