Downloaded & installed but haven't had the time to play it.

How is the gameplay like?!!

Is it nice?

It stuttered a little at first. The framerate was quite low in the first section (exterior), but after I scaled it down to 80%, medium settings, and capped at 30fps, it smoothed out, albeit with occasional stutters, especially during cutscenes.

Generally, it's a beautiful game, I enjoyed every second... was blown away by how good it looked.

i am chatting with the DanielOyaskii, and the next thing i am being attacked for my preferences and choices.

one of the truly fked up things about nigerians s how poverty/struggle has formatted people brains

go to reddit - every other day on threads like pcmaster race, people are showing their rigs, setups etal

no one is getting salty and bitching about 'showing off'. they ask how did you do it, they advise on things that could be done better. some make jokes about selling kidneys or cries in family responsibilities

but all that nigerians, esp on nairaland seem to be able to do is get salty.

from my days in university, l learnt how low quality video can fk a movie up for you - and i simply do not go there anymore.

my friends and i watched a cinema dub of the lost world jurassic parkd and we all thought the movie was shit. years later i got a clear copy and we had to watch it again.that is how mindblowing the difference was. i experienced the exact same thing when i started watching dvds with 8 movies shoe horned in. i watched alien [1979] and the movie was barely watchable.

so i will not defend watching poor quality movies. low quality rips are one of teh reasons why you see people saying this movie was lousy, that movie was messed up - because so much of the movie is lost in poor audio and artefacts. you see that top gun moviie - i am not watching until a proper copy is out.

when you have eaten caviar, it is hard to go back to sausage. and that is what 480p video is unless you are watching on a crt tv.

i am not sure what you expected - but vawulence begets vawulence
I agree with your sentiment because mine is similar to yours. The thing is, I acknowledge his point of view. What I can't fathom is why you chose to chide him instead of trying to engage him civilly.

Vawulence breeds vawulence, but I don't think that was his intention; I mean, he made some valid points. 480p resolution videos are adequate and are what many people can afford due to financial constraints.

The fact that Tom cruise insisted on flying a real jet for the movie is amazing efforts..

While Tom Cruise is a licensed pilot who has flown helicopters and planes, the US Navy refused to allow him to fly an F-18. They let him into the cockpit, but he couldn't use the controls.

Not entirely correct, but mostly correct.

And when I said mainstream, I kinda had blockbusters in mind of which only Hidalgo comes close.

Nonetheless, dude's seriously underrated.

He's in the same WhatsApp group with Ethan Hawke: fine actors that are being glossed over due to low exposure and publicity.

In the context I used it, I inferred that you're mostly incorrect. It's simply a polite way of telling someone they're mistaken.

I can't speak for Viggo, but I believe Ethan Hawke is highly-rated in Hollywood. As an actor, he is somewhat unconventional, and for this reason, he prefers to star in films in which he can fully express himself artistically. Indie films provide him with that opportunity, so naturally, you'll often see him starring in them, despite the fact that he can walk into any mainstream production if he so desires. He's awesome like that.

I wonder why Viggo Mortensen has refused to star in any mainstream movie since The Lord of The Rings.

That isn't entirely correct. Sure, he's starred in some indie films, but he's also starred in a number of mainstream films. He worked with David Cronenberg on both 'Eastern Promises' and 'A History of Violence' in the mid-2000s. He was in 'Hildalgo' and 'Appaloosa.' He also had a supporting role in 'Green Book', for which he received an Oscar nomination.

**Crimes of the Future**

Not my favorite Cronenberg film, but it's still very interesting. The film's central theme is adaptation, human evolution, and oddities in romance. Each scene contributes to the dystopian world you're in, sometimes through exposition, but mostly through bizarre performance art.

Generally, it's visually weird and gross as fvck, but hey, it's Cronenberg... Cronie gonna crone. Recommend to anyone who enjoys Cronenberg's work, but avoid if you don't.

Probably... Especially with Amazon's marketing with "Nothing is truly Evil in the beginning..."

He was once good before turning evil, as he was a Maiar. This may seem incredulous, but Gandalf and Sauron were of the same race. Yep, Gandalf was Maiar before reincarnating as a wizard in the Third Age. Only the elves knew of his origins.

Sauron simply lost his way after being corrupted by Morgoth (another Maiar) in the first age.

Sauron is very much in the show and is confirmed.
Although this young Blonde look doesn't make him menacing or dangerous as he really is.
Most likely his steady rise to power. ↓↓

As a Maiar, he was a shapeshifter. He has no true form and changes his appearance as men change their clothes. Prior to taking on the menacing form seen in The Fellowship of the Ring, He modeled himself after the fairest beings in Middle Earth, the elves. As a result, his coporeal form was more elegant than intimidating.

Never said he wasn't there. I said it takes place before his time. As the story progresses, it should chronicle his rise after Morgoth's fall.

Of course, this is all hinged on the premise that Amazon actually makes an attempt to follow the canonical events of things. If they do, doubt we'd be seeing a glimpse of The Lord of Mordor until the very end of the season.

Doubt Morgoth would be any kind of villain seeing as the First Age ended with his defeat. Wouldn't make sense for him for him to be a villain in a tale set in the Second Age.

With the amount of money Prime spent on Season 1 and plans to spend on future seasons, there's no doubt we'll see a lot of Sauron. He was responsible for the fall of Numenor, among other atrocities. It'd be fascinating to witness Sauron in his coporeal form and his steady rise to become a formidable force.

