I'm trying to understand something here, if a client give a job to a contractor for X amount, and the contractor fails to deliver, and the client asks for refund, is it the exact amount paid that should be refunded bearing in mind inflation, eg if I pay 10m when cement was 2350 to complete a bungalow and the contractor fails, won't it be absurd for the contractor to refund me same 10m, when I can no longer complete the project with the said 10m due to inflation

I wouldn't even take a duplex structural design job for less than 100k. Because you take those calculations ANYWHERE.

I had a particular client I was working for on a new project, he took me to his village to see another on going project and make little inputs here and there. mehn I saw things, column right in the centre of the sitting room because of poor slab job, staircase risers as much as 350mm, some 400mm and I'm not exaggerating, some rooms without windows, step down into the kitchen was 400mm and they didnt even care to divide it into two 200mms, I nearly fell stepping into the kitchen. I didn't even feel safe the few minutes I was inside the structure. he proposed I take over the job, I REJECTED THE OFFER.

Actually it is their job to make sure every house is habitable and will be in compliance with all the codes, safety, well being of the occupants etc.

They are not supposed to be rubber stamping building plans.

Well, atleast that's what similar authorities do in a sane environment. Some places even after the back and forth with the council/city engineers.. the neighbors have to agree for that house to be built before approval is granted.

majority of houses are habitable, the question should be "are they enjoyable and comfortable for the price spent"?

The government in a way might be aiding all this poor design, poor construction and all.

sometimes the terrible ones are denied approval. It's not even their job to begin to analyse drawings. Na the owner go suffer am. You pay the number 1 man 45k, how much do even even pay labourers sef?

Well, many Autocad users pose as Architects these days.

I did my IT in a govt parastatal where building plans are approved, tens of drawings come to the office for approval on a daily. the kind of designs I saw eh, you'd begin to have mercy on the future occupant. I remember convincing a client who came to collect his approved drawing to abandon the design after I modelled the interior and showed him the terrible flow. why do people pay peanuts and get a bad design for a project that would cost millions?

45k for a duplex with (A.S.E.M), ok o, I rather do it free of charge and have peace of mind than go that low, how much does it cost to print, bind and stamp 4 copies. well....

To me It is art. It is an expression and impression of awe. It gives an otherwise simple building character and I boldly say culture and identity.

History will be kind to the building like the Pyramids of Egypt. When the Pyramids were being built, the people saw them odd. Three thousand years later we all know how they turned out. Tall roof is an African impression. I love it.

Bros whether art or not, there are structures that majority of persons would disapprove of immediately on first sight. Whether we like old and classic things, we must improve and conform to newer trends. I don't see Egypt building another pyramids in the near future. Imagine still using Nokia 3310 simply because "the battery na everlasting". I prefer 21st century Chinese structures to medieval Egyptian structures. How much does Egypt generate from it's pyramids, then compare it to how much Dubai generate from it's Burj khalifa. Even if my grandpa built one of those structures you posted, I go still knock am down build better structure, Can't be driving 1920 rolls Royce wey no get power steering and current tech simply because "classic" when they are better recent cars

you call it lack of ambition. I spent five years with my boss and not for once did anyone request for this. The people who can do this type of work are old welders. There are alternatives to this

it's not like you'd have more than 1 of this in a building. It's just for emergency. I know emergency exits in public buildings that haven't been used for decades

Nice burglary design. This seems to be in Cameroon and not Nigeria going by the phone number indicated on the picture. The one I saw in Nigeria was for big entrance doors used mostly by boutique and showrooms.

why does everyone have to pass through the sitting room to access the rest of the building. big rooms, tiny wardrobes, tiny kitchen store, put shelves and you can barely enter the store again. master bathroom intruding sitting space. poor planning and space management.

Bricks are still an economical alternative, especially with the way cement price have gone haywire. A good architect can come up with a great design which combines conventional hollow blocks and bricks.
For the dirtied bricks in that fence, all that is needed is water and strong brush to clean off the mess. Bricks are cheaper to maintain in the long run.

a regular pressure washer used by car wash guys would do the job stress free.

I decided to suspend my 3bedroom(I earlier brought the plan here for criticisms) and start with the 2bedroom bungalow/1bedroom BQ, attached is the floor plan and the type of roof I plan to do.

