Crime / Judge Killed Over Divorce Plan by vanstanzy(m): 4:10am On Nov 10, 2013
By Jenna Etheridge

An angry and excitable Thandi Maqubela killed her husband Patrick after he made it clear he wanted a divorce, the Western Cape High Court ruled on Thursday.

Judge John Murphy found her guilty of the acting judge's death in Cape Town on June 5, 2009, despite not having conclusive medical evidence pinpointing a cause.
“At best there exists a mere possibility that the deceased was suffocated after being subdued or restrained by undetectable means, chemical or physical,” Murphy said.
“But even here we are in danger of drifting into the realm of speculation.”
Proof of the exact means of death was not, however, a prerequisite for conviction. Murphy said death from natural causes or suicide was excluded primarily by Thandi Maqubela's conduct, a plethora of lies and her persistence in “irrational subterfuge” which was wholly incompatible with an innocent person.
She was found to have told no less than 30 to 40 lies both in and out of court.
The court found that Patrick Maqubela's serial adultery had brought the relationship to an explosive point in 2009. He was in a distressed state and confided to others the day before he was killed, on June 4, 2009, that he wanted to divorce his wife.
She was also found guilty of forging the will of her husband and committing fraud by causing potential prejudice to his estate. Murphy said it was unlikely Patrick Maqubela would have left almost his entire estate to his wife, and disinherited some of his children, when considering the state of his marriage.
“The inescapable conclusion is that exhibit D (the alleged will) was not drafted by a lawyer,” Murphy said.
Maqubela would remain in custody until her sentencing on November 20.

Education / Government Procures Furniture For Selected Universities, Colleges by vanstanzy(m): 3:59am On Nov 10, 2013
Great! In a show of purposeful leadership, the Ghanaian Government has yet again demonstrated its dedication to securing the future of her future leaders. So says a news from Ghana, our next door neighbour. Read,

Government has procured 16,000 pieces of furniture for distribution to selected universities and colleges throughout Ghana, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Education, said on Thursday.
The furniture cost GHc3.2 million and it is in fulfillment of government’s promise made to universities and other tertiary institutions to increase admissions for this academic year.
Mr. Ablakwa said the Ministry had received requests for furniture and other equipment including computers and teaching and learning materials and it was determined to provide those needs to enhance quality teaching and learning
Mr Ablakwa said this when he presented 5,000 pieces of furniture to the University of Education, Winneba, on Wednesday.
He said the government had also provided seven million Ghana Cedis to universities and other tertiary institutions to complete projects that were 80 per cent uncompleted to enable them to increase admissions.
“This positive action on the part of government is to ensure that many students get admission into the universities and other tertiary institutions and not to stay at home idling, Mr. Ablakwa said.
“The positive response from the universities and tertiary institutions is a remarkable achievement for Ghana”.

Sports / Congratulations Nigerians! Congratulation Golden Eaglets!! by vanstanzy(m): 3:44am On Nov 10, 2013
The Nigerian Golden Eaglets once again set Nigeria on the world soccer map for the fourth time by winning the prestigious U-17 World cup trophy.
This is most certainly good times for Nigerian Football, because during the nations cup in February this year Nigerian Super Eagles did the nation proud by winning the trophy for the third time and just November another trophy is been added to the Nations trophy room. This does not go without saying that the U-17 boys did marvelously well. Playing to the gallery at all times, not being selfish with the ball, playing with so much amazing confidence and most of all, playing as a team. But of course the trophy itself will not be complete without recounting the road to it.
Firstly it was the defending champions, Mexico who were given a bitter pill of defeat, 6-1 the match ended in. Secondly, Sweden, the Golden Eaglets got into that match with over-confidence and almost paid for it when the Swedes quickly hammered in two goals in the early minutes of the game, but for bravery on our side the Golden Eaglets bounced back and snatched a narrow draw ending 3-3. Phew! That was indeed close. Thirdly, Iraq felt our wrath and followed closely by their brother, Iran, who as well couldn’t escape. Uruguay was a sweet revenge; hammering them 2-0 was a delight. Followed by the Swedes who almost gave us heart attack in the preliminaries, they were wounded in battle 3-0 this time and finally, after scaling the Swedes we had to face our first “love”, the Mexicans, who I thought were really going to give the Golden Eaglets a very tough time but surprisingly we played them hands down beating them 3-0, I still didn’t see that toughness (or maybe I missed it).
We can only thank God that the Golden Eaglets scaled past the finals to the trophy, (though the match had some really unfair judgments in it), but thank God we scaled through. I just hope and pray that those boys will be groomed together to senior teams and they won’t let pride destroy their footballing career. Below is a table of U-17 winners since the inception of the tournament, Enjoy!

