If bad loans are what plunged skye bank and Diamond banks into failures.....Why is the CBN now forcing banks to lend 60% of their deposit out.....CBNs rhetoric is that it is for sme bla bla bla......But I Know there is someone(firm) out there who have engineered this policy to favor them.....who could this guys be as the cost of borrowing has now reduced.......
SME loan cannot go bad smiley Only loans obtained by big wigs and politically connected people are allowed to go BAD.

But at 200, what is the point. They pay 80% of eps as dividend, good. But how much does that translate to - less than 10naira. Zenith will give a higher dividend return than that.

MTN, if una no he sell to me at 80naira, make una carry go.
Time to BUY the hype. Most people will ask questions later

Welcome back Sir! Good to see your post here once more.

In my view, they want to use this listing by introduction to drive up the price before the IPO and them dump at a high price on unsuspecting investors during the IPO.
You must have gone to an International School because your NSE tuition fee must be very expensive smiley

NSE and SEC should have compelled MTN South Africa to divest part of their holdings as offer for sale to Nigerians. Between 1b to 2b
Why should they be compelled to sell their holdinghuh? MTN RSA will not be selling at N90! tongue

Are you sure about this?
I am talking about net profit and not gross profit.
If PAT is 453b then eps will be 453/20 which gives us 85.6.

If that is true, mtn will be selling at a ridiculous low price at N90 as p.e will be close to 1 . impossible huh cool huh
This your Mathematics get as e be ooo

Based on Q1 result, PAT 2019 will be like N200bn, EPS will be like N10 and PE at listing price of N90 will be like 9.

20billion share will not be available? I hear u. the can only hoard it for a few days
It depends on the type of ownership.

MTN will not be selling. The major investors are not likely going to be selling. Most of those who will be selling are those that urgently need the money.

That said, MTN will do an IPO later.

No share listed on NSE can have a nominal value greater or less than 50k simply because it is the law.

In the days of private placements i.e. pre 2008, all of those companies had nominal values of N1 per share but post PP when they had to list, he split each share into 2 of 50k nominal value to comply with listing requirements.

That MTN release is a bit confusing to me but if the nominal value of each share is 2k, what this implies is that they have to consolidate 25 shares to create one share of 50k nominal value to enable them list on NSE. Ot implies that about 816 million ordinary shares of MTN of 50k nominal value each will be listed. It can't be any other way. Only shares of 50k nominal value can be listed on NSE as of today.
They will likely issue shares to existing shareholders. MTN South Africa may also be selling some of its shares in MTN Nigeria to retail investors

My brother my first caution sign in this MTN notice was when I saw 2kobo abi na 20kobo norminal value. angry

A 50kobo norminal value would at least have been more like it.
Notore pricing comes to mind.
As much as we are eager to make a kill in these firms, let's accomodate opinions that will help retail investors unmask details these Sharks may be trying to keep away from the unsuspecting public.
No one knows it all.
But what do I know sef?
Nominal value means 'nothing' in reality smiley

Listing price is what you should be worried about. The listing price, the profit and earnings growth THEN the debt and cashflow should help you make a decision. The low Nominal value maybe to avoid huge listing fees

Sir, do u know the major reason why he stopped posting here tho he still check into Nairaland atimes?
I think you shouldn't group all builders in the respect of architects, engrs alongside with consultants and contractors here.
Skimanski is fine doing good, spoke of recent on WhatsApp messages, so pls confirm first before categorising all others as one here.
A project been stopped isn't anyone's fault, the client might have a change of mind or drained of fund.
Thank you.
I can confirm that he did not finish the work. Will not say more than that for now.

Would just asked people to be careful and tread carefully.

Noteby... It was the SA investor(Tiger Brand) that lost terribly in the Dangote Flour affairs. It still reflects in the annual report of Tiger brand till date. Alhaji played them well.TB could not compete in unfamiliar territory.
In the breweries subsector, it's a different game.
A. Rooijen was once the MD of champion breweries and he still represents the interest of the SA investors till date.
For Heineken, the majority shareholders to hold on to about 4.7bil shares in dz Company despite facing financial challenges in Europe means there is an intrinsic value in dz company that is not yet known to common shareholders
Watch out.......
Seems I am very slow today. Is SA Investors another name for Heineken a 'Dutch' brewing company?

