Those who go through EE route undergo extensive background checks, verification of docs etc. Sometimes, it takes nearly 2 years if they're from countries or regions that are poorly developed i.e countries with inefficient law enforcement agencies it's difficult verifying criminal records etc. Refugees are sometimes exceptions since they're fleeing conflict and potential loss of life.

My advice is to take TOEFL/IELTS. Depending on the type of program you're pursuing, you'll only spend a fraction of the fee for the one the University is organizing if you take one of the aforementioned standardized tests.
