Oh boy. My old man gave me a phone back in 2003. I didn't want it back then cuz I thought I'd definitely lose it and he'd kill me. I used to hate loading up my phone cuz the 'gimme just one minute' platoon will line up in two seconds flat.

Em, I swear I was gonna say something that made some sense but it disappeared from my memory.

I could never write a script. Impossible. It's too rigid and full of rules for me. I do not consider it creative writing. I think we have things twisted. I'm not a film maker and I dunno much about what it takes to make a good film. I only know what a good film is. I think scriptwriters are not supposed to be burdened with the creation of ideas too. It should be like having a stenographer who dictates everything an author says. A scriptwriter should just develop a story into scenes and sequences. That is what I feel. Good luck to you both sha

Going to start Breaking Bad and Homeland. Finished season one of Boardwalk Empire. Not bad but seemed too constricted to er the Boardwalk. It just seems like such a tiny place for such a powerful man to operate from.

Chronicle.

It lazed around for a pretty long time but became awesome in the last fifteen minutes. Fantastic effects. Shoulda seen it ages ago

Amadeus. I kinda loved Murray's performance as lead character (who wasn't Amadeus, the mind boggles). Sublime, subtle and delicate acting attributable to Ralph Fiennes. Tom Hulce (who played Amadeus) probably did everything right but that portrayal of Amadeus is something I don't want etched in my mind as I'm a serious fan.

Haven't been watching movies much. Just downloading the things
I know what cannibalism is. All I am saying is that God did not command anyone to eat human flesh. Most of the verses you are describing are detailing what would happen to people as a result of God's punishment. To pass it off as if God is in support of cannibalism is simply dishonest of you.

Unless you can show me a verse of scripture where God supports and commands people to eat other people or where cannibalism is a good thing in the bible, you are and will remain a liar.
Whether punishment or endorsement, those verses harsh small my brother. Ever heard of the saying 'I will not wish that even for my worst enemy'?

It'll be difficult to convince anyone that he isn't gay (which is what I believe) and it's possible to fall in love with the same sex without sexual connotations. But that being said, the album is fantastic, he or she.

I've been listening to the new album for two days now. Even though the last album was a mixtape, I think it is still the superior one. However, I have not learnt all the lyrics and I know I will like channel ORANGE better and better. But I'm a fan of this guy. I don't care about his sexuality. His songs connect with me. Always brooding and talking of imperfect perfections and perfect imperfections.
Christianity Etc › Re: The 5 Arguments That Killed Atheism. by vescucci(m): 7:41pm On Jul 13, 2012
ghostofsparta: I know you know the religionist position is harmful. An atheist may prove Dracula never existed because it's evidently a work of fiction, a religionist position would definitely be - because everyone thinks of Dracula as a demon who feeds on human blood, therefore he must exist (appeal to fear/emotion). The position of a religious apologist such as Davidylan and DeepDaftedSight would be - since vampire bats exists therefore it's very much likely Dracula must have existed. Now you see how that can be harmful to the kids.
When I said harmful, I was referring only to the belief in itself but not the results of the belief. The results of the belief is dependent on the human who holds the belief or the lack of it.

Not ALL religionist positions are harmful but you are right on a general level. For instance, the atheist will say the human mind has devised a means of coping with unfairness of the world by thinking up a grand scheme of karma and heaven and hell. The atheist will say this reduces the ability of man to properly take charge of his life and fate. I think this is true only somewhat.

But at the same time, having hope is not a weakness. It makes one hang in there and prevail. If everybody was atheist. I can assure you the suicidal rates would have been a hundred times higher.

The fruits of belief or the lack of it is something that can birth evil. An atheist believes he has no one to answer to. He will do any evil that he can get away with if he's so inclined. Satisfy any impulse with impunity. The religionist will listen to voices in his head or voices in the head of someone else on a pulpit and do evil with conviction and satisfy the madness of someone else. Bomb people and await for a reward. Betray the goodness of his heart to be 'faithful'.

Man is evil and good. Problem is we are influenced. Few people are really truly acting out of their own convictions and desire. I'm sure I've gone off topic by now

Kay 17: ^^
The atheist only needs something to hold on to and that is whatever the theist says. The theist has to explain/espouse his concept/idea of God, and that's what criticized.
True. But imagine this. Would you say that atheism would seize to exist if there were no religionists? This is not a leading question. I just wonder about it myself. Say you find yourself in a planet of androids who can't even comprehend anything beyond what can be seen or the effect felt. Would atheism become redundant?

