Phew, finally back from a veeery long weekend. Anybody miss me? Didn't watch any movies just a lot of sitcoms and Agatha Christie's Poirot episodes. Now I'm fully resumed and back in business. iice must feel dejected as Nairaland must be taking something of a break. Sorry iice. I know you have a life outside nairaland, lol. How are you? How's everybody? I feel refreshed though. I got to see my beloved brother. He's becoming imposing. I'm getting scared of the guy. He could kick my ass easily. Much more easily as there is no hierarchy in our house and therefore my dad or mum would not give a second look to me sobbing in a corner. I guess I'm ranting, that's because I have nothing to say until somebody jump starts me as Spikyn is so deft at with his thought provoking questions. I saw Prince of Tides, of which I have a book I've not yet read. Reading it now. So I guess I lied when I said I didn't see any movies. Hollaback girls and boys

Well! I don't know what to say other than as we all are educated to some level we should research Islam before passing many comments. Islam does not absolutely condone killing anybody for such a reason. If that were the case just think why would people like Mohammed Ali, Cat Stevens and Prof. Moore choose to be muslims. It's very true that Islam is populated by a lot of terrorism and it is very easy for the stupid who are dogmatic to get carried away with lies or to amplify rules that would have applied in the seventh century to things now. Anyway the bottom line is this, don't get brain washed by the big giant propaganda machine and believe me I'm not being paranoid, it's real. I think people should occupy their time finding out who are the real criminals at the helm of affairs. These stupid so called Jihadists who don't know anything about Jihad get opinionated with things that are happening in palestine for instance and long for such things over here as if they were the same things. They used hail Saddam Hussein who used to kill muslims himself. they are just a bunch of stupid sheep that are being used for political reasons. Capisce?

Guess you've had your beauty sleep, iice.

Spikyn, I think you should be happy to have service over with rather than being nostalgic about it. Except of course if there were pretty amazon-like gurlz in that village you speak of.

I played Resident Evil 3 to some level and dropped it to play Soul Reaver. I thought it was too much killing and no adventure. I love games that are like quests or missions.

Akin, where you dey. AWOL or MIA or heaven forbid KIA (guess you can't answer then, can you?)

F&F4 is going make me choke if it should come out. It doesn't have enough material to be made again. At least name it something else. Torque, Biker Boys and F&F are essentially the same thing. I want a good story with good dialogue.

If Justice League is going to make it, which it definitely will, it will definitely be a major event like X-men or even greater. I just hope they manage to stay true to the comics or at least the cartoons. Just thinking out loud here; won't it be cool to try a series of Roswell Conspiracies with real actors this time. make it like X-Files.

I was just about to post all of the above when I was prompted that iice had posted again. 2 in 1 for y'all.

Don't know J. J. Abrams, but I guess he's something of a behind the scenes giant, from all iice says. Fringe really sounds good and maybe I'll retract my roswell conspiracies feasibiliity study, to replace it with this one. I just hope they don't put too many familiar faces in it.

I'll be checking up on Abrams since he's gonna do Star Trek. Will hate to see him botch it. Hulk? haven't seen that one either even the former one with Nick Nolte. I just seem to miss films and fear going back a generation when there are a whole catalogue of new ones to get engrossed in. Hope the special effects don't get too computer generated, if you know what I mean. I think my nose is going to get blocked tonight. Oh boy, flu calls. Darn AC!

Anyway, enjoy your weekend y'all and permit me to say you've earned it!

The official website of The Rule of Four is , http://www.theruleoffour.com. I think you should be able to click that. Though it's mainly a forum and fan based site. I'm not sure if they're going to give you a preview of the book even. That's understandable because the book is the first of the authors (they're two best friends who recently graduated, one from Harvard and the other from Princeton, which happens to be the backdrop of the book) But I'm sure there are people out there who can make the book available and very illegal too. If you have Limewire of Emule software, you should be able to find it. If I can find it myself then I'll send it too. If all fails you might have to part with 7.99 or there about or find a friend who has, hehehe.

Family › Re: I Won't Circumcise My Baby Boy (If Any) by vescucci(m): 9:16am On Oct 04, 2007
Goddamit! I can't believe this. You're fighting a 'cause' because some Jewish person was 'forced' to circumcise his kid? Did someone put a gun to his head? Or did they threaten to freeze his bank account? Circumcision is an integral part of Jewish culture and Islam for that matter. I don't know whether Christians are at liberty or whatever. But from a secular point of view, it looks better circumcised. I have only seen a boy not circumcised once and I thought he had a disease or something. Don't fight another person's war, man. Your kid'll kick your ass in old age if you don't circumcise him.

