I swear I can laugh...I would be giving I my final reply...can you imagine he said once you have your o'level you are on your way to school . He was trying to make pedigree look like an actual admission...just imagine
And not only that. you can even do your diploma and start a direct degree. for example Five years program in science lab tech in EkSU does not require jamb . once you have your wassce , all others are secondary.

why are u even disturbing urself with vaxx over this admission matter?

Someone that said departmental cut-off mark is based on quota system.

U sef.
Yes and what is wrong in that? courses that are regulated are based on quota system. law and medicine for example.

Yes you were right when you said pedigree form are sold at different date by schools but you were quick to forget that schools will first sell pedigree forms before they even commence post utme form sales..pedigree admission list always come out before jambite admission list sometime both list clashes and come out and the same time. Most unis in Nigeria most especially govt unis will start issuing admission around November some are so slow that they might even release first list late December/early January (e.g OAU, yabatech)and no student will want to start a pedigree program when he still has hope that he/she might be admitted into his preferred university.

Now you talked about private uni. Yes you were also right to say they give admission without picking them but that does not happen often....Most times this admission are issued when you are awaiting your admission which sometimes might be an indicator that you will not be given admission that year as it is widely believed the school most have placed your in jamb market and voila a private unis came and advertised themselves to you...most time people that receives this message from this private uni end up getting admitted that same year..Now bottomline is no candidate will want to ditch his/her preferred school of choice for a private uni even though it is offered on a platter of gold except such candidate is very sure he or she will not be getting admitted that year due to low aggregate. People are tempted to wait and oftentimes end up disappointed. People wait of different reason

1): That you got a message from a private uni offering you admission does not mean you've lost your admission for that year, it is simply a business strategy from this private unis looking for customers
2): there is still room to change your course if you could'nt meet up with your departmental cutoff
3): sometimes the school end up giving you another course as compensation for your high score even without obtaining change of course form(UI will never do this, never)

And once again I repeat you can clear your o'level with A1 VERTICAL. o'level is just a basic requirements, if you don't have a complete o'level there is no need to even obtain your post utme form just start waiting another year or better hurry and obtain GCE. Form and pray the school releases her admission list late else forget it na till next year ooooo grin grin
For you to be admitted you must pass your o'level with a minimum of 5 o'level credit, you must make sure that when you jamb score and post utme scores are added your aggregate must hit or surpass your departmental cut off that way you can be sure of getting admitted.

Any Nigeria that comes to school in Ghana is simply an OLODO, . They are just bunch of lazy teenagers who could not study hard to get into the unis but filled their heads with teenage love grin grin grin
You write so much yet echoing and validating what i said. Anyway let me repeat it again . so echo it back to me.

Nigeria admission system is the most flexible. infact any one can get admitted.

1 once you have your o level ( which allow two sittings)you are good to go. Jamb and post utme are basically ranking criteria not a certified qualification. you can start a diploma , a degree course and pre remidial program with your wassce alone in Nigeria. ask me how?

2 pre remedial and pre degree form are out based on school different calender. but the bottom line, they are basically before jamb so that the student can be prepared for coming jamb exams. matriculation number is the most needed. 140 is the cut off point by the law.

3 for any serious student in nigeria, jamb and post utme is secondary. the cut of point is simply 140 which over 70 percent of those who sat for jamb pass. so it is olodo who failed to secured admission in Nigeria( it is just too easy getting admission in Nigeria)and such a candidate can't excell anywhere .

the rest are inconsequential. I have proven to you admission is more rigourous in Ghana than nigeria for Ghanaian student. in Ghana, student are selected based on aggregate of your wassce grade. A1 represent 1 while C6 represent 6. and not more than 8 subject. legon placed its benchmark on 24 aggregate ( so do your calculation) . anything more than that is a failure even if you have C4 all thru. this exclude the compulsory maths, English and integrated science which must be pass at C6 or better. The benchmark become more rigorous for courses such as medicine and law which are normally placed at 11 or 9 depending on the number of candidate and availability of space.