Isn't it rather ironic that African countries keep winning these youth competitions over and over again and yet have never been able to replicate these victories at the senior level? Same reason why these players fizzle into obscurity shortly after winning these competitions. Its cos they're old! Let's not all forget what Partizan belgrade said about Taribo west's age. The main reason for these youth competitions is to raise and identify future talent and not the trophies. Its a concept Africans are yet to understand. So while the rest of the world continues using these competitions to build future teams that will be successful later on, we can continue winning them with old men that will surely fizzle out in a few years.

Bros, not only u. I have faced this kinda sh!7 in the hands of women. Women are naturally ungrateful, but can learn generousity like an apprentice learns a new trade. Its everywhere. To them (women) getting whatever they get from u, a man, is their right, so no need thanking u. Even if God had nothing to give women, do u think they will flock to him asking him for everything?
Guy, i have for long decided in my heart that its better to help my fellow man than to help a woman. Not that i don't get out of my way to help, but i would rather do it for a man that will appreciate the assistance than for a woman that will insult you on top of it.
When i help a woman, i don't even bother to stay back and hear "Thank you" from her, cos most times it doesn't come. I take it that God has seen the help and that's ok for me.
But this is for our women, u can still learn how to be appreciative. Life is a learning phase!

Anambra State University in Uli has been renamed after the Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in celebration of his 80th posthumous birthday.

The Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, announced the renaming in a live broadcast on the television station of the Anambra Broadcasting Service.

He reiterated the commitment of his administration to restoring standards which demand a simultaneous transformation of all sectors and the recognition of role models.

He urged the people of Anambra State to continue to seek ways of making the state a great one.

Late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was a Nigerian military officer and politician. He served as the Military Governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria in 1966.

He was the leader of the unsuccessful breakaway Republic of Biafra from 1967 to 1970 and a Nigerian politician from 1983 until he died on November 26, 2011, aged 78.

Autos / Mercedes-benz To Launch The C-class Celebratory Edition On 12th by vanstanzy(m): 9:47am On Nov 04, 2013
Celebrating the product 10 million vehicle mark on the C-Class, Mercedes-Benz India will introduce the C-Class Celebratory Edition. This version of the C-Class will mean that all the new sedans will come with the Edition C badging.

It is reported that the C-Class will still have the same engines on offer with the C200 CGI, C220 CDI and C250 CDI. The variants are also expected to remain the same. Its Celebratory Edition will get some cosmetic upgrades like a new revised front grille and some changes inside as well. It could get a push start and stop button inside of the regular key insert and the wooden finish trim will change as well. Also do expect the alloys to be different on the C-Class and that is about it. The specifications are likely to remain the same, as the current C-Class has good enough bells and whistles and even the engine are good in performance. The C-Class had received a major upgrade in 2011, when it got the new front grille, new headlamps and a redesigned instrument panel. The panorama sunroof also made its entry with this new C-Class.

More troubles are indeed facing both the aviation ministry and its embattled Minister, Ms Stella Oduah. This comes on the heels as the Lagos State Government denies any involvement in the ordering of bulletproof vehicles, BMW 7 series cars, during the 18th National Sports Festival, hosted by the State. It maintained that the state only requested for and got from Coscharis regular saloon cars, four wheel drive vehicles and buses in its capacity as official vehicle providers for the Sports Festival.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Mr. Enitan Oshodi, said that following the offer of sponsorship of and provision of vehicles for the Festival by Coscharis Nigeria Limited, the state government duly made a request to President Goodluck Jonathan for waiver of destination inspection charges and duty exemptions on 300 vehicles which were to be used for the festival. According to the statement, which sought to set straight ‘information making the rounds with regards to the vehicles requested from and supplied by Coscharis Nigeria Limited for use at the immediate past 18th National Sports Festival hosted by the Lagos State from November 27 to December 9, 2012’: "The request was duly granted by the President leading to the issuance of a Certificate of Waiver in respect of the duty payable on the importation of the cars, by Coscharis Nigeria Limited.

Mr Oshodi added that “The Lagos State Government would therefore like to put it on record that documents exist to show the vehicles which were supplied and used during the 18th NSF.

