Career › Re: Reps Wants CBN To Sanction Banks Casualizing Staff by VanGun: 7:17am On Dec 05, 2019 |
Freshgossip: The House of Representatives has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to penalize commercial banks that fail to convert all casual workers to permanent staff without delay.
The Green Chamber urged all commercial banks to convert all casual workers to permanent staff. Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Best-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg The resolutions followed the consideration of motion moved by Amobi Akintola (APC, Osun) during Wednesday’s plenary.
According to Akintola, most of the banks are raking in billions as profit but equally continue to casualize workers.
Akintola explained that “prior to the emergence of new generation banks in Nigeria, staff of banks were usually full time workers and entitled to series of benefits from the banks they worked for, including promotions, health packages, productivity, life insurance policies, housing allowances, wardrobe allowances, feeding allowances etc. which made banking jobs enviable work for all and sundry in the country;
“That with the advent of new generation banks in the country, so many things changed in the banking industry but despite all the challenges being faced by the new generation banks, the financial sector still remains one of the most viable sectors of the Nigerian economy with each of the banks having a minimum of twenty-five billion naira only (N25, 000,000,000) as its capital base.”
He stated further that “In 2017, Guaranty Trust Bank declared a profit before tax of one hundred and eighty-six billion naira only (N186,000,000,000) followed by Zenith Bank Plc, which in the same financial year declared a profit before tax of one hundred and seventy-three billion naira only (N173,000,000,000) while Access Bank Plc came third with a profit of eighty billion naira (N80,000,000,000) and by the end of that year, all the banks in Nigeria had declared jumbo profits, a situation that was repeated in 2018 when the banks made huge profits;
“Commissions and charges that banks had raked in as at September 30, 2019 were over seven hundred billion naira (N700,000,000,000), without considering money generated from loans, advances and other portfolio investments of the banks, evidencing the lucrative nature of banking business.”
The lawmaker linked uptick in fraud in the banking sector to the casualization of workers in the sector.
“Despite the huge profits being made by commercial banks, they still casualize most of their core operational staff, as (90) percent of bank workers are casual staff, a development that is an act of exploitation of the unemployed youths;
“Core operations of banks like tellering customer service, relationship management, marketing, business development, internal controls etc are being handled by contract staff who are not entitled to promotion, health care services, utility allowances, productivity etc, thus making them to be virtual slaves within the banking sector as six months ago, Eco Bank laid off over a thousand casual staff;
“The practice of casualization of staff is causing a rise in fraud rate perpetrated by staff and also psychological trauma among those set of staff to the extent that a contract staff committed suicide in 2010 when he was retrenched by WEMA Bank without any compensation and in another incidence few days ago, during a robbery attack in Ekiti State on Thursday November 21, 2019, the Police explained how a CCTV footage exposed a bank staff involved in the robbery operation.”
The House, therefore, mandated the Committee on Banking and Currency to interface with commercial banks on the need to stop casualization of their core operational staff and also mandated the Committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance.

Car Talk › Re: Mercedes Benz W124 Popularly Known As 'V-Boot' Is 35 Years Old (Photos) by VanGun: 7:17am On Dec 05, 2019 |

The Mercedes-Benz 124 Model Series which is popularly known as V-Boot was introduced 35 years ago. Years back, this was a popular modern car, but today, it’s now a young vintage car. Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Best-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg On 26 November 1984 the brand from Stuttgart initially introduced the new saloons (W 124) in Seville (Spain). They were introduced to the market in December of the same year. Later the estate (1985, S 124), coupé (1987, C 124), saloon with a long wheelbase (1989, V 124), cabriolet (1991, A 124) and chassis for special bodies were to follow.
In 1993 the model series became the first generation of the upper executive segment of Mercedes-Benz to carry the E-Class name. The 500 E and 400 E V8 were particularly sort-after classics; the performance versions by Mercedes-AMG as well as the elegant two-door versions were too.
This Mercdes-Benz was among the cars our fathers rocked back in the days. Most daddies preferred the manual gearbox to the automatic gearbox. This was regarded to be a road warrior built for Nigerian roads.