But it is less flexible for foreign student because you are paying the hard currency( Dollars). most at times Nigerians schooling in Ghana can't meet up with the public uni requirement so they end up in private uni. public is more expensive and more rigourous .

author=samorobo post=82439220]

[quote]You can have your five o'level credits ,pass jamb, pass post utme and still not get admission if you don't meet up with your departmental cutoff mark.. as for Pedigee I have told you that by the time admission list would be out sales of pedigree form would have rounded up only thing that would be left is pedigree admission list which would still come out the same time with the normal jambite admission list(Nov,Dec,Jan[/quote)
Departmental cut of point is based on many factors, space, availability, number of candidate and quota system. it changes, it is not static and the more room for expansion, the more candidate admitted( in some cases , it is regulated by law. law Department for instance. there is usually a prescribe cap by the goverment )The most important is your 5 credit pass even if it is based on aggregate 36. predigree form does not have a specific date as school are not mandated to sell out forms the same perioud, for example predegree in OAU starting time is totally diffrence from remedial program in ABU zaria . it is left for the candidate to be proactive by listening to news and reading paper.

And as for private uni it is not even possible because you only have one shot and once you've used your jamb registration number to register for a school and sit for her exam the die has been cast, there is no turning back al..your fate that year depends on whether you will be admitted into the uni you picked which still revolves round your effort(you cannot change to private uni because you were not admitted.jamb will not allow it even if the school will, that is the reason why jamb Caps(central admission processing system) exist) plus private uni admission always comes up about three months before the govt uni admission process
You clearly show your ignorance here. private uni in nigeria do give provisional admission even without applying for them. for example, oduduwa university are likely to give oau candidate admission if the student is yet to get admission from oau ( This mainly occur when a candidate pass UTME and has good wassce. so far you meet up with the basic requirement. the school had agreement with jamb,They automate admission from their end. and that is why Some Nigerians student get admission into private uni without choosing them.( they look at the catchment area before doing this). you may not even write post UTME in some cases.

You don't need to choose private uni before getting admission in the jamb. let me give you example for one. all what you need is simply a change of institution form.

To cut this long story short. If you don't meet your departmental cutoff you won't be admitted and then people are forced to look for other options rather than wait another year..
And to also enlight you more. Your 400/ 400 in your jamb and 100 percent in your post utme is useless without your Five credit. but your Five credit on its own is enough certification to get you admission anywhere ( You can start a pre degree or pre remedial in
Nigeria public uni ). some private uni in nigeria only need you to pass the required 140/ 400 mark in your jamb and once that is achieved you get admission.... but no school will admit you without your Five credit even if you are on the top chart of your jamb score.

Just wondering.
The use of that word is just crazy and alarming . it is rested on pride. Nigerians are hard-working no doubt, so are the citizens of other nation. This what Nigeria ministry of education has to say about Ghana education system.

You accused me of lack of knowledge but you are obviously lacking one..see vaxx you can get A1 Parallel and pass jamb 400 but once you write UI post utme and your result has been accumulated and you happen to be 0.1 mark below your departmental cutoff not even up to 1 mark trust me you've automatically lost your admission. The general acceptable requirement for o'level in Nigeria is c6 in all core o'level subjects which is usually 5 in numbers(for a science student it will be maths, English, chemistry, physics, biology/Futher maths).now if you should have D7 in just one of those o'level courses then congratulations you've lost your admission, infact you don't need to wait for admission list to know that....Most schools will still give you grace if you didn't meet up with your departmental cutoff mark to obtain change of course form which will still be a 50/50 chance as it will become a survival of the fittest things(people who couldn't meet their cutoff from various department but had high aggregate will come and compete and they usually end up picking just a few, because that department just need few people to fill up since they've already given admission to those that originally picked that course and met it requirement)...now by the time all this is happening pedigree form would have finished selling as 90% of Nigerian schools will start selling their pedigree form from July and end sale in August whilst admission list would be fully out by December/january.so after all the hoping and waiting you will end up back home "UNI HOME" grin grin where you belong to start over again..Not all parent can bare this most especially rich kids parent. After telling all your mates that you child will be in school this year and all of a sudden you will start chewing words. The next option will always be Ghana, Togo, Benin BEcause they don't want their kids to be too far so they can monitor them(mostly does overprotective parent). Those that can handle it ship them to UK, US, Germany, Canada or even Africa SA & egypt
It still goes to show you know less of your argument. stop bringing faulty opinion to argument . There is diffrent between a centralised system and quota system . UI ranking criteria is simply diffrent from OAU. but in all they all follow centralized system which is basic requirement of having 5 credit in not less than two sittings regardless of your jamb score or post utme ( which are subject to periodic changes) once you have your basic requirement which can be limited to C6( aggregate 36 ) in two sittings . you are fit for any university in Nigeria. that is the central system.