The ground is a solid one and since I dont intend to do a high pitched roof or parapet, do I need to introduce pillars?

mirror the 2 bedroom side so that the living room and dinning swaps with the bedrooms, thereby achieving cross ventilation in the bedrooms. repeat same for the 1 bedroom side and you are good to go. if you can send me the CAD file, I can help you modify it

I'd prefer the bedroom on the right to be at the extreme end so it can get cross ventilation, then the game room can come closer to the dinning, the other bedroom on the left, he can mirror the bathroom to come inside that way the bedroom has 2 external walls that way you achieve cross ventilation and dual exterior view cross ventilation

the balcony on the first floor is not detailed enough but from what I can deduce here, the balcony extends to the master bedroom window. that's not acceptable. with that window accessible from the balcony, the master bedroom has lost its privacy. secondly, there is something confusing about the number of your staircase risers and landing. maybe a section cutting through the staircase would clarify things. thirdly the bedrooms aren't showing wardrobes, the architect so include the wardrobes in the design right now so you know whether to adjust the windows. I've seen wardrobes and kitchen top cabinet installed and it's covering almost half of the window, some plans don't even make provision for entertainment unit only to end up looking for where to install the TV after construction has already advanced, some end up installing it behind the window. in fact attached all furnitures from beds to cabinets and sofas so you see whether it's obstructs anything so you can make the adjustments now.

Please i have few questions
1) are the batteries brand new or fairly used?
2) Can the 2kv Inverter carry a deepfreezer and other house appliance?
3) I get up to 5hrs Electricity in a day from PHCN, so i'm thinking of getting Inverter without solar panels ,will that be enough to charge the batteries to 100% capacity?
4) If i get Inverter system without solar panels and after some years i decide to add solar panels, do i need to change the inverter or that same inverter will work with solar system?

I'm not an installer but from my own lay man's knowledge
1) can't tell. but make sure it's tall tubular batteries. they are better
2) depends on the wattage of your appliances. same appliances with same capacity eg microwave/ fridge can have different wattage, so the lesser the wattage the better. you can have a single 200watts bulbs consuming more than 10 5watts led lights. mind you for optimum battery performance you only use 50% of the battery juice. I can't lay my hands on the formula for determining inverter and battery size, for starters you should write down all the appliances you'd run on the inverter, sum up the total wattage of all of them and the time each of them is supposed to run.
3) if the 5hrs isn't during the peak sunny period, get solar panels.
4) you don't need to change the inverter. just buy the panels together with a solar charge controller.

Noted. But, I think that's the wrong way of soak away/ septic tank construction.

The two chamber system does the job better. The septic tank chamber receives all waste (solid and liquid) and continous decomposition/bacterial breakdown occurs in same chamber.

The soak away part receives all waste water via a linking pipe from the septic tank. The pipe is placed high such that only when the water reaches that level will it trickle in. And, this chamber usually has spaces in the block work to allow the waste water seep into the soil.

Having two chambers to receive waste water is more of a waste of resources and serves no particular purpose rather, might just worsen or complicate things not to talk of the waste of resources (materials and money).

As long as the pipe linking the septic tank and soak away chambers is placed properly (high and slanted), you're good to go. Also, there must be spaces on at least on section of the block work in the soak away chamber.

Anything else is a waste of resources in my opinion and an unnecessary overbuild.

the septic tank is supposed to receive only solid waste from the toilet. liquid waste containing soap and oils from kitchen and bathroom should go directly to the soak away because it inhibits the growth of bacteria that breaks down the solid waste in the septic tank if piped directly into it. when the septic tank gets the the apportioned level, the sludge settles on the bottom and the effluent flows into the soak away.

even at that, we know some officers can be troublesome for no reason, the only paper I have apart from the registration papers is the allocation paper. The official old govt number is still engraved in various parts of the car

Would customs demand customs papers from a state government auctioned Peugeot 406, then registered and converted to personal use?

I have a 406 I would like to enlist on Uber, I feel it's poor on fuel although I haven't done a proper experiment, it used to overheat so the fan was connected directly, does the direct connection have any effect on fuel economy. also the fuel guage can just start blinking out of the blues even with 10-15litres in it. I want it to be in top shape before using it for e hailing. how do I know whether it's i4 or v6 engine. where is your workshop located?

Its a new building and has very nice qualities(Good houses are not much here based on the environment .. the town is just developing)... But the dampness is making me worried...