I don't know...Ok, i guess.
Career / How To Deal With A Bullying Boss by vanstanzy(m): 6:58pm On Nov 01, 2013
Assuming you’re dealing with a bully of the “manageable variety”–with episodic flare-ups, versus a lawsuit-worthy bully–here’s how to manage up, according to Taylor and Teach:
v Intervene early. Pay close attention to early warning signs that your usually mild-mannered boss is about to morph into a bully, Taylor says. “If you know your boss resorts to bullying under stress, try to minimize the stress factors. Has he had a bad day? Postpone unnecessary meetings until the coast is clear. Was he pushed around by his boss, or by a client? When in doubt, if you notice a warning sign, get out of the way. Just as you shouldn’t stick your face near the snout of a snarling dog, you should remove yourself from the path of a manic bully until things cool off.”

v Set limits. Don’t be a martyr and work unreasonable hours or accept discourteous behavior. You won’t do yourself or your company any good, Taylor says. “Being able to say ‘no’ can be quite liberating, and might even earn you some respect from your bully boss.”
v Speak to your co-workers. Is your boss only bullying you or do they do it to all of their employees? If you’re the only one being bullied, is it because you’re not doing your job properly or is it something personal? It may be simply that your boss doesn’t like you. Ask your co-workers for advice on how to handle the situation, Teach suggests.
v Use positive reinforcement. When your bullying boss treats you with respect, thank her for her kindness, Taylor says. “Tell her how she inspires you to work hard whenever she’s positive and polite.” Become a role model of good citizenship yourself, displaying unwavering courtesy to your boss. If you have to, overdo it to send the message. “Never fight fire with fire; don’t act like a bully in response to bullying.”
v Be a good role model. Setting a good example of the demeanor you want your boss to emulate can help. “Praising another’s work, giving credit and remaining calm when your boss can’t, will help your boss better see the light,” Taylor says.
v Speak to your Human Resources department. When all else fails, speak to your HR department, Teach says. “Keep in mind that while they will listen to you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will take action or will be on your side. If your boss gets results, HR may overlook their bullying tactics. I’ve personally seen an example of several people leaving a department over time because of a bullying supervisor until that supervisor was finally fired. Where was HR during this mass exodus? I do believe that HR departments need to be much more proactive in preventing workplace bullying.”
v If your boss is abusive, garner support. If your boss truly is out-of-control, bordering on abusive, seek assistance from coworkers, other managers and/or outside council. “You need support through this process,” Taylor explains. “If confronting your bully boss directly is not an option, go to a higher-level manager or a human resources manager and present your concerns. Be honest, and be prepared to give examples of the abusive, bullying behavior. It usually takes more than one person to topple a bully but, with outside support, you have a chance.” If all else fails and the job is simply untenable, then it’s time to visit your favorite job board and start networking.
Namie says confronting the boss is “rarely effective and ill-advised.” In early 2012, WBI asked 1,598 individuals who were personally familiar with workplace bullying what strategies they adopted to get their bullying to stop, and whether those actions were effective. Here’s what they said:
1. About 38% of bullied employees essentially did nothing. In other words, he or she let time pass, hoping matters would improve on their own. Effectiveness of doing nothing: 3.25%
2. About 70% of employees directly confronted the perpetrator. Effectiveness of confronting: 3.57%
3. About 71% of bullied employees asked the perpetrator’s boss to intervene and stop it. Effectiveness of seeking support from bully’s boss: 3.26%
4. About 74% told senior management/owner, expecting support.
Effectiveness of seeking support from senior management/owners: 3.69%
5. About 60% of those in unions asked their union to intervene and stop it.
Effectiveness: 8.84%
6. About 43% of employees filed a formal complaint with HR alleging a policy violation. Effectiveness of telling HR: 4.7%
7. About 19% filed a complaint with an external state or federal agency. Effectiveness of filing a complaint with EEOC, etc.: 11.9%
8. About 34% of bullied workers tried to find an attorney to file a lawsuit.
Effectiveness of finding an attorney: 11.2%
9. About 9%, or 379 respondents, did file a lawsuit. Effectiveness of filing a lawsuit: 16.4%
“Employers are responsible for all work conditions and the assignment of workers to supervisors,” Namie says. “So, employers can stop workplace bullying if they wanted to. No laws yet compel action or policies, so all employer actions would be voluntary.” About 68% of executives think workplace bullying is a serious problem—but few organizations (5.5%) are doing anything about it.
The bottom line is that if you’re being bullied at work, and your employer isn’t doing anything about it, “you owe it to yourself to do what you can to try and stop it,” Teach adds. “If you fail, you should give yourself credit for at least trying to improve the situation. At that point, you have the choice to stay or leave. You should make the decision that’s best for you.”
Taylor agrees. She says “your best option is to decide whether you want to manage up with your bully boss, or bow out.” What is your tolerance level, and what are the pros and cons of the job overall? “You must weigh the level of discomfort with your ability to be assertive, and also take a hard look at the big picture.”

Politics / Jonathan's Sudden Search For Christ by vanstanzy(m): 6:47pm On Nov 01, 2013
As a kid growing up and the first issue, my mother always gave me a very important advice, she always said, "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown!". I grew with that firmly fixed in my heart, and today i must admit it has made me a better person and leader. If GEJ for some reason is in a serious search for Christ, it is perfectly understandable, because to lead a country like Nigeria is "no walk in the park." For me i even think its easier leading the Americans than Nigerians that are majorly so uncooperative, unlike the Americans.