safarigirl: Disclaimer: if you're already here, you must have just done your subscription, I apologise in advance
If you have not seen a Nollywood movie recently, I regret to inform you, you’re denying yourself of flavorful eye candies and sweet dreams. In continuation of my yearly ritual of creating a thread for the Nollywood hotties that have set our screens on fire and caused some of us to reminisce on our teenage years, filled with Harlequin and Mills&Boons-endorsed strapping gentlemen with witty words and panty-wetting smiles, this is a list profiling and fawning over the men that have caused improper thoughts and re-evaluation of life choices in 2019 Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Best-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg
12. Uzor Arukwe
Our sexy nerd makes it on the list, because damn! He’s got a body on him . Have you seen Uzor Arukwe’s chest acting skills? Ladies, I kid you not, behind those glasses and that awkward, nerdy demeanor, issa MAN. Uzor is an act that grows on you, I first saw him on Fine Girl alongside Lota Chukwu and Ozzy Agu, and while he was somewhat forgettable in that movie, we are so glad, movie producers and directors had better plans for him. Since then, he has impressed incredibly in movies like Hire A Woman, Sergeant Tutu and the incredibly funny, Smash. Hopefully, Uzor’s broad chest skilled acting, makes it on our screens for a very long time

11. Demola Adedoyin
Now, you know we weren’t going to center this list on broad chests and strong builds….okay, maybe we are just a lil bit, but doesn’t mean we can’t have our cuties on here. Demola Adedoyin is all levels of cute and charming, if you don’t crack a smile when he shows up on your screen, well….i have no words for you. A lot of people recognize Demola from Kunle Afolyan’s box office movie, October 1st, where he played a lead role, however, since then, Demola has featured in other movies like The Bridge alongside Chidinma Ekile and another blockbuster movie, the highly rated Kemi Adetiba movie, King Of Boys, alongside Sola Sobowale. Demola’s charming smile and cool demeanor are winning traits that keep him on our minds long after the end credits are over in any of his movies

Blossom takes up his lowest spot on this list, since its inception, and it's not because Blossom has lost his mojo. Far from it, Blossom continues to capture our attention with his charming nature, on-screen charisma (that has saved some less impressive co-stars), captivating smile and an indisputable all-round attractiveness. I mean, who wouldn't want to come home to that?
9. Alexx Ekubo
https://valerieirosblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/IMG_20190616_163522_181.jpg
Issa baby boy :p. Our Chop Life Minister, one of the most relativele celebs on the internet, Alexx is here because….well, obviously his good looks, but beyond that, his fun personality is doubly attractive. He's so chill, like the boy next door. You want to sit and chat with him, watch movies, play around and end up in his bed . He's the kind of guy you should never leave your girl with, lest he snatches her with his hilarious nature. Alex mostly plays roles of the pretty boy with not much of a brain, but recently, he tried to change the narrative with his role as Tu Face Lejit, a musician/activist in Power of 1, but even that role couldn't hide his playful nature.

….because, well, HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN KISS? No? No? ohmilord! Remi should do tutorial videos for that, hell, he probably can’t teach that sort of skill. Beyond his ability to suck the soul out of any woman with searing kisses, Remi, an alumni and 2011 winner of the show that did the Lord’s work, by introducing us to some of the attractive men in our entertainment space, Gulder Ultimate Search, is actually a very good actor. He’s been in movies such as Tiwa’s Baggage alongside another alumni and winner of a reality show, Bhayra McWizu, and Falling alongside the brilliant Adesua Etomi, in both movies, Remi has held his own against these women, selling us fantasies we can’t afford and with movies like Quagmire, he doesn’t look ready to end his sales

7. Timini Egbuson https://guardian.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Timini-Egbuson.jpg
How do you follow up an act like Dakore Akande? Well, Timini Egbuson could give us all a few tips, considering he came onto the scene with the huge task of keeping up with the standards set by his older sister, Nollywood Veteran, Dakore,Akande (nee Egbuson). Not only did Timini follow up his big sis, he also carved his own niche in the industry. Timini first came onto our screens thanks to MTv’s Shuga series, however, since then, the Bayelsa native has branched out into the big screens, with roles in movies like Fifty, alongside his sister, most recently, the thriller, Corper…but beyond his acting capabilities, Timini is on this list, because, well, can your boyfriend EVER? A total boo thang and classy man, Timini stuns on and off screen, blessing us with a charming smile and impeccable styles, while teasing the entire female population with his Are they? Aren’t they relationship with actress and good ‘friend’, Sharon Ooja. Whenever you’re ready Timini, we’re going to need a PSA on your relationship status, cuz the queue is loooong.