Now the selection criteria, you seems not to understand. UTME / post UTME is not a certification examination but a ranking process as the qualification required to gain entrance into university anywhere in the world is 5 O’level credits which is a certified examination. So UI cut of point is simply a ranking criteria not admission process . this is due to quota system. UI has a limited number of student she can admit in a given year and she can't go beyond that and base on that she apply quota system . which is one of the ways she select the well ranked candidated among those who meet the basic qualification. The "" 5 credit""

There is a way your cousin can gain admission into UI without stress. but you will have to pay me for that. and the course will definitely not be medicine. i guaranty

The fact that you said the bolded shows you know longer know nigeria.i would have said it's because you've been away for a long time but know that's not the case.. medicine, law, engineering, pharmacy e.t.c has always been a hard course to get admitted into in Nigeria atleast for a very long time.. my cousin scored about 315 in jamb last year and sat for UI post utme ,and when his aggregate was released he was found to be 0.1 mark below his departmental cutoff mark being medicine and voila that's was how he lost that admission just because he was 0.1mark .he tried bribing his way in but UI prestige couldn't allow such..Now for a rich kid who just got out of highschool and must have tried getting admission let's say for a course like medicine and was declined such parent would start looking for the next possible option which is always Ghana as they won't have their child sit home for another year whilst his/her mate leaves him/her behind...at that point their parents are desperate and are willing to pay any amount so whey they if they are asked about their child the following year they would be proud to say he/she is in school rather than chewing words out of shame ..
You only demonsrate your lack of knowledge toward Nigeria education. Jamb is just a selection criteria not admission criteria( There is a diffrence between the two). if your cousin had 400/400 in her jamb score and did not perform well in her basic qualification which is waec or neco. she is ending no where. but if she perform quite well and reasonably sound in her wassce or neco .she may opt for pre - degree and premeridial program in her selected field that if she must attend public uni.

medicine , law, pharmacy and some few others are top rated course everywhere not only in Nigeria . this simply means there will be more student applying for this very discipline, therefore the requirement will be high but in Nigeria if you have your cash, You can easily by pass it by attending private uni. C6 all thru can study medicine or law in Nigeria private uni. it is impossible in Ghana ( That is aggregate 36 based on 9 subject ) infact legon will not even admit you for any program. it simply means you failed.

Stop deluding yourself. there is nothing worth attention in nigeria apart from over population. it is stupid looking for a quality degree when non exist. those who end up in Ghana are there for many reasons(which is not limited to easy admission access) education is so cheap in nigeria that anyone at all can get admission. if you doubt me, ask me how?

ofcource Nigeria will get easy admission, they are paying more ( hard currency ); and that is reasonable but most of them end up rusticated due to rigourous academic system . see, Nigerians are not only troopping into Ghana tertiary institute. they are also in basic high schools.

if Ghanaian with Ghana background must schooled abroad and it must be in Africa. ( it is either south Africa, Egypt and maybe religious reason. Algeria and morroco).

No right thinking individual will pick UI when legon is an option. medicine is not hard in Nigeria as you may try to paint it. (try admission at igbinedion university)if you have your cash.

so far webometric and Qs ranked legon ahead of any Nigeria uni is enough for them. that is a global recognised ranking . even in THE ranking ( golden age uni) legon is well ranked.
Education › Re: Comparing Graduate School In The USA and UK by vaxx: 10:38am On Sep 21, 2019
Passion2009:
I obtained my Bachelor's degree from a Nigerian university. Upon graduation, I proceeded to the U.S for my first Master's degree and later to the United Kingdom for my second Master's degree.

I have equally traveled across the world - I've had the honor to meet graduates from over 70 countries. Today, at a workshop in Canada - we discussed about graduate school opportunities all across the world and I've decided to share my thoughts with readers here on Nairaland. My opinions are drawn from my experience studying and living in both the United States and United Kingdom as an international student.

I will be writing about the Pros and Cons of obtaining a Master's degree in both the United States and the United Kingdom - the dream destinations for Nigerian students.

Graduate School in The United States of America

The United States is the most preferred destination for international students all across the world. They boast of the best and of course - the most expensive universities in the world. Among the top 20 Universities in the world, more than 10 are in the United States and among the top 200 universities in the world - at least 60 are in the United States as well. American universities are passionate about research, study, innovative ideas and critical thinking - especially if you attend a R1 university(e.g Harvard, Princeton, the University of Chicago, the University of Pittsburgh, CMU, etc) in the United States(Google the list of R1 universities). American universities have proven to be the epicentres of transformative discoveries and innovations in the past 50years and they still lead the world in the fourth industrial revolution.