Now if you wanna fight female circumcision, that's a fairly honorable cause. Nobody wants to spoil the joys of sex for the ladies and it will be up to her to keep her urges under wraps when she grows up. But the male foreskin serves no known purpose except to make your pecker look like a ram's.

I hope you're circumcised, Seun.

I really do!

Oh yeah! That's what Kah-el (or Jor-el) means. Oh, it's been so long I saw anything pertaining to Superman. Though I can't really remember the guy's parents that much except when they sent him off their planet before it went KABOOM supernova like.

I used to play the demo version of Silent Hill on my brother's PS2 and it was scary as hell, and I don't scare easy. Sometimes I see myself in the game. I've not seen the movie yet, though. I'm not sure I'm up to it, lol.

Will add it to my list of 'must watch before I bite the dust'!
TV/Movies › Re: Any "heroes, Kyle Xy, Monk Or Joan Of Arcadia" Fans? by vescucci(m): 8:47am On Oct 04, 2007
Yeah, Butterfly effect, that's the one, with Ashton Kutcher too. Jim and Ashton now that I think about it have a lot in common, they should have done Dumb and Dumber together. Academy for a series, I wouldn't have believed I wrote that if it wasn't staring at my face right now. Anyways, I AM getting older too, damn! Wouldn't it be nice to stay forever young?

If 23 sounds like you make it, then it might be worth it. I like stuff like that. Like there's this book, The Rule of Four, that I really think should be made into a movie before long. It has more puzzles than The Da Vinci Code or National Treasury (is that right? You know which I mean-God I really am getting old). Plus the budget could be low with massive returns. In fact I could make a cast in my head right now. My summarization class is coming on nicely!

Whoa! There are some movies that fet ratings just because it's sooo bad. The types you take a clingy friend who doesn't understand that you need to be alone right now. I remember I bought this movie with Matt Damon and one other guy. They got lost in a desert and one of them ended up dead while the other made it to the road to be picked up by a good samaritan. The movie from beginning to end had only 5 actors. And I added the two people in the car who saved Matt's character who only appeared for a coupla minutes. I used to 'suddenly feel like watching this movie' whenever my younger brothers come to bother me, mostly just to see what I'm up to. As expected they soon find their room and their video games more appealing than whatever I'm doing. Problem solved! Imagine how many of that film would have been sold for this sole purpose! Wicker Man might be the next in line, huh?

What exactly is Kah-el or Jor-el supposed to mean? Or what is it supposed to be associated with?

Missiles, huh? I usually automatically edit texts as I'm reading, so they'd have to be really terrible mistakes before I get to notice them. One research found that it don't matter what order the letters of a word come in as long as the first and last are in place and there are no added or deleted letters, any sentence would be easy to read and make a lot of sense. Anyway, nice one, iice! hhmmmnn nice iice. nice iice likes ice cream and rice and guys but doesn't have lice or mice. Incoherent non-sense?
TV/Movies › Re: Any "heroes, Kyle Xy, Monk Or Joan Of Arcadia" Fans? by vescucci(m): 3:24pm On Oct 03, 2007
Ok then. I'll look out for them series. I saw a trailer and review for the Mr Brooks film and I think it's fabulous. I'm always amazed how such very good stories are found nowadays. The Hurt guy was like his alter ego, the devil in him if you will. I wonder how it would have been if another guy plays the angel in him. It would have been too comical but fun nonetheless to think of.

If 23 is anything like you described then I'd say they were pushing it cuz I think I saw a film once, Butterfly, that has a very similar story with THE SAME FREAKING ACTOR! except of course, if it's a sequel.

Ugly Betty won an academy, didn't it? Well haven't got around to seeing it either. it's like theirs an explosion of all these series these days and it's grueling to keep up. Damn Hollywood! Space it out for my lifetime, dammit!

Well, uh, if you're gonna cross anything, I'd suggest a part of your body that you might not use too often, cuz you might be crossing it for over a year. Besides who ever heard of a masterpiece written quickly? Barbara Cartland used to dictate her books to a stenographer and finish her books short of weeks sometime. (time taken to READ some books) but Stephen King also spent 4 years of his life to write 'IT'. IT being a book. Used to have trouble with that book. Ask your brother if he has read 'IT' and when he says what, you say "IT". He'd probably think you have more screws loose than can provide proper functionality. Bottomline: I'm going in between, 1+ years and if I ain't done I probably never will.

