RomanceRe: Should I Have Done This? by valenlabella(f):
Stand your ground and tell her no! It sounds as if she knows what she's doing by using emotional blackmail to make you stay and your close family ties will make it awkward for you to remain in a relationship with her anyway. Besides, is it by fire by force?! undecided
CultureRe: Is It Appropriate To Look At Elders In The Eyes When Having A Discussion? by valenlabella(f): 3:38pm On Jan 05, 2013
Depends on the culture really. Growing up in the UK, I was taught by my teachers that not looking someone in the eye, especially adults was disrespectful whereas in certain nigerian cultures, looking elders in the eye can be seen as being rude.
FashionRe: The Beauty Of Shea Butter(ori)(kadanya) by valenlabella(f): 11:19pm On Jan 03, 2013
I love the way shea butter enhances one's natural beauty and complexion; whether you're ebony skinned or light it just gives you this radiant glow. I always have people asking me what cream I use. Mixed with morrocan argan oil, it's pure heaven!
FamilyRe: Being The Only Child Of Your Parents: How Has It Been Like? by valenlabella(f): 11:06pm On Jan 03, 2013
I felt the loneliness a lot when I was very young and it made me to be quite introverted as a child. However as I grew older, I made a lot of friends and really came out of my shell (can even be described as a bit of a wild child grin)
Besides there are a few benefits of being an only child e.g. having your own space, special status...

And no I wasn't spoilt...just slightly over pampered. tongue
CelebritiesRe: Empress Njamah Stuns In Christmas Photoshoot! by valenlabella(f): 10:34am On Dec 31, 2012
No this picture does her no justice whatsoever...she even looks slightly uncomfortable in the way that she's posing.
RomanceRe: Beautiful But With A Material Stigma!!! by valenlabella(f): 6:28pm On Sep 19, 2012
I think the best thing to do is tell her your concerns about her materialistic nature within your relationship. If she refuses to see sense and change, end the relationship as anybody who is with you soley for economic gains is not deserving of your love. Ideally you should have picked up on this earlier in your relationship, hopefully you've learnt a lesson. Move on and find yourself a woman that truly loves you for you and will support you with ways to generate more income and save for a stable future instead of finishing it wink. Goodluck!
CelebritiesRe: Pictures Of Ngozi Ezeonu: Is She Better Slimmer Or Bigger? by valenlabella(f): 7:20pm On Sep 07, 2012
Regardless of her size, I still think she's really pretty but she lost the weight too quick, resulting in a bit of flabby skin and an unproportionate figure, which in my opinion slightly takes away from her beauty
FoodRe: Is Eating Out Alone A Social Taboo? by valenlabella(f): 7:09pm On Sep 07, 2012
I won't say it's a taboo or unacceptable; you're just enjoying your own company. However, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable eating out alone...each to their own I guess!
CelebritiesRe: Ghanaian Actress And Their Tribes: Which Tribe Has The Most Beautiful Actresses by valenlabella(f): 9:45pm On Sep 01, 2012
DARE_FATADE: Twi is the main language spoken by the Akan ethnic group which consist of the Ashantis, the Fantis, and other small tribes. They have Ashanti twi and Fanti Twi. Ashanti twi and Fanti twi is like English and broken english, i hope you know what i mean. however over 80% of ghanaians, regardless of what tribe they belong to or language they speak, knows how to speak the Ashanti twi. i am half fanti/ half yoruba, i speak both fanti and Ashanti twi.
Oh okay now I understand smiley
CelebritiesRe: Ghanaian Actress And Their Tribes: Which Tribe Has The Most Beautiful Actresses by valenlabella(f): 8:09pm On Sep 01, 2012
Doesn't Twi and Fanti fall under the Ashanti ethnic group? I thought they were just languages within the group. Anyway, based on the pictures posted, Fanti all the way!
CultureRe: Does One's Character Or Behaviour Depend On His State Of Origin? by valenlabella(f): 10:58am On Sep 01, 2012
sleekysol: It is a popular notion that someone from a particular part of the country potrays certain characters or has some unique behavioural traits. For instance, it is a widely believed that yorubas are lousy, igbos are money conscious, hausas are harsh, calaba girls are sexy, uhrobo na wayo, edo girls are hustlers e.t.c. The list goes on and on but the bottom line is; are this characters tribally instilled by default or is it a just a coincidence. The fact is that many yorubas are not lousy, many hausas are very friendly, many igbos are actually easy on money. What is your opinion nairalanders

I think you've already answered your own question.
CelebritiesRe: Mr & Mrs Idibia. Cute? by valenlabella(f): 1:11pm On Aug 13, 2012

