freshest4live: You can even read it here on your Ghanian website, Nigeria is a failed state and yet for years Ghana were in debt to same Nigeria with millions of dollars for supply of gas. http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/business/Help-us-create-jobs-for-our-youth-Bawumia-entreats-Nigerian-business-leaders-537741 Do you know better than your vice president who knows the importance of strengthening ties with this failed state? owing debt is not a new thing and it does not show you have a weak economy. infact it a clever way to develop your economy if it is well manage. Japan and usa the highest indebted nation can testify. Good news ghana now has oil and she is on the process of extracting her own gas in maximum quantity. The production has started and if it fully begin in maximum quanttity. Ghana will end buying gas from nigeria. |

sirjerry: Two of the most significant and biggest project in africa.
The Nigeria-Morocco pipeline will have a positive impact on over 300 million inhabitants, Bourita said, noting that it would speed up electrification projects across West Africa, and serve as a basis for the creation of a competitive electricity regional market.
http://northafricapost.com/17865-nigeria-morocco-gas-pipeline-project-taking-shape.html
He said the project would be the single largest stream in the world. “The refinery and fertiliser projects will create job opportunities for the communities and Nigerians when it becomes operational. “The refinery will have a refining capacity of about 650,000 barrels of crude a day,’’ he said. Alake said the project would force down the price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) in the country and save money spent on importation. He said that projects such as these would optimise government revenue and wean Nigeria from relying solely on oil.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/09/dangote-17bn-dollars-refinery-create-300000-jobs-official/ good news. but the funmy thing is oil is not limited to nigeria only in weat africa. there is possibility ghana ,senegal ,liberia might start similar project simce all of fhem now posses a sizeable amount of oil export: russia is consructing the largest pipline network to china. Saudi arabia too may also start some project equal to that soon. Nigeria should focus her attention on brain power and not natural resources. Uk and getmany are the leading example. Despite almost to zero natural resources they are a formidable force to world economy. |

sirjerry: The person responsible for creating this thread need to have his mental faculty checked out.
Why, would someone in a good state of mind be comparing Nigeria to kenya, what is this a joke, kenya i mean seriously kenya to Nigeria?
Most of the argument going on here are even stupid, seriously people can be this ignorant in this age and time, imagine someone saying kenya has a satelitte launch capability, the FFFUK.
Why would an educated and resonable fellow be camparing Nairobi with Lagos, the money, economic activities(formal/informal, legal/illegal) that flows in lagos a day is bigger than that of the entire nation of kenya.
Tell me why would america be comparing itself to brunei. Why will america compare itself to switzerland.
Why will china compare itself to singapore ,macau.
Why would britain be comparing itself to norway.
Why would south africa comparing itself to mauritainia, namibia.
Why would Nigeria be comparing itself to kenya, ghana, benin, ivory coast.
Why, because we are not in your league. authough we have change your style of argument to more of educational impact. it seems you are new and you want to over hype. nigeria can even be compared to somalia depending on the yarstick you want to use in measuring. Usa and canada are always compared by forbes. So what make nigeria case diffrence. London as a city generate second largest income behind newyork and per with tokyo in the whole world. But it is absolutely wrong to even compare london with nigeria. You can compare country against each orther in whatever form. And not city to a country about 65 percent nigeria gdp comes from lagos: therefore lagos is an important strategy in niigeria economy: country like germany and usa have a diffrent city with diffrent amount of income but it aeems nigeria is modeling uk where most of the income are largely from one or two cities. |

TayserMahiri: There is a new constitution now that gives individual regions power to drive their socioeconomic matters without any interference from the central govt. This has addressed the problem well because tribal politics is all about poverty politics. Nobody cares about a tribe if they have a job and are satisfied. Does Ghana have tribal politics? yes but it is not well pronounce. the northern part of ghana and the volta region are not consider a proper ghania by the . akans. of recent some group of ewes from the volta region wanted to create their own state but that issue was quickly address. The goverment of ghana, has a listening ear. So they quickly tidy things before it get out of hand. |

Hbuyosh: The political circumstances that led to Uhuru becoming the president is very different from the circumstancs in Togo. Nobody even expected that Uhuru Kenyatta would run for an elective seat in the first place. He lost a parliamentary seat in 1997, and was so devastated, reportedly drowned his sorrow in alcohol, and nearly quit politics were it not for tthe then president Daniiel Moi, who nominates him to parliament, then gave him the job as the finance minister. In 2002 he ran for the presidency, but was severly defeated. He only managed to win in 2013 after his party formed an alliance with him as the flag- bear. As u can see, it isnt as a result of his progeny that he got here, he struggled, just like the other politicians in Kenya.
Tell me about Togo's Eyadema. Father dead, son immediately sworn in as president. shortly after the announcement that Gnassingbe Eyadema dead, the armedforce announce faure Eyadema the son of the late president as Togo's new leader. He said the armedforces had been confronted with what he called a power vacuum.Under theconstitution, the parliament speaker is supposed to take over, but the army chief of staff said he is out of the country.Later the main opposition leader, whose father was deposed in a coup organized by Mr. Eyadema . Olympio, called the new development a coup. "It is a coup because according to togo constitution if the president is incapacitated it is the speaker of the house who take over .Mr. Olympio was barred from the most recent presidential electionin 2003, which was marred by fraud and intimidation. Mr. Eyadema's son become the new leader. This leads to chaos and violence. It take the effort of ecowas power to bring the pressure down. Obasonjo the nigeria president as at then play,a leading role im restoring peace to togo. A yoruba army in togo who is a friend to my family told me eyadema and obasonjo were good friend during their millitary tranning in ghana and that is the reason obasonjo has interest in the son case. |