God I need to go back to school and learn summarization again.

iice I presume you're talking about Dexter, ain't ya! If you're then I gotta get me this stuff. I like serial killer flicks. In fact I'm writing my debut book, and guess what, it's about two serial killers at loggerheads not quite like Kiss The Girls, but sorta inspired by it. I'm still writing and I'm not sure if I've reached a point to decide whether it's worth it, to continue I mean. What with all this fake ass Publishers up here, and all. Anyways there isn't much about that stuff I wanna say, prematurely. When the s**t hit the fan I'll tell y'all. If the reverse is the case, I'll tell y'all too. But don't wait on me cuz, I might take, say a year for this, cuz I'm sorta a perfectionist on this kinda stuff. Too much talk!

Akin was just playing about the Golden globe awards. Just trying to emphasize the botched movie, Wicker Man. Now that I think about it, what kind of a name is that? A man that is a walking wicker, as in, a lantern? Whatever! About Nicholas, I never knew he had a fetish for comics. I guess that makes two of you or three of us, hehehe. What akin meant by messing with a friend of Johnny's beats me too. But Enter the Dragon was definitely Bruce Lee. I think I soiled myself when I saw some scenes in that movie from way back, early 90's I think. Saw another movie by his son, Brandon which wasn't bad but I guess we all know that he lost his life on set too. Tragic s**t. Thank God he didn't have a son going into movies or the trend might have carried on. enough on that note.

As you said, iice, Jet Li's a very good villain. His alter ego (the bad one I mean) in The One stole the show. Lethal Weapon, touche! And Jackie Chan, hmmmnnn, I've never in my life seen him play a villain, and even his good guy roles aren't 'don't give a s**t' types. They're always cute, loving and funny types trying to save the world and stuff. But nowadays fight scenes are going beyond highly rehearsed and orchestrated like we see in Jackie's films to what can be described as brute and brawny stuff like in, say, The Protector or Bourne Ultimatum! That's why I'm not too into Chinese martial arts films-the actors are too animated and gesture as if they have to use force and technique to do the most menial of things. When I saw Evil cult, I felt insulted, period. I like their regular movies though, without all the excessive fighting. As I can attest, they can be very passionate. If you've seen The Kidnapper or Naked Weapon minus all the ridiculous fight scenes both have very charming story lines.

Ha, Boondocks! I also happen to have about 15 episodes on my computer. Do you know how much they have rolled out, or are they in seasons too. I've never seen it on any network on TV. Never heard of it earlier, though I'm really far from home nowadays and thus away from cable TV. sigh! I definitely love the show and recommend. I don't know how you look, but I'd call you a 'cutey pie' nonetheless, lol.

Akin, BTW, I laughed out loud, when I saw your worst this and that lines. Folks at my office are learning to keep a safe distance from me as a result. Booze, huh? Partying over the Independence, are you? Hope your hang-over doesn't hang around too long. See ya

I've been one forlorn mother, being away from this thread, free at last! Well, well, guess who's back? Da princess is here! Liam, Ham, Blam, puhleeze, I'm kinda getting tired of this guy. That said, Wicker Man? Never heard of that one. The last I heard of Nicholas Cage was this 9/11 film where he had a very ridiculous moustache, hehe. The poor guy isn't getting roles commensurate with his prowess as seen in his previous films. I don't know what's going on? And worse, I don't even know what to think; maybe he should start exploring his options. He doesn't even manage to get in the news like his other counterparts who front like they don't like paparazzi but secretly crave it. Guess that's the kinda person he is. Anyway, definitely ain't gonna touch Wicker Man with a sterilised fishing pole!

On to brighter things, huh? I didn't really see any film this weekend plus Independence Day break. Just got wrapped up in this new animation I'm seeing, Boondocks! It's absolutely, positively tha muthaf**king bomb! I so love this show cuz it appeals to my perceptions, I find it strange how I can relate to Huey and Riley's characters when they're disparaging ones. If y'all have seen this series holla back. I've been wondering how I missed it since it's been around since 2005. Oh well, maybe God's saving best for last.

About Spikyn and NYSC. I think he probably served in the Carribeans or something cuz if he'd had an experience like I'm having service wouldn't have finished soon enough!

Jackie and Jet Li? Have never really taken them seriously. I still like Romeo Must Die, though. Other films of theirs, I just watch for fun, no criticisms. Period. Capisce?

