Oh. Maybe I gave the wrong impression. Nobody in this thing have to be alive o. So edit to 'walked about on the planet' lol. Though to tell you the truth, I've been thinking, if one were to remove the one time successful directors, one would be hard pressed to come up with a list of 20 good directors and I want a list of 20 great directors. I'm thinking let's do 12. One dozen. It's catchier than 15, eh? You couldn't be more right. If they were only the ones alive, 10 sef would be hard, except you think Norbit is a giant stride in cinematic accomplishment. I still love you, JS. |

Jon Stewart is a nice jester for CNN. Sometimes there're more truths to his jokes than not. I love the dude. As to our lil project (ok big but it should be fun right?), I need the hierarchy. I'll make it simple sha. From the twentys and forty, divide them into four categories. First quarter, second quarter and so on. That would make it easier and less exact. I want the list to be a rating and not a roll call. As for the movies, let's just state them. Same for the actors. We can do explanations for the directors. That makes a lotta sense, I just hope some people are not sacred away. Ok. I need two more people to accept the challenge and I'll set the deadline. In order to spur people, I'll try to go first. Though this doesn't mean my format must be used. Gosh, I feel like a legislator. The only legislator. |
Ah. The memories. We used to things the way you just did right now sino. I can't bring my creative juices to fore nowadays cuz I'm exhausted on one hand and my ramblings would ring too true if I begin. I'm distressed, you see? Kay9 has gone for rehabilitation after he quit militancy. Ariblaze is in a coma after Thatcher committed hara kiri forgetting her master/lover was on board. Bluespice just opened up a new restaurant where they serve lobster in the afternoon and whatever you want after midnight. Whatever you want. Sisi is truly and awesomely MIA. Your guess is as good as mine. Tubabie has had a dozen kids after she married the guinness world record holder for highest sperm count, mojiesther got a job as the new front for a ghastly mafioso outfit recently hiding in western Nigeria, epi committee suicide after we drew 2-2 with Tunisia. Actually she lost a bet. To her ex. She thought she'd die first than pay that creep. If I missed any absentee, it should be enough impetus to come here and have a go at me. |
Hehe. I'm still waiting o. |
What's up with that tintin project iice? It's like they've given up or something. And that Matarese circle thingie? Does it take so long to make films or what the hell? |
Ah. My thread states my favorites as at 2007. Steven Spielberg. Martin Scorsese. Quentin Tarantino. Francis Ford Coppola. James Cameron. Peter Jackson. Clint Eastwood. Now, I would add George Lucas. Stanley Kubrick and my man Christopher Nolan. And Brad Bird too. These guys are not in order. It's only Steven that I absolutely love the most and I don't have to think 'why do I like this'. His last film didn't blow me away though it was good. That's because I've lost the ability to be awed by action. Plus an old professor surviving an atomic explosion in fridge sounds Tom and Jerry.Asides this, all his films were awesome to me. As for the rest, they're not, I think responsible for 30% of my favorite between them. I chose them cuz they constantly deliver above average. Well, except Ford and Brad Bird. All theirs that I've seen were off the hook. I wanna make a suggestion in the light of this. If you don't mind Max, you be the arbiter of sorts. We 'publish' our jointed favorite films, favorite actors (and actresses. I hate the word but I don't wanna be misunderstood) and favorite directors. I'm not sure as to the number. I suggest 20 directors. 20 actors, and actresses. 40 films. Decisions would be easier to make this way as you won't be juggling two guys trying to choose who to throw in. I also suggest a weighted average. This means order of presentation counts. Maybe I should handle it sef. I need to get my mind of some things. I suggest a deadline of entries 10 days after we're agreed to do this. Some crooks will vote. This thread has it's posters. Not all entries will count as this is this thread's official 'publication' lol. Bite me |

Na yab or na command cuz I don wake o. Lol |
The guy's forgettable. He wants to keep reminding you. 'Hey, look at me! I'm the cool Indian dude who's responsible for this and I'm cooler than both Naveen Andrews and the other Indian dude in Heroes. Yeah!'. That's why he does cameos. Well, you've certainly seen his best work then. You're one justified mama. |
@Max. Lol. The wacky brothers get carried away sometimes. I got a hold of an original script. Maybe the comic's but I can't be sure. It reads like a normal movie script except this wasn't the work of the wacky bros. I prefer theirs even though the original wasn't too bad. There will be blood, hehe. We should win oscars for finishing the film sef. I remember the way the film started: I thought there was an audio problem till I noticed nobody's mouth had moved anyway. I still managed to enjoy it sha cuz I felt like I was an invisible presence among them, observing them. I like the looks of the guy who played the pastor. I liked him in Little Miss sunshine. See iice. Sharp gal taking the easy way out. Hehe. |
