Shomolu, Fadeyi, Mushin, Onipanu, lyana Oworo, Bariga, Ketu and Ebute meta are even worse

Agberoism seems to have become the ambition of an average school drop out and it won't become a societal menace if government is not actively or subtly involved

Asking around, l was told these school drop outs and miscreants are allocated hoods, tarmacs and spots in strategic suburbs to collect levies and taxes as rewards for their political loyalty, thuggery and disruptive behavior during elections..

Politicians don't reward them with education to improve their lives or decent jobs to be useful in the society but as ticket collectors on the streets while their own progenies study abroad and fill top vacancies in Alausa

Is it the expressway from Ojota to Costain that now has collapsed portions that a simple patchwork could have solved?

Is it the the road to Ogombo from Abraham Adesanya that has totally collapsed and spills traffic to Abraham Adesanya roundabout?

Is it the abandoned project at VGC that left bad portions of road there that causes massive traffic and loss of productive hours?

Is it the construction of Awoyaya to Abraham Adesanya section of the Lekki-Epe Expressway that is moving at the speed of snail which has made a trip that should have been 10 minutes to run into 3 hours sometimes?

Or is the total collapse of infrastructure in Idumota Market with flood almost taking over some section of the market without government lifting a finger?

Or is it the fact that no inner streets roads has been constructed anywhere in Lagos in the past four years?

These things leaves you wondering, “what is Lagos really doing with its huge revenue”?

Again, one can’t help but wonder, if smaller and poorer states like Ebonyi, etc, can build infrastructures without putting it back on the residents in the name of tolls, why does Lagos keep concessioning major infrastructural projects like roads, bridges, to private entities who use their money to build these projects and resort to daily taxing of residents in the name of tolls in order to recoup their investment?

The Nigerian Government through the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, announced the VAT Direct Initiative, a scheme that would enable FG to collect Value Added Taxes from the informal sector and reduce multiple taxations in the informal economy.

The FIRS disclosed this in a statement on Monday afternoon, stating that it FIRS is partnering with the Market Traders Association of Nigeria to collect & remit VAT from their members especially those in the informal sector using a unified systems technology.

The FIRS is the agency responsible for collecting Valued Added Taxes in Nigeria and other revenues accruable to the FG.

The Market Traders Association of Nigeria, founded in 1995, in the statement revealed that it is the largest player in Nigeria’s informal market space with a membership of over 40 million

The FIRS noted that it is partnering with MATAN to collect and remit Valued Added Taxes from their members- especially those in the informal, adding:
“This collaboration is known as VAT Direct Initiative,

“A collaboration between FIRS and MATAN where MATAN promotes awareness on VAT collection and remittance in the marketplace and informal sector, while also simplifying VAT payment and remittance for the marketplace and informal sector using a purpose-built digital platform.

What you should know

Nigeria’s Value Added Tax (VAT) increased by 1.75% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, reaching N709.59 billion in Q1 2023.

The manufacturing sector accounted for the largest share of VAT collection in Q1 2023 at 29.65%.

Information and communication followed with a share of 19.29%, while mining & quarrying contributed 12.24% to VAT collection during the same period.