What l find hilarious is labelling an entire nation evil, drug addicts, criminals, etc. There is simply nothing we Nigerians can do if that's how you guys want to view things, we can only pity those who go to Ghana and are not criminals. i like your veiw. This is what the nigeria high commissioner(ademola)say when he was interveiw on the condition nigeria face in ghana prison and the high number of jail term given to them. He added that nothing can be done about it since he can not influence ghana law to favour nigerians only. And nigerians criminal issue abroad is a national problem that needs immediate solution. |

TayserMahiri: Guy, I like the way you shifted the focus of this thread. I know Kwameh was a good fella, probably the only popular west african independence figure. Its funny because I have never heard of any nigerian liberation heros... These countries who were handed freedom on a silver platter tend to go haywire somewhere along the way.
Not to be biased but I prefer nations that FOUGHT for independence not those who got it by peaceful means. It says alot about that country.
Now to the meat of the matter, Nyerere was just an awesome leader politically, not economically. He created a homogenous country with no divisions on a tribal basis and has stuck since. His economic policies however were those of a very naive person. I dont know much about his academic credentials but his policies could only have been from those of a philosopher, not an economist. Tanzania was the laughing stock of the region by the time he left office.
Mr. Idi Amin was just a terrible swahili speaking dictator with a very very low IQ. He is only popular among radicals, the same sorts you'd see supporting Mobutu Sseseko. He had ambitions of grabbing about half of Kenya and Tanzania because he had a few fighter jets he thought made him invincible. Man of little knowledge. Tanzania kicked his @ss outta Uganda.
Jomo Kenyatta was just a charismatic capitalist. Fulstop. Not the kind of guy you'd talk to about social welfare. His philosophy was every man must work for himself or die !!! He was very economically smart though and he foresaw a country that was easily the weakest in E.A grow to become the strongest to this date. In my opinion, most of Kenya's advances can be traced directly to him. He had great foresight. Which is why as soon as Kenya got independence and white people were leaving in droves with fear of this Mau Mau tyrant, he called a meeting and assured them that those who would remain would not face any form of revenge or discrimination. He also made sure Kenya got the UN HQ by providing all the land and other facilities such a huge organ would require. Not many leaders in Africa at that time would have done that.
On the other hand, the man was strict and not tolerant of criticism and mostly disavowed leaders who had communist ideologies. He is even accused of having murdered a few. Not to mention that the traces of tribal politics can be traced to him. As one guy pointed out, he was at one time called to order over government policies that seemed to favor his own kikuyu peoples in a parliament session and his reply was simple and candid : My people get milk in the morning, your people in the afternoon. He sowed much tribal hatred in kenya. i really like the way you try to break it down. But it seems this is tribal issues in kenya. What is the goverment doing to solve it. |

But it seems ghana police are combat ready . Therefore there is efficiency and effectiveness in the system. Ghana police will not give a little chance for fuckery |

Same thing with Obote. He repeateddy offered to return and give evidence on WHO EXACTLY KILLED THOUSANDS OF BAGANDAS WHEN HIS TROOPS WEREN'T EVEN IN LUWEERO. Also, do you have proof of the Kenyattas took acres? I've seen that figure bandied about. Yes,they have extensive land holdings but are really that figure?? Be careful with the seductive power of false narratives!! They're easy to believe and impossible to disprove. Did you watch the Ouko murder special investigation on Citizen tv? Finally, after years of abuse it was proved Troon of Scotland yard was full of b.s. and neither MoI nor Biwott had anything to do with Oukos killing! whao so you mean idi amin was innocent of the crime levy against him. Kenya is as corrupt and democratic as Nigeria or eeven SA. May I also tell u that the majority of the millionares in Kenya were not politicians or politically connected in any way. when it comes to freedom of speech, i think it should be check and balance. ghana is getting out of hand, the former president name was used to call bus conductor. insulting the president one on one on social platform or radio station. Hbuyosh: The vast majority of Ugandans view Idi Amin with a lot of revulsion. He killed hundreds of thousands of people, detained or forced millions into exile and ruined the economy of Uganda.
Anyway, where in Africa isnt nepotism practiced? Such is the nature of the African politics. Nepotism happens in Kenya, but it isnt as extreme as the case in say Uganda or Angola where the president can even appoint his wife and children to a very important positions in govt, even groom their children as heir apparent and operate the country as though it is a family business. It is not like that in Kenya, not very likely due to the certaim provisions in our comstitution. The govt appointee MUST be vetted by the senate, and the nomineee for the position has to earn tje approval from both the opposition and govt senators.
So, the president can only appoint his political buddies, but family members........nope. i read much about idi amin brutality. and that was what suprise me when i saw some group of uganda taking him as hero. the current president of kenya is a son to the first president jomo kenyatta how was that political role play during the time of election?.. something related to it happens in togo. it almost became bloody. |