Not true.
Sauron has always been there.
He was there in the time of Morgoth, serving as Morgoth's disciple/servant.
He was there after Morgoth was overthrown,
He was there to corrupt and mentor the Witch King in the second age.

The timeline of the Ring of Power is still hazy.
Everyone knows it's a prequel series and took place long before events in The Hobbit transpired but aside from that, details are hazy.
So the primary villain will either be Morgoth, Sauron, or the Witch King.

It's not as hazy as you think. The timeline, I believe, is from the second age.

I'm fairly certain Sauron will be the main antagonist.

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

All 3 movies 9/10.... solid trilogy...

I heard Hobbit is a prequel

Also, The Rings of Power is a prequel I heard

Does anyone know the timeline of The Rings of Power?
Does it cover the battle that led to Isildur's victory over Sauron? Cos I assume it does...considering the ring kept getting lost for many years

The timeline is from the second age and spans 3500 years, so a lot happened.

So then I can call a show like the umbrella academy full blown science fiction

It's a superhero fiction with hard fantasy and soft science fiction subgenres, but since I'm not a fan of categorizing shows by their subgenres, I'd just say it's a superhero tv show with a dash of adventure and call it a day.
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by VerifiedStalin: 3:10pm On Jul 30, 2022
Kaycee7:
But I never called every superhero fiction a sci-fi. We were talking about The Boys, specifically, and I pointed out that it does have sci-fi elements.
I wouldn't make the same argument for Loki, even though it's also a superhero TV series.

And let's not forget sub genres exist. The Boys having a sci-fi subgenre doesn't take away from its primary superhero fiction genre.

Genre is the sum of all subgenres put together in their proper context. It's the finished article... a smartphone. If you break down a genre, say, superhero fiction, you'll find soft science fiction and hard fantasy, but only in their purest form and without context. It'd be a motherboard and a chipset. Two critical components that are ineffective on their own but extremely effective when combined.

Classifying stories by subgenre will invariably result in every story with the bare minimum of technology being labeled as science fiction. That is why genre is mainstream while subgenre is not.
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by VerifiedStalin: 7:26am On Jul 30, 2022
Kaycee7:
Superhero fiction falls between the hard fantasy and soft sci-fi spectrum.
And sci-fi also falls under speculative fiction.

According to the article, it falls somewhere between hard fantasy and soft science. It clearly indicates that it is a hybrid genre. It's exactly what I said.

You can't call every superhero fiction a science fiction because science and its ramifications aren't at the heart of the superhero genre. For crying out loud, superhero fiction genre was created for this very purpose.

I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but I do know that while speculative fiction is an umbrella term for elements that do not exist in reality, science fiction differs from it in that some of it deals with plausible scientific elements.

I can provide links to articles that support what I've said, but I don't have the time. You can always look it up yourself.

We can't call Harry Potter, the narnia chronicles, the Lord of the rings etal speculative fiction.

They do not even attempt to allude to science. They are all about magic.

Maybe star wars which is a mix of sci fi and fantasy.

Fantasy is a broad genre that includes much more than just magic.
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by VerifiedStalin: 8:26pm On Jul 29, 2022
GloriousGbola:

Give the man a cigar.

But science fantasy and fantasy are still different genres.

You can't say the hobbit and the terminator franchise are both fantasy.

Particularly as contemporary fantasy has binary good and evil.

The elements in contemporary fantasy are witches, wizards, warlocks, fairies, magical animal. Human hybrids, and monsters of some kind

Fantasy is a melting pot of speculative fiction. It is a broad genre.
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by VerifiedStalin: 8:15pm On Jul 29, 2022
GloriousGbola:

It's actually why you have the term hard science fiction. Ftl drives, laser pistols etal are not hard science.

Intersteller travel will take centuries. Also a lot of sci fi does not really take into account the effects of some of the things featured. You're born in space or you live in space, your skeleton will be warped.

So its not so much that the boys is fantasy per se, but that it is lazy or not hard sci fi.

The premise is simple after all - vought is a genetics company.

Ironically a movie that could be called hard science with regards to genetic is Gattaca, which has a future where tinkering with your kids genes is the thing and basic people are an underclass.

Kaycee7:
Sounds like you're missing the fiction in sci-fi. The whole point is that the science doesn't exist in the real world.
The creation of the super-powered individuals in The Boys is through a scientific process. The administration of a a deliberately synthesized chemical compound designated as Compound V. As there are no real life instances of such a scenario, the science is fictitious. Hence, it definitely falls in the realm of science fiction.

If the powers were gotten from administering some substance of unknown origin, then it would indeed fall squarely within the purview of fantasy.

When fantasy and science collide, we get a hybrid genre called science fantasy. Science fantasy differs from science fiction in one crucial way; While science fiction is based on a scientific premise, science fantasy invents science that does not exist in our reality.

An argument can be made that science fantasy is Speculative fiction as opposed to Science Fiction, because it is speculative rather than scientific. And, because Superhero is essentially a science fantasy, The Boys is a superhero TV show with satire, dark comedy, and action elements.

Edit: Superhero is a genre of Speculative fiction. I was right.

Hold up. Chemical cocktail that gives you superhuman abilities is not in the realm of sci-fi?

No, it's magical, which falls squarely within the purview of fantasy. There is no science creation that would have you shooting death rays from your eyes.

With few exceptions, the vast majority of superhero movies and shows are pure fantasy. Their abilities are mostly magical, with no real-world explanation.

Read somewhere earlier this year about Universal giving him what ever amount he wants to make whatever kinda movie he wants, if he nails this, I would say Universal would likely go that route....
