Gbawe

For me the lesson from the Adebayo story is that the REC or INEC boss can not do it alone. When Ayoka Adebayo stood up for what was right, did anyone else stand up with her and say enough-is-enough?

If I remember it was 2 days between when that woman said her concience does not permit what was going on in Ekiti and when she was bullied out of hidding. If within those two days Nigerians filled the streets protesting and grounding the country in support of Mrs Adebayo, bullying her would not have been successful.

There are even claims that her only son was threatened or used to coerce her. So tell me are you saying the woman should not think twice when the safety of her only son was brought into the eqaution and yet Nigerians in general seemed unintrested with the happenings in Ekiti.

I personally think purnishing Ayoka Adebayo is encouraging those RECs who quietly support the Government of the day and swallow their own share of the loot in peace and carry on with life. What we should be doing is use her as a case study to understand what happened and how to stand by those INEC officials who want to stand up for what is right in the times of trouble from the Government.
good reasoning!

It shouldn't stop at the removal of Ayoka.

All electoral officers found indicted in robbing the people of Ondo state of their rights and dividends of democracy should be arrested and convicted. . .that's the only way we can make meaningful steps towards an electoral process that is fair and just

PoliticsRe: Prosecution Presents Evidence Against Okah by violent(m): 5:12pm On Oct 21, 2010
Update!

Consequently, the prosecution presented evidence against Mr Okah in court this morning. Prosecution lawyer, Shaun Abrahams, read a supplementary affidavit signed by the Police Services Officer in charge of the investigation, Noel Graeme Zeeman, which said prior to the detonation of the two vehicle-improvised explosive devices on 1 October in Abuja, two vehicles were purchased in Lagos on Mr Okah's instructions.

According to the affidavit, the explosions took place under the supervision of Chima Orlu, who is said to have acted on the instructions of Mr Okah. Mr Orlu's telephone records show that he had been in contact with Mr Okah on numerous occasions leading up to October 1. Mr Okah is said to have sent text messages to Mr Orlu on 30 September 2010 at 12h 38:11pm, and on October 1 at 6h 02:39am, 7h 40: 20am, 7h 41:22am and at 7h 41:35 am. Mr Zeeman's statement stressed that "of greater significance is that Mr Orlu sent an SMS to Mr Okah at precisely 10h 58:59 am on 1 October, 13h 13:01am and 13h 29:59pm on the same day."

Mr Zeeman's affidavit adds that Mr Orlu "made a total of 43 voice calls and sent 27 text messages to co-perpetrators and co-conspirators."

Mr Orlu was declared wanted by Nigeria's State Security Service after the bomb blast.

The affidavit also states that Ben Ebere had made voice calls and SMS to Mr Okah right up to 29 September. "There were 1126 calls from Okah to Ben Ebere, aka Ben Jesse, from 7 August to 29 September," stated Mr Zeeman. Mr Okah also sent 59 text messages to Ben Ebere from 1 July 2010 to September 2010.

It was also revealed that e-mails between Mr Okah and arrested suspects John Tarmy and First Man were being investigated. One in particular read: "Done, tell them to leave now." According to the document, this email was forwarded from First Man to John Tarmy at 11:15 am on 1 October 2010 and forwarded the same day to Mr Okah at 16h 25:40.

Okah's attorney responds

Rudi Krause, lawyer to Mr Okah, took time off to consult with his client and then filed an affidavit stating that he would not be able to refute the allegations presented by the prosecution unless he was provided with printouts of the telephone records, text messages, cell phone memory and the hard drive from Okah's computers which the State used in making up its case. He suggested that the evidence put before the court had been fabricated.

At this point, Judge Louw pointed out that the cell phone and computers were Mr Okah's, and seized from his own home, which "precludes the state from fabricating evidentiary material."

Mr Krause, in resuming his reading of his client's affidavit, said Mr Okah had no knowledge of Chima Orlu and Ben Jesse, but had received information that Ben Jesse used cell phone number 08039945640 and he (Mr Okah) therefore couldn't access his call records to cross-check this information, as his cell phone had been seized by the police.

But prosecution lawyer, Shaun Abrahams maintained that; "we can give copies of what was seized from him (Mr Okah), and not what was obtained in the course of the investigation." He also pointed out that Mr Okah "miraculously produced a telephone number for Ben Jesse, after saying he didn't know Ben Jesse during cross-examination."

Judge Louw subsequently ruled that the State would go through Mr Okah's request and adjourned the matter till tomorrow, 22 October.
I have a feeling Okah will continue to lie. . and then more evidence will be produced!

The court of law does not recognise conjectures. If there is no compelling evidence on the sort on conversation that may have tranpired between this two. Number of calls alone will not be admitted as evidence to keep Okah in Jail as it does not prove anything.