PROS (Advantages of Schooling in the United States).

(1). YOU ARE MOST LIKELY A STRONGER CANDIDATE IN THE JOB MARKET DUE TO YOUR FLEXIBITY

For graduate students who are hardworking, talented and smart thinkers - American R1 universities provide you with a great opportunity to live your biggest dreams in different fields.
As a Master's student in the U.S, you can obtain a Major, a Minor and Certificates in different fields in the course of your two years of study. For instance, I have a mentee who bagged a Master of Public Policy from an American university and he was able to obtain a Major in Energy Policy, a Minor in Governance Development, a Certificate in Cyber Security and Law as well as another Certificate in Africana Studies. He amassed all of these qualifications in his two years of study in the United States. With these qualifications, he is flexible enough to apply to different jobs in different sectors and you can probably guess where he works now. It is also easier to do joint degrees as a grad student in American universities. In other words, you can be running a M.B.A/J.D program at the same time with your initial Master of Science in Psychology - you graduate with two top notch degrees that will give you a big advantage in the job market.
Although, it takes longer(2years) to bag a Master's degree in the U.S but it's mostly worth it for students who know their onions. More so, many grad school programs in the United States make it mandatory for you to go on internship abroad or within the U.S for about 3months. My mentee that I talked about earlier on had his internship in Vienna with one of the international organizations there - his entire internship expenses were fully funded by his American university. Opportunities like interning abroad as a grad student strengthen your profile and make you more formidable in the job market. The U.K grad schools largely do not give the room for this kind of flexibility offered by American universities.

2. THERE ARE MORE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
If you are a strong candidate applying to an American university, you are very likely to secure scholarships and fellowships that will help cover most(if not all) expenses of your grad school education. Schools in the U.K are not as generous as American schools when it comes to funding/scholarships. A very significant percentage of the grad students in American universities study on full-scholarships. You can Google and read about the KNIGHT HENNESSEY SCHOLARSHIP initiative for grad students at Stanford University - this is just one American university.

3. DIVERSE LEARNING COMMUNITY.

American universities attract the highest number of foreign students in the world. They are the first choice of most international students globally.

4. WORLD CLASS FACULTY AND TOP CLASS FACILITIES.

5. A HIGH CHANCE OF BEING RETAINED TO PURSUE THE AMERICAN DREAM.

Particularly for those who have made the best use of their two years.

•CONS( Disadvantages of Studying in the United States)•

1. IT IS SUPER EXPENSIVE.

American universities are by far the most expensive in the world. For most programs in US R1 Universities, your tuition/school fees alone will cost you around $40,000(roughly 15million naira/per year) a year as an international student. Some programs in universities like UCHICAGO and Stanford even cost as high as $60,000 - $73,000 in tuition/per year. Most Master's programs in the United States also take two years to complete. Thus, tuition for a two-year Master's degree program(at the rate of $45,000/year may gulp over 30million naira from you).

2. THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCESSES ARE MORE STRINGENT AND COMPETITIVE COMPARED TO THE U.K

Many grad school programs in the United States - particularly in R1 universities require you take standardized tests like G.R.E and even TOEFL in some instances. This means more funds are injected into the application process and more candidates to compete with their test scores. While some programs in different American universities now waive the G.R.E test - many have begged to differ and I've instead stuck to their gun.

3. IT TAKES LONGER

In the United Kingdom, you are most likely to bag your Master's degree in the course of just one academic year in a similar program(as a grad student in the U.S) but this is not the case in the United States. The American educational system will keep you in the libraries and classrooms for at least one more year - buried in research works, readings and paper writing.

4. American ENGLISH
If you ever get to visit the United States, you will realize that their pronunciations are to an extent different from the British(Water is pronounced as
"WADAR" in the United States). If you grew up in Nigeria and your parents could not afford to send you to secondary schools like B.I.S, LEKKI British School, GRANGE and the likes - you may struggle to communicate with Americans on your first few days on campus.

5. EXPOSURE TO WHAT MAY SEEM TO BE NEGATIVE CULTURAL INFLUENCES.

Particularly for those who are conservatives - you may find it inconvenient and shocking.

•GRADUATE SCHOOL IN THE U.K•

British universities are no doubt some of the best in the world. They exude class, history and culture. From the classrooms to the libraries, you see students and faculty members making efforts to build on legacies that have defined their excellence and greatness for decades.

