what duration? Modified duration of zeros does not always equal to its maturity. Macaulay duration of zeros is simply weighted average of timing of cash flow and since cash flow is only received once at maturity, then it must be the case that Mac duration of zeros equal to Maturity. |

odum desmond: If you are intelligent enough, you would discover that that purported letter could not have emanated from a man in solitary confinement that claims he has been confined to darkness and no form of contact to the world outside his prison cell. How did he know what transpires outside, how come he was even quoting people verbatim? Did you not notice he was distorting facts?did you also notice has was stating events a man in solitary confinements couldn't ve been aware of, giving accurate names, time, date and events. Who told him Dasuki is now NSA? Did he attend same secondary school with Cardinal John Onayikan? Where? I know whereas Onayikan schooled at Kabba in Kogi state, Charles and Henry his brother couldn't have also schooled there, between him and Henry who is older? The letter claims Henry is his younger brother, but we all know that is white lie. Its only a low brain that will accept that crap of a letter hook line n sinker! You are too dumb for your own age. A letter does not have to be written by someone in his own writing before it is termed his letter. A letter could be written by someone whom you've given instructions to, this may include family members, your lawyer or your friends who you trust to divulge the information you've provided them regarding your experience without twisting facts. Those who have elderly Uncles can tell you a bit about writing a letter for someone who couldn't do it by themselves. The fact that you chose to dwell on where the letter was written rather than it's content immediately shows you aren't someone to be taken seriously Ignoring the truth for political gains marks you as one of the worst people this country can ever produce. I don't honestly see how you are much different from the same people dragging this country through dearth of shame. By your own suggestions, this man must be lying about the torture he is currently being subjected to by the hands of the federal government even though he mentioned that he welcomes a fact finding visit?...Do people normally lie about being tortured? Has this man been found guilty of an offense? If No, why is he still being kept in a solitary confinement? 11 Likes |

seanet01: Oxford graduate, can you tell us how to use "standstill"? Not surprised you don't understand what the words "Technically speaking" meant. And you would actually have us believe you saw the four walls of a school, well perhaps you are counting your local primary school education? Technically speaking does not mean they will do it, dumb-as..ss. It meant, their nuclear arsenal is big enough. Big enough to an extent where the entire middle east could get sunk. Also, given Israel have these things hoisted on submarines, and i will bet each one pointed towards a Muslim country, they do own the capacity to conduct the deadliest nuclear attacks not seen since Hiroshima. I also get that you may not understand how to use the words "Standstill". You haven't fought someone to a standstill when you've agreed to an unconditional ceasefire while the other party is bent on seeing certain conditions being met before they stop whooping your arze. If Israel were to really descend it's fury on Lebanon, not much of Lebanon will be left. Learn some history before you foam in the mouth about the things you have absolutely no idea on. I'd bet a few years down the line, a few of you bad history teachers would have posterity believe Hamas fought Israel to a standstill in year 2012. |

pretty_boi: seanet01: Israel can easily take out wetin? The same Israel that guerilla force fought to a standstill in Lebanon? You are a joke. What military capacity does Iran have when Israel has the ability to inflict 10 times the effect of Hiroshima with over 200 nuclear bombs, 85 of which are mounted on submarines and the rest on Jericho ICBMs? Technically speaking, Israel can sink the entire middle east in a single night if it wishes to. And someone who spoke of "Fighting to a standstill" does not seem to understanding what standstill means or how it could be used. |

aurenflani: This is plain Silly. Militarily, America, more than any single point in its 236 years history, is at its highest pinnacle of war fighting capacities. Comparing Iran who owns a couple of gun boats is just plain silly! US not striking Iran is due to Iran's strategic location along the straights of Homus where a huge percentage of the world's supply of oil passes through. Certainly nothing to do with Iran's military ability, which even Israel can easily take out. |

patoski96: Doing a business with un-progressive result year in year out,Get off from that mindset,Why do you think Nigerian Government keeps calling (Ngozi Okonjo) cos they know she's got contact and experience to champion the Economic decision-making of this country, If I know that a cambrigde grad is exposed well enough to have worked in the place you mentioned and hv a blue print to increase My company's financial status positively then why would I settle for less ? What we are discussing here is an IT firm(don't want to mention name) with a capacity to do more than a mere 50k salary You are missing the point. Simple economical reasoning gives that your total revenue is maximized at the point where your marginal revenue from an input equals your marginal cost of the input. If the extra benefits you can obtain in all possible scenarios, from hiring a Cambridge grad does not in the very least equal to the extra cost to you, then proceeding to hire that extra worker will only guarantee you economic losses. Why should you pay a premium for someone who is only going to be able to deliver the same output as someone else in which case the differences between both workers exist only in terms of the Universities attended by each individual? If you have three secretaries already, would you pay 5 times as much for another secretary simply because he or she had a Phd from MIT? |