6. IK Ogbonna https://www.newsbreak.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/IK-Ogbonna-768x841.jpg
Coming in at number six, is the badly with the bawdy , daddy with the juice...wouldn't you want to suck on all that . Since he first featured on screens and had ladies asking "who that?" IK has kept the charm and ramped up the hotness, because if he does not give us, how will we collect? Papa Ace keeps it steamy, but can take out the funny if you need it. Who doesn't love a versatile hunk?

Who better to start up our Top 5, than our breda from two countries away. Forget about Banku, Eddie is the gospel Ghana should be spreading outside their borders. Eddie Watson has been in the industry for some years now, turning heads with not just his acting skills, but his good looks as well. If you're looking for a reason go abandon your man and go to Ghana for the Afronation festival, ladies, this is it.

4. Ayoola Ayolola
https://globaltake.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/c-57.jpg
Who’s in the mood for a cup of hot chocolate? No? A taste of rich, dark decadence, then? Whatever your taste and flavor, Ayoola is sure to make it on your menu, because, damn! That man is fine. What’s not to love? A dazzling smile, sexy eyes, confident carriage, and he’s got a pipe in him to boot. Ayoola is a performer through and through, you know he’s got star quality, we all know he was made for our screens, and if you weren’t convinced when he won MTN Project Fame in 2012, seven years down the line, his role in the highly acclaimed, Ndani hit series, Skinny Girl in Transit, as well as in series like The Men’s Club on RedTv, should have made you a believer. If not, surely, his compelling and commanding performance in the movie, If I Am President, convinced you, even his two or so scenes in The Bling Lagosians had to have you swooning. Whichever way you lean, Ayoola will grab and keep your attention, and we know he’ll be on our screens with his versatile self, hopefully, we’ll get him in a musical one of these days, belting those notes he first captured our attentions with.

3. Bolanle Ninalowo
https://lamodespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_5967.jpeg
A lot of guys are probably scoffing and turning up their noses on sighting this name, but if WTF does not make the list, who wan dey here? Jobe, the one, but not the only, Makanaki. Bolanle burst onto our screens over four years ago, and some of us thought he was just another fine boy with a foreign accent, we greatly apologise Bolanle. Since then, this tall, masculine specimen has proven us all wrong, with his unquestionable versatility. Perhaps, one of his most memorable roles would be in the Rok movie, Picture Perfect, where he plays a street thug that gets involved with a prim and proper seamstress. Weren’t we all pleasantly surprised when our janded boy broke it down in pure vernacular, doing justice to the role in ways we would have never expected. Bolanle has proven to be a bag of surprises, there isn’t a role he can’t pull off, but we best love him in his lover-boy roles, where he’s mesmerizing us with that sexy voice and flexing those muscles

Daughters of Zion, have you off pant yet? Holding down the second spot on this list, is everybody’s husband/boyfriedn/sideboo/fantasy man, we are all dragging this fine piece of chocolate, las las, we share am. If Eyinna has not invaded your dreams yet, ladies, tonight’s the night you lose control , I mean ,what exactly have you been dreaming about. In our eyes, Eyinna can do no wrong. For some of us, Eyinna’s fine ass was noticed in Jeta Amata’s Black November, but greatness takes time, and he officially established himself as a heartthrob when he starred in ElFiKE’s record-breaking movie, The Wedding Party, two years ago, as Banky’s older, sexier brother. Since that starring role, Eyinna has grown in leaps and bounds, blessing us with his presence on our screens. And we must admit, the leading man role, suits him rather nicely.