It seems almost all Mel Gibson movies make a cry baby outta me. Except Apocalypto of course. Others are Little Princess which absolutely got me wailing, I swear! Like everybody else I got moved with Titanic, Cinderella Man, Gladiator et al. A point worthy of note, though; I cried mostly when I was younger and impressionable. Now I'm weathered by life and more of a brute. It'd take a lot of doing to stir me up now. I'm saying this for the benefit of the chics who don't dig cry babies, hehehe. Hey akin, it seems you have a knack for cracking me up, huh? Otondo, very funny. it seems NYSC parlance is really nation-wide. Anyways how versed are you in the art of chess? I'm above average, if I do say so myself, and I used to be obssessed with this stuff. When I was in school, me and my equally obssessed friends would stay up late way into the am annihilating each other, when we have exams to write the next day. Can you believe that? I wouldn't if not for the simple reason that I'm the one possessing the memory. As for the Grand Masters, my favorites are Bobby Fischer and Karpov. As for da chosen one, tut tut tut, you wouldn't understand anything I reckon, cuz this thread has digressed way off Antonio, but the gist is my adaptor blew away due to a lightning strike which made me fear for dear life. Coherent now?
TV/Movies › Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(op): 3:09pm On Sep 25, 2007
Stranger than fiction? I've been MIA cuz the adaptor for my computer went, well, KABLAM!!!!! This was due to a lightning strike that produced a wicked surge that affected the adaptor but somehow missed the fuse in the plug. Now I'm using my pal's adaptor meanwhile. Is that stranger than fiction or what? Anyway I'm back for whatever that's worth. What do we have here,

With the examples of films that Liam was in, I think I might be getting a feel for what spikyn might have possibly likely meant. (Lawyers teach that the more the probables, the safer the assumption, prove them wrong) As the Jedi he was a teacher of sorts, same with Gangs of New York (though as a father) But before I'd go and bite my tongue off Spikyn comes in with the clincher. Ok, I guess you're kinda right about the trend spikyn, but I'm sure it's not deliberate or anything, just a trend that we see in things. No two directors can I remember that he worked with twice even. I'm having trouble remembering this one he was in about a scientist that has an unstable substance that he can use to disguise himself as practically anybody. Black something?

akin, men it's like you're reading my mind with this NYSC stuff. i really can't wait to have it behind me. To make matters worse, one crazy old maid has replaced our regular supervisor who hitherto really didn't care if we showed up or not as long as we don't get her into trouble. Now we're virtually in hell's worst spot. This crazy broad actually dished out queries to some poor fellas who missed some CD days in a row. If there was anything I was doing there asides playing chess I wouldn't mind her subterfuges but she forces me to come to compulsorily waste my time. I'm mad but mad like teethless dog. I detest fridays now. Thinking of a film for that, Corps member chronicles,

Maybe I've set an all time record for keeping quiet. Maybe it won't be for as long as iice might be away, tending to her 'baby' perhaps. Anyways, Mars Attack surely brings back memories too and believe me I've got quite little in my short life. When I saw that film first I probably didn't realise that half the cast were big shots. But from what iice says, I'm finding it hard to think of any other film that comes close to the number of stars in Mars Attack.

iice, thanks for making things clear about the change of directors in Rush Hour 3. Explains everything down pat, if you ask me. It is simply impossible to carry on the trend that a director of a previous film is making, as a new director because,

one; it's impossible, duh! and

two; every director wants to make an impression in his film, somewhat trying to make it their own little baby rather than groom some other director's baby.

Spikyn, I think very much so that The Illusionist and The Prestige were way too similar to have been released at approximately the same time. I also think I'd pick Ed Norton's Illusionist over the twisted Houdini tale, which was really very good too, I gotta admit.

About Liam Nielson, I don't quite follow you on his 'acting mentor roles in the last ten years or so' also cuz I don't think I go that way back, that long ago, the only movies I could tolerate were Power Rangers, Superman and the likes. Don't wanna know why y'all are fighting as long as you fight, you know. Liam in my mind always happened to look somewhat like Ralph Fiennes and I'm waiting for somebody to catch on to that and maybe find something to do with it. Maybe make, Archer's Kane and Abel or something. Meanwhile could you be clearer regarding what you mean?

Cheers!

Kevin Spacey, the white haired man! And not quite that old too. I like the guy a lot and think he's very much out of the spotlight nowadays but not like he's been much in it before anyway, more of a playmaker, producing and stuff, though I just know he's into that stuff like Billy Crystal is, but I don't know what I can credit him with except maybe The Big Kahuna with shorty, Devito. His friendship with Sean Penn is a plus for him and indeed anyone else cuz he's a mover and shaker too who's getting roles that fit him and win him stuff (since Mystic River and I'm Sam). Sean and Kevin did a film about Hollywood secrets or something like that a long time ago, I can't quite remember the title of the film.

Anyways I think I liked Kevin Spacey best in The Negotiator with Samuel L. Jackson and a couple of others but for now can't remember much of his films, do refresh my memory, y'all.
