Personally,as regards this subject,it's neither going to be a plus nor a minus on Fashola's focus. This is much needed to let happen because we all,I am sure, can no longer support gross imposition of any kind. What worries me so much is the abundant partisanism exercised by all Nigerian polical leaders especially during governance. At a time when Nigeria is tipped to progress there's always a distraction such as this NGF thing. May God help us! |
Sharp practices in the downstream sector of the Nigerian petroleum industry have continued to have a heavy toll on end users as many fillings stations selling Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol in the country have resorted to under-dispensing of the product. The nefarious activity perpetrated by petroleum marketers has gone unnoticed by many motorists as they drive into the filling stations to fill their tanks. For every ten liters sold to a motorist,it is not unlikely that he drives away with less than seven litres due to the adjusted meters by the filling stations. The implication is that the petroleum marketer gains additional three liters. According to findings, petroleum marketers make about N4 per litre on a truck load of 33,000 liters as they buy around N93 per liter (depot price plus transportation cost) to bring the cost of purchase to N3.069.000. When sold at the regulated price of N97 per liter, actual profit will amount to N132, 000. But to hike their profit margin, investigations revealed that the marketers adjust their fuel pump meters. For instance, ten liters of fuel will cost N970 at the rate of N97 per liter. But with the adjusted meter, motorists pay the actual price (N970) but drives away with about six liters which amounts to N582. So there is a difference of N388 which has fraudulently gone to the purse of oil marketers. To magnify the marketers smooth operation, multiply N388 by the average of 10 million under-dispensed litres out of the 30 million litres of petrol consumed daily in the country and what you get is N3.8 billion loss to motorists. Nigeria’s petroleum regulator, Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR,saddled with the responsibility of regulating, monitoring and enforcing the laws in the sector, used the Seraphin Can to expose filling stations involved in the nefarious act in Lagos recently. The ten-liter Seraphin Can is used by the DPR to ascertain the exact dispensing meter measurement of filling stations. When filled to the level of ten liters, dispensing meters that have been adjusted will show above ten liters on the display board. When this occurs, the filling station is shut by DPR officials. DPR said over 500 filling stations had been shut for under-dispensing and other related offences. According to the regulatory body, other offences committed by filling stations include compromise of safety standards and lack of proper storage facilities. The DPR Manager, Downstream, Lagos Zone, Mr. Kunle Soyebo, said the purpose of the recent monitoring which yielded the filling stations under-dispensing was to ensure strict adherence to rules and regulations in the downstream sector. “The exercise, which you have just witnessed, is carried out by our men twice every week. Any filling station operator that fails to comply with rules and regulation will have his licence revoked,” Soyebo said. “For the affected stations, we have issued them letters to report to our office and, if they fail to show up, their licences will be revoked. So far, we have been able to shut over 500 filling stations across the country. These stations will remain shut until they comply with our rules and regulations.” During the exercise, it was, however, discovered that there are some good guys in the business who adhere to the rules on the dispensing of petroleum products. Major oil marketers were not found wanting as they maintained a clean sheet in their operations while their names were engraved in the good books of the DPR. |
Estrange captain of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo has disclosed that he has moved on from the disappointment of being dropped from the list of players to the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and the FIFA Confederations Cup. Yobo sparked a furore when he asked the Stephen Keshi and his assistants of disrespect by leaving him out of the squad without a word of explanation despite being in form and leading the team to the last Nations Cup in South Africa. “Whatever happened has happened and that’s behind me now. When I look at the whole season, I’m very grateful to God. Because this could have been my worst season,” Yobo who won the Turkish Cup last weekend with Fenerbahce. “I’m not disappointed about being left out. I’m very happy and supportive for those who have been called in to the team. “It’s their time. They should take, it they should enjoy it. I’ll definitely be watching and I’ll give them my support. I’ll speak to some of the players and encourage them. “I was a Super Eagles fan before I became a Super Eagles player and I will remain a fan after I stop playing, so I will always support the team whether I am there or not. “I sustained a very nasty injury and wasn’t even sure I would make it to the Nations Cup. I had already ruled myself out of the tournament, but God saw me through and I came back early and made it. “Then I won the Nations Cup and now won the Turkish Cup, then got to the semi-final of the Europa League, something that was a bit of history because it was the first time for the club to get to that level.” |

As a man please allow me to contribute something . After our first daughter wifey was having injection(I don forget the name) but it failed us after 3yrs. We had our twin girls 3yrs after their sister and this we didn't plan for. So we opted oral pill (combination 3) and guess what? This pill never failed us until after 10yrs when we decided to have a boy in the family. In other words, the twin girls are 10yrs older than the only boy. All thanks to God for "combination3" tablet. Try it! |

No.6 - Avoid frequent "FACEBOOking" and do more of "NAIRALANDing" ![]() |
It's not good if you confront him because your hubby already told you not to and the man didn't borrow from you but from hubby. What I expect you to do is to talk to your hubby to call him personally man-to-man and not his wife. He should let him know how he feels about his attitude. By then,I am sure, even if he still does nt have the money,he will apologise and that will avoid malice between both families. Same thing happened to me when a man from the neighbourhood came borrowing money to settle his ward's school fee, payable in 3days. He didn't say anything for about 4weeks and I was always feeling a bad hit in my heart each time I saw him. So I called him after 5weeks and told him my mind and I became happy each time I was seeing him thereafter. So,my sister, malice is bad for our health because I am sure as a woman you are going to find it hard to greet or converse with him base on what's on ground. By all means, avoid malice and hatred. These two don't do our hearts any good. |