Akwaaba Ghana. Crowning this list, is none other than our Ghanaian sweetheart, baby boy extraordinaire, style god, classic man, tall dark and suave, the only Ghanaian jollof that matters, smooth as butter and chill as Alaska in December. The perfection that is Mawuli Gavor, cannot be put into words, who knew Ghana had it in them? Mawuli is the hot drink of chocolate we never knew we needed, until he stepped onto the scene, bringing steam to our screens, whether playing Linda's husband in Rumor Has It, or playing the estranged son of a wealthy patriarch in Chief Daddy, Mawuli will always be the epitome of classy and sexy, and we can't wait to see more of him on our screens

AmeboFeeds: Ever conscious leaders and citizens of our beloved Ogun State, I greet you all. I trust that you all must be concerned about the development of our beloved state just as I am. Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Best-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg The activities in our common patrimony demands of us the need to speak out, in the hope that things will be corrected; and in the unlikely event of that not happening, at least, it will be on record that we spoke.
It is about the peer review of our Governor, HE Dapo Abiodun, relative to his handling of affairs in the last six months since he mounted the saddle of authority in Ogun State.
To make things less cumbersome, I will speak under thematic headings and make comparisons with the past governors and also with a few good ones in this present class. For the past, I will be limiting the comparison to HE Olusegun Osoba, HE Gbenga Daniel, and HE Ibikunle Amosun. For those on the saddle right now, I will limit myself to HE Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and HE Bello Mattawalle of Zamfara.
Areas to be reviewed: 1. General perception of capacity in office 2. Stabilisation of governance 3. Quick-wins 4. Recommendations going forward.
I make bold to say that in terms of the general perception of capacity, there is no gainsaying that Ogun has never had it so disappointing. I refresh your minds to how it was in the class of 1999 when Chief Olusegun Osoba was the leader, not only in the South West, but was also revered by many Nigerians as one who moved with clarity. You may need to remember how often his voice was heard, not just on Ogun State issues but also on the issues around the progressives in Nigeria.
Within six months, it was already clear that the Osoba government would take development to the fringes of the state and that the rural areas would get connected with activities. His Commissioner for Works, Segun Adesegun, had settled in office, and his office had become a beehive. At about the same time of six months, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, during his time, had become the wonder boy in government and project development. The entire country knew that something was up in Ogun State. Computerisation of the civil service had commenced. Also, structures and projects were already commissioned. Need I say that Daniel's pace of work was, till then, unmatched in our country. Ogun State was in the news for all the right reasons.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun had, undoubtedly, within the period under review, showed his hand firmly around his strength in road constructions. He had opened up the Ogun State economy for the influx of private sector investors in a way that had not been done before. It is on record that the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration opened more industries in Ogun State than any other state in the country. And needless to say that there was a purposefulness that brought skilled Ogun indigenes in the private sector on board. He had also commenced without delay the review of the Daniel administration. He proved that government is a sacred trust that must be reviewed and accounted for. In six months, the Amosun administration had the full structures of government in place.
Moving on to the present administration, with the activities of HE Dapo Abiodun, perhaps it may seem that he is up to something. But what is with this winking in the dark? What are his handlers doing relative to what we are used to in Ogun State? The continuous statements about public-private partnerships seem to me that the Abiodun government has no clear agenda of its own. And in case it does, it is going about things in a rather snail slow speed, which suggests a lack of preparedness. And to think his government put together such a large committee with a few good names to look at things is baffling to a patriotic citizen and lover of Ogun State.
Compare HE Dapo Abiodun to HE Seyi Makinde and tell me you are not concerned. I have no recollection at any time in this republic that commenced in 1999 that the people of Oyo State ever outpaced us in Ogun; not Lam Adesina, not Ladoja, not Akala, and certainly not Ajimobi. But can we say not Makinde? To say that will be to leave ourselves open to the butt of jokes. HE Abiodun has zero excuses for he has almost everyone, perhaps with the exception of HE Amosun, available to offer insight and suggestions. In our Yoruba proverb: Omo to ba ma je Asamu, kekere lo ti ma senu samu samu. ('The morning tells the day' , or 'make hay while the sun shines').
2. Stabilisation of Government Is it not strange that Ogun State has not put Commissioners in place and populated its statutory commissions and boards? Ogun has never had it so late. There is no excuse nor justification for this. What is not being considered is that not having full structures of governance in place, limits the ideas and energy that the government has to draw from. How can we watch the previously slow Federal Government put its cabinet in place, yet our beloved Ogun State, under HE Dapo Abiodun, will now be grouped alongside states that do not get settled in time to work?
There is the suspicion that those who do not form their cabinets on time are people who desire to run the resources of the state with their cronies, and without input from a cabinet. Whatever be the excuse, it is clear that on this score, one would have to wonder what has become of us. All our neighbours, Lagos and Oyo states, have their cabinets in place, why not Ogun? I am sure his party faithful and supporters are at a loss as to the real reason behind the delay.
3 Quick-Wins Anyone who desires to govern the people must know that humans are animals of short attention spans, and they tend to make up their minds quickly. As such, the champions of each era must understand that people want to see the direction and benefit of development immediately. Again, take a look at Oyo State and take a look at Zamfara and do a media audit of how those governors are perceived; then compare your audit findings with the situation in Ogun State. You will most likely return with the verdict that HE Dapo Abiodun needs to be worried.
The words on the streets of Ogun State are not favourable. Average opinion is that the Governor has taken on a responsibility that he is not prepared for. I find that extremely hard to accept for I recall his desire to be governor as far back as the 2001/2002 season. I am more persuaded to think that the challenge might be Abiodun's lack of team spirit - a case where someone courts everybody but really does not desire to work with anybody. I doubt that between Osoba, Daniel, Team Lagos, Isiaka, Team Yayi and the numerous blocks that are in his largely needless humongous coalition, what we have seen in six months is the best that is possible. So much more is expected and so much more must be done.
Recommendation HE Abiodun needs to review things comprehensively and remember that the class of 2019 governors are going to be under unprecedented pressure. This is because from what I sense, the 2023 race may start way too early, that is if it has not begun already, with all the rumoured ambitions for presidency coming from the stable of the ruling APC. The early start to 2023 elections will take its toll on governance, and, therefore, if the Governor is not careful, he may go down as the worst person to govern Ogun State and what exactly is to be gained from that? Nothing. When our elected representatives perform, they perform for all of us, but when they fail, oh la la, they fail in their names and with enormous consequences. HE Dapo Abiodun has no reason to fail, and he must be encouraged not to.
Passing Words Rarely have I seen a situation where doing less than the other guy is a good strategy. – Jimmy Spithill |

