Macelliot: People kept saying that, 'Catholics are worshipping Virgin Mary,' but I wants to prove them wrong. Great teaching. I love the explanation. Even some Catholics are confused as to whether Mary is being worshipped or Honoured. This couldn't have come at a right time. But bro u for at least proof read this article to correct some of the grammar. All the same, THUMBS UP! |

Education / Very Weird Way Of Making Youngsters Aware Of Sexual Violence!!! by vanstanzy(m): 1:49am On Nov 28, 2013 |
The Department of Basic Education has been forced to do an egg dance in its attempts to defend a shocking and hopelessly inappropriate matric exam drama question that asks pupils how they would direct a scene depicting the rape of an infant. The question, based on an extract from the play Tshepang, inspired by the real-life rape of a nine-month-old baby in 2001, drew blanket condemnation from anti-rape activists, educationists, parents and from many of the pupils themselves. The department responded by saying that ''academic freedom'' prevailed in South Africa, that the question was ''well within the prescripts of the curriculum'' and that ''young adults'' should be aware of what is one of the country's biggest social problems. Just for good measure, officials added that, if there were sufficient evidence that exam candidates had been adversely affected by the question, it would not count for marks. Our rape statistics are appalling - 65000 sexual crimes, many of them involving children, were recorded last year. But surely there are better ways to educate pupils about this terrible, violent crime than by asking them to imagine and describe the act. Some of the children might themselves have been victims of a sexual predator and tackling the question would have been terribly traumatic for them. The sensitive, complex nature of the question makes it more appropriate for a university drama class, and even then students would have to be guided in tackling it. By all means, foster debate among pupils about burning social issues - but when dealing with crimes of despicable violence, surely the rule of thumb for educators should be to err on the side of caution. Business / Re: LASG Floats N87.5bn Bond To Finance Infrastructural Projects by vanstanzy(m): 1:40am On Nov 28, 2013 |

Business / LASG Floats N87.5bn Bond To Finance Infrastructural Projects by vanstanzy(m): 1:39am On Nov 28, 2013 |
THE Lagos State Government on Wednesday issued a bond to raise N87.5billion from the capital market to fund key on-going infrastructural projects in the state. The bond was approved in Ikeja at a Completion Meeting between officials of the state government and major issuing houses led by Chapel Hill Denham. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bond with a fixed interest rate of 13.5 per cent completes the state’s N275 billion debt issuance programme launched six years ago. The government had in 2012 raised N80 billion through bonds out of the final tranche of N167.5 billion of the programme, which ends in 2020. Governor Babatunde Fashola said at the meeting that the government continuously explored the option in order to meet its obligations to residents. According to him, the need to make life more meaningful for the people through delivery of life-impacting projects necessitates the step. “We are approaching the market to fund some ongoing projects to which we are committed. “Some of these projects include Okokomaiko to Marina Light Rail Project; 70 million gallon p/d Adiyan Waters Works and expansion of Lagos-Badagry Expressway from four lanes to 10 lanes. “The others are: Apapa CBD project; Mushin Isolo Road; Isolo-Isheri Ijegun Link bridge; Ayinke House, Specialist Maternity and Gynecological Centre; Atlantic Shoreline protection programme for our citizens. “These are some of the projects which we intend to put the money to use. All of them have started, and I must emphasise that we are committed to their completion,” he said. The governor expressed the optimism that the bond would be well subscribed, hinging his optimism on the success of the state’s previous bonds. Fashola thanked investors for their consistent confidence in the state, saying their investments had helped to make the state better. He urged other states to draw courage from the state’s success story in bond issuance to explore debt financing to accelerate development. The government urged residents to pay their taxes promptly, saying doing so would strengthen the capacity of government to deliver more development. NAN further reports that members of the state executive council and top executives of financial institutions were among those who attended the meeting. Politics / Jonathan, Mark, Soyinka, Others For Benin Monarch’s Book Presentation by vanstanzy(m): 1:31am On Nov 28, 2013 |
OBA of Benin, Oba Erediauwa would today play host to President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President, David Mark, former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon and other prominent Nigerians at the public presentation of a compendium of his speeches and writings titled “Cradle of Ideas”. Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, who wrote the forward to the book, will also present the book, according to Professor Greg Iduorobo Akenzua, the monarch’s younger brother. Also expected at the event is Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal while Governor Adams Oshiomhole is the Chief Host. In the book, edited by Dr. Osarhiemen Benson Osadolor of the University of Benin, the royal father attempted to demonstrate how the constitution of knowledge emerges as ideas in separate spheres of intellectual activities and influences through the construction and definition of meaning. Osadolor told The Guardian yesterday that Oba Erediauwa had worked tirelessly at exploring the revealing viewpoint of his voice of discourse to develop his ideas in such a remarkably logical and thoughtful approach in grasping the changes in Nigeria in its historical movements. This is entirely wrong. Your friend simply wants to cause crisis in your marriage and maybe he doesn't know it. Doesn't he have female friends who can house his sisters? 1 Like |

Family / Help!!! My Friend Wants Me To House His Sisters by vanstanzy(m): 8:29pm On Nov 27, 2013 |
Please I need advice and quick. My predicament goes like this, I am a married man living far away in Benin from his wife and family. I work in Benin and my wife works in Lagos. I stay alone and my friend and colleague, who has been housing me for some time until I got my place, wants me to house his two matured and single sisters. The reasons are, One, because he intends bringing a wife into his house and by right it is not proper for a newly married man to have his sisters living with him. Two, because he doesn't have enough cash to pay for a house and also cater for his wedding plans. He has approached me on this issue and I have refused to give him a clear answer yet, though I know that what he wants from me is wrong. Don’t get me wrong, I am really touched that he trusts me this much with his beautiful sisters, but this trust is far misplaced.
