In as much as I would like to support this prescription. I think this prescription must be given with cautions. If what obtains in America and other places where spouses were privilege to claim alimony and share in the richer person's estate is allowed in Nigeria, you will find lots of one weeks old marriages. People will be getting into marriage for cash. And two, it will encourage divorce causing more havoc in this already complicated world. What we need now is a law that will make it more diffic
ult for spouses to think of divorce. It's destroyed so many kids, the world is heading towards a social disaster if the epidemic of divorce goes on unchecked. God bless Nigeria. Peace!

Romance / Re: 6 Things Women Notice In Men Right Away by vanstanzy(m): 8:36pm On Dec 25, 2013
freshchuks10: First impressions may be made in moments, but they predict the course your relationships follow. So if you know what exactly about you draws in the votes, you can perfect it -- and do better with the opposite sex. So what do women notice immediately?

According to Dr Gordon Patzer, author of Looks: Why They Matter More Than You Ever Imagined, and one of the world’s leading authorities on physical attractiveness, a lot of what women notice in the first few minutes is appearance-based. “A substantial portion of the six features of a man are apparent, in terms of height, weight and overall physical attractiveness,” he says. And when appearances don’t make the cut, the door slams shut on further interactions. Here’s a list of things to keep that door open.

1. Physical stature
Yep, you knew this already: size matters. Height and weight are right on top of the list of things women notice. “Too much or too little of either immediately classifies the man as unattractive to women, and closes the door before less physically obviously features (such as confidence) can be determined,” says Dr Patzer. Take heart though, the acceptable range is influenced by the woman's own height and weight.

2. Appearances and attractiveness
Yes, beauty is skin deep, but it’s going to get women to explore what lies beneath. Attractiveness does include what you were born with, but your genes alone can't scuttle your chances. What really counts is what you do with your hair, clothes, grooming and basic hygiene. If you can't make the effort, women certainly are not going to work hard to learn more about you!

3. Smile
Once women are done assessing your overall build, women will look at your smile. “The ability to smile, particularly within the first few minutes of meeting, sends a welcoming, non-hostile signal to women,” says Dr Patzer. There is one proviso though -- the smile must show off reasonably good-looking teeth. It's never too late to fix an appointment with the dentist!

4. Humour
Another reason to show off those pearly whites! Women like men who have the ability to laugh. Even better, make the woman laugh. That instantly nets you bonus points!

5. Confidence
Women find confident men attractive. According to Dr Sameer Malhotra, head of psychiatry and psychotherapy department at Fortis Hospital in New Delhi, within the first few minutes of meeting, women will not only suss out your level of confidence, they will also interpret the vibes you give out and how you think. “Women notice how clear or decisive you are and whether you approach things positively.” Just remember, cockiness and arrogance are not the same as confidence!

6. Conversation
Men have successfully given womankind the impression of being strong and silent. So women aren't expecting you to have mad talking skills. All you've got to do hold her attention. “We know (scientifically) that the more or longer that a woman gets to know a man, the more physically attractive he becomes in her mind,” says Dr Patzer. Women are looking for someone to keep up the conversation -- so forget the one-liners, just be yourself!

I greet and felicitate with you all as we celebrate Christmas once again. I join our Christian compatriots and all other Nigerians in giving thanks to God Almighty whose Grace and
Benevolence has helped our nation to overcome the many challenges it has had since we celebrated Christmas last year.

The annual commemoration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ is a most auspicious time for us, as individuals and as a nation, to rededicate ourselves to the virtues and ideals which the Messiah preached and exemplified during his earthly ministry.

Let us all therefore resolve this
Christmas to make the ideals of peace, harmony, tolerance, love and goodwill to all even more manifest in our interactions with others.

It remains my sincere belief that no height of human accomplishment is beyond us as a nation, if we can overcome our differences, such as they are, and forge a binding national consensus to put the progress and well-being of the country above all other considerations.

My administration will do all within its powers and abilities to ensure that when representatives of our people assemble for the forthcoming national conference next year, they will have every opportunity and encouragement to make very significant contributions towards forging the required consensus for sustained national peace, unity and
progress.

It is also my expectation that the national conference will contribute in no small measure towards the urgent resolution of contentious issues which currently hinder our progress as a
nation.