We have read in the Holy Book about weaklings defeating the mighty, the great kingdoms built on God’s laws and principles surviving at the times of hardships such as flood, drought and pestilence and we have heard and seen healings and miraculous deeds by the ordained men of God globally. These signs are true enough for every person and nation to want to embark on a journey, no matter the distance and kilometer, in search for God as our incumbent President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has done.
The Nigerian President remains a man after God’s own heart! He is still a man revered by me for his leadership style and intelligence which have projected Nigeria as a country whose governance style is worth emulating by other countries of the world!
President Jonathan has since his assumption of office as the Vice President to the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua of blessed memory and later, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2011, been a role model to someone like me and these breakthroughs were indications that everyone has the potential to become what they desire to become in life if they can hang onto God as our President is doing right now!
President Jonathan is today the number one citizen and this has only been through God and God alone. So, why would President Jonathan not go to, Jerusalem, Israel?
Jerusalem is the world’s most holy land for the Christians, just as Mecca is for the Muslims. Jerusalem is a strong city in Israel and has hardly been defeated by other countries in war for many centuries according to History. God is believed to reside in Jerusalem and willing to answer anybody that visits and seeks His help either in times of trials and challenges. It must have been this God that our well-meaning President has gone to seek in order to deliver Nigeria from drowning: at least during his regime or tenure. But not withstanding, some people will definitely start asking, why the President decide to visit Jerusalem for Prayer at this time? Is it truly for the sake of delivering Nigeria of all its challenges or for the fulfillment of a personal goal or ambition?
Yes, the problems faced by Nigeria did not just begin; they had been with the country for several decades and have outlived both the military and civilian regimes the country had experienced since independence in 1960. The plights of Nigeria were glaring during the time President Jonathan was Vice to late President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua and after the death of Yar’ Adua in May, 2010, and Jonathan became interim President of the country, these problems were still with us and things were even getting worse, with no effort made to prevent the country from sinking!
In 2011, the election that confirmed President Jonathan as a full President of Nigeria was conducted and the consequence of this victory was the incessant shedding of blood; the massive killing of the serving innocent youth corps members in the Northern part of the country. Not long after this subsided, the country began to experience on a very large scale the incessant killing of worshippers including the Christmas Day and the setting of fires on properties which people had toiled for decades to acquire by the mysterious insurgency- Boko Haram- in the Northern part of the country.
In addition, while these incidences that have made the world to perceive Nigeria as an abode for terrorists continued, the killing of four promising young men by the people of Aluu community in River State, Port Harcourt, was staged: these young men were set on fire and burnt to ashes by fellow Nigerians and we hear nothing about the murderers. About months after that, a village called Baga, Borno State, was burnt to ashes (about 2000 houses were destroyed) and close to 187 people were killed during the clash between the President’s deployed Joint Task Force and the Boko Haram insurgency. And between 2011 and 2013, there had been series of protests over price increment or subsidy removal and currently Nigerian Universities have been shut down indefinitely for over four months now because of the Federal Government’s alleged refusal to pay the agreed salaries of the Universities lecturers. The rate of youth’s unemployment has increased geometrically from what it was and many more precarious events had hit the country under the eye of our President.
So i wouldn't dear question a man saddled with all these predicaments the reason for seeking God, but i'll just hope he seeks God for the right reasons, else he will be burned, that's all.

Politics / Russia's Gift To G20 Delegates Found To Include "Trojan Horse" Spy Devices by vanstanzy(m): 6:35pm On Nov 01, 2013
Thanks to Edward Snowden and his leaks of NSA secrets, much of the world has been focused on the United States' spying activities. But as it turns out, the U.S. isn't the only superpower seeking to sniff out state secrets of its allies and enemies. At the G20 conference held in St. Petersburg, Russia, last month where President Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin appeared to patch up their differences, Russian operatives gave goodie bags to world powers at the summit which included USB drives and phone charges that were secretly "Trojan Horses" designed to download information and send it back to Russia.
The Russian spy ploy was first reported on Tuesday by Italian media. Apparently, European Union President Herman Van Rompuy was the first to become suspicious of the gifts, which sported the red-and-blue "Russia G20" logo, and asked technical experts in Belgium and Germany to look into them.
German intelligence sources determined that the three-pronged mobile phone charges were able to tap into e-mails, text messages and phone calls, and just like the USB thumb drives Russia handed out, they were a "poisoned gift" from Putin.
A warning has since supposedly been sent out to all G-20 members about the dangerous devices, which Italian media says went out to all "delegates" at the September 5-6 gathering. It was not clear if any world leaders were given the gifts directly.