Nairaland General › Re: At What Age Should A Boy Be Called A Man? by vescucci(m): 7:22pm On Jul 13, 2012
MyJoe: I think subjectivity is okay if we are talking about what you "consider" being a man. I understand that "there are men and there are boys". But this thread is about how people are addressed. In this wise, there is no subjectivity on the matter. A man is an adult male human being - that is, someone who is 18 years and over. Thus, the phrase, "a 21-year-old boy", which you sometimes find in Nigerian newspapers, is an oxymoron since there are no 21-year-old boys.

This problem started with European colonisers. They were loth to consider black men to be men, hence they referred to and treated them as boys. Our people inherited this and things have tended to remain so ever since. If 18 and above, especially 21 and above, and someone calls you a boy, you can politely tell the person so stop addressing you that way and educate them on the subject of how adult male human beings are addressed.
In short, gbam! How's it hanging, MyJoe?
Christianity Etc › Re: The 5 Arguments That Killed Atheism. by vescucci(m): 8:15pm On Jul 12, 2012
It's possible to prove something exists, no matter how hard it is. However, it's impossible to prove something does not exist no matter how ridiculous it is. This is probably layman logic, but I believe it makes sense. The atheist position is somewhat untenable. The religionists position is mutually exclusive bedlam. One position is harmless. The other is not.

Nairaland General › Re: At What Age Should A Boy Be Called A Man? by vescucci(m): 7:05pm On Jul 12, 2012
There's no specific age. Especially the upper limit. Maybe there's a lower limit. Many people are still children at 70. Basically many people got it right in my opinion. Being a man is being an adult male (which means taking responsibility for your actions) who has had some experience borne out of mistakes and wrong choices. That's mainly what I consider what being a man is

I wish I had energy to spend on nairaland like some of you. Everybody has an opinion, which everybody is entitled. Everybody is entitled to think the other person's opinion is trash, mostly as they are smiley But if we do not know a thing, let's try to act as such. It really freaks me out when people talk with so much certainty about things that are impossible to be certain about. We are all wandering in the dark, taking our chances with what seems the least ridiculous explanation rather than what is the most sensible explanation. This is just a call to put aside all the 'my penis is bigger than yours' merry-go-round.

Christianity Etc › Re: The 5 Arguments That Killed Atheism. by vescucci(m): 10:48am On Jul 10, 2012
Wow, though. Those arguments really murdered atheism oh. I mean, there's no wiggle room at all. Anything we cannot explain at the moment is ergo supernatural. And anything supernatural leads to the irrefutable conclusion that there is God.

I'm not an atheist but I always maintain that the most reasonable position one can ever take in matters of religion is atheism or if you don't wanna go nihilist, perhaps agnosticism. I'm deist. But the reason for me being so is for me alone. I don't expect it to make sense to anyone. If you say you dream dreams that come true, that by no means is not a phenomenon that everyone experiences. Most deja vu feelings come from dreams that we remember and are similar. It's when someone comes to me and says I dreamt that a meteorite will fall on the White House on October 4th and that indeed happens, that I'll believe in dreams' power. Nobody remembers that he dreamt a thing until that thing has already happened. Let's be honest with orselves

TV/Movies › Re: Japanese Animation (anime) Vs Western Animation by vescucci(m): 10:35am On Jul 08, 2012
I'm not sure Avatar is anime, strictly speaking. I'm not sure the differentiation Western animation and Japanese animation is accurate either since Japanese are involved in almost any kinda animation these days, but I suppose I get the idea.

Naturally anime have the better shows but not on an average because for every inspired anime, you have like 89 totally rubbish one, which is not the case for 'western animation'. The greatest awesome thing about anime (the good ones) is that it's not really for any particular age group. You can enjoy it at any age. Some of my favourite anime are:

Rurouni Kenshin
Death Note
Dragonaut (not because of all the jugs but they are a factor)
Cowboy Bebop
Naruto, naturally.

Full Metal Alchemist gets a honorable mention.

BTW, if you haven't seen the films, Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, you haven't seen what anime is capable of!