@Scofield. All I can really say is eya. I'm a troubled soul like you. The way I see it, we've lost all hope of finding absolute truth. All we're left with is probable truth and our own convictions. Everyone will choose the path the makes the most sense to him. It's as simple as that. And dude, you might get on some people's nerves talking about Jesus that way. I'd have said we don't do religion here but rant na rant. Now before anyone yabs me, let me yab myself. I know I said about the ace being back and the ace reviving this here thread etc etc. Well, the ace is sorry. The ace will do better when there're more humans over here. Damn! @ibkaye, wtf? |
I forgot to mention all the logical flaws in Matrix Reloaded but any film purporting some kind of foreknowledge is bound to have its dose of paradoxes and loops. Matrix Revolutions opened a can of worms and failed to deliver the perfect ending the trilogy deserved .It was wrought with all the wrong ingredients. Mismatched scenes, brand new characters that lacked 'umph', the old characters seemed tired and slow, we were out of the matrix more than ever which is not cool and finally they changed that lovely oracle who had a penchant for lung cancer. The new one was, Scary. Did I mention that I hate the Architect and think his 'explanations' create more questions than it answers. And what was the point of all that fighting and metal grinding if we all knew it was futile and Neo was our only real hope. And some stupid hope he was, based on the puke of an errant code in the software. Please! The only justification for the film was that the trilogy had to end. I don't think they took their time. I was looking forward to that installment hoping to fill in all the gaps but Animatrix did a far better job. I rate the travesty 40%. Total let down. |
Just saw your post Kunmi. I'm pretty frustrating sometimes. I was actually kicking my brother's ass in some game. Aha back to the review. I rate the first installment 90% by the way. The matrix reloaded has what I thought was the most catchy title ever. The film itself had found some form of stability and the real journey sort of begun. Neo had ascended to attain his full potential and the fulfillment of the electronic prophecy was set in motion. This installment went further with kickass fight scenes. The famous park fight. The one with the twins. Etc. The story didn't have as much depth as the first one but that can be excused as the installment was just a cog in the overall story. The rivalry between Agent Smith and Neo became stronger and more exquisite. The film quite simply could have been carried solely on the weight of the technical prowess and imagination of the special effects. I rate this baby 75% |
I won't be surprised if we all said the same things about The Matrix trilogy. Wetin them dey call the first one sef? Just the matrix, as if they didn't know there'd be more installments. The was really the most revolutionary film of the last decade. I cannot count how many more films employed the 3d slow mo thingie afterwards. It was like Hollywood had learned a new trick and indeed it had. Though the major idea of the film isn't that new (the dark city anyone?) but those wacky brothers really made it into something believable. Asides from I, robot, I can't think of many sci-fi films that merge futuristic advancement with the basic human spirit of freedom. It was really something. It had something for everyone. A raw romance, agitating suspense, fast paced (actually slowed down) action, prophetic bull for people who'd believe anything, epic journey both within and without the matrix, great dialogue, great characters and great costumes (though somebody thought dark shades look good on absolutely everybody) and pure other worldly effects. It's hard to enjoy the film the same way I did all those years ago but it's still awesome. Just think how all those people who first saw Clash of the Titans felt. |
JeSoul, you take me too seriously. I love you too, lol. I kid most of the time. Jk, I was talking about Wall-E in the context of storytelling with little words. I don't it's the peak of CGI or something. Are you guys being good sports and waiting for me have first go at The Matrices cuz I said I would? Now that I'm about to start I'm really wondering how to start. I'm only feeling like doing the first one and leaving the other two but no matter, here we go. Next post though |

Hehe. Putting out the feelers and probes, are we? It's funny you picked that film cuz it was my favorite film for two years. Then the ladykillers, then V for Vendetta etc. I think I might be misunderstood. Sure I love good dialogue but the films that stay with me don't talk talk talk. Have you seen Wall-E? Or A.I.? Or Rashomon. So we can begin dissecting the matrix trilogy. I'll go first. At each installment in turn. Hang on to your hats, lol. |