Europe too is not bad idea. Use USA FOR EXAMPLE. Usa enjoy good business both with closer member and the EU |

Hbuyosh: Just a kind request. Never ever put Idi Amin in the same statement with such respected East African statesmen like Nyerere amd Kenyatta. He has his peers in people like Hitler.
Nyerere built one of the most peaceful and cohesive societies in Africa that is Tanzania, but his policy of Ujamaa, a brand of socialism he formulated and experimented with in Tanzania flopped badly. Tanzania instead of progressing, failed economically. The effect of his brand of socialism was catastrophic, some estimates claim that upto 90% of the population of Tanzania was living in abject poverty. He ackmowledged his mistake and opted to abdicate his position as president in 1985, the first ever African head of state to do so. He is still highly revered almoost like a god in Tanzania
Kenyatta's Kenya on the other hand was progressing quite well economically, he believed strongly in capitalism, having witnessed for himself the effects of both the communist and capitalist systems in his long stay in both Russia and Britain in the 20s and 30s. He borrowed much of his economic policies from Britain and America, Kenya in the late 60s and 70s was the fastest growing economy amongst the newly independent black states, with the economy growing at betwn 6% and 20%. In 1975 for example, yhe Kenyan economy grew at a record 22%. However his regime was marked with widespread corruption, tribalism, greed, repression and heis accused of having grabbed huge chunks of the most feryile lands in different parts of the country- almost 500,000 acres, whilst millions of Kenyans had no land to till, forcing them to move into cities and many ended up in slums, such as Kibera. whao impressive. so idi amin can only be compared to some one like hitler. that is very bad of him too brutal. i was reading somewhere online . some groups of uganda were praising him. dont you think kenya political system favour nepotism. |

darfay: exactly Ghana should leave cos Nigeria's domination is too much imagine how can we have 70% of the seat in ecowas parliament but there were/are plans for a single currency but some requirements had to be met of which Nigeria is the closest to meeting even Ghana, liberia $ Sierra Leone were below bar bro ecowas has a lot of benefit for each member. A very less percentage of commodity moving in and out each member state to another. Free movement of member to any any state under the cover of ecowas. Millitary assistance during chaos time. And many more. Authough i agree some member are enjoying the priviledge better than some state. Nigeria was able to penetrate ghana market as a result of ecowas rules and regulation. There was a time in ghana in 2013 when ghanians complain of foreigner domination their local market. Ghana goverment was called to order by the ecowas court ... I think we should look much in a way to improve it better than to dissolve it. We can borrow idea from gulf member state not EU. |

obaaderemi: There will only be one Osagyefo in the real sense of it.You know he came up with a good plan based on marxist ideas. That was his first mistake because he continued to have a romance with america and britain. This inconsistence was suicidal at a time when the cold war was at its height. When his plans failed because of poor implementation and american sabotage,he turned on angry Ghanaians and declared himself president for life. Many innocent people went to jail for opposing him and ghanaians became very poor.He was brilliant but his politics was inconsistent. you were refering to dr kwame inkrumah right. Only few knew him by osagyefo outside ghana. During the early days of independence. There were three type of idealogy that were circulating. The casablanca ,monrovia and librevia. This idealogy were name by thy city in which they were propoed. Kwame inkrumah follow the casablanca approach which is to unite africa under the same leadership and radical means if their objective is not address while awolowo and co follow the liberevia approach which is to be self independent and rely on negotiation approach to solve issues. So imagine some one like inkrumah looking up to a federation state like usa and russia as at that time, even uk a combine of four independence state idea will be sourt out for. Uk ,russia and usa were the leading countries then after germany defeat. So it is reasonable for someone like dr kwame inkrumah to sort for their ideas. He did well according to me. Becuse he lay a good master plan for ghana economy which is still use as a model today. Ghana economic plan was develop to model uk the best in the world as at that time. Thanks to the leading academia professour gawa which help model ghana constitution to favour business act. my only issue with him is the enemy he was working with and call them friends. only gaddafi can be compared with him. this two leader will have made africa a better place than america. read this book green book.