The South African Government will not luck up Okah for no reason while the Nigerian Government goes to look for evidence.
Its a bail hearing, you don't require strong evidence for that.

what you need is to be able to prove that the accused, if granted bail, could pose threat to lives of other individuals. . .or might jump bail. . .or could destroy evidence and the impede ongoing investigations.

an individual with over 43 calls and 27 text messages to a terrorist group within a short time frame can be seen as a threat!

i know what wealth creation means

what i was trying to say is this

I cannot be bought into a wealth creation slogan when all infrastructures are down. at our level, ill buy into a job creation module first to stabilise things and when we get ourselves together, then all these fantasies of wealth creation and wealth re-distribution would be easily attainable.

How do you create wealth when all the factors of production are in a state of coma cheesy grin
grin grin grin

wealth re-distribution is quite possible at this stage, why should a cleaner be earning less than 1,000 naira a month?. . .i frankly believe the the country should start moving into the the hourly pay rates and enforce reasonable minimum wage levels.
PoliticsRe: Submit Your Suggestion To The Fg Job Creation Committee by violent(m): 11:19am On Oct 19, 2010
^^^

How do you bring back alive the manufacturing sector without first addressing credit and financial laws?, . .how about banks who don't pay any attention to Small and Medium enterprises?. . .

we have microfinance banks all over Victoria Island and lekki when the appropriate place for them to be should be in the rural settings, how then do we build back the Agricultural sector?

Isn't it pathetic to think the Nigerian government still import rice?. . .and then they talk about creating 1 million jobs?. . .funny right?

^^ what is wealth creation?

If anybody tells me hes on a wealth creation campaign, ill tell him he hasnt said anythn

i can flow with job creation, at least it explains itself
wealth creation is the combination of materials, labour, land, and technology in such a way as to capture a profit, this is quite possible provided appropriate infrastructure is in place, most importantly energy source!

job creation doesn't necessarily explain itself, a job can be voluntary, not for profit, etc etc. .i doubt many Nigerians are looking for voluntary jobs at the moment
PoliticsRe: Submit Your Suggestion To The Fg Job Creation Committee by violent(m): 11:05am On Oct 19, 2010
Another important issue that ought to be addressed is the shortage of talents in the country.  Its pathetic to think more than 70 percent of Nigerian graduates are just un-employable!

How can i as an employer recruit an individual who would necessarily increase the fixed cost component of my balance sheet without contributing anything to my businesshuh
PoliticsRe: Submit Your Suggestion To The Fg Job Creation Committee by violent(m): 10:56am On Oct 19, 2010
Dangote by himself, even though a very successful businessman would not be creating 1 million jobs.  and even if he intends to, where does the financing come from?. . the government?. . how about running costs of such business?

i also think it is futile to attempt to convince local importers to move into manufacturing as long as importing provides better earning prospects than manufacturing, and as long as these prospects are available, how do you convince a sane minded individual to leave his importing business for manufacturing?. . .i'd tell you how, you force him to, yes, you take away the prospects!

I believe the government should also focus on wealth distribution to bridge the middle class gap in the country, this can be done by enforcing minimum wage levels across both private and public sectors and increasing tax levies of the higher earning class.
By enforcing minimum wage laws, folks would be encouraged to take up meager jobs and still live a good life,  . .

lets assume for example, an average cleaner takes home a net pay of 50,000 naira a month., a carpenter takes home 60,000, and a bank manger 120,000,  . then you'd find lower skilled individuals taking up such jobs and still escape the poverty threshold

tkb417:
my thoughts too

We shd be able to substitute our imports for locally made goods. If we can achieve this even up to 70% level, we'll be fine
Did you say fine?. . .we will be fúcking great!. . .with the Naira currently at 1 naira to 149 dollars, the Nigerian economy will experience a massive boom with the awakening of the manufacturing sector.

Question is how do bring the sector back to life?
PoliticsRe: Submit Your Suggestion To The Fg Job Creation Committee by violent(m): 10:21am On Oct 19, 2010
aren't we still going about in circles?

you can't create a million jobs when the manufacturing sector is dead!. . .the service industry is already overworked!

and to fix the manufacturing sector, you need to address the issues of power and safety concerns, also, heavy duties should be placed on imported goods that are readily available locally
AutosRe: How To Remain Safe In Your Car! by violent(op): 9:43am On Oct 19, 2010
Antilock braking systems (ABS)

ABS reduces the risk of tyres skidding under heavy braking and allows the driver to maintain steering control of the car. ABS only operates under heavy braking or on slippery surfaces.

Traction control

Traction Control systems optimise grip and stability of the car on the road during acceleration by measuring wheel rotation. It stops wheel spin by reducing engine power or temporarily applying the brakes to that wheel, allowing the car to accelerate smoothly, even on slippery surfaces. Limited slip differentials also help provide a more even distribution of traction forces when the car is on a slippery surface.

Handling and stability

A car with good handling and stability gives you more control by 'holding' the road better and being more responsive. Good handling depends on the design and integration of the car's steering, suspension, braking, acceleration, body and weight distribution. Test driving different cars will give you a better idea of on-road driving characteristics.

Aggressive driving styles reduce the benefits gained from good handling or ABS. Travelling just a few km/h over the speed limit can completely eliminate any advantage from good handling and ABS.