Godlylifeoneart:
Investors should watch out for champion breweries.
This company has one of the best asset to liability ratio in the whole of NSE
The South African investors are busy strategising and repositioning this company.
The company is looking for market shares dominated by NB, IB, Guinness. With 5 to 7.5% market penetration, this company will witness a turn around.
I forsee a long term capital and shares appreciation for this company.
Most companies the SA investors show interest, will likely experience turn around in production and marketing.
It might take time... I can see this modern brewery doing what CCNN is doing in the cement industries in the brewery industries.
Surfice to say when the available becomes expensive, the affordable becomes available.
Watch out....
Disclosure... I hold 100,000 units in this company.
Not an advise to buy
Just my candid opinion
I love what the SA investors did with Dangote Flour smiley

Not sure of the SA investors in Champion Breweries. I thought Heineken (majority owners of NBL) are the majority shareholder in Champion Breweries.

Like I said before, the criterion for choosing WEMA was based on the coys INHERENT GROWTH. ...That bank is a GREAT growth coy.
Let me point out this very important factor;
With finding GREAT BARGAINS in the stock market, there are 2 core areas to focus on;
1) Look out for the GROWTH BEHIND THE VALUE !!
This is where coys like WEMA, MAY&BAKER and INTERNATIONAL BREWERIES currently fall in.
...and where companies like BETA GLASS, CUSTODIAN, UNILEVER and a few others had it roots. I recall that this was how I spotted the growth potential of BETA GLASS when it was still selling for FAR LOWER than its current market price.
That's GROWTH investing approach.

2) Look out for the VALUE BEHIND THE PRICE !!
This is where coys like CAVERTON, UPL, UNIONDAC, AIICO, NEWREST ASL, UBA, ZENITH, and JB currently fall in.
...and where a company like FIDSON HEALTHCARE and C&I LEASING had its roots. Folks can remember how FIDSON rose from just above N1 to more than N6, returning over an incredible 500% gain !!
This is VALUE investing approach.

Both APPROACH can make one some very good ROI.
When u can spot a 'gap' wide enough to make for a great margin for either the GROWTH or VALUE potential in a coy, RUN IN and ask questions later !!
...this is KEY, and an almost certain root to EXCEL in the market !!

Regards.
Again when you say GROWTH what is the driver for the GROWTH? Is there any discernible strategy? Do you have confidence that the management/board can actually do better than the competitor? What is the advantage that they have over the competition? How able are they to retain their 'good staff'?

GROWTH does not occur in a vacuum.

Subject those companies to Porter's 5 Forces analysis and see what you will find!

Again, I have my own CRITERIA for selecting stocks. It is NOT just about making money.

I don't own any Union Diagnostics.

I own NEM. It is currently the largest contributor to my portfolio and I am selling down. Those that know me from my SMN days can still remember why I bought NEM.

You are free to buy any stock that you like based on your SPECIFIC SITUATION.

A question please, what does it mean when we say:

PROFIT FOR THE PERIOD is 11,843 and TOTAL COMPREHENSIVE INCOME FOR THE PERIOD, NET OF TAX is 8,514 when tax has been deducted previously.

Secondly, wouldn't it be right to factor in the reclassified losses when calculating the true EPS?

Is there a separate account where these reclassified losses are channeled to (eg the retained earnings)?

#refer to Fidelity H1 result.
They relate to income that are not subjected to tax in the current year. Most times they relate to reclassifications

But many companies do use the share premium to adjust against the negative retained earnings to allow them to pay dividend in the future. That is one of the uses of share premium account. I do not think it is any abracadabra. But there are too many good stocks way above Wema. It is the choice of any investor to buy any stock that he/she sees an opportunity to make it in the market. It is good that the alarm bells are ringing sha.
Firstly ONLY FEW companies have NEGATIVE retained earnings.

If the company is generating enough profit , the profit can be used to change the retained earnings from negative to positive

The Abracadabra is that the route taken by Wema (Wema is not the only one) will 'hide' things from the unsuspecting investor. It becomes the more you look the less you see.