Loved which movie? I'm have to find a way to see that QT film especially as it's been touted his best. |
Ryan Reynolds na! The guy in two guys and a girl. That's a sitcom. Also Van Wilder. Something School. And I can bet Gamine's new found crush is cuz of his new film, The Proposal. Now you remember? Lol, Max. Have mercy on M. Night. The few times he gets it right more than makes up for the times he gets it wrong. Plus it seems you picked his worst movies to watch. Seen Lady in the water? Or the one with Willis and L. Jackson? |
I really don't know why Ang Lee went for Hulk. I've never liked or considered Hulk as a superhero so I may be biased for not liking the movie much. But that's what I meant by his width sha. Most directors have comfort zones. One wonders what Lee's is. JeSoul makes me out as a academy ass kisser. I hate their guts. I think there's too much politicking going on behind the scenes but they get things right more often than not though. I like great dialogue. I like great innuendoes more. The films that stick with me don't have too much talk. Take the matrix for example. On the surface, great dialogue but I actually feel like slapping people when they talk. It's as if everyone was an old english professor. The only real reason I loved that film so much was Hugo Weaving. Phenomenal that guy. So much so that I like V for Vendetta (my favorite dialogue) cuz of this guy. He didn't feature enough to steal the show in LOTR. Max, I want a list of films that made you cry. I wanna compare with my own. I no dey cry again o. Na when I dey small and impressionable I dey cry. I've since grown a cynical beard and a distrusting heart. I kid. I wailed while watching Little Princess. Bawled and sobbed and sniffed and wept and cried. I'll seek it out to see again. That way I'll know how far gone I am. Daniel Day is upset that you took a project he literally adjusted his life to carry out with levity, JeSoul. Honestly, that guy alone can carry any movie. What a guy. He belongs to the age of the greats gone by. |
I can't sleep. But you guys are night prowlers. I think people confuse not liking a story with not liking the way it's told. You only need to think the many synopses you've read and were wondering how on earth a director would make it spin.Think of films like Memento, Fight club and Castaway to get my meaning. The point is, great directing and great acting can make a seemingly stupid and unbelievable story really cool. Shoddy acting and directing can ruin a great story. Where I'm leading to is Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain. I like Lee for three reasons: his unassuming first steps, his later found width and his depth. He's really an american story. Anyways, Lee is one of a few that makes his movies seem like paintings. I frankly don't like too much talking in my movies. My favorites are oldies, onir and minimalist films. That way I can concentrate on the things that really matter, like the story. I'm homophobic. I'm the way I am. I won't apologise. But gay people in my opinion were made that way too. No conscious decision goes into it he you ask me. In that light, Brokeback Mountain haters should enjoy the storytelling even if they can't stomach the story. Just like a nazi might enjoy Schindler's list and we all enjoy District 9. |
Oh, I'll watch my steps alright. Where's my unicorn horn, venus' chastity belt and Obedsanjo's banjo? Only afterwards can you get the antidote my friend |
I know we probably like Bale for different reasons but no biggie. Just what I need. Another female up in here. Drooling over another dude. Can we please drool in private. Next time someone's gonna slip and break his spinal cord cuz the floor is slick with spittle from so much drooling. I like M. Night. o. Mainly cuz he's not afraid to get his hands burned. Though he seems to be blurred on when 'deep themes' become deep crap. Hi everyone. |

Well well, look who's back from the longest break ever. I bet you're brand new. iice, that wonderful news about Lobo. I'm a fan of both Lobo and Guy. We'll see what a mix they make. About the affair btw Marvel and Disney, I can't say I'm giddy with joy. All I'm thinking is 'is Disney that rich or is Marvel that cheap'. Are you sure it's not some form of merger? Oh, I just hope Ironman doesn't start singing in the rain with his foes momentarily mesmerised and singing along. Hope it's Disney that gets darker for it. I wish it was a studio like Miramax that swallowed Disney up. |
I hope you're joking cuz if you aren't, then you must be insane. You want the heart of a jackal? One's better off heartless than with his. Hehe, Blaze. I hope you and Thatcher grow old together. VERY OLD |
Truth be told, Karma was oodling over Idris way way before I heard anybody else mention him. In fact it was way before he started getting media attention. Too bad he isn't stock. Karma'd have become rich by now. Sorry, richer. Since the trouble with people on the side is that they never wanna remain on the side. Take Gollum to the Niagara falls. Throw the ring he gave you in it. Gollum dives after ring. Dies. You marry Idris! A simple plan, no? |
