Why? Because consent wasn’t a concept back then and men had been raping women as war booty after battles since the beginning of war itself. But Muslims believe that their prophet and his community were the first ones to confirm consent before doing so.
Other less informed Muslims will say that this only gave allowance to marry a slave woman but actual scholars of the Quran will admit that there’s absolutely no requirement for marriage, just a suggestion that it’s allowed if one is unable to marry a free woman.
Ask any Muslim how a slave or prisoner could ever want to willingly have sex with a man who’s captured her and killed her family and they’ll simply deflect by saying, “but Islam gave women soooo many rights and Muhammad’s first wife was a strong business woman.”