fergie1989: The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the Kogi West Senatorial supplementary election, Dino Melaye, has condemned the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Melaye described it as “Magic results.” Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Best-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg In a series of tweets, the former Senator vowed to contest the results, stressing that “illegality shall never stand.”
He wrote: “16 out of 24 units where the supplementary election was conducted today in Kabba/Bunu LG has been cancelled. This speaks volumes of the disaster called election.
“A situation where APC agents were the ones issuing INEC result sheets at the pooling units is phenomenal.

ijelovve: There was a major crack among the country’s opposition political parties on Sunday after 55 national chairmen of political parties rejected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) call for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo The PDP had last Thursday asked the INEC chief to resign over statements allegedly credited to two INEC Commissioners; Festus Okoye and Haruna Mohammed, that the “card readers were circumvented” in elections conducted by the Commission. https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Best-Naija-Songs.jpghttps://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpghttps://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg The party, in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the statements were admissions that the November 16 governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa, as well as the Kogi West senatorial polls, were rigged.
But the 55 party chairmen, who came together under the aegis of Forum of Chairmen of Nigeria Political Parties, disagreed with the PDP on the call and rejected the party’s position on the efficacy of the smart card reader used at the polls.
The Chairman of the forum, Chief Perry Opara, in a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of the group, insisted that the PDP’s position was not only in bad faith but did not also represent the forum.
The statement read: “It is clear to even less political minds that the smart card reader’s efficacy has been politically and judicially neutralized and it must be mentioned that this was largely done by members of the PDP who argued before the Supreme Court against its relevance in relation to the voter register.
“The Supreme Court only agreed with the arguments of the PDP and therefore neutralized the smart card reader.
“The PDP should therefore not run with the hare and hunt with the hounds. The PDP cannot be crying wolf now when it earlier celebrated the judgments which nullified the Card Readers as a victory for democracy.
“The position of the Supreme Court which for now is the law makes the voter register the final proof of the accreditation of voters. Hence, making the record of the card reader inadmissible in court as proof of accreditation.”

