The Batman (2022) 9/10
Director: Matt Reeves

I haven't had a good noir film in a while, so Matt Reeves' vision of the Caped Crusader was most welcome.
Pattinson aced his first outing as the World's Greatest Detective (which he's not yet, as of this movie, but will eventually grow into) and I'm really hoping for sequels soon for him to follow up this performance.
I have such a Jeffrey Wright bias, I'm not even going to bother praising his performance. I hope to see his Gordon explored more in future movies.
Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman while possessing her sensuality lacked her experienced guile and ruthlessness which leads me to believe that, just like Pattinson's Batman, she's also in the early years of her being Catwoman.
Colin Farrell impressed enough as The Penguin to have me looking forward to his television series. Extra points if Gordon features there, as well.
And, of course, Paul Dano who was absolutely unnerving in his portrayal of Riddler as an anarchist psychopath.

Long runtimes are completely dependent on their pacing and Reeves does a really great job here immersing you into the story, that on the rare occasion you check the time, you're amazed at how much time has passed. There's not much filler and he doesn't let the scenes drag before moving forward.

Michael Giacchino is gunning for Hans Zimmer's throne and I say he has a clear shot. Hoping he comes back for the sequels and grows the sound to more epic levels till we get something akin to or surpassing Arachnoverture.

It was a great outing for The Bat at the end of the day, showing his first transformation from a creature of vengeance to becoming a beacon of hope while leaving many paths yet to be explored in the future.

Good review. Top marks.

I think the government is trying to protect the cinema. Predominantly Muslim countries have some of the most intolerant people in the world. They may burn down the whole cinema if they see such scenes in a movie.

The irony is that these same intolerant Muslim countries have the highest Internet traffic for gay porn in the world. Closet gays, the lot.

Not good at all. Man's a brilliant filmmaker and deserves better. I'm not even sure if this movie will even hit $120mn globally.
I actually thought it'd do up to $180-200mn worldwide.
Word of mouth is good but I ain't sure if general audience is hyped enough to turn up for it. Peeps seem more relaxed to wait for streaming release than to watch it in theaters.

It continues to reinforce the trend: Adult dramas seems dead in North America.

Moviegoers are calling it an art house film with meandering dialogue and surreal elements. This could explain why it isn't performing well. Hopefully, it recoups its money on VOD, streaming, or wherever it ends up.

What are these people and countries afraid of? It's as if many of these people are closet gay but don't want the rest of the world to know, so they overcompensate. Like, I'm not gay, but that doesn't mean I hate gay people. The way they choose to live their lives has no influence on me. Seriously, why do people care so much??

But why is an episode of "Stranger Things" costing $30m to make?? GOT with literal Dragons and "Army of the Dead" didn't cost this much to make.

According to what I've read, a large chunk of the money goes to the cast, who were able to negotiate a substantial fee for themselves.

* Exhibit C: Videos of Depp displaying an aggressive attitude toward Amber, including damaging house furniture in a drunken rage, destroying Amber's phone, and violently assaulting Amber.

* Exhibit D: Text messages demonstrating Depp's systematic psychological assault on Amber.

I believe I've made my point, but sure, let's pretend Depp is Jesus. I mean, this the same person who is good friends with Marilyn Mason, a known rapist, and has admitted on record to having liquor and drug-induced blackouts where he couldn't remember what he did.

If Depp is such a good guy, then riddle me this; why would a UK court rule against him, then subsequently have his defamation appeal rejected? They must have had evidence that strongly implicated Depp as a wife abuser, don't you think?

The public record has always showed Depp to be an abuser in that relationship, which is why your current "Saint Depp" narrative puzzles me. From the way you're spinning it, one would think Depp never so much as talked back at Amber during their fights. The only thing this trial has revealed is that Depp was not the only abuser in that relationship; in fact, Amber gave as good as she got.

Please, let's strive to be objective in our thinking. I understand you like Depp, but portraying him as blameless in their troubled relationship would never fly. He may not be as bad as Amber, but he is guilty. They both are.

How do you define violent, banging doors when frustrated , banging wardrobes, there hasn't been any actual evidence corroborated by a witness which places Depp as physically abusing Amber, everything has been hearsay. The airplane incident has been debunked, when her attorney brought it up during Keenan's cross, there was an objection on the grounds of hearsay and the judge sustained.. There's a reason even high profile stars like Sia can boldly say they stand with Depp, it's very difficult for a woman of such standing to publicly tweet her support for Depp..

Depp has been in the industry for years, merely being a big Hollywood star doesn't make him a narcissist, Depp has literally had unknown people (painters, artists,) live in his penthouses for free and given them freehand to paint and just make art...
Infact, a narrative that had begun even amongst Amber's friends long before this became a public debacle was Depp was too nice which resulted in him being taken advantage of by many people (Amber chief culprit), his financial advisors inclusive... Being high a lot of the time certainly helped...

Statistically, the majority of abusive relationships are mutually abusive. I've read research that show men are more likely to initiate mutual abuse than women. I've also seen research that question men and women in violent relationships why they started using physical violence in the first place...

"In response to physical abuse" was number one for males, while "in response to verbal abuse" was number one for women.

Regardless of whether or not this was a case of mutual abuse, neither party had clean hands.

Here's my short and honest opinion:

Depp is(was) an emotionally immature junkie who readily returned to childish habits and impulses, and Heard has Borderline Personality Disorder. These folks (like many in the entertainment industry) are malignant narcissists on a level that most of us can't fathom. They were both awful people, it's really that simple.

I want Depp to win, because of how he was treated unfairly by the media and the MeToo movement, but let's not pretend that he's innocent in all of this. After all, it takes two people to tangle.
