PoliticsAsari-dokubo, Ateke, Egberipapa Oppose Amaechi In Rivers by viczing(op): 3:05pm On Nov 04, 2014
as over-ambitious politicians hire ex-militants as thugs
PORT HARCOURT—IN Rivers State, the ex-militant leaders are clearly doing battle with Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who is leading All Progressives Congress, APC, opposition against Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, representatives in the state.
Leader of the Niger-Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, had not hidden his disdain for Governor Amaechi, but he is more interested in what happens at the national level than what Amaechi is doing in Rivers State.
Sometime ago, Ateke Tom, who is from the same area in Rivers State as the First Lady, Mrs.Patience Jonathan, flooded the streets of Port Harcourt with posters signifying his intention to run for governor.
Dokubo-Asari
But nothing has been heard from him since the sale of nomination forms by the political parties for the governorship primaries started.
Sobomabo Jackrich, aliasEgberipapa, is another ex-militant leader that has been actively involved in the politics of the state. Rumours were rife at a time that he was going to contest for the chairmanship of his Asari Toru Local Government Area.
It is not certain if he still has the aspiration, but he has a platform, Kengema Unity Forum, that cannot be ignored by PDP when it comes to election-related matters.
Egberipapa’s group secured a Federal High Court judgment in Port Harcourt, February 18, which nullified the appointment of Justice Agumagu as acting Chief Judge of the state by Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
A governorship aspirant on the platform of PDP, Mr NyesomWike, visited Egberipapa as Supervising Minister of Education in April, to drum up support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan. The visit echoed the significance of Egberipapa in the emerging political order in the state.
Over-ambitious politicians hire ex-militants as thugs
DESPITE embracing the amnesty programme, some of the ex-militants in Rivers have been recruited as political thugs by politicians, who want to assume power by hook or crook, in the state.
Kidnapping, robbery, terrorism, among other crimes, are gradually returning to the state with the involvement of ex-militants in politics, as they see it as an avenue to regain access to guns.
They have continuously indulged in acts that had, on different occasions, heated up the polity, causing undue riots, obstructing and disrupting programmes of opposing groups to favour the political aspiration of their paymaster.
Last year, the ex-militant turned thugs were mobilized to invade the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly to the bewilderment of the Rivers people. Similarly, the same boys were used to disrupt a political gathering at a notable hotel in Port Harcourt on September 23.
Worry
A concerned youth leader, who spoke toNiger Delta Voiceon condition of anonymity, bemoaned the violence ex-militants have brought into politics in the state.
He said the boys who submitted their guns to the Federal Government were building a new ammunition base with the support of their sponsors, who are desperate to achieve their political ambition.
His words: “The ex-militants are now back in the business. This time, as political thugs. They are now into obstructing and stopping political activities that are not in favour of their sponsors. Their activities heat up the whole system.
“They are causing violence and will increase malpractice in the forthcoming election. There is fear that they will cause tension at the 2015 polls in the state.”
He suggested that the boys be re-orientated before the general election in the state, else the whole thing may end in a war of sort.

PoliticsSuffering Of Fela Kuti At Hands Of Obj & Buhari. Say No To Wicked Men Come 2015 by viczing(op): 9:01am On Nov 03, 2014
In 1977, Fela and the Afrika '70 released the album
Zombie, a scathing attack on Nigerian soldiers using
the zombie metaphor to describe the methods of the
Nigerian military. The album was a smash hit and
infuriated the government, setting off a vicious attack
against the Kalakuta Republic, during which one
thousand soldiers attacked the commune. Fela was
severely beaten, and his elderly mother was thrown
from a window, causing fatal injuries. The Kalakuta
Republic was burned, and Fela's studio, instruments,
and master tapes were destroyed. Fela claimed that
he would have been killed had it not been for the
intervention of a commanding officer as he was
being beaten. Fela's response to the attack was to
deliver his mother's coffin to the Dodan Barracks in
Lagos, General Olusegun Obasanjo's residence, and
to write two songs, "Coffin for Head of State" and
"Unknown Soldier", referencing the official inquiry
that claimed the commune had been destroyed by an
unknown soldier.