VBCampaign: Why You Should Pay Your Pastor Well
By: Deji Yesufu
Recently I made an appeal for help for a minister friend of mine from Eastern Nigeria. Somebody used the occasion to vilify me; saying that since I have been known in the past for criticizing wealthy pastor, why should anyone offer me any help now. He said that he is happy I am seeing that pastors also need money. Thankfully I did not have to respond to him because someone else had done so. I realize now that it would take time for people to understand my position on religion; hopefully my articles in this column will continue to shed light on matters relating to my views on the Christian faith. https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Best-Naija-Songs.jpghttps://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpghttps://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg I wish to make it clear that whether I am appealing for help in ministry or I am advocating good remuneration for pastors, as this piece would soon outline, I still remain a strong antagonist of a kind of Christian ministry that has pervaded much of Nigeria. I maintain that Christian ministers cannot be millionaires. The phrase “millionaire pastor” is an oxymoron and all who today can be described in this manner are thieves and robbers. If you have eternity to pursue, I would beg you not to put your spiritual life nor those of your household under the cover of such a pastor. You will be raped; you will be defrauded; and you would be lucky to come out of such organizations alive. Such organizations that such men oversee are not Christian; they are den of thieves. Having made this point clear, I will nonetheless proceed to make an advocacy for good remuneration for pastors.
Before we can even talk of the pastor’s pay, we want to talk of the church’s finances. A church should have two kinds of leadership: a spiritual leadership and a managerial leadership. I suspect that the ministry of deacons in the Bible in the first century churches was its managerial leadership. Today, however, people choose to rather have a church board that has a member of the church as its chairman. The spiritual leadership on the other hand consist of the pastor leading other ministers to oversee the spiritual life of the church. The managerial leadership is the ministry of deacons or those of the chairman leading other members of the church. A situation where the pastor is also the overall chairman of the church is not ideal. Churches must mature to a point where members of the church can handle the administration of the church.
It is the administrative arm of the church that regulates the church’s finances. They are the ones that should be signatory to the church’s account and they are the ones that should pay the pastor his salary. This administrative arm of the church are the ones that should be able to regulate the church’s finances. Churches should not run mainly on member’s giving. The reason is because most of the time, members are developing spiritually to the point of understanding that their giving should be part of church life. And no one has the right to breath down the neck of another, demanding for monies in form of tithes and offering. People should be freely motivated to give. And the best way to get people to give is for the leadership, both spiritual and managerial, to lead by example. So the biggest donors to church finances should be the leaders. Then the leaders must be able to find other Christian organizations that believe in the missions to support what they do. It is only after this is done that people can be enjoined to give.
If by God’s grace a church is able to overcome the laborious process of setting a financially viable chest, the next step they must take will be to agree on a proper remuneration for the pastor.
First, we must realize that it is to the congregation’s advantage that a pastor works full time in ministering to them. Where this is not possible, it should not be enforced. But a congregation that has a part-time pastor will suffer for it because his attention will be divided between his service to the church and whatever other business he does.
With a full time minister, the next thing the congregation wants to do is to agree on a “living wage” for that pastor. A pastor working full time will be giving himself to the study of the word of God to deliver both on Sunday and other service days, he would also be giving himself to prayer (Acts 6:4). Both of these ministries (word and prayers) are very important for a spiritually viable church. Besides this, there is the job of counseling church members, attending to ceremonies involving church people, witnessing to unbelievers in the society and setting out plans to help grow Christian witness in the community. Any congregation sustaining a pastor in full time ministry is adding to the spiritual vitality of their community and even to those of their unborn children.
The minimum wage for any pastor in Nigeria of today should be N150, 000 a month. Any congregation that cannot pay their pastor that amount has no business setting up a local church. They would do well to either close down or join forces with other congregations, so as to have at least one pastor in full time service; instead of, say, two. Pastors being paid as much as half a million in Nigeria is also not too much either, if the congregation can afford it. The important thing is that the man of God is delivering on what he is being paid to do. Maybe the reason church people are not too concerned with what their pastors are delivering to them is because many of them are not contributing to the finances of the church from which the pastor is paid. If they are doing this, all hands will be on deck to see that the pastor himself meets the high standard of ministry that is required of him.
Another reason why pastors should be well paid is because churches should be concerned with getting the best minds to Christian ministry. Gone are the days when those who go to seminary are those who could not enter university or could not get a job elsewhere. The ministry should be for the best minds. If the pay is good, the best minds would be attracted to it. Yes, the matter of sacrifice cannot be removed from a man’s calling. But the man who is called to ministry is already sacrificing on many fronts. If his remuneration is ok, sacrifice on other fronts would be a lot easier and lighter.
One of the things we should understand is that what we have as far as church gatherings in Nigeria is concerned is not the norm. We have way too many churches but because many of these churches are not even doing what they are called to do, the number of churches in this country, serving people in a biblical manner, is a lot lower. I am looking at a biblical church here and because there numbers are few, people who find them should be able to commit resources to them to make them thrive. We must be concerned about building ministries and churches that would last the time of evil in our days because the days will come when it might be impossible for our children to find living churches to go to. If we however make the sacrifice today to build good churches, through sacrificial giving, we can be sure there would be churches for our grandchildren to be discipled in when we are long gone from the scene.