With God Almighty as our Guide,
Strength and Enabler, My
Administration will continue to
implement its Agenda for National
Transformation in furtherance of its avowed commitment to improving the living conditions of all Nigerians.

We will continue to count on the
prayers, support and cooperation of all patriotic Nigerians in the coming year as we consolidate and build on our achievements in several sectors including national security, power supply, communications, transportation, health and education.

As we commemorate the birth of the Prince of Peace, let us all strive to honour Him more by living our lives as He taught; by making personal sacrifices for the good of others, by showing greater love for others, by being fairer and more honest in our dealings with others, by being ever-willing to forgive those who offend us and by always extending goodwill towards others.

On behalf of myself, my family and the Federal Government, I wish you all very joyful Christmas celebrations, and a peaceful and prosperous 2014.

ade.akeem:
Sitting on a mattress, under a mango tree on the land that used to accommodate their house, Sunday Solomon, a teenager, watched over what the family could salvage. Clutching the remote control to their television set, he gazed at the rubbles of their demolished house with the hope that the hand of the clock could be turned back.

Sunday and his only sibling were obviously yet to come to terms with the reality that their house, which was demolished on December 16 for allegedly trespassing on police 975 plots (65 hectares) of land in Atinporome, Mowo Phase 11, Olohunda Local Council Development Area, LCDA, no longer exist.

The sibling while waiting for their parents who had gone out to look for money that will help them to either relocate to their home town or rent an apartment in a nearby community, ensured that their scattered property under the tree was safe.

“My name is Solomon Sunday and my parents aren’t at home. This is our demolished house.

“And please Sir you are not welcome here. Please leave and come back when my parent returns,” Sunday told Vanguard.

The Police, in its two-day demolition exercise removed over 1,000 structures erected on the 65 hectares of land, displacing over a thousand residents of the community.

As if they had premonition of what would befall them in future, many residents planted different trees in their compounds.

The trees, spared by the bulldozers, today provide shelter for many of the residents while others have turned their cars to temporary shelter.

The Sundays were not the only family using the trees in their old compound as their new shelter. Lying on his back, also on a mattress placed under a tree in his demolished home, 73-year-old George Egosoku, gazed at the mango tree probably brooding over what would have happened without it. After the demolition, George, a professional driver before age caught with him, now sit helplessly and closely with his son under the mango tree where they’ve being spending the night since last Monday.

He was short of words to describe what happened on that fateful day, which will forever remain in his memory, the day he lost his house, built at the twilight of his active driving career which spanned over 35 years.

Struggling to narrate his experience, George, who now engages in petty trading to sustain his family said: “I watched helplessly as the officers of the Nigeria Police, Area K command, pulled down my house and bulldozed my belongings.”

On Wednesday, after the police had completed the demolition, George said he borrowed a hammer, plough and other implements to remove some of the broken woods and irons from the rubbles with the hope to sell them to raise money for feeding and to rent a new apartment.

Victims of Police Demolition Spend Christmas Under Trees

“But the price they are willing to pay for these items is far too low compared to the cost price. For instance, I bought this quality iron door for over N10, 000 few years ago. But to my surprise, the Aboki’s (scavengers) decided to pay N1, 000 for it,” George said.

Speaking with gloomy eyes he lamented; “My problem now is how to raise substantial amount of money to relocate to my home town.

“This is my house. This is where I have been living for the past 15 years.

“My years of hard labour were demolished that Monday and since then, I have been sleeping under this mango tree despite the harsh harmattan. Also, mosquitoes don’t allow us have good sleep. I am not appealing to your emotion. But I believe you can see things yourself. At my age, I am dirty, no shelter but a mango tree.

“I am not blaming anyone for my plight but the government especially the Nigerian Police and the Lagos State Government whom we pay our land use charge to. The government cannot provide housing to the downtrodden rather they demolish what the citizens had built.”

The plight of this septuagenarian, Egosoku, and the teenager, Solomon are two out of the several pathetic stories of the displaced residents of Atinporome, Mowo Phase 11 community.

Elder David Hundenu, 80- year- old residents of the community, lamented; “At my age, where do I start? I cannot run around the way I was doing 40 years ago. This is where I have called home. This is where I hope to finally rest but with this, I am confused.”