In 1984, Muhammadu Buhari's government, of which
Kuti was a vocal opponent, jailed him on a charge of
currency smuggling which Amnesty International and
others denounced as politically motivated.[13]
Amnesty designated him a prisoner of conscience,
[14] and his case was also taken up by other human
rights groups. After 20 months, he was released from
prison by General Ibrahim Babangida.

PoliticsPro-tambuwal Legislators Plot Ihedioha's Removal, by viczing(op): 9:38pm On Nov 01, 2014
http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/pro-tambuwal-legislators-plot-ihediohas-removal/192895/

There appears to be a split between Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and the Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, as lawmakers loyal to former suspects the latter and are plotting to unseat him.
The pro-Tambuwal group is now ready to proceed with moves to unseat Ihedioha who, they allege, is being supported by the Presidency to reconvene the House to upstage his boss.
It was reliably learnt that the move against the Deputy Speaker has reached an advanced stage as an impeachment motion against him is being drafted ‎that would be backed by many members.
The move has the backing of many PDP members from the north and all APC members.
"We are alarmed at moves by the deputy speaker to reconvene the House somewhere this week in order to remove the speaker.
"Therefore, we have resolved that Ihedioha will be the first casualty if he dares reconvene the House because he has been surviving because of Tambuwal's protection."

PoliticsWhy Presidency Is Resolute On Tambuwal's Exit by viczing(op): 9:08pm On Nov 01, 2014
The controversy generated by the eventual defection of the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is the majority party, is yet to abate as investigation revealed that the Presidency is determined to end his leadership of the house.
A top intelligence source within the Presidency said that apart from the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan swore to an oath to defend the constitution, Tambuwal "cannot eat his cake and expect to have it".
The source said that the Speaker, by his latest action, which supports his antecedents, has shown to be an ingrate and an unreliable politician.
"Do you know he has been moving in circus and political gerrymandering from APP to ANPP, DPP to PDP and now APC? These are the political parties he has been member of and you think such a person is reliable? He is just an opportunist, waiting to jump where he thinks his bread is buttered", the source said.

PoliticsEbola: FG Flays 22 Countries For Stigmatizing Nigerians by viczing(op): 7:46pm On Oct 31, 2014
http://www.punchng.com/news/ebola-fg-flays-22-countries-for-stigmatizing-nigerians/

The Federal Government has criticised 22 countries for stigmatizing Nigerians over the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, which it said had been cared for, prompting the World Health Organisation to give the country a clean bill of health.
It said the continued stigmatizing of Nigerians was unacceptable and named the countries that had been discriminating against Nigerian nationals to include Bahrain; Côte d’Ivoire; Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Cuba, Gabon, China, Egypt and Hong Kong.
Others are Kuwait; Qatar; Sri Lanka; Turkey; Zambia; Mauritania; São Tomé & Principe; South Africa; United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Namibia, Seychelles and South Sudan.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Aminu Wali, who protested the incident, at a meeting with members of the Diplomatic Corps on Friday in Abuja, also cautioned Heads of Mission for making what he called inflammatory and reckless statements against the FG on matters of domestic policy.
According to him, such an act is “unacceptable interference in Nigeria’s domestic affairs, such envoys are advised to respect the sensitivity of Nigerians and the mood of the times.”
Wali said, “It is disappointing and troubling that in spite of the decisive measures taken by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the subsequent positive declaration by WHO, some countries have regrettably, chosen to flout the WHO rules on the (Ebola) virus by adopting deliberate policies of stigmatization and discrimination against Nigerians simply because we were unfortunately exposed to the virus.
“I will like to make it categorically clear that the continued discrimination and profiling of Nigeria is not acceptable to the government and people of Nigeria.”
The minister said it was intriguing that it took some time for the international community to acknowledge the valiant and effective measures taken by the government at all levels, to contain the spread of the Ebola virus.
Wali observed that the outbreak of epidemics like the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and the Avian Influenza, did not attract stigmatization against the affected countries.
Members of the Diplomatic Corps at the meeting, raised various issues of concern, ranging from the 2015 elections, to the Boko Haram insurgency, all of which the minister addressed, assuring them that the FG was working hard to contain the security challenge in the country.
He explained that the government was doing everything possible to ensure that the forthcoming election is transparent and credible, and called for the support of the international communities to make the electoral process, a success.