2pence: Its an IT firm based in Lagos and the contract after probations states that the salary will be increased to 80 thousand Naira for an executive Manager Let's say you are an employer of labour and on average, you make a tidy profit of 1 million a month. let's say I'm a Cambridge grad with experience at the world bank. Assume you have a position in your company for which a local hire would be very willing to accept a salary of 60k and your profits will not increase significantly regardless who does the job. How much would you be willing to pay me, a Cambridge grad in the place of a Unilag grad to do the same job? |

I do not want to mention names here, but I do know that some churches, especially in Lagos are hiring private security guards, OPC members or police to protect them physically during Sunday services. So Churches now hire OPC members to use Juju for protection....how hilarious! I wonder what is then being preached in those churches? .. 1 Like |

all4naija: Did you know such action was taken in the past only for the militant groups to use it as a means to bring in weapons for attacking Israel? This is simply an issue of trust to both sides. Both sides bear responsibilities, but i will argue that given Israel's military backbone, its well funded structure and it's position to negotiate terms, it bears more responsibility in that region than Hamas does. Israel has however shown it can't be trusted which makes things a lot more complicated. Time and over again, it has promised to live up to its responsibility only to astound everyone and the international community with an announcement of construction of new settlements. Before Hamas leader was killed which resulted into the conflict, he had received the draft of a permanent truce agreement with Israel, which included mechanisms for maintaining the cease-fire in the case of a flare-up between Israel and the factions in the Gaza Strip....and then he got struck by an Israeli missile? and then everyone wanted Hamas to keep quite about that? What would Israel have done if Barak was struck by an Iranian Missile? Obviously, everyone will blame the Iranians and would support Israel for fighting back......but when Israel kills a Hamas leader, everyone expected Hamas to keep quite and simply take it in the azz....and that is not double standards? 1 Like |

Yet you didn't present that in your alluded comment before claiming Palestinians are innocent(to so extent) all rather your tantamount violent Hamas group as the representation of the Palestinian people. It only speaks of your Topsy-turvy approach and comments The point i was making was simple and straight forward. Israel has an obligation to stop the occupation of lands belonging to the Palestinians and allow them to make their own choices with due regards to their Human rights. More than 40 years after, Israel despite agreeing to these resolution has refused to meets its international obligation and the people of Palestinians have continued to live their lives in despair and oppression while being simultaneously denied Justice and labelled terrorists. The fact that PLO opted out then opted in to the agreement is non issue and completely missed the point. 1 Like |

It is hard to see how this will have effect in many of the territories occupied before that act! Israel cannot simply choose to be a signatory to what it pleases. There are international obligations it must fulfill. What sort of world do we live in where Israel is being allowed to operate by a different set of rules where it can simply choose what it wants to be signatory to regardless of the fact that other's country's choices are involved? I think it takes the voices of the people to be represented. Indeed, Hamas only created scenario for more death of innocent people without coming up with any formidable solution. Such leadership is deem to failure and the group have never shown anything meaningful than violence. My question was framed as a rhetorical question. 76 out of 132 seats is a majority, you can't simple ignore that! Many countries branded Hamas a terrorist organization....except Russia, Norway, Turkey, China and majority of Egyptians. dayokanu: When was the law put in place? Security Council resolution 242 was set up to find a lasting peace to the Israel-Arab wars. And it specifically requires two basic principles of Israel: (i) Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict; (ii) Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force. Russia and many other countries have made several moves to make these resolutions enforceable....all of which were blocked by the United States of course. One wonders why, despite all of this, Israel is still being considered the victim...and the real victims, terrorists? |
Foreign Affairs / Re: 8 - Questions About The New Israel - Hamas War by violent(m): 1:09am On Nov 20, 2012 |
dayokanu: Wars are not fought based on the same principles that existed in 1808. U.N. Security Council adopted resolution 242 of 22 November 1967 which emphasized the international law principle of "the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war" and the prohibition of the transfer of civilians of the occupying Power to the occupied territory. This sort of resolution was adopted to to prevent expansionism and the colonization of occupied territories. Both principles also complement another explicit principle of international law, namely the right of peoples to self-determination, a right that a colonial or occupying Power is obliged to respect. If all these sorts of principles are not in place, then several countries with sound military would be seen annexing other countries and exploiting their wealth under the guise of provocative wars. Peharps without this in place, some western country may have found the need to attack Nigeria and annex the entire delta region. What makes the Israeli occupation illegal is that it has existed for 35 years, during which time it transformed into a form of colonialism and suppressed and oppressed an entire people for decades, preventing them from the exercise of their right to self-determination and the establishment of their State, Palestine. Israel is only getting away with all of this because the United States says it can. And when the Palestinians put up the slightest fight to get their lands back, everyone calls them terrorists......why can't Israel be seen as the terrorist? 1 Like |
