Sombrerogalaxy: god is simply man's creation! We have successfully created ~ 100, 000 of them with various levels of popularity, properties and perpetuity. Depending on the culture you belong to, you are likely to be emotionally attached a different deity. But one thing that is common everywhere is that the concept of god is simply illogical. Different gods in different cultures and at different times have handed different rules to different people!

For example, the jewish god at one time actively encouraged genocide even though one of his main commandments is "thou shalt not kill". He claims he never changes, yet a simple casual evaluation of his properties over time reveals a flip-flopping, ambiguous character who easily adapts with the prevailing norm at anytime. At one time, it is a duty to kill anyone who prays to anyone of the other gods, at some other time, later in his evolution, it is mandatory to love your enemies and even pray for them! Yet he claims, he is eternal, constant, never changing!!!!
On a moral level, you wouldn't want to be associated with anyone(anything) who(that) advocates hate crimes, but yet, multitude still worship this deity and they take pride in it. If we are not proud of despots who practised hate crimes, why is the modern man happy about the concept of a god who has done such in the past and still promises to do it again in the future, this time eternally??

He encourages us to be like the good samaritan but clearly fails his own commandments several times, and he promises, at a later time he will still flout this principle, eternally. He claims those who do not believe in him will be tortured forever in the most gruesome way imaginable. His capacity to inflict pain is infinite and yet he claims he is love! What a moral, ethical and logical contradiction, even when he claims he is the almighty. Of what use is his almightiness, if his capacity to inflict pain far outweighs his capacity to love??

WHY DO WE PRAY?

According to religious Books (at least, the ones I know), it is an agreed belief that the Omniscient God has a Purpose and Plan for every life on earth, and from the Bible, "God does not lie and cannot change his mind." (Numbers 23:13).

The question is "Why Do We Pray?"

God has a plan and purpose for you, right?

God cannot change his mind, right?

What then do we expect from God when we pray?

Do you pray to an All-Knowing God to "REMIND" him of your needs? (But Christ said he "knows your need before you ask" Matthew 6:6-7)

Is it just an act of devotion? (Cool. But Oops, devotion or no devotion, how does that affect his Plan and Purpose for you?)

If your death is meant to be today and then you pray to God to avert every possible death for you that day, what are you telling God to do? To "change his mind"?

Look, what I'm saying in essense is this:

If God is Omniscient as you believe, every prayer to Him regarding your needs undermines his nature and are futile since he already has an ungoing plan that even your prayers can't change. (I'm not talking about praise, thanksgiving and blah blah blah, I'm talking about prayer for favour from God.)

cold: Yep true,i was a devout Christian for many years. Living by his word,never questioning because i was made to understand his ways were not our ways. I prayed without ceasing,diligently payed my tithes & offerrings,endeavoured to read my Bible everyday & the other pamphlets & Bible commentaries. the god concept is hated and laughed at because,

* it lacks reason

* it has no proof

* it is contradictory.

All my life I've been a staunch believer in the existence of God and followed him without question. And I've even defended his works as best as I possibly can. So don't come on here thinking that I just woke up one morning with all these dilemma running through my head, ok?

I am not bigoted. I am not loose either. I just can't afford to have my reasoning toyed with (against my will) to the pleasure of someone sitting on a Chair (Throne or whatever) up there in some place they call Heaven.

Now, please don't take it personal. I am not willing to allow myself to get so loose and immoral just because I feel or think there is no one to punish me.

It is a general thesis that God, the supreme Being, knows all things (past, present and future) and even sees an event before it happens. It's also a general belief that God loves everyone equally [since he created us all]. With that in mind, we can tell that he already knows what our future will be before bringing us into existence.

QUESTION: Why then does Satan, Sin, Hell, Destruction, e.t.c exist? People say it was satan but God created Satan, didn't he?

God said his plan for his creation is GOOD, thus, is it right that I KNOW something will corrupt, contaminate, harm or destroy my GOOD plan and then go ahead to create it?

Who killed the people at Nyanya? The Bomb or the People who MADE and PLANTED the bomb??

Since God created Satan. He (the BUILDER) is responsible for the problems we are facing not satan (the BOMB).

Well, maybe he did NOT know that things will turn out this way. Maybe he isn't ALL-KNOWING afterall

Please don't tell me that God was "testing us," you only test (or experiment) what you are not sure of. I don't see an ALL-KNOWING God wanting to have his works tested when he ought to have had foreknowledge of what he has created!!!

It was easy to say "Let there be light" and "there was light" in the Scriptures but it is seeming so difficult to say "Let there be peace" and "there was peace" in reality.

Definitely, if God truly exists, he is the cause of all we're going through.

I wonder what actually made we Nigerians to give in to the preachings of those white outsiders. I wonder how right thinking persons viewed just one true God and one true religion out of the numerous thousands out there. In Maths, the probability of picking the right one would be approximately 1/100,000. Christians, Muslims, Polytheists, Hindus (ignoring the numerous denominations under them) all claim to have the right God(s) and religion or way of life.

Why would God make it so difficult for people to locate him even while knowing that a lot of these poor people will willingly devout all their lives to him.

Think about a person like Mother Theresa spending an eternity in hell or facing destruction just because she was a catholic and didn't believe in 99,999/100,000 of the other gods besides hers.

Or Mahatma Gandhi believing in a league of Gods but spending an eternity in hell or facing destruction for not knowing the true God or practising the true religion?

What image does that paint for a God who hides himself from his creation and punishes them for not finding him
