IslamRe: Pig Fat In Shoprite Bread? by waleadex(m): 6:14pm On Nov 03, 2013
This topic is a reminder of my curious days of wanting to know why swine is forbidden in Islam. I asked questions, made researches and I have got something to share here.

Religious restrictions on the consumption of pork are not in Islam alone but Jewish dietary laws (Kashrut). Such restrictions originate from the laws of the Hebrew Bible, and from the laws of the Muslim Quran, respectively. Among Christians, Seventh-day Adventists consider pork taboo, along with other foods forbidden by Jewish law. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church and Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria discourage pork consumption.

For the major purpose of this topic,to be a Muslim means that one sublimates one's desires, wants, and preferences so that they are in accord with the Sacred Law of Islam. Our Sacred Law is derived from several primary sources, the first, and foremost, of which is the Qur'an. The next source of guidance is the Sunna, or living tradition of Prophet Muhammad, the Beautiful Exemplar, Allah bless him and give him peace. After that, an important source of Sacred Law is the consensus of the Muslim scholars, who have devoted their lives to the study and interprete the Qur'an and Sunna.

The following points explain various aspects of this prohibition:

1. Pork prohibited in Qur'an
The Qur'an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.
"Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur'an 5:3]
The above verses of the Holy Qur'an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.

2. Pork prohibited in the Bible
The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".
"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you." [Leviticus 11:7-8]
Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy
"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass." [Deuteronomy 14:8]
A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.

3. Pig cannot be slaughtered at the neck due to its anatomy. To slaughter any animal, Muslims make an incision through the jugular veins, leaving all other veins and organs intact; thus causing the death of the animal by a total loss of blood from the body. This is similar to the Kosher laws of Judaism. Chemical analysis of this blood shows that it contains an abundance of uric acid, a chemical substance which can be injurious to human health.
There is evidence that eating pork has negative impact on health.

However, both Judaism and Islam forbid eating pork, as in the climate in that regions meat goes off easily. Since pork meat doesn't smell when it goes off one may not be able to tell, and get food poisoning.

Interestingly enough, chemical analysis of this blood shows that it contains an abundance of uric acid, a chemical substance which can be injurious to human health. Also, there are many harmful effects of the consumption of pork, in any form, be it pork chops, ham, bacon. Medical science finds that there is a risk for various diseases as the pig is found to be a host for many parasites and potential diseases as the pig's biochemistry excretes only 2% of its total uric acid content, the remaining 98% remains as an integral part of the body. I imagine that in antiquity it would have been noticed that those who frequently ate this meat were subject to various diseases and maladies.

PoliticsRe: Is The FG Ultimately To Blame For Our Aviation Mishaps? by waleadex(m): 10:05am On Oct 29, 2013
Of course yes,FG is to blame. An experience person is expected to be in charge of the ministry, then other things follow. The minister is expected to oversee the works of all agencies attached to the ministry. Having said that, any of its affiliated agencies are expected to scrutinize the employment of the pilots, the crew etc in other to ensure that perfect hands are at work. Yes,plane mishaps happen everywhere in the world but it is becoming to often in Nigeria.

Romance5 Unconsidered Facts Why Long Distance Relationships Usually Do Not Work. by waleadex(op): 8:58pm On Oct 27, 2013
As we all know, long distance relationships are getting more common around the world. One of the reasons for this is because there are numerous ways for people to communicate with each other through social networking online. Two of my favorites are Twitter, and Facebook. Twitter and Facebook both allow messaging and private messaging to any one of their friends easily and quickly. Also, there are other more obvious ways that people communicate like cell phones, and e-mailing. Couples are away from each other for weeks, and months at a time yet they are still able to keep up on everything that is going on in the other persons life. Long distance relationships are basically dependent on these communication devices.

Although a couple is separated on the globe, the fact that they love each other, and they have a will to do anything for each other is enough reason to stay in the relationship. When the love is strong there is no end to what any one partner would do for the other. Although these relationships seem perfect and wonderful because of the love, physically staying away from your partner will take the passion away from the love in most cases.

Here are some reasons why long distance relationships usually do not work:

1. No kissing, no cuddling, no holding hands, and of course no sex.

Sure there are other reasons behind being in a relationship other than intimate ones but if someone is away from their partner for months at a time it is human nature to be looking at other people. But,few exceptions are the very religious lovers/couples.

2. One of you will meet someone else.

I know that you are thinking that would never happen to you and your girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, or wife but it is only natural for people to try to fill their needs.

3. No true trust.

Yeah, there may be trust but is it true trust?Even if both try so much to keep the trust, societal influence such as friends and families may play fast one on either of them as to affect the trust they share.Sure you know what I mean.

4. It is expensive to keep flying or driving to see someone in a long distance relationship.

Even though it is called a long distance relationship people in them still see each other. Just no where near as frequent as a couple who lives within a short driving distance because the price of gas to drive is a lot, and the cost of airplane tickets is usually even more.

5. Soon there is nothing more to talk about anymore in phone conversations other than saying I miss you to each other.

Sad but true. After a few months of being away from your partner in a long distance relationship there stops being new and exciting things to talk about. The things you used to talk about were previous experiences and feelings that you had for one another back months ago. Not seeing someone consistently in a relationship is going to put a damper on new memories to share.

Well, those reasons mentioned are based on what I see, hear and witness regularly. Is your love strong enough to be away from your lover for months or years without seeing each other? Hopefully you will never need to find out because if you are like me, when you say "I love you" to someone that means "I'll do anything for you and I'll do whatever it takes..."