Hundenu, who had lived in the community for 19 years said; “Since 1994, when I bought my land from the late Baale Hoodonu, there had never been any issue concerning the ownership of the land. The tussle over the land started in 2008 after the demise of Hoodonu. While he was alive, he told me that the entire land belonged to his family.”

Victims of Police Demolition Spend Christmas Under Trees

Another resident, Mr. Ahmed Alade who lost his home two years ago to the expansion of the Lagos- Badagry expressway phase one at Orile- Iganmu, struggled to compose himself.

And when the 73- year- old finally did, he said; “My house was demolished in Orile two years ago for the expansion of the Lagos- Badagry expressway to 10- lanes. I didn’t get any compensation for it. I ran here for shelter with my family. But the shelter has been demolished again. Where do they (government and police) want me to go?”

Chief Korede Mayegun, who lost a hotel, house and a parcel of land worth over N160 million to the demolition, said; “when I heard the news, I went into coma. In fact I have been shuttling between hospital and home since last Monday. But my happiness is that I am alive again. I was unable to remove anything from my hotel.

“I believe that my property will not go like that. Our case is still in court and the date for another hearing is January 15th, 2014. We are ready to challenge them in court.”

Politics / Jonathan Wants To Kill Me – Amaechi by vanstanzy(m): 10:41pm On Dec 24, 2013
Rotimi Amaechi, Governor of Rivers State has claimed that he is one of the persons on the lists of 1,000 politicians that President Goodluck Jonathan is targeting to kill, as alleged in a letter by a former Nigerian president to Jonathan.
Citing a letter by a former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, alleging that President, Goodluck Jonathan, has hired snipers for targeted politicians, Ameachi said that President Jonathan’s response to the letter demanding that Obasanjo should provide the list of politicians targeted was not necessary as he was the first on the list.
“I am number on the list,” he said. “They want to kill me but they have no God. The God we worship will do what? he asked. “Kill them,” the crowd responded.

DonColz1: The Presidency will next year spend N34.5m on two wild animals for the State House Zoo and car trackers for presidential ground fleet as well as utility vehicles.
Out of the sum, N14.5m was set aside in the 2014 budget as the cost of the two animals whose names were not given and N20m for the trackers.
Extra N2m is expected to be expended on two fleet tracking base stations.
These are contained in the details of the Appropriation bill presented by President Goodluck Jonathan through the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to the National Assembly last week.
Also contained in the plan is the sum of N50m for the improvement of electrical installations inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Apart from the amount earmarked for the animals, N8m is budgeted for the upgrading and maintenance of the State House zoo. The renovation of the horses’ stables/paddock for the zoo will gulp N15m.
About N5m will also be spent on the purchase of wildlife capture equipment.
The N50m was appropriated at a time work is already ongoing on new N2.2bn banquet hall approved for the Villa by the Federal Executive Council in November 2012.
The electrification project was however marked “ongoing” in the budget details to give an indication that work had already started and would be completed under the new budget.
Projects that will be carried out in the State House Medical Centre in the new year include the building and installation of oxygen/other gases generating plant at N70m; construction of VIP Wing -N1.3bn; completion of extension of Dental Wing, N50m; construction of central sterilising building,N50m and the provision of MRI building and mortuary conversion at the cost of N17.5m.
An X-ray machine will be purchased at a cost of N35m; mammography machine, N60m; embalming machine, N1.65m and hydraulic post-mortem table,N4m.
The purchase of sports kits for the State House Sports Club will gulp N4. 2m.
The remodeling of the new Vice-President’s Guest House at 1, Yakubu Gowon, Crescent, Asokoro will gulp N215m; completion and rehabilitation of security quarters at Mpape Artillery and Asokoro, N30m; rehabilitation of Presidential/ministerial chalet at Airport, Abuja, N10m; and the rehabilitation of medical centre’s service quarters, N50m.

danmyboy: Divorce isn't worth celebrating no doubt and the reason for the increase in its rate of late is the pressure from the society on people to get married whether or not the person is the right person or otherwise. Forcing people to marry against their sexuality is also why marriages fail as the party may not come to terms with his/her new life.

Well said. But u may also care to know that most of these divorcees were not forced, they jumped into it for selfish gains.