PROS(Advantages)

(1). CHEAPER OPTION

Compared to American universities, the U.K offers a similar world-class education for cheaper tuition fees. A Master's degree program that will cost you $40,000(just school fees/tuition) a year in a R1 American University will cost you less than $25,000 in the United Kingdom. It is also pertinent to remember that you are paying the $25,000 just for a year in the U.K but in the U.S.A - you are paying the $40,000 twice. To put things in perspective, the school fees for a Master's degree in the U.K will cost you less than $30,000(less than 10million naira) while a similar program in the United States will cost you at least $80,000(about 30million naira).

(2). EASIER TRANSITION TO NIGERIAN SYSTEM

(3). MORE RESERVED AND PEACEFUL

This is the major reason why some Nigerian politicians pick U.K schools over American universities. Many people see the extreme social/cultural exposure in the United States as destructive. Although, there are still a lot of Nigerian elites whose children study and live in the United States - particularly those in the National Assembly. In fact, Nigerian business men and investors still pick the United States(Canada taking over now) over the U.K as the most preferred destination for their children.

(4). WORLD CLASS FACULTY AND FACILITIES

(5). EASIER TO SECURE STUDENT VISA COMPARED TO THE CURRENT TRUMP USA - PARTICULARLY FOR APPLICANTS BASED IN NIGERIA

The United States now extremely scrutinize their student visa application process. In the past, once you secure admission into an American university, you are almost 100% assured of a U.S F1 visa. These days, the rate of F1 visa denials is shocking; even candidates with scholarships and good immigration history are being denied visas. Some even struggle to secure visa interview appointments in Lagos and Abuja. Currently, compared to Trump's America, the U.K is more relaxed when it comes to student visa issuance.

CONS(Disadvantages).

(1). Less Funding/Scholarships
Although U.K schools do offer decent scholarships to impressive applicants, they are way less generous compared to American universities.
Apart from scholarship initiatives like CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP and Mastercard Foundation Scholarship for U.K universities - there are no many funding opportunities for prospective grad students - compared to the United States - where even a research fellowship or a G.S.A/T.A with a professor can cover all your tuition and living expenses for two years. American universities by far have bigger endowments and funding when compared to U.K schools.

(2). Grad School Admissions are largely hinged on CGPA

American universities tend to look at a candidate's entire profile(leadership, research, volunteer experiences etc) when making admission decisions but U.K schools are more particular about CGPA.

(3). DESPITE BORIS JOHNSON'S FRESH 2-YEAR OFFER TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS; THE U.K IS YET TO RE-AFFIRM ITSELF AS THE PREFERRED DESTINATION FOR A POTENTIAL FOREIGN WORKER/IMMIGRANT.

Best of luck.

Germany university are seriously moving up the ladder from less than four ranked uni in THE last year to about 23 uni listed in the ranking table this year despite its free education policy. UK is moving downward from 36 ranked university to less than 28 this year. American still remain as the most ranked country with good uni.

The biggest gain so far this years goes to Germany. if the trend continue, i foresee Germany as the next second largest destination soon. currently, she is the third.

They are shifting the goal post again. Some centuries ago, emotional "scientists" swore that life will be found on moon, venus and mars. A decade or two ago they swore again that life will be discovered with the help of advanced telescopes by 2020/2021. Today they are shifting the goal post again.

I do not doubt in the existence of extraterrestrial life. What i think is 10000000% impossible is that life began through random/natural means. It's absolutely impossible.
Giving an estimation of life outside our planet is an inteligent guess. we actually may not be living alone. there are many natural element here that is replicable on other planet which seems to suggest life may exist in other planet. I even go further that if life is established, Gold, diamond , crude oil etc will be discovered there as well.

Dscouraging this notion is not scientific, it simply an act of ignorance especially when there are lot of assumption and approximation.

It would be amusing to find conscious beings on some other planet. We'd be like kids who found daddy had another family hidden away somewhere.
Such evidence will come into reality in the next 10 years according to science prediction.

Pliz, don't just make accusations without proof.
If you check my posts,I always speak the truth! Even this hunger which is in Kenya,I have been posting pictures of starving fellows so that they can receive food aid.You see how good am I?
I didn't speak anything about Ghana. I always speak Kenyan issues so that the world must know and help! I will keep on doing this to Kenyans just because they are my neighbors, I want them to get more food aid!
Do u see how good am I to them? They are fortunate to have a neighbor like me!
kazikazi, i am not in anyway against you in my comment. I am only sighting you as an example of a non Nigerian on this thread who hasn't written against Nigeria and base on that, you will not be banned.