Crime › Policemen Force Man To Withdraw N715,000 For Them, Threaten To Deal With Him by VanGun(op): 9:45am On Nov 20, 2019 |
Four policemen in Lagos have been accused of extorting one Kareem Damilari Jamiu of N715,000. Jamiu, who lives in Sagamu, Ogun State, was arrested on Monday by the policemen. The law enforcement officials, one of them identified only as Kelvin, were reported to have forced Jamiu to part with the money after arresting and accusing him of being a cultist and Internet fraudster (yahoo yahoo) . They took Jamiu to a school after the arrest was made instead of a police station. They threatened not to release him until he cooperated and bailed himself. The policemen initially demanded N105,000 as bail and after paying the requested sum, they demanded that they see his bank account balance, after which, they demanded more money. “They demanded for N105,000 as bail, which they collected. "The money was withdrawn at a filling station but they were not satisfied and they asked him to log into his mobile app for them to see his bank balance,” narrated Okechukwu Nwanguma, Executive Director of Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre, who was familiar with the matter. Nwanguma added that the officers upon seeing that he still had some money in his account, drove him to Ikeja, somewhere opposite the Police Headquarters where they forced him to release his ATM and to disclose his PIN to them and they used a POS to withdraw the additional sum of N610,000 from his account. Narrating his bitter ordeal, Jamiu said, "They saw that I had enough money in my account which doesn’t belong to me and they got mad at me and took me back to the POS and withdraw all the money. “I was shouting at them that the money was not for me, that the 105, 000 wass what I can afford. But they said if I should say anything they would beat me .“I did N200,000 transfer twice and they still took me to a POS to withdraw another one again, which makes it the total of 715,000." Bbeingefore releasing him, the police officers warned Jamiu not to report what happened to anybody or risk killed. Jamiu’s mother was also threatened by one of the police officers, vowing that Jamiu would be seriously dealt with except he leaves the shore of the country. RULAAC, a non-governmental human rights advocacy organization committed to promoting rule of law, law enforcement accountability, and transparent and responsible policing, has sent a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, calling for an investigation into the matter. Nwanguma said in his t thypreliminary investigation, he called one of the mobile numbers of one of the officers involved in the extortion. He said, “I called the number and the officer spoke to me admitting that he was in the team that came to arrest the young man but denied using his ATM to withdraw his money using a POZ. “Shortly after I spoke with the officer, the young man called me and reported that the officer called his mother and threatened to deal with her son for reporting them to a lawyer RULAAC urged the IGP to “order a prompt, impartial and exhaustive investigation to identify the officers responsible for these rogue activities akin to kidnapping, hostage taking and robbery”. He also demanded that a full refund of the money extorted from the victim and the officers are “subjected to appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with the Police Act and other relevant laws.” Source : http://saharareporters.com/2019/11/19/policemen-force-man-withdraw-n715000-them-threaten-deal-himcc; lalasticlala