Well, like someone did say,the funds embezzled and being embezzled by politicians are by far more than what FG will spend on this course. So Sanusi shouldn't discourage FG by his words. But wait o,shey na money kill Sanusi for the first time wey he come this world? ![]() |
One thing I've so far noticed about this man is that he wants to be more popular. Like someone said earlier,he's becoming funnier than Basket Mouth. I am not a party person but all I can say is PDP perfomances are nt above average. PDP governors are just the best 'fund suckers' since 1999. The records are there to revisit. |
@ OP,you look ok and I believe as you grow older you become finer. |
Nigerian academic Dr Sule Emmanuel Egya, who writes poetry and fiction under the pen name E.E Sule, has won this year’s Commonwealth Book Prize for Africa. His first novel, Sterile Sky, published by Pearson Education in the African Writers Series in 2012, was adjudged best by the Commonwealth Prize panel. Dr Egya has taught at Nasarawa State University and the University of Abuja and is currently an associate professor of English at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai. Besides poems and short stories published in numerous anthologies, literary magazines and journals, he has published three poetry volumes namely What the Sea Told Me (winner of the 2009 ANA Gabriel Okara Prize), Naked Sun, and Knifing Tongues. Sterile Sky is a story of a gifted young Murtala who grew in Kano where violent riots exacerbated by his family’s own woes threaten to erase all he holds dear. Stalked by monsters, real and imagined, desperate to preserve a sense of self and the future, Murtala hunts for answers in the wreckage of the city and the book gives us a unique insight into modern life in northern Nigeria.

Residents of Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos State are still talking about 18-year-old Olanrewaju Kayode-Aremu, who stabbed his father, Victor Kayode-Aremu, to death. Police authorities said the suspect stabbed his 46-year-old father to death while the man was attempting to enter his room. PUNCH Metro learnt that Olanrewaju was a student of University of Ilorin, Kwara State, but was expelled because he had poor grades. A police source at Langbasa Divison, where the suspect was detained, told our correspondent that the incident occurred on May 1, 2013. He said, "Olanrewaju is the first of five children. He lived with his parents and siblings in a duplex in Langbasa. He was enrolled in University of Ilorin to study Geology in 2011 but was later asked to withdraw because he had very poor grades. "Since he was not attending any school, he started working with his father who was a civil engineer. The arrangement his father made with him was that he would be working with him until he could get admission to another school." The senior officer told our correspondent that the suspect was not happy about the arrangement. He said the frustration later led him to laying an ambush for his father while he was trying to enter his room. He said the suspect stabbed his father in 10 different places, causing him to bleed to death. He said, "Around 10pm on that day, the whole family had just had dinner and they were watching television when their father received a telephone call. He went upstairs and when he got to the entrance of the room, Olanrewaju appeared from nowhere with a kitchen knife. "He stabbed his father in the back, sides, hands, legs over 10 times. The man, who was screaming in pains, attracted the attention of other members of the family who were downstairs. When the mother came upstairs, she found her son still stabbing her husband. The presence of other children did not also stop Olanrewaju. "When she tried to save her husband, Olanrewaju threatened to stab her if she came close. The woman then went outside and called on neighbours for help." PUNCH Metro learnt that it took the intervention of neighbours to overpower the 18-year-old and wrest the knife from him. It was learnt that the victim was rushed to J-Rapha Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. A resident, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the family had been in shock and had not been staying home since the incident occurred. He said, "The family is a young one. Olanrewaju is the first born and he had four younger siblings." The suspect, who was not remorseful, said he killed his father because he was convinced that his father did not love him. He said he was not worried about his predicament since he was too young to be prosecuted. "The case is a very long story. The truth is that my father never loved me and the only form of care he showed me was paying my school fees. I am just 18-years-old so I know I cannot be prosecuted. I have no regrets for my action," he said. When contacted on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said she had yet to be fully briefed on the incident. |

Seun: I don't know whether I'm a legend, but I've certainly broken records through my role as the founder and manager of Nairaland. Nairaland is the most frequently visited African website in the world, according to Alexa. That's something!...enough to indeed make you a legend. |
dopeJemi: what history does he have, what record has he broken, is he very welL known by alL.. Check d dictionary 4 who a Legend isI am sure you know there's no just one meaning for it. My longman dictionary defines a Legend as someone who is famous and admired for being extremely good at doing something. So,how about that? |
I am opportuned to be a member of one organisation called "Patriots Of Purpose" and almost all the members in the organisation are Nairalanders. We are planning our award night programme sometime in July and I personally recommended Seun Osewa to be awarded as a "Youthful Living Legend" but I got opposed by 1/3 of the population at the last meeting. Meanwhile, I am expected at the next meeting to butress my point on his recommendation. I quite agree Seun Osewa, owner of Nairaland is a celebrity but do you see him as a legend yet? What's legendary about him? What's legendary about his work "Nairaland"? Please share your thoughts! |
Appliedmaths.:This your username reminds me of my days as engineering student. Applied maths no dey make man laugh o... Besides, you have a good comment! |
This thread is really making my morning. All the comments are very relative and it's stylishly turning into a debate. Development is a complex issue, with many different and sometimes contentious definitions based on mentality, reasoning, terrain and so on. Development can be defined as : - A specified state of growth or advancement. - The systematic use of scientific and technical knowledge to meet specific objectives or requirements. - An extension of the theoretical or practical aspects of a concept, design, discovery, or invention. - The process of economic and social transformation that is based on complex cultural and environmental factors and their interactions. - The process of adding improvements to a parcel of land, such as grading, subdivisions, drainage, access, roads, utilities. So,I agree with you all on what you presented so far. It feels good to know that all Nairalanders are nt home-based,by that,Foreign-based Nairalanders get to tell us practically what development is seen to be where they are. |