EducationRe: Pls Help Me, Wah Do I Do? by valenlabella(f): 10:42pm On May 13, 2012
Maybe it's the way that you study; you may be studying for large amounts of time but if it's not done in an effective way unique to your learning style that may be the cause. Analyse how you take notes and your preferred learning style e.g. taking notes in bullet points or drawing mind maps? Also for essays, try formulating a structure that will enable you to address key points as well as give a detailed critical analysis of the points your'e trying to get across. Past papers are a great way of practice; the more you do the better and try varying your rescources: wide range of books, lecture notes, journals/articles etc.
All in all don't beat yourself up!! You only truly appreciate success when you realise the pain you went through to acheive it. I know you said you were muslim, for me as a christian, I constantly remind myself that when I am weak, God is His strongest, so keep diligently working towards your goals, displaying determination and focus and see success start to flow in your studies!! wink
CelebritiesRe: Picture Of Davido's Baby by valenlabella(f): 10:15pm On May 13, 2012
Looks absolutely nothing like davido in my opinion!! People are too quick to jump to conclusions anyway
RomanceRe: Girlfriend Being Annoying! by valenlabella(f): 6:29pm On May 13, 2012
She seems a bit immature in my opinion, though she may not be aware of it. If indeed you've tried drumming it into her that you don't really find her 'jokes' amusing and she still insists on behaving in this manner, I think it would be best for you two to part.
CultureRe: How Come There Is No Screaming In African Music? by valenlabella(f): 3:52pm On May 12, 2012
TisaBone: What I mean by that is in AA music we always have to belt...think Patti Labelle or Aretha Franklin. I always assumed that style of singing was testament to the fact that the African essence still continues to exist in All Africans in Diaspora. But as I listen to 2face, to p-square, and Wizkid (who sounds like he's trying his best to imitate T-pain) none are belting. Why is this? Don't African singers use the belting technique too?
I understand where you're coming from but this pertains to techniques such as call and response. I think belting is more of an original AA thing. And you can't really use p-square, wizkid and 2face as examples as they're not really 'singers' (in my opinion anyway lol). Maybe artists like Tiwa Savage, Timi Dakolo or Lara might belt from time to time but even still, all these artists have been influenced by American music one way or the other so like I said earlier I don't think belting is a traditional african thing.

LOL! grin grin
OP you claim to be a "real" muslim yet you don't know that women are instructed to cover their hair for MODESTY not because of scaredy cat angels? shocked Wow....interesting!
Back to the topic, if it's the covering of hair that you will value in a marriage then say bye bye, but if it's the mutual love, respect and happiness between the two of you then continue, it's not difficult! Honestly the things people come up with these days.....

It's obvious you need professional help...I'm entitled to my own opinion just like everyone else is and if you don't like it: PISS OFF AND SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any one who gives their children tribal marks in this day and age is committing child abuse in my opinion.
RomanceRe: Read This Short Story , Please!! by valenlabella(f): 9:57pm On Apr 24, 2012
I understand how you feel because I can be a bit of an introverted person myself. That notwithstanding, I think your's is a bit of an extreme case! What you need to understand is that qualifications, money and material things aren't the most important thing in a relationship; personality, character and compatability come first, and this is why she probably chose the other guy instead. What you should do is ask yourself why you're so shy and find ways to overcome this: socialising more, making new friends and trying different hobbies and activities. Also try searching for someone who enjoys doing the same activities as you, e.g. someone who prefers a quiet night in than clubbing all night. There's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoyimg your own company once in a while but for a relationship to work, face to face communication and personality are key elements. I'm sure you have a fun personality (and possibly even a little wild side)...just about time to let it show! Goodluck wink
TV/MoviesRe: You Know It's A Nigerian Movie When... by valenlabella(f): 6:14pm On Apr 24, 2012
Loooooool at this thread! You know it's a nollywood movie when lovers in the village start singing to one another by a tree and it's obvious it's not the actors singing

when the background music is playing over the actors speaking

when the princesses and queens in modern films always wear lace wigs and jewelleries that make them look like fools

when Mike Ezuruonye, Jim Iyke and Hank Anuku always have fake american accents

Nonso Diobi always shouts and John Okafor is always the village fool!

grin
FamilyRe: Whats The Need Of Paying Dowry by valenlabella(f): 7:24pm On Apr 20, 2012
I think its just a cultural thing that has yet to be done away with yet. And in some cultures it's symbolic for example yoruba people give the husband back the money during the trad wedding (I think)....
RomanceRe: Should I Move On Or Still Stick Around Him??? by valenlabella(f): 11:07pm On Apr 19, 2012
Any man who treats you the way he treats you is not worthy of your love at all! It's obvious he has no respect for you and doesn't take your relationship seriously. The best advice I can give you is to move on and find someone else who is willing to treat you with respect and love you the way that he should.
